Sade has said it is so painful to relive the emotions of all of these songs, which is why she doesn't tour very often. This song closes every show, and it is the bands masterpiece. This particular version is the best! She tore the roof off the place!

@@paulap8170 Amen, I first saw her in the 80s at the Fox Theater. Amazing concert, one of the best I've ever seen. Smaller venue so she and the band were very close to the audience. I'll never forget it.

This is what music sounds like when the singer and band have become seasoned and more in sync and behaving as one unit. Timing and rythem on point.
Passion and heat in the air and sound. Sade is still beautiful like a fine wine aged to perfection.
What I appreciate, and it paid off for the singer here, is that when she first signed she wouldn't do it without the band.
Considering the musicians' input, I don't think the singer would have been as much of a satisfying success without them.
Note: I am deliberately referring to the members generically.

Actually, seasoned has a little to do with it if you go back and listen to her 1985 rendition at live aid, it is absolute perfection with both the the band and her vocals.. her body language was a little more robotic, but the overall sound was as good if not cleaner.

I love her she is humble, beautiful she keeps her private life private and she’s famous but she doesn’t yearn for attention. She even said in one of her interviews, that she learned early on that money is not the most important thing because a person can have all the riches in the world and still be empty on the inside.

I'm surprised no one is talking about how Sade used power with her voice at the end. Sade never sings like that with her voice. She is very practical, but here she used her voice like I never heard her before. People said Sade can't sing like that but I knew she could, she sings in a simple and economical way but its extremely effective for her classy style. Here at the end she proved that she can be a power singer if she wanted too.
She is pure authenticity. I appreciate her today even more than 20 years ago.
I saw some videos of this song in youtube. It's incredible see the evolution of the structure and arrangements. The voice... there's only evolution! This version is the finest version that I saw.

Hey Terry J. I was in Mainz Germany in 1985 when I was graced with my first memory of Sade.
By for my favorite Sade cut. Singing like alone in a bathroom and no one can feel how deep. And that’s my point, she expresses emotion and tamper it off with a passion from the soul and yet combines the entire group delivering an electrifying experience only YOU can feel. I totally dig the individual solos, very professional and very serious group yet obvious having a blast doing it all.

This performance is even better than the originals from 1985, sometimes you see performances get stale because the artist gets tired of the source material, but she brought more life into it over the years! Maybe more of an emotional connection due to loss, and connects more with the lyrics as a result. That aside, the decreased tempo allows for more articulation of her voice.
