In 2016, indigenous water protectors and their allies gathered at Standing Rock to oppose the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline under Lake Oahe and the Missouri River. Chase Iron Eyes, a member of the Great Sioux Nation and Lead Counsel for the Lakota People's Law Project, was one of those water protectors. Through his personal testimony and supporting protest footage, Chase recounts his experience at Standing Rock and its lasting legacy.

"Status Coup" founder Jordan covered this live for 1 month where other journalists were absent. Maybe Vox isn't the adversarial journalism that covers these issues in order to educate us on how we can defeat these evil systems of capitalism. Covering it 4 years later without any links to activist orgs or strategies to dismantle this pipeline is malpractice and promoting desensitization.
I believe Jordan was working under "TYT Investigates" youtube channel where the DAPL videos continue to be hosted.

I was there at standing rock, still haunts me in memories. Fresh off from firefighting(as if it was actual combat on in a middle of a warzone) in Colorado in the rocky mountains, only to be in a war zone again. And being a tribal wildland firefighter, I feel hurt in my heart and I feel so much pain. I put my life on the line fighting wildfires saving this country engulfed in flames only to be betrayed and backstabbed. I'll never forget standing Rock. I'll never forget these events and I'll never come over my ptsd.

Whats unfair? That the people claiming to be “water protecters” were the biggest threat to the water source leaving 7 tons of trash behind after this circus?
What protest? They torched, robbed, and assaulted numerous times during this event including locals with no connection to the oil company. You can look up the Bismarck Tribune archives and see all the crime they brought with them.

    • @schouvler25
      @schouvler25 2 года назад +1

@Sagittarius Rising Its takes such intelligence to insult strangers online, right?
What natives are you talking about? They arrested dozens of tribe members during this circus. To pretend they weren’t willing participants in the violence is false. The Bismarck Tribune posted the arrests daily and keep the archives.
Read what? You didn’t actually cite anything as Whyte has written many articles on NoDAPL.
I live here. My profile photo is the ND seal, rather weird you don’t recognize that. You’re trying to lecture me how life is in my backyard and talk about getting educated. If your ideas werent so weak you wouldn’t need to rely on childish attempts at smearing others over a rational thought. Its that simple. If you want to pretend the tribe wasn’t the problem why did standing rock refuse to clean up the mess? Morton county cleared 7 tons of trash left behind from the “water protecters” when the tribe did nothing.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

you’re right! The American people need to wake up.
Article 6, clause 2 of the United States Constitution says, “all Treaties are the Supreme Law of the Land and judges in every state shall be bound thereby.” That means that every single one of the 500 treaties that the American people signed are as valid today as the constitution. Violating any one of the 500treaties today is violating article 6, clause 2 of the constitution today. And since there’s no consequences for violating article 6, clause 2 of the US constitution, We can 100% identify that constitutional noncompliance is a systemic problem. And the systemic problem is still having genocidal consequences for the entire race of indigenous peoples. That is systemic racism, and it is right in front of the American people’s face and yet most Americans still can’t see it.

Hi Cami, greet at xmas22 from Jen in Winnipeg. Your replier brock alleges multiple rape reports that I’m not sure if he means from the standing rock scene or an event where you live.
If he means standing rock I’m guessing he means to suggest that the protesters were to blame. I wasn’t there and I don’t know much about it, but rape is often considered by criminology types to be an act of violence, not an act of sex, per se, meaning that the motivation is not to attain sexual satisfaction but to act agrressively towards a vulnerable target.
So who was in the vicinity with a mandate and under contract to suppress a pretty conscientiously peaceful protest with force and violence? Who chooses to make a career working in combat fatigues carrying a rifle and wearing body armour? Somebody who has probably been raised to accept that might is right and that violence and aggression are satisfying experiences to be a part of. And they were mostly probably from out of town and pretty unlikely to be easily identified, assuming anybody complained and assuming anybody investigated when they did complain.
I’m not assuming you two will not have the capacity to figure this out, but maybe somebody else will trip over this conversation (as I have) and it will plant a seed of doubt about the character of the protesters as a group that maybe shouldn’t be allowed to evolve.

@Flavius Belisarius You seem to be forgetting that the US government then repeatedly broke those treaties and stole more land. See Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 and 1868. The reason? There was gold in them thar hills, the Black Hills that is. So in 1875 George Armstrong Custer lead an expedition into the area (native land by above treaties) and failed to prevent white settlers (miners and trappers) from moving onto tribal lands (the Black Hills). As for the 1st nations peoples fighting each other, of course they did because they had been forced onto smaller and smaller areas forcing them to compete with each other for resources like FOOD.

As an FYI to some of the comments, Colorado has what is called "the split estate". Business men, politicians, and judges got it pushed through years ago for their profit. What it means is that when you purchase a property, the land is split up into surface rights, mineral rights, and water rights. Not sure who they think owns the air, probably the FAA. Anyway, you might only be purchasing surface rights, and you can put a house and/or a barn on the surface. But if someone else owns the mineral rights, say the railroad company, then they can frack under your land without your permission and likely harm your water. If your house has a well, you can use the water, but you don't own the water, unless you bought the water rights or you go and do what is called adjudicating the water through the water courts. The oil and gas companies will offer areas of home owners leases to drill under their properties and use their land surface if the home owners own the mineral rights. It gets a lot more complicated, and an entire branch of law practice is dedicated to water law, another to oil and gas, etc. Colorado is really messed up. And then they allow developers to form their own little governments that have the power of eminent domain. If they want your land, they'll take your land for pennies on the dollar. And they are going to keep raping and raping and raping. The entire Colorado Front Range is being destroyed, right now, with seas of composite shingle roofs being packed together in developments. And then there's all the strip malls. We're a repugnant race.

Hi Tina thank you for sharing this information about Colorado s land status- I like your joke about the FAA too! How long until this becomes the new normal?? I think maybe similar distinctions are drawn in other states also but maybe not do extensively? I live in Canada and I think we have some issues along these lines but maybe it’s not as impactful as where you live. Mineral rights mainly and fracking in Canada is mostly done in the province of Alberta. But yeah, if there’s anything of value under your house your barn or your rangelands you can bet yer last dollar they’ll have a way of grabbing it off you, won’t they.
