It is not the only European tarantula. Ischnocolus valentinus could be regarded as "even more European" as it inhabits continental Spain.
Absolutely stunning spider Tom just a beautiful color!! I’ve heard of these but have not seen one yet at the invert shows. I am definitely going to do my best to obtain one! Great video Tom as usual thanks for sharing!!🕷
Thank you so much for pointing that out!
Yeah, plus I live in Germany and I have like 60! They would all consider themselves “European Tarantulas” albeit transplants🤣
Cyprus also has another tiny endemic one in the north. Chaetopelma karlemanni.
Art The Clown cameo for the win! I've been to Cyprus as a kid but never actually realised they had a tarantula species otherwise my parents would have never seen me.
I was so psyched to get this shirt. haha I love those movies; reminds me of renting all the super gory low budget ones in the 80s. haha Hahahaha "We used to have a child named Adam, but he wandered off in Cyprus..." Hope all is well, bud!
I have a chateopelma olivaceum, and I really like it. I don't see it much unless I venture into my spider room at night. when I rehoused it last, it popped out at the slightest disturbance and ran laps, and it used to run laps and threat pose as a tiny sling when I fist got it. I wish I got footage of this. It's a great addition to my collection.
That would have been great footage to have! I'm lucky in that mine have been rather calm overall.
@TomsBigSpiders I don't mind the excitement, we'll see how it's demeanor is as it gets a big larger. Ill be sure to role for some footage
TERRIFIER! ❤❤❤❤❤
LOVE those movies! haha
The Legendary Tom Moran with the Legendary perfect rehouses, love it.
Hahaha Thanks, Billyjack!
Awesome Terrifier shirt Tom!!
Thanks so much, Travis!
Always gotta binge watch the channel when a expo is coming up.
Hahaha That's awesome.
I was wondering when we'd see this one again. It has been a while. It really goes give off a blue-ish sheen in the light. Beautiful ! Glad that it didn't give you a hard time.
Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)
Yeah, the blues were a bit of a surprise. She's kept them for quite a while after her molt, too! Thanks so much, bud!
Hello great video information and rehousing Tom
Thanks so much, Moon! I hope all is well with you!
These are hands down the slowest growers in my collection. They put my boehmi to shame
Yeah, mine have been fairly slow to molt.
Fantastic video. As usual, well done sir! Also like the terrifier shirt!
Thank you so much! And I love those movies, so I had to represent. haha
Have you seen the articulated slow character yet? I got one and it is really good 👍
@@TomsBigSpidersshow character....be ready for the next one in November.....
Awesome Terrifier shirt, even more awesome T!! She’s absolutely stunning I have such a soft spot for black with a blue or purple sheen, admittedly it was my go-to hair color as a teenager during the emo era 😂
Thank you, Skyler! I LOVE those movies. And I do, too. haha That's awesome!
She's very beautiful Tom!!!! Tyfs God bless you
Thank you so much, Debbie!

Brilliant video Tom, always very informative and very agreeable viewing, and that's a stunning species of spider 🕷.
Thanks so much, George! I hope that all is well with you!
That’s a beautiful t
Hey, bud! Love how it almost looks blue!
Great video again Tom, wish I'd known about these a few years ago, use to go to Turkey and Egypt regularly for snorkeling, I could have been out trying to find these aswell lol. Stunning T 👍🏻
Oh man...that would have been something to see them in the wild! Thanks so much for chiming in, Sean!
Hi Tom, Thank you for featuring the species, I've never of it before and now... I want one! Beatiful specimen you have.
It's been a while since you've purchase some MDesing shoe boxes and you've been searching a bit for a solution to close the enclosure. I've bought a few of the smaller size box and I've found that a metal O-ring glued (clear) to the side (flush with the cover) and a neodymium magnet 0.25inch glued in a 0.25inch hole is pretty sturdy and subtle for the esthetic. Hope this helps! Have a nice day and keep rocking \m/ \m/
That's a great tip, Michoz! Thank you so much! I will definitely have to try that out!
oh I saw that video too w the cheatopelmas living in the tomb and eating millipedes there were so many of them in that little space. I thought I might like to have this species but Ive never seen them for sale here. and now I have run out of spider space anyway and cant really get any more
Superloops! New pic? I've watched that video so many times. There is just something so cool about it. Hopefully, you manage to fit one into your collection someday. I hope all is well!
Beautiful species! I adore black tarantulas. Do you have any Tliltocatl schroederi in your collection? I got one a few months ago and her care has been fairly easy. But there seems to be very little information on them available online--at least compared to, say, the Grammostola pulchra.
I do not...yet. I definitely plan to get one in the future!
Yet another gorgeous spider! Love these vids!🕷♥️♥️♥️🕷
Thank you, Lisa!
Very beautiful. I haven't the black variant before. Almost as stunning as G. pulchra.
No joke; I keep my juvenile G. pulchra in the enclosure under hers, and when I first saw her, I thought it was the pulchra!
Another great spider I really like! I have 4 females. I use mini bricks to imitate a wall. They build strong webs between the stones. I have also seen them in the wild in Cyprus. They live in old stone walls next to each other. They are very hardy and they have no problems with low or high temperatures.
I have to say your "taste" in spiders is good Tom! (
And Shirts also 😉)
Wonderful little tarantula, and not as defensive as people say they are. Thx for the video and have a great weekend!
Greetings Chris 🤘
Hey, Chris! Thanks so much for chiming in with that. I definitley have to get more and try to create something like that. It would be so cool to see that type of behavior.
And I LOVE those movies, dude...thanks. haha
Hope all is well!
She’s beautiful!! I really like the setup you designed for her, I’m sure she’ll love it 😍
I’ve been doing the paper towel trick for a couple of years since I first saw you doing it and I only ever ended up needing it once (d pentaloris? I can’t remember any more) but was really glad for it in that moment!! Works like a charm 🕷❤
Thanks so much, Whitney! And that's awesome! We've only needed it maybe three times, but I was glad that I did it. It's a good precaution, especially for the fast ones. :)
Great video
Thanks, Chantal!!!
She's a beauty ❤
Thank you, Melanie!
Beautiful 💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤💙
Thank you, Candy!
Beautiful species, I was lucky enough to find one in the wild in Cyprus I do have the video on the channel, I found the wild specimen to be very docile in comparison to captive bred specimens. Hopefully I'll manage to find t.vagens and t.epicuranium when I visit the yucatan jungle next year in march. Great video as always buddy 😊
Hey, Robbie! Man, I'm so jealous! I think that I saw that video, but I'll have to double check. I would love to see some of these guys in the wild. Of course, that would actually mean me leaving the house. haha Hope all is well! Thanks!
@@TomsBigSpiders 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Tom, hope you’re doing well.
What a pretty looking Spider, she’s a gorgeous colour 💙🕷️
Hello, Joanne! I definitely can't complain...thank you!
Hi Tom I'm very interested in this species. I've read in several places the venom is "mild" (more like NW than OW) and was wondering if you can confirm? Or perhaps you've read the same and wouldn't know personally :)
Hello! I have read that a bite from these is like most Old World species. It would cause intense localized pain for several hours. I have not heard anything about it being mild, BUT there isn't much out there about their bites.
I believe mine is the Gold Version. It does burrow from what I can tell to find moisture and then it will climb up high and chill right on the lid like yours after I've misted it. I also noticed it's webbed up its cork bark, and idk why, if it's the layers of webs or what. But it's webbing has made the cork bark almost look like shiny rock/crystal instead of wood if you can believe that!
The webbing on the cork bark thing sounds so cool! Thanks so much for chiming in with your observations!
Ischnocolus valentinus as pointed out by someone else is actually the most european tarantula as they inhabit scrubby, dry broadleaf and pine forests in southern spain and reside under rocks or in holes in trees, they are a dwarf species that only grow to around 2 inches but still very cool, there are reports as well of a potentially new dwarf species found in another european island in the med, there is also chaetopelma karlamani which could be a colour morph of olivaceum but I'm pretty sure its a 2nd species also found on cyprus and in the middle east. Also as someone who lives in europe i really want this species but cant find it for sale anywhere reliable and yes wild specimens especially males are extremely defensive which i witnessed first hand while holidaying in turkey, they can spin around in threat pose faster than any T ive ever seen and make my obt and c. Fimbritaus look friendly.
Yeah, I screwed up with that one! Thanks for chiming in. I'll be curious to see how they end up labeled when taxonomists take a look at them.
Thanks for the update Tom .I live in the UK so kind of felt like I should get the only European tarantula, but they are practically not available here .
Wow, I would have assumed that they'd be super prevalent there!
i always overfill the water dish and mine lingers in the corner where that moisture collects but i'm not sure whether that's because of the moisture or just because that's its favourite corner.
All in all without having to do this on camera the rehouse of this one was easy peasy.
I love the easy ones, Joyce! haha Hope all is well with you!
It looks bright blue with the light on it on camera. Is it blue in person?
In person and under lower light, it's a dark blue/black.
We have a gold one that was about 1.5 inches before she burrowed down to the bottom of 3 inches of substrate and molted ..I can see the molt but haven't seen her in maybe 2 weeks .
She might be still hardening up. Congrats on the molt!
It's more aggressive as it grows
What size is yours, Angelo? I had a mature male that was skittish but not defensive.
I just caught one here in Israel and Im wondering if its a male or a female. Ill definitely be keeping it to find out soon.
Oh, man...that's so awesome! My male was pretty big and gangly. The female is still quite small. Stay safe over there!
Can you make an update on the chaetopelma olivaceum?
I'll do one down the road a bit as this one was just a month or so ago. So far, she's done a bit of webbing and has been hanging out in the open.
My slings just burrow right now
Hi, Stephen! Maybe they'll keep burrowing!
that shirt gives me nightmares! :)
Hahahah Sorry!
Bro i just listened to your podcast about the dead christmas tarantulas then the one that ripped off the heads and buried the bodies of the crickets.................was this a GWAR themed Christmas or something for shits sake
Haha The serial decapitator didn't take place on Christmas.
come on man scary clowns, really lmao, I'm not scared lol
It's Art the Clown from the Terrifier movies. I was giving my metal band shirts a break!
@@TomsBigSpiders i know i hate those clown movies lol. I recognized it, the only clown one i liked was Killer Clowns From Outer space lol.
I always found it interesting though, i find a gentleman dressed as a regular clown scarier than the purposeful scary clowns lol.
@jdssurf I have a Killer Klowns from Outer Space shirt too. Hahaha Love that movie!
@@TomsBigSpiders i actually have it from way back on vhs lol
great flick
twice catch them on different flats and let them go, what the hell they search in the house, night in israel probably some cold for them, i don't remember what time of year was first time, but today i catch second one:) sure outdoors he will be fine, i have no problem he live in home, but i afraid to step on him accidently, he lived in bathroom, i saw him couple a time there, but today i found him on kitchen, then in big room , and then i catch this guy and let him go thru window, first one was aggressive show teeth, this one exist only in 3 conditions sitting quietly, walking, and running:)
Thanks so much for chiming in with your experiences! Although I love mine, I don't know if I'd want to find one running across my bathroom floor. haha
@@TomsBigSpiders lol today i found another one:) he sat behind the toilet... till i don't see him on the floor where i'm walking, i'm ok, if i'll see this one will walks where i do, for don't accidently step on him, i'll catch his ass and let him go same way i did with his brother(covered with a paper glass and slipped a piece of paper)... probably he missing his brother btw lol
Tganks for sharing all the information u do helps some of us out alot keep up the great work mr moran I have a couple of these 1 for idk couple years came from ruth clwper at mostly reptiles arachnids and it's still maybe 2 in if that and seems to be bout the size I guess idk maybe it's a different species the one I've had for bout 2 years after a molt its really dark black but as it gets closer to molt it starts to turn a gold brown color with black patches but I picked one up from 8paws tarantulas and it's growing quite fast and it was really small when I got it so idk if I have 2 different species or a mislabeled one and the actual species idk but guess ill find out if the other starts to look similar I suppose and the one I got from ruth doesn't dig much and doesn't web hardly at all but the one from 8paws tarantulas has like 2 or 3 holes opened up so it's quite the lil digger and webs the tunnel up but not and excessive amount outside and for what ever reason both love curly bugs or the big isopods or dwarf whites they will extinct them from the tanks u keep em in and if ya feed em.to much they will not want to eat anything else if ya don't have em lol I found out the hard was and now have a mystery tote of dwarf whites and wild curly bugs I been raising
Thank you so much, Eric! And thank you for always taking the time to comment thoughtfully; I truly appreciate it.
On ur last video about the Psalmopoeus.irminia the bambridgei and pulcher also can double clutch now I'm unsure if the victori does or not as I've not had that species b4 so can't say bout it usually the second sack from the others usually comes several months after the first usually round when the first ones start to get mobile and possible leave the nest so like 3 months maybe 4 or that area and not as many babies as first sack either but still a good amount
Ahhhh...that makes total sense. If the P. victori double clutch, I would expect their prices to tumble soon. They are still pretty pricey...they'd so damned pretty, though!
@Tom Moran definitely a species I'm gonna have to get one day for sure I do Ratner like the colors one though
