I feel like more of the reason for the delayed release is that Minecraft's lore is something that players are supposed to figure out and interpret for themselves, and that making a movie would require revealing some of that lore.

@@TACTIK00L I feel like this is my point exactly. There is a lot of lore in Minecraft where it's up to the player to interpret how they may on their own time. The totem of undying in woodland mansions, the ankh on desert temples, the sherds in trail ruins, they all point towards a central message, although this message is widely disputed. This brings a lot of hype to Minecraft, which would be thrown away if Mojang were to explicitly state the lore.
they should base the movie off the book series by Max Brooks. basically its like you wake up one day, cant remember anything, and you're suddenly in this strange blocky world with strange rules, and need to figure out how to survive

The hostile mobs look fine honestly, but I really don't get why they felt the need to make the normal animals look the way they do- did they think it was funny?

I feel like the film should center on the nostalgia we have towards the game. My concept for the film centers on the seasoned, steak-loving and sarcastic adventurer Steve who spends his days residing in his own city, all by himself. Despite playing into the belief that he has everything he ever needs, his daily basis consists of mining, crafting, collecting as many resources as possible, then going to sleep, and repeat. His life has been tainted with boredom after his friends disappeared many years prior. Now he is fatigued, in search of some sort of aim, but is held back by his resentment towards the world because it is changing. The textures of blocks shifting in appearance, mobs differing in appearances, mobs and blocks being added… his only wish is for the world to revert to how it used to be before there’s nothing left of what the world was like back then. Back when he had his friends. Back when he was happy. However, his stasis in this world will soon change when a group of adventurers raid his city, ignite it with TNT and fire, and worst of all, respawn the Ender Dragon. Thus leading Steve into losing everything he has left. And from here on, a grand adventure of epic proportions begins when Steve is coerced into a starting a new life from scratch after uniting with a bright-eyed, yet naive dirt-house inhabitor named Alex, alongside the sassy, meat and belly rub loving dog, Dinnerbone. These adventurers must navigate through the changes of the world and find a way to thwart the Ender Dragon from a complete Overworld takeover, while also accepting that things will always change and that’s not a bad thing. It’s a good thing. It’s beautiful. Even though past memories may not be able to be experienced again, there’s always opportunities to create new ones.

You can go up or down, north, south, east or west, but you’re always going to find some way to _survive_ Max Brooks “The Island” did that pretty well, imo, because it covered this prospect on its own. And if we had something similar, we could have had an animated version and immediately, highest grossing movie. A nostalgia trip for the older players and attraction to the kids who just recently started getting into it. Whatever they do with the live action problem, narratively, I hope they do something like Minecraft Story Mode in the sense that the plot is unique with interesting references to each aspect of the game (such as redstone) and hopefully it’s not gonna be as simple as “kill the Enderdragon” but maybe someone like Herobrine could be the real villain and try to take advantage of Steve to do everything for him. An animated movie where Steve and Alex need to kill the Ender Dragon, as the corruption of the End dimension began to infect both the Nether and the Overworld, and they have a lot of enemies to fight along the way (illager raids, hostile mobs, piglins, the warden and stuff...)

Whatever they do with the live action problem, narratively, I hope they do something like Minecraft Story Mode in the sense that the plot is unique with interesting references to each aspect of the game (such as redstone) and hopefully it’s not gonna be as simple as “kill the Enderdragon” but maybe someone like Herobrine could be the real villain and try to take advantage of Steve to do everything for him. I’m just throwing ideas, what do you guys think?

the movie being live-action is probably what's kept it in development hell this whole time. i can't imagine a live-action Minecraft movie going well, but honestly if Jack Black is in it then i'm down, that man can make anything worth watching.
