I like the fact that they’re showing different specs of the vehicle... halogen, manual AC etc. I’d like to see that on normal car presentations
I have no intention of buying any of them but watched it anyway for another great Thomas review.

Very amusing review Thomas - many thanks. VW Transporter is car-like to drive and handy for small roads and parking, and for wild camping. But think I’d prefer a Long Wheel Base version with Hi-Top and space for a separate bathroom!

This looks like such an easy van for anyone to go camping with, not like a huge RV or trailer. Anyone who can drive a regular car can use this for camping in the forest, at the beach, etc. VW would make millions exporting this to USA. Americans love camping!

Oh Thomas, you left out the best part of you climbing up into the top bunk! I've seen a video of the long wheeled version (with shower/toilet cubicle)and looks really impressive.

Autogefühl, I know but it was only Thomas plonking his derriere on the bed up top! Was hoping to see him climb off from the floor to the bed, least then people had got a better idea. It looks virtually impossible for someone in their 50 to clamber up there as to someone 20 years their Junior, and the VW campervan isn’t exactly CHEAP! It’s possibly marketed for people slightly older at that price!
Yea my favorite is the ocean version too thomas and, can’t get marco polo over here in America so, the Volkswagen is a great settlement. Thomas never fails to make me laugh always saying something funny, i love Autogefühl 😍

California is by far the coolest camper 😍, Vw biggest improvement would be to change there manual handbrake to a electric one,It would free up the floor space & would be a help when swivelling the front seats round, Electronic handbrake would also help the adaptive cruise control in traffic, Easy folding seats would a plus when turning the front seats round, I love my t6 California ocean 😍 please VW listen to your customers 🙏
100% Agree with the electric handbrake comment. Also add removing the bulging gear lever to that same list so you can easily pivot into the rear.
Ahhhhh, the love in at the VW van continues! I was nervous, well more like frightened you were going to reveal Brian inside the van sleeping..... you know, in some kind of state of undressedness (ok that's not a word but I thought it was funny ;) ) I hope you don't sleep in your suit Thomas. Solid review, this thing is fascinating.

Amazing
I really like these cars and have been doing it ever since the T3 came on the market as a camper and syncro. The challenge is the price. The VW T6 California is way too expensive (at least here in Denmark). Unfortunately, I think VW has priced itself out of the market for younger enthusiasts who want to enjoy the freedom these cars provide. It is sad when you consider how the youth lifestyle of the 60s and 70s has become popular again.
The new price of these Vans is ridiculous expensive for what it is . I love them ! But it's really out this world what charge you ask for these ....

Re the Australian comment. Correction, Australia has had dual sliding doors since they came out on the T5. VW Australia unfortunately does not import the California. The T2 Bay window original factory Kombi camper was also legendary down under and was common for drivers to wave to each other passing on outback country roads. Smaller VW Campers in Australia are only after market modified Transporters. The windows and roof are cut out in the process so you need to be careful of rust developing in those areas.
As far as i understand they didnt offer this generation with double door so far, thats why?
I personally prefer the Westfalia VW conversion , with a proper toilet and L shape lounge. Its a far better layout in my humble opion to spend a few nights out in the van.
I'm thinking of trading in my E-series merc for one of these. I never use it except for long journeys and summer holidays so this would be much better.
It's ironic they named it California and yet they won't sell it to California, USA. VW doesn't know their market. Camper vans are BIG right now with the USA culture.

lol, in the late 1980s my dad tried to teach me a manual transmission in a VW camper like the one in this video. That stickshift was the worst ever and that made me never want to own a stickshift. Then my friend showed me how much better a manual transmission is in his Honda Accord, I loved it so much that I bought a 1988 Honda Prelude in stickshift. Sadly, I gave up my stickshift for 25 years because I got married and had kids so it was a life of sedan dad cars, minivans, and SUV. In 2017 when my son could finally drive I gave him my old car, then I bought for myself a 2017 Corvette Stingray in a manual transmission at 48 years old (luckily before I got a heart attack a year later at 49). I'm 50 now and I enjoy my 2017 Corvette Stingray in a manual transmission every day commuting to work.

Do you think the Radio/heat control section of the dashboard is angled towards the driver more than in the T5/T6? It looks as though it is.
What about security. How can you prevent it from being stolen. I imagine thieves would go to a lot of trouble to steel one of those things.
No electric version... sad... I had hoped for that, considering the new multivan/caravelle/transporter come in electric versions.

My problem with these are that they are SO expensive and not anywhere near as large or as specced as a converted van by many motor home companies which are far cheaper. Crazy.
The crazy thing is that this is not available for sale in California..... or anywhere else in the US.

You can buy the Westfalia campervan version. They make 4 types, 3 are long wheelbase.

Reviewers tend to forget the driving part when they review camper vans. Its a shame, since that also is an important part to consider.

These need to be fully electric.
This type of car (van) really needs a steering column shifter.
wordpress / Why, they are mostly automatic gearboxes (DSG), once You put it in forward, there is enough room to reach the climatcontrols
The T7 will get a Drive-by-Wire gearbox which will be a lot smaller.

Daft price and the update is minimal...guess these are for wealthy older folks trying to re-live something...dunno it's a mystery really. These things are still glorified Van's based on a twenty year old body shell.

@@autogefuehl die bauen ja auch nicht nur Autos mit rechtslenkung. Das wäre das richtige Beispiel eben gewesen. Ihr macht aber eure Berichte nur in englisch und da passt kein deutscher Name. Vorallem mit ü was in englischsprachigen Raum überhaupt nicht exestiert.

Was soll eigentlich das Geplenke? Hat Dir in der Schule niemand gesagt, dass man vor einem Satzzeichen kein Leerzeichen setzt? Wenn dir die Reisschüsseln gefallen fahr sie gerne weiter, meinen Geschmack treffen sie definitiv nicht.
Alle meine VAG-Fahrzeuge haben übrigens nie einen Liter Öl gebraucht. Hat alles bis zum Ölwechsel gereicht. A4 B5, mit 300.000 Kilometern verkauft. A4 B8, mit 220.000 Kilometern verkauft. Mein Passat B8 hat jetzt 120.000 Kilometer gelaufen. Auch da musste ich bisher nie einen Liter Öl nachfüllen. Alles Benziner übrigens. Ich kenne genug Toyotafahrer die keine Probleme mit ihren Autos haben, aber auch genug die sich nie wieder einen holen werden. Es kochen alle nur mit Wasser.

Amazing how no one cares about the engine these days.....well, I guess that you can't maintain it yourself, so why even look at it.......take it to the dealer.....$$$$$$
