Thank you Nick. I am not a lender or a borrower. If I give something I don't expect back. I don't track favors either. Keeps life simple.
Spot on Nick! A good mentor helped me at every phase of my career. I would have left at 4, but mentors like you gave me a successful career of 22 years in two branches.
Agree completely with everything you’ve said. I’ve appreciated your channel as I’ve been starting out in the Corps. Mobility/recovery is a big one I’ve heard from reserves/guard, active, and vets. Julia Repel has a lot of good stuff on RUclips for that. She’s my top pick so far, but there’s a handful of really good ones on here. I still need to starting getting into the resources we have in the Corps and DoD in general.
Im about to head to bootcamp this summer, thank you for letting me us know ahead of time what to look out for
So, I was a Judge Advocate and I had a legal assistance billet. I also have an MBA and a Masters of Finance (POG shit, I know; just hear me out). I dealt with divorces, angry ex girlfriends, paternity and custody issues, all kinds of shit. The one piece of advice I can give that is low hanging fruit is: DO NOT RACK UP DEBT ON YOUR MILITARY STAR CARD. The star card is supposed to be a benefit, designed to give servicemembers access to credit and help them build a credit score - but it really isn't. While it may have competitive rates and no generally no credit checks...there's a reason for that. The US Government is the creditor. This means you generally cannot discharge the debt through bankruptcy. It also means they can garnish your wages for non-payment without having to take you to court. I had several junior Marines come to me for help, and the best I could do was offer them advice on how to slowly pay it off - I couldn't get them out of it. Debt is generally a dangerous thing, but this kind of debt is one of the worst.
That's right! It's not knowing the answer that's important, it's knowing where and how to find the answer!
I love these video brother. Especially misguided information I had that problem in my first unit, I looked up on my own with the orders and doctrines.
Happy Tuesday Nick!
Something else I saw near bases was predatory car loans. Low down payment with low monthly payments with a hidden balloon payment at the end.
Thanks for great tips
I'm thinking about joining the Marine Corps when I'm older. Thanks for this!
One mistake that I think you forgot think long and hard about the one you marry. Will that person be the person that will go along with your career. And be there for the long haul. And will also help with your financial goals. ( Younger Nick) I'm sure you already thought about this but there's a lot of them that haven't PS all them really help great job
1: Dont get into debt like car debt.
2: Dont take people's word as gospel just go to the source. The written official source.
3: Mobility training daily.
4: Listen to advice.
"mustang Captain" what exactly does this mean?
Prior enlisted Officer.
Are we related?! It’s kind of an uncommon last name
Now I'm intrigued. What was past Nick's sweet car debt? lol
Not car debt. Just less than intelligent decisions elsewhere. I’ve driven a Ford Fusion for the last 12 years.
