    From a veteran now 50, hug your kids for as many times as they’ll let you. I’m blessed that my 19 year old son still lets me hug him. Love is nothing to be embarrassed about.

    It’s rare now to find a man that appreciates the simple truths in life like this now. Even less so in the marines. ❤

    Very wise words, Mr. Varner, and I think the concept you were thinking about was:
    Saudade is a Portuguese word that has no direct English translation, but it describes a profound, melancholic longing or nostalgia for a person, place, or experience from one's past. It encompasses a deep, joyful connection and appreciation for those cherished memories, even tinged with a bittersweet quality.
    When looking at a photograph of a past experience you deeply cherished, saudade allows you to vividly and emotionally reconnect with the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings of that moment. It's not just a visual recollection, but a holistic, embodied recollection that brings you right back to that treasured memory, capturing the mix of happiness, longing, and appreciation one feels when reflecting on formative experiences from the past.

    As veteran also, solid advice. Regardless of who you are, listen to this and do it. I wish I did this in my 20s. Life would be different. For the better.

    Love the one where you don't let go hugging your child first!! That'll definitely be something i don't do. I don't think i do already bc my son is usually passing me away bc i won't let go. 😂😂

    One lesson I think I would teach myself, to stop the hard lesson that I learned in my mid-twenties is; "Do not try to prepare your troops for the military you know, because it no longer exists."

    I like to say life intervened rather than things didn't work out. It makes it more of a detour than a failure. It may suck in the moment, but hopefully we can pivot and make the new path the right path.
    Always set your retirement savings to be taken out of your paycheck before taxes to reduce your tax burden, and split your paycheck between savings and checking when you set up direct deposit. It really does make saving easier, even if it's a small amount. Best advice I got from my first boss.

    My mother in law Hod rest her soul - didnt want ANY pain meds when her kids were around at the last few months of life. And we lived at that hospital hotel at that point, my hubby, father in law, our daughter and I. ( my son was little scared of the tubes and stayed at home. My mother in law kept her promise and said goodbye to him after she past. Ghost/Angels are real. My life experience proved it). She was the one who wanted to always rember to cherish the moments AND she was the one who ALWAYS took pictures. She was a wise woman. And i wish i could go back in my 20s and cherish her more. I met her beforr o dated her oldest son.

    That last lesson is why I'm glad I'm glad I didn't have social media when I was young. We lived in the moment so much. They're memories for us, not moments. The pictures we took aren't content, they're frozen memories. I wish younger ppl now could have that

    • @FenrirAldebrand

      I'm extremely glad I live in an era where everyone (pretty much) has a camera. I have a good memory for how to do things, and general facts and knowledge, but my episodic memory, my life memories, are terrible. No matter how present I am, or how much I enjoyed the moment, I can't hold onto 90% of my memories for longer than 5 years. 😢

  • @kuyaali956
    @kuyaali956 4 месяца назад +2

    For the new generation, enjoy the moment and pictures. But if your posting it for high fives and likes, you're doing it for attention and not truly loving the moment. It's your moment in life to remember, not the world.

  • @charleslundy7545
    @charleslundy7545 4 месяца назад +2

    When taking pictures develop them, because digital photos are lost to computer evolution. And yes enjoy every moment.
    I have ONE Army Photo left. Myspace was eventually deleted. Flash drives lost, phones always break. I dont have a strong memory for anything.

    ...On second thought, 90% of life not going to plan may actually have been my first adult lesson. 🤔

    You need to share your skin care routine. I thought you were 25 or something. Didn't know you got them babies running around. For some reason, guys have it in them to look as mature and older as possible. But you're not getting any younger, so you're winning a losing race
