Thanks Hans. Now we have a chapter list. Ho. Ho. Ho.
Final fantasy 3 should easily be on the top 10. Has held up well even for today’s rpgs.
A few years ago, I made the mistake of dusting off my Zelda - Link to the Past to give it a go again. I got so hooked that I fell behind on other priorities, work took a hit, etc. It was a bit scary, I had to hide the game away again for the “greater good”.
It's very easy to get sucked in again.
Yikes.
Please get it back out and do not do anything else until completed. On my death bed I will never regret a single time playing this. By far the greatest game ever in my eyes.
Super Castlevania IV still holds up today.
Agree!
@@marcamico5254 I know that it is regarded as the worst, but I remember loving Castlevania II - Simon’s Quest back in the day.
Symphony of night was the best imo
@@GabrielBishop Castlevania SotN and Super Metroid triggered a new game genre : Metroidvanias
Those two should be on all best games list...
Hurrah for Shining Force 2. It's one of the greatest of all time
And we still have no worthy arrangement of its over world theme.
Good vid but I'd strongly argue for SF2 Turbo rather than SF2. Apart from including the bosses and various gameplay upgrades and additions, its speed is much more reminscient of a modern game. As monumental as it was, the original SF2 feels a bit sluggish by today's standards.
I know Turbo is more popular than Super in the States, but I have to mention it is the superior SF2 version on the SNES. The first thing you will say now is that the speed sucks, but it is adjustable in the main menu. Other than that, more characters, more moves for each characters, more game modes, better graphics and better sound.
Besides that, Alpha 2 (or Zero 2) it is crazy that this game even runs on the SNES Hardware.
Came here to say the same thing!
@@stefanfriedrich6699nah, super Street fighter 2 was nowhere near as good as Turbo. The gameplay was way less satisfying somehow.
If I was trapped on an island and had only these 10 games I would not be in any hurry to be rescued.
Thank you
You'd probably still want to be rescued cause you'd have no food.
@@Simon0Manhattan is an island and there is plenty of food there.
@@Hampsteri42 oh yeah. Well. You knew what I meant anyway 😎
I’m just envisioning sitting on an island with ten video game cartridges deteriorating in the salty air
i stll play super metroid, i dont know you guys but everyime i play it i discover something new and thats awesome!!
Super metroid is awesome - I mean the music alone crates such an atmosphere. Sadly I have played it through too many times wit h couple of "get everything" runs so the magic of "maybe theres something I havent't dscovered" is gone. But I remember well how I used to play allmost to the end and then strat going through all the rooms X-raying everything.
Mario, all stars, the sonic trilogy, streets of rage trilogy, turtles in time, and Mario kart, 64
I almost passed out playing a heated game of Mario Kart 64
Yes! SoR2 was and is pure gold! The gameplay, all the moves, the versatile cast and the insane soundtrack
I still enjoy it very much
I honestly think most retro games that were considered great back then still hold up today. Some are even better than everything that comes out now. Maybe that’s why everything is being remade nowadays.
All 8-bit and 16-bit games that were good back in the day are just as good now. It's only PS1-PS2 era games that might not have aged well due to the graphics being 3D. Even so, some of them are still great games (like ff7,ff9, gt4, dq8, gow ,etc)
I find castlevania Symphony of the night the best aged ps1/Saturn game. I recently played it on Android and it doesn't feel old at all
@@stijnvonck1431 yea and the original Rayman for PS1 , still great to look at
I love that Mrs. Doubtfire narrates this.
🤣🤣
Can’t say I’m surprised most of the title were from the SNES.
I could not start with some frames from the best game ever: Chrono Trigger.
Anyway, I totally agree with the list and happy you remembered less famous titles such as Shining Force 2 and Gunstar Heroes (I also love Guardian Heroes for Sega Saturn, still unbelievable game)
People complain about video game prices but all these games released at $50+. I remember buying Street Fighter 2 for the SNES for $70 around 1991. That’s equivalent to around $160 today. Great list and I love all these games
On the other hand, thousands of Trash games were sold for the same 160
I lived in a small border town in Victoria Australia for a bit, there was only one store that sold games and I paid $130 for doom on the snes in around 92…
A lot of gamers these days don't understand the concept of inflation, it seems, they're just fixated on that magical number 60 for a price point. Someday when eggs cost us $60 they'll probably still insist videogames be no more than $70...
for 50 bucks i got one of those fake consoles and played all those games for free like 500 in 1 game or so
At least back then, when you bought a game, that was all that you had to pay to play it…
Such amazing replay-ability on this list! I encourage a DOS/PC list too! Police/Kings/Space quest, leisure suit Larry…. So many good ones out there, especially from Sierra.
Great list. Anytime the Shining Force series gets mentioned im all for it.
A good ol' game of Worms, Gauntlet or Bomberman still goes down well on Lads Night :D
@@stuartdavidson162 awesome games
I was unprepared for the way you pronounce Retro and Tetris. Still loved the video 😂
Ha ha. That's my geordie accent 🤣

I still play streets of rage 2. The best.
been playing the game for over 30 years
🎉 streets of rage so sweet enjoy all 4 of them nice review fellow gamer Nice😎✨️✨️✨️
Thank you, fellow gamer 💪
*Shows Chrono Trigger as the opening clip.* My reaction: “yup, this is legit. I’m watching this whole video.”
🤣 thank you
I've been playing Zelda with retro arch. It is indeed still very good today.
Earthbound , ff vi , lufia , lufia 2 , Chrono trigger , Castlevania symphony of the night ,Rockman series , ninja gaiden (ryukenden) 1-3 , Metroid , double dragon series, dragon force 1-2 are my list 😊
That's a great list! Thanks for watching.
EarthBound is a really underrated game.
Sor2. Thanks. Thats very honest.
I gotta say, thats a really honest list and video.
Congratz mate, cheers from Brazil!
@funcionapramim thanks for watching. Brazil, very cool. I'm a big fan of Bruno Giumaraes and Joelinton ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
Legend Of Zelda: Link To The Past is STILL my all time favorite game ever and the game I credit solidifying me as a gamer for life.
Loved when after you beat the game, then the world flips to the dark world and you have to fight new monsters and the worlds becoming slightly different in areas and going between time to traverse certain parts!...BRILLIANT game.
These are all good, SF2 isn't even near as good gameplay than these others, but it's a cult game. From PC I would say Half-Life and C&C games to this list. From the SNES U.N. Squadron and FFs
This is a solid list! Super Metroid and Streets of Rage 2 would definitely be on my list as 2 and 1 as you have them.
2 turbo still holds up
I bought Zelda and Super Metroid when they just came out but i have to say that Super Metroid is still my all time favorite game.
I've discovered SoR 2 around 2016 i think (did not own a Sega Genesis back then) and instantly fell in love with it. Played the game with my son when he was only 4 and he enjoyed it... An absolute classic... Also played a hack of it with SF characters (Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim & Guile)
Great list there bud, it only in the last 3 years I've played link to the past but was blown away how good it was 😃 streets of rage 2 on the megadrive is quality 👌
Here's some I would add.
1. Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
2. Lunar: The Silver Star Sega CD version
3. Lunar: Eternal Blue Sega CD version
4. Suikoden I and II
5. Dragon Warrior III and IV
6. Super Mario Bros III
7. Final Fantasy VI
Great list!
We would've gotten along like brothers back in the day! Suikoden and FF6 are my two favorite RPGs ever!
@@johntracy72 I like it
Having a Modded Sega Megadrive is a Great Feelin. Now i wanna play these games again.
There are a TON of games not on this list: Actraiser, Final Fight, Dragon Warrior, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Super Castlevania IV, Bionic Commando, Final Fantasy II, Contra, Fable, U.N. Squadron, Turtles IV, Wizards & Warriors, Mega Man II, Gradius III, etc.
metal slug
Great list! Love seeing Wizards and Warriors included!
How bout the amazing DKC?

Great video brother! Ill be watching closely for more great content like this from you
Thank you so much brother, I've got plenty more stuff lined up.
FF6 omission kinda criminal

So true! I consider this one of the best rpgs of all time.
I just got the rg28xxsp in the black transparent like yours with the case. I loved your top 10 list and enjoyed the gameplay.
Thank you so much
GREAT LIST MY G
Excellent list. Would be similar to mine. I didn’t play Super Metroid until the SNES classic came out and I was still hooked. Timeless title along with Streets of Rage 2.
They just never get old my friend. Thanks for watching.
I never got into any of the _Metroid_ games until somebody started mashing them up in a randomizer with _A Link to the Past._ But now that I have, I've got to say that they look pretty fun, if they're actually survivable for more than five minutes...!!

Streets of rage 2 my favorite game forever

So i go with:
Link to the past
Super metroid
Shinobi 3
Yoshi island
Final fantasy 6
Streets of rage 2_3
Lost vikings
Comix zoon
Donkey Kong 3
Sonic 2
Contra 3 _ hardcorps
Great list 👌
The original Prince of Persia (1989) would always make my list. Just an incredible game.
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for making it.
Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate it.
I still play super turbo daily. I just beat Megaman x1 and 100% everything, going to move on to mmx2 for the switch. I'd put contra3 over gunstar. And streets of rage is too high. Super metroid was amazing for it's time and good today. So many secret moves in the game.

Good selection! Not sure about your #1 choice, but the rest are good.
Probably the first list I have ever seen that carried both Shining Force 2 and Chrono Trigger without having Final Fantasy 3 (or 6, take your pick) as well
Growing up with Nintendo was great from 5 to 12 i had the nes then then from 12 to 18 snes then 64 and the ps1 . Games like supermario world And donkey kong country i wish kids today could feel the feelings i had seeing and hearing that game for the first time in that era. Every year some new tech or graphics came out. I think the golden age ended when we could play arcade perfect games at home as back then that was tge ultimate dream to have arcade quality at home. So lucky i was as an 80s 90s kid i turned 18 a month before new years eve 99 which is drinking age where i from. Who knew at the time those were the golden years for the world 88 to 08
Happy times
I didn't think you'd have gunstar heroes because id assumed it wasn't as well known. One of my absolute favourites.
It's a really great game.
I have a handheld emulator and even with its vast selection of games at my fingertips I mostly find my go to game being the OG Tetris for Gameboy ( although I do have multiple versions on NES,SNES, GBA, DS & n64 )
It's timeless. Thanks for watching.
SOR2 no doubt.
You know it, thanks for watching.
Great video. Subbed!
Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
Almost spit out my coffee at your mention of Shining Force II - - a great surprise! Underappreciated!!
Thanks for watching 💪
Tmnt - turtles in time/hyperstone heist both still hold up well
They really do
Great list!!
Thank you
The first Zelda holds up more than Link to the Past
That's a fair comment
Good thing it was in there, because if Chrono Trigger wasn't on this list I was going to riot. Best RPG ever made, no contest.
It's such a wonderful game.
Final Fantasy VI (or III) is close on it’s heels but can’t beat the artstyle of Crono!
Chrono Trigger is the greatest game ever made.
Suikoden II is right up there with Chrono Trigger
As far as I'm concerned Chrono Trigger is as close to a perfect game as can be made, though Sifu is a modern game that I'd put in that running as well. Just need more time to pass to really know if it holds up like how Chrono Trigger does.
Streets of rage maniac lvl for president.
Hope your channel grows bro. Keep it going.
@tokenblack7983 thank you, I appreciate it.
Great list! I’d have to replace streets of rage 2 with turtles in time… but that just me.
@trav7424 good shout!
Great selection of cult classics I could only agree with.
Maybe I was only surprised to see Shining Force II in this top ten. It is a great and excellent game of course but I would have personnally replaced it by Final Fantasy VI or by Zombies ate My Neighbors in retro games top ten. Such choices are pretty arguable too though...
However, that does not change anything to the fact that your proposed selection here is a top notch one. Proof of concept is, all these games were hacked over and ver multiple times to improve their original experience (if not event, in some attempts to propose "the definitive version of the game").
Well, all of them but Gunstar Heroes, maybe (improving anything to Gunstar Heroes is quite hard - not sure of what exactly could be improved with this one)...
FFVI and Zombies are great shouts. Maybe I should do another list? Thanks for watching.
I love the mix of consoles. A nice change of pace from console specific lists.
Thank you
Of course that Super Mario World worth to play. But actually I must say the most interesting about this game is his incredible hacks community !!
There are some tremendous hacks.
Great Video! It’d be an IP nightmare to get all the titles in this video in one console, but WOW what a console this would be! I get my retro fix via the SNES Classic. It has 5 of these titles (SMWorld, Zelda:Link, SF2, MegamanX, SMetroid) and then some suitable substitutes for others. Contra3 for ChronoTrigger, Secret of Mana or MarioRPG for ShiningForce. Alas Ghosts&Gouls or DKCountry don’t hold up to StreetsOfRage2 and there’s no true puzzle game like the masterpiece that is Testris , but not a bad fair considering it has a few kart racers, 2 StarFox games, SPunchOut and SCastlevania4. I love these retro condensed consoles and this video list would be a lot of gamers dreams come true.
🔥😎🔥
Thank you so much. I have the SNES Classic too, I modded it to include a lot more games that came on it.
Did you do the mod yourself? That would be a fantastic video to watch. 😉
@steelman774 I did, it's very easy.
Great feakin' list!!!
Great freakin' comment! 🤣 Thanks for watching.
Metal slug and outrun are still very enjoyable
Very much so.
Wild that Shining Force 2 made the list of DKC 1 or 2
Wow, no NES love?
Mighty Final Fight? Super Mario Bros. 3? River City Ransom? Power Blade? Megaman 2 or 3? Ducktails?
Shining Force is such an amazing series. I'm still waiting for a full Shining Force 3 discs 1-3 localisation, SEGA; GET ON IT!
Good video, but I think many of these area already so well known at this point, so I'm going to offer my own top 10 games from 4th gen in no particular order.
Alien Soldier
Shinobi III
Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana
Strider
TMNT: Turtles in Time
Dragon Quest V
Wild Guns
The Ninja Warriors
Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen

I would have swapped Gunstar for Turtles in Time and my order might have been different because of taste, but a solid list nonetheless
I was not expecting SOR2 in the top spot, but after thinking about it and the fact that this is a list of games that still hold up today....I can't say I disagree.
How does Toe Jam and Earl not make the list, especially with that thumbnail background?
I agree with your list but ya got the order wrong. Chrono Trigger should be at #1 and the rest can be in whatever order after that.

I have never been able to get into Super Mario World. I loved DokiDoki Panic (I mean SMB2) and SMB3 is my favourite mario of all time, and have been a fan of the 3D games, and I have even been heavily involved in the Super Mario Maker community, but I just can’t enjoy SMW.
for me i'd say my top 5 in no particular order are street fighter 2 turbo SNES, mortal kombat SNES, killer instinct SNES, final fight 3 SNES, street of rage 2 SMD,
A fighter fan 💪
Lets be honest, since it was released Streets of Rage 2 was the solid gold standard for side scrolling beat em ups and was only ever dethroned by Streets of Rage 4!
Not even then.
If we are talking console releases only, I got to say Turtles in Time for me was more enjoyable, but still SoR2 was up there. If we include arcade releases as well, it wasn't even top ten, with things like Alien vs Predator, The Punisher, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, just to name a few, kicking its butt all day long
Funny, most of the games I played when they came other… The Sega-Games I never played, but most of the SNES-Games. Except Crono Trigger, of which I never heard back in the day.
It‘s a good list of solid games. Can‘t argue with that.
Glad to see Tetris on this list and Chrono Trigger. I think CT should be higher but i get that it being a RPG makes it a harder sell but holy cow it is easily one of the best games ever. Super Metroid should of been #1. Streets of Rage is good but not #1 IMO.
NES Metal Gear.
SNES ShadowRun.
@@canadairishguy Shadowrun features in my Best SNES RPGs video

Streets of Rage?!? You want a Beat-Em-Up with character, give me TMNT2 or Double Dragon.

Super Mario world at number 10 is unforgivable
@@sirris4330 where should it be?
They’re all from the 16 bit generation. Well except for Tetris. I guess that’s the only generation that aged well.

Your #1 is a good choice too. But actually, Street Of Rage Remake from Bomber Games is MUCH better than the three original SoR Games. It's simply a huge love letter to any fans of the series. Totally must play value !!!
I've never played it. I will check it out.
