I met Kool Keith when i was 12 on Melrose Ave. Los Angeles ,the year was 1999 he was standing outside a white drop top cutlass, rocking a zebra stripe kangol and a purple utah jazz jersey hollering at honeys. Me and my boy got autographs and kept it moving, much respect always!!!
I met him in 99 too at Love psrk in Philly. he was therecwatching us all skate cause one of my buddies put "Blue Flowers" in his segment for a skate video. he was cool as hell.
This is usually the case in music though. The most influential and cutting edge groups aren't mainstream because they are creating the waves that mainstream rides. Like PIxies, Sonic Youth, Kraftwerk in the rock world. Kool Keith is one of these individuals in hop hop that creates the waves that others ride.
It's funny how these so called heavyweight rappers will never mention Kool Keith's name because they know they don't even come close to his status. Real living legend.
One of the greatest MCs of ALL TIME. No one touches kool keith, but MANY have bitten his styles. He's created so many styles and influenced an ENORMOUS amount of hip hop. If you don't know kool keith, something is wrong with you. No one does it like him and no one else ever will again. Amazing.
DOOM is good, but he's no Kool Keith. Keith has demonstrated a wider vocabulary and he probably could rhyme like DOOM if he wanted to, but he's more interested in trying different styles and pushing boundaries.
Malakai Maiden ya man started rappin yesterday he didn't take the test today go pay your dues and step outta my rap shoes and go tell the truth to John Sally on nbc news uncreative black boy you wack boy acting like a genius notice I call u boy... copy what u want to steal my stuff
First record by Kool Keith was Dr. Dooom - First Come First Served. That album immediately made me want to find more Kool Keith, and after that I was hooked. My favorite rapper since 2007. Oh and the new album is amazing. The beats are simplistic to a point, but the lyrics are above and beyond.
When you look at the history of rap and see how unbelievably easy it is for huge, huge rappers to slide into obscurity almost over night and then you relate that to what Keith has done and for how long he has done it? I don't think anyone can argue that he is the greatest of all-time.
The only MC I can think of with as many albums and stain in the game, is another LEGENDARY BX RAP GOD....KRS_ONE......SOUTH BRONX ALL DAY!!!..I guess yal know where I'm from ,,LOL
I'm still a Double K fan after all these years. I was late to the Kool Keith game, wasn't until 96 and I got Octagon on CD. I remember walking down Las Vegas Blvd in 2000 and seeing Dr. Dooom Stickers & Posters on light posts. I bought every Kool Keith project on CDs and Vinyl.
Such a valid point he brought up. Back then you could tell who was rappin by sound of their voice and by the style they had and nowadays it's bloody hard to tell who is actually stammering random noises into a mic. Probably one of the reasons why so many peops stick to boom bap or the golden age era.
That has to be one of the best freestyles I've seen someone be put on the spot to do. That could be cut right on a record room floor and top 10 hit no shit.
Kool Keith is hands down the most replicated MC in the history of HipHop. Listen to his early stuff and listen to current MC in the game today and you can hear the influence. He is absolutely right about sounding different back in the day. His talent and eccentric personality can not be matched but always imitated.
I always forget about him when I rank my favorite albums or rappers. He is a legend and really cares about the art of it. The man has made the best concept albums and no one makes those anymore.
I was blunted in Fat Beats melrose, maybe about 2000. I picked up a Kook Keith record ( an actual record ) and standing next to me was.... boom..... kool keith. Didn't know, I was dumbfounded.
Welcome to weaponworld was great indeed, as the caller says. I really like his projects with Kurt. Masters of Illusion is one of the great great classic albums to me. Right up there with Critical Beatdown
I'm an old man, impressed by nothing.....I got all gushy and like, 'imagine if I got in on the phone and Kool Keith asked me how I was doing and I got to say 'I'm good and yourself, Kool Keith!'😆
*26:00 Guest freestyles. Highly recommended. I appreciate how light hearted and playful he is. I've admired the guest for a long time. New York Cities number one MC. That's real G. He's always been true to his own ideas about what the art form should be, that it is an art form; closest he came to selling out was Black Elvis and I still play that, I'm still living astro.
I disagree with what Sway said about if your an "A" someone writes for you but if you write your own you are an "A+" People who don't write and only perform are "D" level. wtf I want to respect that for?
1. Kieth is the truth 2. Can someone please send me a store link to that mic arm/boom I have been searching everywhere for it. PLEASE! 3. Necro's verse on Feature Magnetic is my favourite Necro drop of all time.
Rex Roland is responsible for the next Analog Brothers project he's also doin a album called psychedelic pimp giant robot...Rex Roland was the mastermind behind the whole thing
The Octogan! One of the most innovative and comedic lyricists ever. Way ahead of his time. That off kilter style he got is cold. Much respect from the Midwest
been listening ever since tim dog's penicillen on wax,91 i think...Always been the craziest emcee, lyrically clever and beyond! I wouldn't have known of kool keith if it weren't for tim dog!! The legacy continues is always in rotation, keith n tim colab, hardcore as fuck, aint nobody happenin nomore!

I met that cat at a analog brothers show he was on special k and e and ripped that shit ice t didn't even rock the mic.
That's that Guru GangStarr shidd son Keep on moving
I met him in 99 too at Love psrk in Philly. he was therecwatching us all skate cause one of my buddies put "Blue Flowers" in his segment for a skate video. he was cool as hell.
Damn lucky I wish I met kool keith
I love how he can say "I've always been ahead of my time" and know that it is 100% accurate and him saying so without any ego.
The small amount of views is showing me that the people don't really know what's going on, hip hop culture in it's raw and true form......
NO IT JUST MEANS HE IS IRRELEVANT
I'm guessing you are 17 years old??
WWeRockFan1001 watch your mouth dude. Kool Keith is a legend

WWeRockFan1001 kool Keith is your God . Bow down to one of The Greatest !
It's funny how these so called heavyweight rappers will never mention Kool Keith's name because they know they don't even come close to his status. Real living legend.
Legendary
Canibus collabed with him...and almost every great mc ever
He does it so effortlessly. He's like the heart surgeon who walks around the hospital...
@MiiiĆHÄËL ÄFRiiiCÄ TUCKER .. yes . Em' the pinnacle if Hip Hop fame .. but doesn't hesitate shining light on his influences
@Goopy Le Grande For real? I love Wu Tang but Rza would get destroyed by KK and his rhymes. He's nowhere near his lyrical style.
One of the greatest MCs of ALL TIME. No one touches kool keith, but MANY have bitten his styles. He's created so many styles and influenced an ENORMOUS amount of hip hop. If you don't know kool keith, something is wrong with you. No one does it like him and no one else ever will again. Amazing.
Facts
Him and MF DOOM make the collection
He's also one of those MCs that people either love or hate. There is no in-between. That's when you know someone is truly great
My favorite MC since a teenager.... The original
I agree. There is also AZ
25:23 for the freestyle. Shit is awesome.
thank u sir
thank you!!
What beat is that? I can't call it off-hand. 95% it's a Havoc beat.
Mobb Deep feat Kool G Rap The Realest from Murda Muzik album
Thanks, man.
"I threw a rat with mayonnaise at your headlights" hardest line out there.
4 blonde girls screamed and turned on their high beams
Even 'Here is some bread ' ' There is a horse in the hospital ' sounds funny wen it came from kool keith's mouth
Some classic dooom
Back of Burger King eating a raw pack if chicken wings
Put used diapers on your windshield wipers
What also made Kool Keith so good is the beats he raps on. Original, futuristic, hard bass lines, no nonsense, no trends.
got songs from Dr. Octagonecologyst and Critical Beatdown about a week ago, and I have to say, Kool Keith is amazing and quite underrated
KOOL KEITH IS ONE OF THE BEST HIP HOP LYRICIST IN THE GAME PERIOD... I'VE KNOWN KOOL KEITH FOR OVER 30 YEARS FROM DAY ONE...SOUTH BRONX ALL DAY...
Being first don't mean shit, I got a comment: Kool Keith is one of the most innovative to do it, his whole lyrical content was other worldly
Kool Keith a straight up legend, whoever disagree i will fight u
LMAO
His beat selection was absolutely other worldly too.
@RustyMetalFingerz fuck off
DOOM is good, but he's no Kool Keith. Keith has demonstrated a wider vocabulary and he probably could rhyme like DOOM if he wanted to, but he's more interested in trying different styles and pushing boundaries.
When I found Keith's album Black Elvis... Rap was never the same for me again.
Facts
I met Kool Keith several times over the years. He signed about 11 cd covers for me, from my Ultra cds to Octagon to Doom to Spankmaster. Cool dude.
Thats a blessing i got all of his shit but never got to meet him
I meet dude at a gentlemen's club. How ironic😅
That's dope dope, cherish that
The only dude that you'll ever hear call Andre 3K "the other guy"

90% of all rappers sound the same , rap about the same stuff and rap over the same sounding beats. You were born an original don't die a copy.

"... this Kool Keith guy..."
You should listen to
*this kool keith guy* more often. . He's got a cool

Not even close, Ultramagetic MC's in the 80's and Keith had solo albums in the 90's well before Dr. DOOOM
When you look at the history of rap and see how unbelievably easy it is for huge, huge rappers to slide into obscurity almost over night and then you relate that to what Keith has done and for how long he has done it? I don't think anyone can argue that he is the greatest of all-time.
