    The "2001" year shown for a handful of seconds is obviously obviously a typo as everyone can see. Also, the side-build is missing 2x trans-red tiles that go on the gray studs -- inconsequential but I'm pointing it out to hopefully prevent most comments from ignoring everything else!
    I also realize this video is too long for such a small set, but during editing I didn't find much I really wanted to cut out. I just had a lot I wanted to say about this set, so I did. I will always spend however much time exploring a set as feels comfortable & natural to me at the time.

      There were only 2 sets so far that they included a Jango fett. The 2002 Jango slave 1 and the 2013 corporate alliance tank droid. This figure is in desperate need of an upgrade (though both versions are nice)

    • @josephtao
      @josephtao 3 года назад +6

  • @jeebus2313

    It irritates me that they didn't recolor Boba's helmet to match his armor so his body printing is that darker green as it should be but the helmet is mismatched and still using the older color.

    • @mpeters4731
      @mpeters4731 3 года назад +24

      Maybe they only got concept art from Disney or images from when he hadn't repainted it yet, and they were just told that he would. If he had repainted his armor to what it would have looked like new this is what you'd get, his helmet was always a lighter color green than his chest plates, but with the repaint in the show they changed it to the same shade of green.

  • @capojawa6802
    @capojawa6802 3 года назад +79

    I really hope that they keep making smaller models. Its ok if they make bigger models if they are minifigure scale, but if they still not are minifigure scale there is just no reason to make things bigger, especially if they provide the same amount of functions and playability. Thanks for a nice review and thanks to lego who just saved my wallet.

  • @SuperSecretBricks

    This set looks oh so good. I immediately got it on my wishlist as soon as it got announced. There have been some reviews out there that were saying it wasn't great, or that the cloud city one was better, or that it was too small, to toyish, that the stand wasn't stable enough... So I got worried.
    But thanks to your review I know that it will be perfectly fine for me. I never had a Boba Fett Starship, and I'm trying to get the new wave of smaller Star Wars ships, so this looks like the perfect opportunity to finally get one. The details you point out make me think this will be just right for me (in terms of shape, or in the effort of making things smaller yet more detailed, or even the gribbeling on the back side). I was also concerned about how Boba Fett would sit in the cockpit, but now I can see there are two positions, which is great.
    To be honest I don't care much about the "gravity induced stabilisers thingy" 😁 . I know this is one of the stapples feature of this series of ship, and that it inspired many sets (like in Galaxy Squad and whatnot). I just don't really mind having to orient things manually (similarly, I'm perfectly happy with ratcheted joints for the wings of an x-wing, I don't necessarily need them to open simultaneously), but that's just me!
    I kinda expected stuff to be a bit brittle, for example the bottom canons, but I'm shocked to learn that they're actually quite sturdy. Well done to the designer! the antenna/proturing bits using are the first things I lose because they get knocked out 😬. So I'm glad to see that won't be the case here!
    The inclusion of a handle is a good surprise, it doens't feel necessary given the scale of the ship, but I'm sure it adds a lot of manoeuvrability.
    I think the cart / stand is a genius idea. It doesn't have to be super stable. This can be definitely fixed. But imagine having this kind of side build in the future. That would be neat.
    Thanks for the long review, I feel this set specifically needed it. Maybe "scale down/have more details" also applies to reviews 😃

    @nosir5596 3 года назад +4

    The little vehicle functioning as a stand is really genius to be honest. Looking at the ship and the handle I was thinking about how to build a stand to hold it, not realizing the little cart would do the job. Super cool. Might need to pick this up to put next to my UCS Slave I.

    Very cool little set. Although I already have the 20th Anniversary version of the Slave 1 and prefer it over the new set, the smaller 2021 Slave 1 is still neat and looks like it'd make a good desk display. I'll be getting it just for that reason to have on my desk at work without it being too big or intrusive if it was the same size as the 20th Anniversary set.

    Another thing I don't think people take into account when judging a set's value? Shelf space. I can only display so many sets at a time, so sometimes I PREFER sets being smaller to save on shelf space. If the details and build are good, and it isn't super expensive, I'll gladly "settle" for this Slave I because the others are TOO BIG. I can't justify setting aside the amount of room they take up that could be used to display, say, my favorite Chima, Bionicle, or Monkie Kid sets.

    When compared to the anniversary Slave 1, I actually like the visual look of the $50 set more.... It just has more angles and interesting geometry. I also like the long green stripe going down most of the front face. The anniversary set looks like its supposed to be made of mossy rock with all that random grey/green.

    After prices for single small Star Wars ships/fighters reached the 100 Euro/USD mark in recent years it is great to see cheaper sets making a return. Seems like a good set to me, does everything you want from a Slave One set, just at a smaller but still quite detailed scale.

    I got this set the other day, and I have to say it feels *amazing* in your hand! The shaping honestly feels like a watershed moment for Lego design. My only two (small) complaints is I wish there was somewhere to store a blaster. I'm honestly not sure how they would have done this because the space is already used extremely effectively. Additionally, a new cockpit mold would have been nice, if not just to fill some of the gaps along the side panels.
    Very happy with this set!

I don't know, a child woke up, I'm 45 years old, and decided on this Bob Fett's Slave One and Star Wars TIE Bomber, got both with shipping for €100, decided on Slave One today, took me 3 hours, ha ha ha.. but enjoyed it in the making, haven't touched a lego in over 30 years, a lot the same thing, but you really cheered me up like a human being, I can't wait for the second one tomorrow, and I'm already thinking as soon as there is a discount on AT-TE or Justifier, who knows how many of them I'll buy for fun, thank you very much. This is one of the most impressive sets I've bought, being a (re)new collector of Lego with a limited budget. I'm amazed at how much detail and, uh, 'roundness' they stuffed into such a scaled-down version; the wing and wing assembly turned out really well. I imagine the larger versions of this may be more brag-worthy as a display piece, but at the lower price point (I got mine off Amazon for $40), I consider mine well bought.
    P.S. The fact that you actually pay for your sets lends additional credibility to your reviews and purchase suggestions. I also understand if you eventually start getting free stuff from Lego. 😊 Your work here is worthy of their attention.

    I prefer the smaller sets not just because of the price but I don't always want to spend a ton of time building it. I find that the smaller sets can be more complex because it is harder to get the shaping right at a smeller scale.

    The Slave-1 ship from Star Wars is one of those ships that Lego has made many times in the past (I even had the very first one they made in 2000!), but even if it seems smaller than most, it looks very acceptable and more importantly, affordable! 50$ is not a bad price for it, I'm sure fans will be more likely to get this set than the bigger version, very cool review, Jang!

    I love the side build, and the little handle on the Slave 1 (sry *Boba Fett's Starship*) is a nice addition even tho the ship is small so the inclusion of a handle is a bit odd/different. It is very good when trying to display the ship in a moc or some kind of lego build without using clear pieces. For example you can have Boba Fett tailing the Millennium Falcon to Bespin through trash behind the Star Destroyer by extending the handle into the "trash balls" which really fits well, and seems like a cool idea. If I don't do something like that I might just end up sticking a trans blue minifigure heads or a light gray plan minifigure head to act as a seismic charge which would fall out when opening the handle.

    I bought and like this set, I do find myself missing some of the features of the older ones (2006) such as more interior space and storage

    I really enjoyed building this, but it was also extremely sturdy and looks great. It's a great design.

    If you're gonna keep making smaller, cooler versions of classic ships, then how about a new TIE Bomber?

    Great review! I literally just ordered it based on your video. I don’t collect much Lego, only what takes my fancy from time to time. This is a nice piece for the price!

    I am probably the only one who would prefer the smaller one. The reason is because I am all about some sense of scale. By making this ship the new smaller size, it becomes more fitting for the next size up ships to be reasonably bigger without being too big. The only negative I would say is they should try to make more cockpit or storage space on ships this size. Just hollow it out a bit more so that even though the ship looks small, it can carry a bit. This ship should hold 2 mini figs.

    Great review! I really hope to get the biggest Slave One someday.. I always want interior space for Mini-Figures to live in, in ships that are the flying "homes" of their pilots/owners. Also, why is Lego not calling this Slave One?

    • @JANGsLEGOreviews

      Disney made the decision, not LEGO. They seem to no longer want to sell toys to children with the word "slave" on the box.

      @@JANGsLEGOreviews Ok. I find that "Dis-cision" odd, but we live in a new world of nomenclature I guess.

      @@johnnations5932 I mean, this "world" has long considered slavery to be a topic unsuitable for children.
      Sure there's context for why the ship is named that, but vanishingly few children will know that context so this is kind of the obvious solution in terms of marketing

    I really love this set. It’s just so perfect for displaying and has some cool play features. It’s a really nice set, I don’t mind much of the boba fett color, could’ve definitely been better but eh. But other than that it’s a 9.5/10!

    I'm thinking of picking this up. I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but I really love this ship and this is a very nice rendition without being too expensive for someone like me who isn't really collecting Star Wars sets.

    It’s surprisingly good, just small. I wish I didn’t miss out on the 20th anniversary version, that’s my favourite size.

    If you think 50 USD for it is a little sharp here in Canada it retails for 70 CAD, it's getting harder to pull a trigger on some of these sets.

      I live in the Netherlands, in Germany sets are a bit cheaper than here, so my method is that I order thing from Amazon Germany to the Netherlands. I think this could work in your case too, order from Amazon America and deliver it to Canada?

    I like this set, for the same reason I liked the 2021 scaled down versions of the X-Wing and Imperial TIE Fighter. A fair amount smaller for sure but still decently detailed and SIGNIFICANTLY more affordable compared to the previous larger versions, especially the previous Slave I models.
    Models like these have been well overdue as like you said, not everyone can afford to drop well over $100 or £100 on a single Lego set, something I notice from the comments people tend to not understand and they miss the point of models like this. And not everyone has a ton of space for super sized UCS or similarly sized sets. I looked back at the last TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Slave 1, and the total cost of those would've been £270 and almost $300; the total cost of the downscaled versions from this year is a more reasonable £125/$140. Although the larger versions have had sizeable discounts when they were available, while discounts is very minimal for the downscaled versions so far.
    It's really simple and here's how I put it, if you don't like this and already have the previous larger versions, just stick with those and move on. If you've wanted a Slave I but never wanted to spend so much on the larger ones or never had the space for them and you're ok with the reduction in size and details, this 2021 version is a great alternative.

    The only thing the 20th anniversary set has over this one is the canopy. Otherwise, the overall look is comparable and the price is nice. Great review.

    i really love this set, i love the new Boba design (which is mainly thanks to the show but lego did a good job recreating it) and as someone who loves the Slave 1 design but could never afford any of the sets, I'm so happy I was able to get this one

    This feels like something I would rather get my young cousin/nephew and feel confident they'd have fun playing with it; whooshing it about their parent's house.
