Sorry to be a geek, sorry but do you know if this is a fan bootleg or a personal recording just for the band? I know it's nothing but I love silly details like that 😁🙌✌️
@@glenndouglas8822 It is a fan / bootlegger recording. Shot on a camcorder with the full intentions of selling copies, not usual in 1985, as there were already many others doing the same in the UK and other countries. Just pick up old mid 80s editions of NME, Sounds, Record Collector etc and look at the small ads in the back pages, you will see people selling copies of videos like this.
I’m just damn grateful they came to Australia in 1981. Saw 2 shows. In retrospect I wish I’d gone to every show at least in my city, but that was a bit hard to pull off at 14
“ Lips like Sugar “ is still one of my favorites from them. Timeless classic , from a bygone era that was just epic to live through . Those of us who are of age where we lived this time-frame with bands like Echo , The Cult , The Clash & countless others & got to see these guys play live enjoyed times the likes we probably will never see again.
Totally agree! There's so many, you simply can't name them all, but one springs to mind. The Cure. lips Like Sugar, sugar kisses..... OK, Itunes here I come!
Brilliant band, thanks for posting. I first went to Glastonbury the following year 86. Shame the festival has become what it is now. Eavis has been taken by the monarchy.
Thank you for this. I was 16 when I went to Glastonbury 85. Spent the weekend in the pouring rain and mud and gave up. Went home before Bunnymen played despite them being my reason for attending. So now I’ve finally seen the show 39 years later. Thanks again
I was there, down near the front to the left of centre. That was before the barrier, so you could actually go right up to the stage. A good peformance, but my favourite time watching the Bunnymen was in 1985 at the Brixton Academy.
A friend won free tickets on the radio in NYC. He gave his name and was told to pick up the tickets at the box office. He called me and asked if I wanted to go and I jumped at the chance. He said he'd pick me up in his car and drive us into the city (We lived in the NYC suburbs). As he was leaving his house he got a phone call. It was the DJ saying the gig was cancelled. If my friend missed that call, we would have driven all the way into the city, only to be told at the box office the show was cancelled.
I was at this! Fantastic to see again. Cant thank you enough for uploading this one. This was the first Glastonbury that I ever went to. Nearly 40 years ago - omg..
I was there. It had rained all day and maybe all the day before it just about stopped when they came on. There was a mistyness in the damp air that suited them perfectly. Everyone was relieved at the rain stopping. It’s impossible to describe but the atmosphere was magical and they were perfect for it. I think McCulloch later said they weren’t good but that’s not how it felt to us in the audience.
thanks for this.... this was the first glasto i'd been to.. went totally unprepared (no tent or change of clothing, nothing)... we got absolutely soaked to the bone, totally miserable 2 days, so we left early and missed the bunnymen.. went the following year with change of clothes, wet gear, brolly, wellies, tent, food, weed, money etc.... lol
I enjoyed reading your comment. Brought back memories. It was a dismal weekend of weather. We blagged our way passed the gate ticket guy. Just let us in. We’d camped our little tent outside the site and upon returning on Saturday night and found it collapsed flat in a pool of water. Climbing into binliners inside sodden sleeping bags with our food floating around us. Just miserable. Went home Sunday morning and missed the show.
Nice one....was at this. The weather had been totally dismal all weekend and continued to be. They were good though...so was Ian Dury and the Blockheads but people threw mud at them and they left the stage. The only Glastonbury i went to...it was under 20 quid a ticket and me and my friends complained about the high price 😅
What a show! Thanks for the times and titles and for posting. They did some great covers as well ("She's Cracked" - The Modern Lovers, "Friction" - Television, "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" - Bob Dylan probably via Them, "Paint It Black" - The Rolling Stones, and "The End" & "Soul Kitchen" by The Doors). I think I heard a smattering of "Light My Fire" in one o the songs as well, which goes to show you why Echo were such a good choice to record "People Are Strange" for "The Lost Boys" OST.
One of my all time favorite bands. Remember seeing them a few times, with his fur coat and smoking like a chimney! Such a good era for amazing bands and great music. ZIMBO! i remember the year that Windy fella headlined, on the Friday (2020??), then on the Sunday night a 2hr set by the amazing CURE! Which beat anything else hands down
The Bunnymen at their peak IMHO. Saw them a year or two before this in a tiny club in Dublin (McGonagle's) that held only a couple of hundred people. To this day (40 years later) one of the greatest gigs I've ever been at. Mac never took his coat off the whole night. Cool as fuck, long before the Inspiral Carpets.
This was my second Glastonbury and it absolutely hammered down with rain all weekend. I'm sure that one of the bleached blond heads bobbing about near the front is me.
‘Heaven up Here’ was the first post-punk vinyl record I ever bought. U2 ‘Boy’ Joy Division ‘Closer’ & Mission of Burma came after. E&Bunnymen “Heads Will Roll” epitomizes post-punk to me.
If U2 hadn't sacrificed to Moloch and gotten their daemonic pact with Satan Echo and the Bunnymen could have been something even better than U2 which they will always be in my mind.
To my lasting regret I only saw them twice in the 80's (Brixton Academy and Wembley) but those were two of the best gigs I ever saw - Mac could indeed be "that C#nt" but by God they could back up his mouth both on vinyl and live. RIP Pete.
Seen the chameleons there, them and the bunnymen were probably two of the best bands live I’d ever seen, the venue was brilliant as well……sadly it’s some continental supermarket now 😡
@@alastairwhitehead2262 You might know, this but there were loads of gigs video recorded covertly at the International, for some gigs there were occasionally two camera men recording side by side or on opposite sides of the venue. you were very lucky to have been there.
@@ScottishTeeVee thanks I never knew that……would love to see those shows again. I had a bootleg cassette of the bunnymen gig and the covers set is actually an audio recording on you tube.
Will Sergeant has a signature sparse, chiming, motif style of guitar playing. That said, when he's not playing, can anyone hear Macul's rhythm guitar? I can't. If you can, can you point to a time? Thx.
thanks for posting came down on the bus from aberdeen to watch this remember the trench foot and the locals mockery of the plastic bags round my feet few short years later steaming made its appearance £16 for the weekend
A truly gr8 band shud have bin much bigger and glastonbury is just full of people jumping on the bandwagon and ay got a clue bout music just a fashion to go there

from 83 to 85 the best band in the whole world
The sound of a band at the top of their game.
The best live band around at that time. I saw them more than a few times but should have seen them more, those days can never be repeated
I’m just damn grateful they came to Australia in 1981. Saw 2 shows. In retrospect I wish I’d gone to every show at least in my city, but that was a bit hard to pull off at 14
Only saw them live once at Guildford. They were brilliant!

Same same saw Bunnymen and The Cult in this era 👍🍺 is this Stephen Miller from Barrow in Furness 🤷♂️
RIP the lovely Pete De Freitas who referred to McCulloch as 'that c***' around the time. This was only a few years before his untimely passing.
I got to see them around this time, with New Order and Jean Love Jezebel - Pgh, PA
It was a good show
Wow ..the sound and mix is insainly good

Same.
I wasn’t there, but I will be at the House of Blues Dallas on April 8 to see Ian and Will one more time. Thanks for the memories!
Word; we'll be at the 26 May show in Chicago 💜
Covering two of my fav songs in the world, ahhhh!

This is the REAL DEAL.
Great sound quality.
Loved then never saw then, saw REM 9 times cure once in 89 in Paris … damn !
ANYONE WHO KNOWS OUR BAND , KNOW WE ADORE THIS BAND.
I was there, brilliant weekend, pissed it down but mushrooms saw us through ❤
What a find! I was there, before a tour of Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Italy following which I moved to London. Subscribed. Big Time THANKS!
Thanks for watching, commenting and Subscribing 🙂
Epic show! Wish I would’ve been old enough to be there.
Excellent!
Saw them at the Inland Invasion around 2002, really great. This is such a good show, well recorded. Thanks for uploading
Ive had the bootleg vinyl of this for years... now I can put the two and two together!!
This is great! I've got a bootleg LP with the cover songs. Nice to also see the performance after almost 40 years 👍
This is totally the end! One of my favourite bands from the 80s! Thank you very much 😉👍! Have something to listen to over the weekend!
Brilliant band. Love them - thank you for this.
When it was nice and sunny and when I had some money, we'd go and see Echo & The Bunny
men.
All aboard my time machine next stop 1985! Who’s in?
Do we stay old?😂

Joel Schumaker was a big Bunnymen fan
Light My Fire was during Crocs
Love Echo and the Bunnymen! This video is pretty damn good - cheers (again) Steve!
A great period for the band. Saw them a couple of times mid eighties and they were also my route into The Doors from their covers seen here
An excellent time capsule--their best work was still yet to come. Thanks for sharing. 💀

I was at the McGonagles gig and I was at this gig too in 85
The McGonagles gig was in 1981
Great upload.
So we've got 2 songs in 1985 that would end up on the '87 self-titled record!
I like the versions here more than the ones on the album.
And better versions as well!
wow thanks
Great stuff. Long coats are due a come back!
I want one!
Fuck, this is SO GREAT
This was my second Glastonbury and it absolutely hammered down with rain all weekend. I'm sure that one of the bleached blond heads bobbing about near the front is me.
My cousin was a rodie for them back in the day, he got hooked up with them in Dublin , long story , anyway said they were a sound bunch of Lads
Oh thank you! It's so great to see Friction live.
thanks for that great show, i've got that concert in double vinyl and it's a nice surprice to see that on video now
THANK YOU!
