- Okay so we're going to complete the mages guild questline, which somehow uses the coolest Elder Scrolls villain in the most anti climatic and dumbest way possible.

Nothing beats Arch-mage Traven asking the player if they've heard that Arch-mage Traven has banned Necromancy haha
"I've not always been happy with the standards of conduct in the Mages Guild, but Hannibal Traven's reforms are quite encouraging." - Hannibal Traven
He was VERY proud of that ban.
@@lf2208 *insert Obama giving Obama a medal meme*
"Why I'm so great" - by Archdale Traven
He is just being an asshole. (That was me you know. I have that power)
Traven was like "Oh wait, you're the main character? The main character has to become the leader of every guild? Let me just kill myself real quick"
Lmao, good one
Yeah, this part is presented rather strangely you are right! But the intention was following:
Traven explains that Mannimarco intended the Colossal Black Soul Gem for Traven's own soul and that you will grant his wish; by carrying the filled soul gem, you will be immune to Mannimarco's attempts to turn you into a Worm Thrall. Traven then promotes you to Arch-Mage - leader of the Mages Guild - and commits suicide, soul trapping himself into the Colossal Black Soul Gem.
This is taken from the uesp.net

I liked the mage guild and arcane university. Makes me feel more like a student than the college of winterhold (with its 3 students)
same
Couldn’t agree more
i got the same exact feeling when i did it and i even invented a story on it
What a pathetic quest line the college of winterhold was, then again all of Skyrim’s quest lines are trash
Also, the fact that you immediately become the Archmage in Skyrim without any hard work, is laughable. At least you fighting against the King of Worms in Oblivion. In Skyrim, you fight a single Thalmor scrub as the last boss, and not even fighting the Magnus group, which could be much better.
It's a pretty cool quest line up until you kill some hobo posing as the most powerful necromancer in history
Lmao
Thats why the extention exists where mannimarco is like a undead skeleton
The end of this questline really is odd and anticlimactic. The first time I beat it I ran up to Mannimarco and killed him before realizing who he even was - one of the lamest manifestations of a TES villain ever really
The rest of the questline seems like so much buildup. Mannimarco definitely should have been a much tougher boss, fuck it make him a lich and give him dozens of risen dead minions. He's the KING of worms for Pete's sake 😂
He's not even the actual Mannimarco either :c
@@randybobandy4000 The actual Mannimarco is exactly that. And also a god. See ES:II Daggerfall. Point being, that was some asshole using the name and title of the god of necromancy who became the fucking moon.
@@MeepChangeling There's a theory that this is a version of Manni who never ascended and stayed on Nirn because of the Warp in the West.
This guy is still powerful enough based on statements and Traven sacrificing himself to just be some random imposter.
@Ngo Duc Minh I thought it was cannon that after Daggerfall, Mannimarco split into the Necromancer's Moon and a "normal" corporeal form?
50 minutes of the cantina, what a fucking blessing from the nine

the arcane university was so cool because you could even take part to lessons, talk with other students, enchanting weapons and making your own spells as a reward for your work.Once i got kicked for stealing and the quest to return was so frustrating because i couldn't find the right flower as it should be since it's a punishment
Oh my god the Redwort Flower will haunt my dreams for years to come, eventually found 2 or 3 growing at a time in the gardens at the Priory of the Nine, was a lifesaver!
I think the word you were looking for was "punishment".
@@superscatboy yes sorry i'm not english i usually confuse
Every student brushes you away with the same generic line and lessons don’t exist. Try vanilla oblivion some time
@@smtandearthboundsuck8400 i had no mods installed also why are you replying after 1 year
funny thing that Arch-Mage Traven did not convey the reason why he killed him self, seems like a crucial plot point, well he killed him self to fill the colossal black soul gem so that you wouldn't be soul trapped by mannimarco, so in a way you have him with you on the quest and when u want to have him with you.
there is actually a mod that makes the king of worms a lot tougher and his loot a lot better.
yeah i saw wilburgurs video on that before this. i really thought that cantina was trolling me for the last part of the video.
Nothing beats an Oblivion character's inane smiling while they hear "Grave News"
I loved to kill one mage in the universety, so the others would scream, "Help, someone's been murdered!", all of them in synchrony.
You being in the middle of talking about having ADHD and then getting distracted mid-sentence by the floor is the most ADHD thing I've ever witnessed

It's canon that around the time of 3E433 everyone was ripped.

this is a microcosm of my lived experience and i don't even think you meant to do it. absolutely incredible.
BY AZURA BY AZURA BY AZURA!!! ITS A 48 MINUTE CANTINA VIDEO!!🙏🏽
What I love about quests from Oblivion and before it were that when you got a new title you really feel like you earned it. In Skyrim they dish out titles like it’s nothing special.
Yes, this is the main reason I prefer Oblivion and Morrowind to Skyrim. Especially Morrowind makes you struggle hard before you can make it in any guild or house, and actual skill requirements; so non mages can't make it very far in the mages guild.
Unpopular opinion but the Mages Guild questline might be one of my favorite questlines in the game. I like the fact that you can complete a lot of the recommendations in different ways with magic - like with the Bruma quest if you knew how to cast those Detect Life and Dispel spells you can just cast those to find J'skar and remove that invisibility on him yourself or for that Bravil quest you can cast those Charm spells on Arenim's wife to find out where he hid Ardaline's staff and use Open Lock spells to steal it - might be minor details but I love the fact that actually being a mage opens up more options to you.
Holy shit I never thought to use dispel on J'skar. That's amazing.
Yeah, mages guild shortcuts those are, and you don't even need detect life for the khajiit, you can just look around and activate the guy.
Enter a frickin painting quest is still better though! 😂
That's actually how I completed the Bravil quest lol, I maxed Arenim's disposition and he wouldn't give it to me.
That's not a horker, that's my wife
that tickled me, not gonna lie
I love how Necromancy is illegal but you can summon undead as much as you want without any consequences.
that's because you're summoning skeletons from the soul cairn, you aren't doing necromancy
Necromancy is legal but Mages Guild has banned it
@Rose's Zen Garden conjuration =\= necromancy. And necromancy is not illegal, unless you guild mage. You can practice necromancy if you outside of mages guild and it's not against law. However Traven did right thing to ban it - Mages Guild was created TO FIGHT NECROMANCY AND MANNIMARCO and it makes 0 sense to allow guild mages to practice it.
@Rose's Zen Garden I mean, technically, yeah. If someone manufactures meth, and you steal it from them, you're not a meth producer, you're a thief. If you summon a being from another dimension, you're a conjurer, no matter who made the thing or how
I wish to practise Necromancy in the game but Bethesda has banned it
"... in the year oblivion crisis 3 era 433 ,Mannimarco , king of worms ,the first enemy of the empire, was killed by a random dude ... "
- pocket guide of the empire probably
Remember that dude that almost destroyed Tamriel? He got punched in the head by some random prick and died.
It's ironic that at the time, the mages guild questline was often ridiculed for it's shortcomings and quest designs - it basically represented one of the highest mage society as being lead by completely naive ignorants, plus the fact unlike Morrowind you could become archmage with jackshit magic knowledge.
But after Skyrim's total joke of Winterhold College, Oblivion's Arcane University actually seems competent and offering an interesting and long questline.
If anything Skyrim shouldn’t have made you archmage but rather something like an advisor who has to work their way up to Master Wizard after doing the master spell-quests for every school of magic & then staying as Master Wizard without the option to become Arch-Mage.
I feel like they tried to do what they did in Morrowind again but a lot worse (having the Archmage be incompetent). I think in Morrowind it was interesting because the other members talked about it and had differing opinions, and it's funny how he gives you a seemingly impossible quest (that makes him sound dumb) that I think you can actually do over time. In Oblivion it just seems like they were sloppier and less interested in giving the different guild members character.
I know you’re not into doing these anymore but all these old oblivion playlists are gold. I rewatch them every time I play oblivion again.
Its not simply the altar that transforms soul gems black. It's the specific date when the Necromancer's Moon blocks the light of Arkay thus allowing the transformation.
And said moon is the heavenly body of Mannimarco which was created by his apeothosis during the dragon break in the events of TES2 Daggerfall.
Last time i was this early, you were still able to find a good sweet roll, in this skeever hole of city
You can here them telling the voice actor his lines around 43:50 when mannimarco is saying "Perhaps we shall chat for a while "
I think that was just an echo from Cantina’s mic.
It’s hilarious how they build some of these villains up to be these badas opponents, but when you face them, you hit them over the head with a stick and….. dead already?
The name of the legendary hero who saved Tamriel from the tyranny of the King of Worms?
Blueberry Ice-cream Man
You know something is off when the cantina is uploading more than all of your other subbed channels.
when he curses he sounds like a kid who curses with his friends just bc his mom isnt around
Yes!!! Finally episode 2!! Mason you are the man! Screwing lockdown blues every Thursday!!!
Facts we need some more playthroughs
I'd love to see Mason do Oblivion playthroughs again. The first ones were excellent and Mason's comedy has improved since then so it would be even better.
The Oblivion mages guild questline is so much better than Skyrim college. You actually feel accomplished when you get into the Arcane University, instead of shooting one fireball and being let into the College.
I think it’s implied that the arch mage killed himself to fill the colossal black soul gem.
But he didn’t need to. His own pride and hatred of necromancy compelled him to. Rather than off himself he could’ve used and prisoner or a necromancer for the sake of irony.
@@martinhill9561 however he’s got very high responsibility, meaning he wouldn’t do that. Also lets remember that this is Bethesda from 2006, and they needed a way to let the player become Arch-mage XD

Btw, yeah. You weren't supposed to KILL the vampire hunters hahahah you had to talk to the dudes after killing the vampires.
Im gonna use "You son of a skeever!" as an insult from now on
I'd just like to say that yes, this was a super anticlimactic fight and the people who recommended the Mannimarco Revisited mod are definitely right. But lore-wise, this isn't "Mannimarco" as the guild remembers him. The original Mannimarco used the Warp in the West to ascend to godhood, essentially, becoming the Revenant Moon himself. I like to this this "Mannimarco" is just his mortal body that he left behind. But maybe that's just me.
I guess you could say there were manymarcos
traven only killed himself to fill the black soul gem you needed to deafeat the king of worms
I hope you're gonna do a Fighters Guild questline walkthrough next! Really looking forward to it! It's gonna be interesting.
I subbed to this channel for structured, edited videos like top 10 videos, breakdowns and trivia and such not lengthy gameplay videos!
But I ain't mad these are still a good watch. More please.
Seeing this makes me want to play Oblivion again. Such an amazing game! Your commentary was great too!
Well my Elder Scrolls lore is rusty but the Daggerfall Mannimarco became a moon during the dragon break event iirc
He did and he didn't. It's a time paradox: he both succeeded and failed, and the failed version went on to die during the events of Oblivion.
I’m so happy that I get to watch your videos every week man!
Wes Johnson one of the best voice actors! I will play Oblivion again.
I love when I see a long cantina upload, you made my day dude! Thanks and take care
Absolutely Love your Enthusiasm and Sense of Humor while playing through the Mage's Guild in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. Keep Up the Awesome Work!!
I honestly like the beginning quest of the arcane university
Getting specific wood to create your own staff is pretty cool and also the fact that you get to choose what your staff does
Traven killed himself to fill the soul gem so you wouldn't be corruptable by Manni.
One thing I dont understand is that Raminus Polus was literally sleeping when the "Archmage" was out there fighting through a whole lair of necromancers and the King of Worms himself... it's so ridiculous in Elder Scrolls that for the final mission of these grand quest lines youre literlaly alone - these should epic battles with half of the Arcane University staff at the side of the Archmage protecting him and Polus as Archmages right handy man should assist him and cover him.
I always felt really disappointed with the mages guild quest in oblivion. its just so monotonous to actually get into the collage and then you dont actually learn anything. You just become the hero again. Personally, I'd like it if I could just be a student at the collage for a while. You know, like attend class and be taught some spells, interact with students and teachers maybe take a test or something. Do some research. and then, like halfway through, maybe like after a big test where you get promoted, thats when you hit the whole necromancer quest line thing. I hope they add something like that into skyblivion
“Ask a commoner.” -Mannimarco, 3E 433

Heck! You made my day! Always enjoying your vids. (this half a movie you uploaded :)
Hey Cantina, did you know there's a mod that makes Mannimarco look closer to how he was in Daggerfall, and makes him into a better final boss to the Mage's guild quesline?
It's called "Mannimarco Revisited".
Here's a link to a video showing the changed Mannimarco: ruclips.net/video/rGUoRHqBgbo/видео.html
This one is a lot better. I've kinda was expecting mannimarco to be cool - than appears commonhigh_elf.zip as him...
i love let's player's inventory. never banked anything they acquired, just carried everything in the backpack throughout the whole journey.
You never know when you'll need all that useless enchanted jewellery ;)
Our lad Cantina has uploaded! I love Thursdays.

Why does he look so happy? He looks genuinely happy there, I wonder why. Perhaps he became close to that other mage lady there; or has drunk a dubious potion.
Epic timing with the insult 5:20
The arch mage killed himself in order to fill the soul gem that protects you 😉
Best magic faction questline in the most recent 3 mainline games. Morrowind's is too slow and bureaucratic and Skyrim's is too short and simple, Oblivion is the perfect Goldilocks zone between the two. (can't speak on the first 2, haven't played them, but I assume that they're even slower than Morrowind).
The bureaucracy is what I love about morrowind 😂, it just seems more realistic to me. I don't like being sent to buy bowls and books for people though 😂. The Oblivion mages guild is definitely more engaging than morrowind lol
I'd love to see you do some custom spellcrafting shenanigans now that you have access to it :]
I reccomend paralysis and invisibility on touch, it's a fun one.
I like invisibility on self plus any kind of damage on touch. It somewhat breaks combat lol
@@superscatboy Oh yeah any kind of custom spellcrafting is just plain broken lol
My favorite is to create a touch spell that paralyzes the target and makes them invisible, it effectively "banishes" them from the game, and cast it on the adoring fan over and over >:]
@@Alterhumanity Lol "By Azura by Azura..." *begone, scrub!*
I hope that TES VI is actually able to pull of the Mage’s Guild quest line well. I remember spending hours trying to get my recommendations from every guild hall, imagining a place created just for my character to learn high-level spells and experience a college-like role playing environment. Instead, I was disappointed to find there was no real school aspect, and I was instead supposed to do everyone else’s work, put myself in harm’s way against necromancers, and eventually make my way to the top with minimal effort put in. It’s better than Skyrim’s College of Winterhold for sure, but at least Skyrim had the sliver of campus life at the beginning.
Heck yeah! another cantina video!
Man I found your channel a couple weeks ago and I'm so glad. I'm pretty much snowed in right now, and I've been going through Skyrim on my new (Special Edition) main with your Lets Plays going on my laptop. Been rewatching some stuff already, but just going through your Morrowind and Oblivion playlists. I was actually excitedly waiting for you to post today, something I don't think I've ever really done on RUclips, and this longer video is like it was made perfectly for me.
Just wanna say that you're a consistently entertaining person to watch/hear go through these classic games I haven't played in a while. Really puts me in the Elder Scrolls spirit. Do you ever stream these playthroughs while you're doing them? I'd be down for some uncut Cantina action!
Your vids pair with playing the games like a fine skooma with cheese. Thank you for putting in the effort and doing what you do.
P.S. I wonder every time I see it-what did that blue milk taste like/what was it made of?
I love your videos!
I lost it at the battle mage immediately dying to the trap.

"You impossible fool" is a line I quote a hell of a lot.
The end of this questline was more disappointing then the lack of levitation spells in Oblivion.
