    I still remember watching these while learning 4U and being so curious about what kind of person GH was. These games were so mysterious at their heart, learning this stuff was like unlocking some secret magic for me. Thanks for making these things back then, and thanks for the podcasts and just being an awesome person today!

    I was instantly hooked on the Charge Axe when it was first revealed, and I managed to beat Gore Magara on the NA demo that was released yesterday with it, and yet I didn't know most of what was shown in this video. Great information, you just made me fall in love with the CA even more!

    • @Jolls981
      @Jolls981 9 лет назад

      Try and beat Goa with friends on the demo, it;s much harder lol. Although, it always seems to be my friends who die because they're just attracted to his super explosions lol

    • @SkellionPowalskiz
      @SkellionPowalskiz 9 лет назад

      I tried beating Goa with a friend that wasn't really a big MH fan and he whupped us pretty hard.
      Of course, I think we were really unlucky, as he went berserk literally three minutes into the fight, whereas he only went berserk twice when I fought him solo, and they were at least ten and fifteen minutes into the fight when I had worked him over a bit.
      I think the game only scales the monster health to match four players when in multiplayer, because it took us forever to even kill a King Jaggi with two people, and he's literally worthless.

    • @cimoa
      @cimoa 9 лет назад +1

      when gore magala goes into feral mode, you have to constantly hit his head to make him go bak to normal, i play with my friends, and he goes into feral mode back to normal mode less than a minute... because everyone focusing on his head

    • @SkellionPowalskiz
      @SkellionPowalskiz 9 лет назад

      I've actually learned how to use all the weapons a lot better now, and I've beaten him with every one without dying except for the gunlance.
      I didn't know you could hold on to monsters with the R button, so I was constantly getting thrown off.
      That made all the difference, as when he went feral I just couldn't get an opening no matter what weapon I used. I'm not even a Gunner and I was able to solo him with all three ranged weapons.
      I've seen people talk about beating him in the demo on Local Play mode solo though, and that sounds like torture. I'm content fighting him with solo health.

      SkellionPowalskiz
      yeah, some people are extremist and wanted to complete it alone to test out their skills, me too have done that, its good to see how good you are with some weapons, so far, the only one i succeed are soloing with bow and Glaive in the demo

    Is it me or does it seem like this thing will absolutely DOMINATE this game?
    Huge damage
    Huge stun
    Great blocking
    Parries (?!)
    Decent mobility
    Fast and slow attack speed
    Seriously, what CAN'T this thing do?
    It does seem like it will take very good awareness and skill to keep track of all of the systems in a fight but this thing is a Swiss army knife of death.
    I LOVE IT

    • @supershoo4518
      @supershoo4518 9 лет назад

      blocking is actually not that great, and not to mention slow attack animations (for a good majority of attacks) mean you are a very easy target.

    • @NoNameC68
      @NoNameC68 9 лет назад

      DrShoe Canpyrotoo What do you mean the blocking isn't that great?

    • @supershoo4518
      @supershoo4518 9 лет назад +10

      NoNameC68 it's not as reliable, it isn't as quick to the mark like lance or sns.
      the fact that the blocking can be upgraded is nice and all, but the only real reason you power up your your shield is to make axe mode stronger and land that ultra burst.
      evading is much quicker than blocking with this weapon, and depending on the status of your shield, easier on your stamina, not to mention it takes you a while to recover from the blow like with gs. while we're on that, blocking with it eats sharpness like the GS.
      block with it as if it were a GS as in, only block when it is literally your only option.

    • @NoNameC68
      @NoNameC68 9 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the clarification. I guess I've never gotten far enough in MH3U to constantly worry about sharpness. But, regardless, there's no reason to dull your weapon if you don't have to.
      When you said the weapon isn't good at blocking, I was confused because I found that it works really good at blocking when you're in a bind. But now that you cleared it up, I think we're on the same page. : P

    I am brand new to monster hunter, and I love the Charge Blade. It took me a while to get even a little comfortable with it, and I still don't block much yet, as my first instinct is to dodge. That would take some time to get out of my system. I haven't managed to get to a charged shield yet, but I can see the benefits. This is clearly was not meant to be a weapon for a newbie like me, but I am going to stick with it, as I am getting better and better. After using it, no other weapon seems quite as satisfying. I have dabbled in the Insect Glaive a bit, but I like the bulky, deliberate nature of Charge Blade far more.

      Rajendra GondhalekarPractice with the Switch Axe. Charge Blade is basically the awesome nephew of Switch Axe. You can get the basics of phial based combat a lot quicker with SA as well. It's pretty quick to get used too and the switch (bad pun intended) to Charge Blade will be smoother in my opinion.

    Big thanks to you for the this tutorial. I didn't get the basic functionality of how to charge my shield for the boost, and it interacted with the burst. I'm still practicing guard points, but thank you for making me aware of them in the first place.

  • @Darkunov
    @Darkunov 9 лет назад +1

    Picked up the demo (no codes needed anymore :3) and got comfortable pretty quickly. The weapon is much less complex to understand once you get your hands on it. There's one tip I found out rather quickly that I'd like to share :
    1. Fill all 5 phials.
    2. Still in blade mode, get back to red energy.
    3. Boost your shield.
    4. Store your energy.
    4 quick steps to having your shield boost and phials.
    While I'm at it, there's also a combo you can do pretty easily that'll bring you up to red energy by itself. Start with the 3-hit combo, shield trust, then charge attack (hold A). Hit everything and you'll be in the red.

    I've gotta say, these videos of yours have helped me immensely, with learning the new weapons. Insect glaive was difficult for me to see the utility at first. Now I call it the most broken weapon type in the game! I've wanted to get better with the charge blade, so this has been even more educational. Thank you for the service you provide to the community! It's true what they say, old dogs can learn new tricks. :D

    MH3U vet here, first MH game on the 3DS and after watching your tutorial, charge blade is easily my favorite weapon. Got the demo last night and with some practice was pulling 10 minute hunts. The CB almost feels OP. A lot of weapons got some beefy addons this generation. The lance is a lot more attractive now and DS got damn sexy with archdemon mode. Awesome video OP!

    Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the moves, I had no idea about the block boost and the like. I did notice the guard points, but never really knew what caused them, so that will be helpful. I think the guard point after horizontal slash is more useful than you think. The shield stays out for an incredibly long time, plus you can morph to axe just as you lose the guard point frames from the horizontal slash to extend the guard point even longer. You also always use the horizontal slash after a side step, so you can do stuff like Draw out > X+A > X > Delay > Side Step > X to get a huge window of guard point frames.

    • @baval5
      @baval5 9 лет назад

      also worth noting is if you mistime your guard point and just hold R it transitions seamlessly into a normal guard. I think what he means though is that you have to plan ahead in many cases to use the spinning guardpoint because the point doesnt come till the end and its not available after all attacks, while the morphing guardpoint can be done instantly at any time in any combo to counter an attack that catches you off guard.

    You taught me a bunch of things I didn't know about the CB. So far the Shield thrust (I happened to do it like twice until now), the Super burst in Ultra mode (That was some news. And considering that the Mega Burst (the Burst with Ultra mode and phials) unload everything, that super burst come handy. You can use Super Burst and unleashed the ultra when then Ultra mode is going off.) and the Guard Point. That was some interesting tutorial.

    I never really appreciated how much was going on when it came to charge axe players. I will now give them more space when it comes to the monster's head (I play a pretty supportive hunting horn and suppose they have just as much right to be at the head as I do)

    The utility and unique attack patterns/combinations is so unreal. I'm on HR 5 right now and still using switch axe. Maybe its about time to main this weapon ;)

    I just posted on your tumblr earlier about input for charging the shield. I just wanted to say thank you for replying. Got it down pat now.

    Thanks for this tutorial. i was using the charge blade without charging my A attack, knowing about the shield boost, and the ultra move. managed to get to gore magala and take it out without those tricks but with them i just wrecked my best times against it.

    I Spent over 40 hours and I thought I knew the ins and outs of the CA, then a friend linked me to this channel and now I feel like i was but a wee babe, time to go spend another 40 hours mastering this god-send of a weapon

    Man, I love this weapon. I primarily solo hunted in MH3U (the other monster hunter I've played seriously) with weapons such as the hammer and long sword, and the CB is just so much more fun (imo, of course) and varied. Although it's definitely not that hard to use, it still has some degree of a learning curve to use effectively, making it rather rewarding to use. Admittedly it's a poor choice for certain hunts, but so far it's my favorite weapon in the game.

    gaijin hunter I just wanted to point out two more things you kind of left out in my opinion after having used the Charge Blade as soon as I picked up the new game. Having been a Monster Hunter player since the first game, I was dying to try out this and the Insect Glaive. And after fiddling around with it then hearing about your channel, I decided to see whats up.
    The two points I wanted to hit on were the two moves I felt you left out. Both are pretty simple and straight forward and both involve a charged shield.
    1st: With a Charged Shield, you can go from blocking an attack successfully straight into Axe Morph to counter your monsters attack (if you feel there is a safe opening). This can lead into some nice combos.
    2nd: I felt this one is an important one imo. When you have a charged shield, you can push R+A (as if you were charging phials) and follow it up with a normal sword attack. This actually puts a phial burst onto your sword itself also giving it Impact/Element damage just like the shield burst. Especially if you're close enough where you can't input that damage to the head via axe mode.

      I believe you can switch to axe from a block without a charged shield.

      You can do it with out charged shields too

      You can. I also just recently discovered another new move not shown in this video. When "charging" your vials into the shield, press A to instantly bring out at Charged Axe attack (instead of the sword swung from the shield using x)

      Yeah, I've used that one for a while. Useful if you need to load phials right as the monster got knocked down.
      And I think OP just found it easier to go from block -> Axe swing while the shield's charged, since you can take greater hits. You can't do it after blocking especially strong hits (The ones that send you sliding back a good few meters).

      Crazy Jay Love these videos, just personally glad I came to them after having already played with the new ones (since I know how to use the old ones) myself and teaching myself the ropes.
      Been playing MH since the beginning, when there were like NO tutorials, so its only habit for me to avoid them until I'm well into the game.

    One of my favourite things to do with this weapon recently is that you can do the round slash immediately after a sidestep, which you can also do immediately after a round slash. Basically, it allows you to do an infinite round slash combo (until your weapon starts to bounce). It's not 100% practical as you move all over the place but it's really fun to do.

    All of these are super helpful and informative. Definitely helped me out heaps. Only criticism is that you have to read it all, which gets annoying especially if you're trying to do the moves along with the video.
