GLC are like spinal tap for rap. They obviously love rap so decided to parody it. It's taking the piss but with love.
They're also a great bunch of Welsh lads. I remember seeing them at UK festivals. An hour or so before their set they'd literally walk through the crowd with big placards with GLC and come see us etc on them. No minders or security just a bunch of lads having a laugh interacting with the crowd.

Don't think you're quite getting the Bitish sense of humour! GLC are a hilarious 'mock--rap' group, with EXTREMELY British references and humour styles. At the time this came out, there was loads in the news about kids commiting suicide "because of rap songs". This is a piss-take song, saying (sarcastically) "Oh, yeah, of course it's not guns and governments killing people, it's OBVIOUSLY rappers... derrrrr!" Us Brits love dry sarchasm. I went to see GLC a few weeks ago - at Swansea! Best gig of my life! Check out their new track 'Lion's Mane' - it's hilarious and should make more sense to the US audience.

There's an element of GLC where they don't just satirise rap but society in general. Rappers don't kill people but presenting the idea as they do allows them to tear it apart.
Similarly in their later song, Your Missus is a Nutter, they tell a story of crazy women but also highlight the problem of drunken violence in young women in the early 2000s.
Maybe this is head canon but I thought the music at its best had levels.

Hilarious album. Was massive in Wales when it dropped. Some of the local references are class. ‘Roller disco’ is best track imo, totally ridiculous yet still a class old skool track 😂 fyi UB40 are like middle road uk reggae pop that parents listened to

Thing is it's a joke about middle class white, Welsh (and token English) men 'doing rap', but with a genuine love for the stuff that they are parodying, or paying homage to.
Also, some of their stuff is genuinely good - 'soap bar' for instance. It isn't just posh LA improv twats doing pseudo-80's rap shite.
