Lorewise carian retaliation was literally created by the carian royal family to fight against the academy in case they tried to betray them. Which they did.

"Flying rock", "Flying bigger rock with extra crystals", "Spiralling rocks" etc.
The academy doesn't have good defensive spells, and even spurned Thops when he made his.
I love how calm your gameplay is. Mohg starts wildly swinging and explosions and blood, and you're pressing as little inputs as required. Well done!

There’s actually quite a lot of cool shit in this game if you’re creative enough and ignore the constant meta building.
Yeah too bad everyone used cringe ass cheese methods like mimic tear, rivers of blood, comet azur, moonveil etc. I really think they made a great mistake with poor balancing.
not really innovative since souls games have always been like this, but yes, there's lots of room for being creative

for instance, in ds3 you can kill wolnir with pestilent mist without even waking him up...

I tried doing this again and the counter was being a little janky. I was still taking the full damage from Bloodboon despite Carian Retaliation still making the floating phalanx. It might be a positioning thing so good luck.
Edit: I should clarify that it was the flying Bloodboon that kept hitting me through the counter

Can we not talk about how he dodged the rot spray by using the hovering dagger spell. That was nice
Scripting was almost perfect at the end, imagine already being halfway through charging the AoW as the swords break his poise, then landing the riposte.

When you parried the thrown blood flames, it prevents the flames from hitting the ground (1:15-1:20). That is so clutch.

What's your shield upgrade level? Since carian retaliation scales with intelligence and shield DMG I believe with higher int and upgraded shield glintblades can dish so much more DMG than this I haven't tried yet tho
I don’t think I’ve upgraded a shield since my first few playthroughs. I’m also fairly certain that Carian Retaliation does not scale with shield level anyway, since it was incredibly broken in PvP a while ago and From nerfed it. I don’t remember exactly how tho.
It gets buffed if u use the shard of alexander talisman and mass graven/graven talisman
I remember this AoW being absolutely goated upon release. Would use the Wraith Summoning Bell and then parry to get the daggers and when they fired, it did so much damage that you could easily three-shot the Elden Beast.
I’m glad it’s not that broken anymore but they definitely overcorrected it.

Carian Retaliation is just that good on Mohg. He’s also my favorite boss next to Godfrey so I’ve had plenty of practice fighting him.

There's plenty of reason to do so especially with the DLC. Even before that he's got 420k runes on him.
I know it's hard if you get hit a lot but for 3 minutes of work it's well worth it.
