    Sergeant's voice is the same as Sugar Bear on the old Sugar Crisps cereal commercials from the '60s. "Can't get enough of those Sugar Crisps, Sugar Crisps..."
    Vintage 1960's Post Super Sugar Crisp Sugar Bear Commercial

    • @fromthesidelines
      @fromthesidelines 9 лет назад +3

      Close enough. Gerry Matthews was "Sugar Bear" in the Post "Sugar Crisp" cereal commercials [and "LINUS THE LIONHEARTED"]. Sandy Becker was "Sergeant Okay Homa" in this series {in fact, in the first episode, he sounded too much like John Wayne; his lawyers sent a "cease and desist" letter to TTV/Leonardo, and his voice was "modified"}. Besides, the "Gophers" were originally part of "THE UNDERDOG SHOW"---which was primarily sponsored by General Mills, Post's cereal rival.

    Originally seen on "THE UNDERDOG SHOW" in 1966. Kenny Delmar is "Colonel Kit Coyote"; George S. Irving is "Ruffled Feather"; Sandy Becker is "Sgt. Okey Homa" and "Running Board".

    I guess they were a part of "Underdog" show,but, I do remember "The Go Go Gophers" having their own show on Saturday mornings. Anybody else remember this?

    They sure did! The Go Go Gophers did have their own Saturday Morning series...but it didn't last too long! It was on CBS, and locally here in Chicago on WBBM-TV Saturday Mornings, it was on @6:30AM. Also, there were two other opening themes for the "Go Go Gophers... Watch Em' Go, Go, Go! It would be great if they included those too in the set...at least it is in the Underdog Set, after the way Classic Media failed to include the Original Openings (except for 1 cartoon) for the "Harveytoons" Set!

    It's an independent station from the bay area. It used to be a WB affiliate until it merged with the CW. The station aired these classic cartoons a couple years ago, and I recorded them when I had the chance.

    Thought so. All radio stations west of the Mississippi begin with K while all radio stations east of the Mississippi begin with W. Except for KDKA in Pittsburgh, the very first radio in the U.S. which is historically significant for covering the Harding-Cox presidential election of 1920.

    @clintonearlwalker I knew it was hard to find, but I didn't know RUclips removes it for being racist. Hopefully, they don't take down this video.
    I have some other rare shorts and openings from Jay Ward and Total Television that I have yet to see anywhere else. I plan on uploading those in the future as well.

    0:54-0:58-I don't mean to be a wiseguy or a know-it-all, but I learned in English that in military terms that the title of a man who is Colonel is a never abbreviated when only his last name is shown on a sign or a written in a book. Colonel Kit Coyote's sign on the entrance of his office is simply written Col. Coyote, that's inaccurate. But who cares it's a cartoon.

    @bullwinklecanada Thanx for that, I used to watch the gophers every Saturday morning as part of the Underdog show. Apparently, some Native Americans (Indians) complained and it's been very hard to find that intro anywhere. I could only find the audio on the entire internet without the video. Be careful about copyright and RUclips guidelines, it's a pain in the ass to get banned. I was banned from another site after I spent about $300 playing their computer game.

    Instead of "the Unsinkable Ironclad," he could've tried naming it the "sugar" or the "alcohol"--because those sunk a lot of reservation Indians later.

    Most people don't know this but the sergeant's name was Oakie Hama. But his name was never mentioned in the cartoons. Perhaps it sounded too strange to be mentioned; the name made the sergeant sound Japanese rather than English.

  • @clintonearlwalker
    @clintonearlwalker 12 лет назад +1

    This is amazing example of free speech we had 40 years ago. Basically an anit-war narrative played with historical factions. I watched this when I was a todd 40 years ago and thank goodness as it showed me the folly of acting superior.

    I know it is a bit racist, but hay the Indians win all of the time, for me, being an American Indian growing during that time if felt kind of good to know that in cartoon form we were the smart ones and the ones that could win against the white people, if only to show we are all just people.
