Meshuggah is nuts and all but a lot of their songs don't sound very good. They might be crazy technical shit but they just don't sound good to me at least. It's one thing to be crazy, innovative and technical with your music but it's another to do all that AND make it sound good... I think Gojira does a better job than Meshuggah on sounding better but that's just me.
Well if it isn't bout being crazy, innovative, technical etc.. your comment is about "sounding good", but isn't this relative to each of the listeners?
I did say that's just my opinion. I do respect meshuggah and some of their shit makes my jaw drop like,"are they really playing that." it's usually the songs that are extremely repetitive that I don't like and meshuggah seems to be a little more on that repetitive side.

I'm an old school metal head, who keeps trying to find the best new metal to satiate my jones. I still have all my old Slayer/testamnet/tallica/ Deth albums on cassette! Later progressed into Bands like Tool , SOAD, early Mastodon .. all very good for different reasons.. all heavy as all fuck and unique. Just getting into Gojira (finally after hearing ABOUT them for years). I've immersed myself in Mars, L'Savage, and Magma in the last two months, almost non stop. i can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would think Magma is shit? Nothing pretentious about them... blue collar thinking mans metal.. This 40 year old dentist fucking loves it.
I read your post, and it tripped me out. Your taste in music and motivations are eerily like mine. There is only one place left for you to go. Technical death metal. Gojira was like a gateway drug to me. Just like when I first heard Metallica and Slayer for the first time, I thought to myself, this is too intense for me. Then I couldn't get enough. Then I started with Cynic, Atheist, and Death. Then Obscura, Necrophagist, and Spawn of Possession. Hour of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Defeated Sanity followed. Brutal, slam, and traditional death metal. Now I like black metal. I'm an older headbanger like yourself, and have seen all of the bands you had mentioned. Check out Gojira live. They are one of the few bands that actually sound better live. They are more intense on stage than on record. All three of their live albums are testament to their intensity. Try checking out some of the bands I had mentioned, if you haven't already. Remember, it's the journey, not the destination.
I think on previous albums they spent more time crafting the songs, not hearing those complex rhythms like on 'Liquid Fire' or 'The Art of Dying', the song writing is purposely stripped down on this album, and some people really miss the technical wankery of their other albums.

I never thought such "epileptic" video can be that good.
Absolutely sensational. I was wondering when we'd be hearing from you guys again, and you still have your amazing sound in tact. You never cease to amaze and please me.
