I'm a senior citizen and enjoy watching all of your videos. I can't help but remark that when I was growing up in the 1960's, the word decluttering was not in any vocabulary. No one back then had enough stuff that needed "decluttering". The new habit of obtaining stuff, too much stuff, has created this whole industry of decluttering and organization. Your comments in this video are spot on.
@@annamariabo8963My grandmother too had multiple collectibles- that generation *valued and *meticulously displayed collectibles/belongings though (and no dust in her house) - no piles, no hoards of storage bins, boxes, all rooms functional for multi purpose. I recently got a portable dishwasher after years of living without one, and let me tell you, it is worth the counter space. That thing boosted my mental health as much as a year of therapy!
I’ve usually had a dishwasher but don’t now. I don’t have a preference for regular dish washing but I realize now how much I used my dishwasher for random things that are hard to otherwise get clean. Toys when I had young kids, dish drying rack, soap dishes, flower pots, vases, small wicker and plastic baskets, other storage bins, etc. I was always using it for non-dishes. And anything with a lot of crevices really come much cleaner quickly in the dishwasher. Of course not everything can go in there. But in general, random things I couldn’t run through the dishwasher could be put through the laundry in a mesh bag (stuff animals, etc). So I miss my dishwasher.
I have a dishwasher but it’s just me and honestly I only use it once in a blue moon. Easier to hand wash than wait for the DW to fill up. Well, today I spent several hours going through old financial statements, ripping them in shreds. That was one thing crossed off my list! Yay! Have a great week Carla! 🧡🎃🍁
I had been binge watching your videos since I found you. I have 95% of my house decluttered in the last 6 months. I can relate to your conclusions. So much easier to keep clean with less stuff. I too need to get in the habit of putting things away so it doesn't get messy but as long as everything has a place that's definitely half the battle. And you do have to make multiple passes as your organizing it definitely is a process. I don't think I ever regretted one thing I got rid of. I find that when other areas of my life is out of control decluttering helps me feel like I'm gaining control back. It's addicting. Samson makes me smile.
Hi Carla, I agree cleaning is so much easier when you declutter your home and your stuff has a place. Yes, you are right, decluttering is a process and doesn't happen overnight. I've been on a decluttering journey for 2 and a half years now. I shredded a lot of my papers and I donated some many of my clothing. Because of me decluttering my clothes and papers, my home is easier to clean and organized. I made a rule for myself to just buy things I need. This way I won't clutter my home. She was my best friend. 😢 I want to thank you for being yourself and not fake. It's going to be great getting life organized again. I been in a slump for so long. And without Elsa its so hard. I would like a dishwasher especially when we host family and friends. Also being decluttered and clean would be great if I could get my husband on board.
Just start on your own stuff and he might come around. Hubby was the biggest hoarder ever, but after cleaning out parental and business properties he's done a 180! He'll never be a TIDY person but he's a lot more intentional about what he brings home and much better at letting go of stuff too. Just last night we got rid of 2 jackets he never wears and a box of books. I don't think he'd have found it that easy if he hadn't been watching me for the last few years.
Team handwashing! I own a dishwasher but I hardly ever have enough dishes to fill it, and I only have two of my favorite cereal bowls so I have to wash them at least every other day anyway. It would take a week for the dishwasher to be anywhere near full.
I've lived with and without a dishwasher and I am Team Dishwasher all the way! While I am fully capable of keeping up with the dishes, having a dishwasher makes it that much simpler.
To answer your question: yes, having a dish washer is awesome. I wouldn't want to live without one. Granted, if something like a pan or a plate is super dirty, I rince it off, so it won't dry, but that doesn't take a lot of time. I have a smaller one, since we are only two people in the appartement and we switch it on every two, mayby three days. Sometimes you have to dry everything a little bit, but that also is done in less then five minutes
Team dishwasher. For sure!! I still have to wash pots and pans by hand, but I can throw in all the other stuff, cups, bowls, plates, silverware.. and they can dry and be off the counter until I’m ready to put them away. We have 4 people in our home and don’t use paper plates anymore. So we fill it every day. Plus I feel like they get cleaner, sanitized by the heat. My hands can’t stand very hot water, but I can do hotter water with dish gloves.
Team dishwasher all the way! I imagine if you're very minimalist about your dishes, only using one or two items it's easy to keep up hand washing but that's not me. I'm gonna use all the mugs. I'm gonna use a different plate. I'm gonna use all the spoons 😂 And once I realized most of my cookware can go in too?! I run it every day almost.
Washing dishes is relaxing to me... We had a dishwasher growing up, and my parents never used it. My brother and I had to take turns doing the dishes. We used to say, "It's your night dynamite."
Hand wash dishes - I live alone and don't cook, so there's not that many. By the time you rinse them off and load them into a dish washer, they could be done, is how I look at it. And.....Yes, your stove rocks, it's pretty darn awesome, reminds me of the one my grandma had.
Awww Carla, YT recommended one of your videos and I'm literally watching them all! Wish you had over 1000+ vids so I can keep myself entertained forever hahahah Here's to more and more of them. Whenever you come to London, please shout as I'd love to have a coffee with ya! Plus, Samson is just THE CUTEST being - wishing him lots of years and good health ❤ x
I have never had dishwasher, I love to wash dishes by hand, I listen to audiobook or music and just spend me time :) Here in Finland we have drying cabinet above the sink so it's easier to dry dishes.
I really love watching your videos. I do the same thing with baskets in places where I used to pile things up for sorting later and that really works for me. Before that I thought there was only one right way to keep a place clean but it didn't work and was exhausting. Now that I pay attention to my needs better with decluttering, placement, and limits on my time cleaning I can agree, it is a gift to myself. Keep doing what helps you.
I use a dishwasher but I still hand wash certain kitchen items like plastic ware, pots, pans, wooden utensils, etc. Sometimes it seems like there’s more to hand wash at times but what can you do?! It gets old as with most household tasks as they’re very repetitious and unfortunately need accomplishing on the daily. Btw, I love your shower curtain, Carla, it’s so pretty and colorful. Plus your stick-on kitchen floor tiles still look great. 😀
Every time I watch your videos you inspire me to start my channel back up. I'm getting there baby steps. I just have away 4 target bags full of stuff I decluttered to a family in need
I cram every item possible into my dishwasher. I am still a purist when it comes to wooden items, and my knives, but secretely wish I could just toss them in, but I don't. Hand washing will definitely extend life of lots of things.
I grew up in a small, post WW2 bungalow (975 sq ft! 2 beds/1 bath). We never had a dishwasher! I was 31 when we moved house and finally had a house big enough for a dishwasher. My Mom just turned 90 and we need a dishwasher for her . But many times, I just grab some Dawn in a spray bottle and quickly handwash each dish as it hits the sink! So I can go either way on having a dishwasher or not.
I now have a dishwasher. Only use it once a month, living alone it’s faster to hand wash, otherwise it takes 90 minutes for go through the cycle and uses way too much water. Love your orange couch and dark credenza - the room is really nice. 💙🕊🙏🏻🕉❤️✝️
Definitely team hand wash every day. I have a brand new full size built in dishwasher that I have never used once in the past 3 years. I don’t like dishwashers-I don’t want a dishwasher. It was just here when we moved in. I have used dishwashers before in the past -the dishes never look as nice as they do when hand washing. When I was younger I loathed doing dishes, but somehow through the years it became my zen. I love doing dishes, and I keep them done up every day.
I use to spend an entire Friday night cleaning the house top to bottom whether it needed it or not. I’m much more chill now and only clean when things get dirty. A 15 min daily routine pretty much is all it takes now to keep everything nicely maintained. I gave dishwasher but find I wash most by hand anyhow. Love your videos!
I’m loving the baskets for a catch all throughout the week. Thanks for sharing your home and I am loving your stove. I’m a senior and have never used my dishwasher. I’m team hand wash dishes. Old school all the way.
9:17 I’m on team full size portable dishwasher on wheels. It serves as a countertop, too. I plan on using it more often when I have people over, and it can serve as a drinks area. If you have the floor space, I highly recommend it. It’s like a portable clothes washer.
Love your stove! A dishwasher makes things much easier and I feel more sterile, but it's expensive to run electricity-wise so I only use it maybe once every other month or if I do a lot of cooking. Usually I do dishes as I go when I'm cooking and after I eat, I wash the rest right away. Your apartment looks nice and your dog is handsome. Dogs are the best!
You asked for comments about having a dishwasher. I used to have one, and I got rid of it because it was too much for one person. I got myself into the habit of handwashing dishes immediately after I use them, no matter how few or how many. I keep a drying mat on the counter next to the sink. Added perks are: (a) all the extra space without a huge clunky dishwasher rolling around the kitchen, (b) everything is easier to clean when the mess is fresh, and (c) no chore staring me down when I come back into the kitchen later. Win-win-win. 🙂 P.S. I wish I had known about the portable washer & dryer set you have when I used to live in an apartment. Those convenient units are game-changers... and so cute, too. (And I have a friend who briefly had a countertop dishwasher, and she said it wasn't worth it.)
Decluttering really does work! Now that you’ve got all your rooms in order the clean up is much easier. I love the use of baskets and bags to hold things and keep stuff looking tidy. The soaps are very cute too ❤❤❤
From someone who washed their dishes for two years a dishwasher is so nice for those weeks you’re just tired. I remember that was always (and still is in a way) the first thing I would do when I had to clean my entire apartment, always. Now it’s nice that I can just rinse them and throw them into the dishwasher to clean. However there are some days where I just ask myself if I should just hand wash them to get them over with 🤣
You have such a calming voice. Have you considered doing voice overs or an ebook maybe? Love your videos. Arching from Cape Town South Africa. Love and light to you
So in January of this year I started trying to become more of a minimalist of my life and Home ., I live in a 1925 home that I’m cropping. It was my mothers home and she’s left it to me. We moved in 30 years ago. I was a caretaker for my mom, so this house had plenty of her things plus my things, my children’s things, and now I am an empty Nester me and my husband and my father-in-law. I started out in January when my new grandbaby was born and I haven’t stopped. I’ve been doing so many small projects and updates to the house. A lot of them are pretty much. All of them are DIY this month actually actually Nana started October I started to paint the dining room me and my husband and we’re not the youngsters we were in before and my husband is sick with cancer, so it seem to take us a little bit longer and then I have a cabinet in there that my brother built me 20 years ago and I wanted to freshen up the paint that seem to take a good week that is done. The painting is done but now I’m just trying to decluttering and refresh and get ready for Thanksgiving. Wish me luck.
This morning I had a feeling that autumn started. It was gloomy, rainy and cold when I woke up so I put on my warm hoodie and started preparing breakfast. Turned on some autumn lo-fi and string lights to add ✨️the vibe✨️, made my warm breakfast, prepared a cup of black tea with mint, lemon and honey and watched your video while eating. And I felt warm and calm and cheerful. Thank you for being you - so relatable, cozy and absolutely delightful. Have a nice week and take care, dear Carla (and ofc Samson, you sweet lil babe) 💛✨️💛
I would suggest putting the duvet in a duvet cover that you can then wash and change every week, it will keep the duvet clean and make it last a lifetime, in this way you just need to wash the duvet itself once a year when you put it away!
I absolutely adore that quilt on your bed! I don't have a dishwasher myself, although I have had one in the past and may do again. The dishwasher wins hands down on the science of killing the most germs on your plates etc and does not have to be a great water guzzler (you can find eco models), but not everything can go in it (pots and pans quite often need washing by hand) and most things have to be rinsed before they go in a dishwasher anyway, so you're *almost* washing them by hand as well! But would I have one right now if I had a no hassle installation? You bet I would. Just make sure you wash your precious items by hand, including glasses that matter to you (like crystal). That's my two cents. Well, that was an enjoyable video, Carla - and surprisingly satisfying to watch! I find it encouraging and motivating to see what can be achieved if you've just decluttered your life down to the essentials for you (which might vary from person to person). Thank you! (Love and fusses to Samson, who clearly takes his supervisory role as Quality Controller seriously!)
Team no dishwasher, atm. There is an ancient one in our apartment, but although it functions it sounds like a hurricane coming through 😂 so we have stuck to handwashing for now!
Carla, I am definitely on the side of a dishwasher as I do believe it helps with germs and a time saver for you. However, if you can't justify one right now, I would advise to you as someone who cleans homes, to put scalding hot water in one side of your sink with soap. As you go about your day, put all your dirty dishes in the soapy side, (except sharp knives) as your sink is full, you can just rinse those dishes off with clean water on the other side and it saves water too. It is such a time saver for sure. Just know, that once you get a dishwasher, you will never look back. I raised 4 kids with no dishwasher, it can be done , but now that I have one, I am amazed at how clean my kitchen stays . Love your content and please get Samson a bone he loves. LOL
He swindled me into buying him this one!! He picked it out at the pet store and then refused to eat it when we got home 😂 and yes I will try that set up with dishes on one side soaking first thanks!❤️
I'm really hoping you are able to get your own place, so repainting isn't such a pita. You're so sweet and have a great taste. Super proud of how much you simplified your life ❤️
Happy Sunday Carla. What's the sense in a dishwasher when you have to rinse and wash off food beforehand. It's like cleaning your house before the house cleaner gets there.😅😅😅
Happy Sunday Carla, it’s been windy here in the desert so the hubs shop vac’d the patio outdoor carpet/furniture/bikes and ordered a bike cover. It looks so nice out there now but of course it’s a bit windy today 🙄😂. I had the inside to dust…🤧😂. I used to have a laundry mat that washed my towels for my business and got smart and added my clothes to the order. Best money ever spent when you don’t have the convenience of a washer/dryer and a time saver. We are currently in the process of adding plumbing to our unit for a washer/dryer. Hubs is literally taking down a small wall we covered to help speed up the process for other parts of the whole project to run smoother. You made a great point when you mentioned “stations”. Having the right amount of storage or the right furniture to store things and knowing what to declutter has been such a process. The wall the hubs is opening up is small but big enough to store things top to bottom which will be super helpful. So today is day one of our project…😊🧺 all in the name of laundry ❤.
Wow I can't believe you got all of that laundry washed for 40 bucks !!! ***** I am loving your dresser in the living room more every time I see it, it's really made the room come together. ***** I also love old stoves, they sure don't make them like they used to. I wish that they still came with a pull down cover! **** our dishwasher broke and we didn't get it fixed for awhile ( too much other stuff going on ) so I hand washed them. I didn't mind, it's actually kinda relaxing. Now I probably use dishwasher/handwashing 50/50. Mostly just plates / silverware / bowls in the dishwasher and the rest I do by hand. The countertop dishwashers hold so few dishes it doesn't even make sense to use them. IMO.
I have a dish washer and haven't used it since I moved in over five years ago. I like hand washing my dishes. All of my apartments have had dish washers. I use it for storage.
Our dishwasher broke in 2020 and we are yet to replace it. We got rid of a lot of the excess dishes we had, so now it would be an inconvenience to get one. I think we will get a 2 drawer dishwasher whenever we do end up getting one, for the times that we have large gatherings. But from someone who had one all our married life, we are glad we don’t have one now. Xx
Having a dishwasher is overrated. Lol. I loved for so many years either without one or with old ones that left my dishes with soap all over them, that I continue to wash most of my dishes by hand. I have a lot of dishes that are not dishwasher friendly now so it is what it is. I end up filling up and running my dishwasher about 1-2 times a month.
I couldn’t live without my dishwasher. There are 5 of us. But I’d still get one if it was just me & hubby. I hate washing dishes. You can get so many types too; integrated, full size, slim & table top.
Have you take the clutter bug organizer quiz. I think you might be a butterfly type like me. We need hooks, baskets, and easy storage solutions. And we like to see ‘all of the things’ lol. Great video

Your apartment is really nice. Love your dog! ❤
Thanks! 😊
Your videos are so realistic and human. Thank you for sharing!
I appreciate that!
Yes I love a dishwasher. Use to wash every pot and pan and dishes. It saves on time a dishwasher does.
Omg I love that corner with the guitar!!!!🎉
💙🕊🙏🏻🕉❤️✝️
Decluttering is an ongoing process. But, you’re right: It makes tidying up much easier.
Love your home so inviting. Dish washer. Although I don't mind washing by hand. Walk through always satisfies me. Great reset. 🤩
Old school all the way.
ohhh that is good to know!! team handwash aint so bad!😍
It’s true! Also, you won’t need to declutter that often when you stop buying excess stuff ❤
9:17 I’m on team full size portable dishwasher on wheels. It serves as a countertop, too. I plan on using it more often when I have people over, and it can serve as a drinks area. If you have the floor space, I highly recommend it. It’s like a portable clothes washer.
Carla I love watching your episodes.
I’m team handwashing! I even have a dishwasher that I haven’t used since I purchased my townhome in 1997.
Love and light to you
You have such a great radio voice! 📻
I throughly enjoy watching your vids for that reason alone ... and eclectic music taste :)
Loved this ❤You did a great job especially gaining Samson’s approval !!! 🐕🦺🤩😅 Have a lovely week ahead 😍
Team dishwasher for sure. Your place is looking good. Getting that laundry outsourced was a great idea. Thanks Carla, enjoyed watching this very much.
Best idea ever!! Thanks so much! 😊
Love the slow lo fi morning yesss
Thank you for helping drop my b/p! 😇 Your videos are so relaxing yet motivating…I can do this, it’s real! You’re the real deal, thank you Carla! 🩷
I'm so glad!💝
I have a countertop portable dishwasher, and it makes a huge difference for me. Definitely a quality of life upgrade!!!
Also, it uses less water than hand washing dishes.
I love your videos, Carla. So peaceful and full of love ❤
Thank you so much!🥰
I'm really hoping you are able to get your own place, so repainting isn't such a pita. You're so sweet and have a great taste. Super proud of how much you simplified your life ❤️
I love love love the basket idea!!! Totally doing this!!! ❤
Team dishwasher here. And your choice of music is really nice, I enjoyed it very much.🐕
Happy Sunday Carla.
I love the quilt!
IMO.
Love that quilt 😊
Team dishwasher because we have 5 children and i cook from scratch, we have company often, too and I refuse to waste money on paper plates!
I’m definitely a dishwasher person. Although I do rinse my dishes prior to loading the dishwasher.
Team hand washing even when I had a dishwasher.
I loved it because I used the dishwasher for drying my hand washed dishes. Hehe
Your vintage oven made me sentimental. My Grandma had a 2-tone sage green double-oven in her kitchen, (in Australia). 🥰
Oh wow!
Great video
yes i am butterfly and was just on her podcast this week!!😍
