    8:23 “Why was he rejected by Hera?”
    Hephaestus was born deformed and not beautiful like the other gods, so on the day of his birth Hera literally chucked him off a mountain. Hephaestus found a home with some sea nymphs who he thanked with beautiful jewelry he created. When Hera found out what he could create she convinced him to come back promising him that Aphrodite would be his wife. In the stories I’ve read Aphrodite ends up choosing to be with Hephaestus because he works so much giving her time to “mingle” with other gods, especially Ares.

    • @decembersbitch7694
      @decembersbitch7694 Год назад

      slight change, He struggled his way up the mountain and gifted hera with the chair to allow him onto olympus but she tok the chair and rejected him BUT the chair was the one we see in the episode and she was forced to allow him onto olympus and aphrodite was forced to marry him.

    • @heyitsmira17
      @heyitsmira17 Год назад +39

      I wasn't familiar with it, but apparently there is indeed this version of Hephaestus getting revenge on Hera and trapping her in this chair that even gods wouldn't be able to get out of, and he used that to get them to hand Aphrodite in marriage to him. I liked the feeling of learning another new aspect of greek myths, it's one of the things I liked the most about the books 😊

    One thing I loved learning about this series is the fact that they casted an actual disabled actor (Timothy Omundson) to play Hephaestus (who is known for being a disabled God)... and according to a post by Omundson on Instagram, the props department constructed Hephaestus' cane to the same specifications as Omundson's real life cane, so he could actually use it
    I love the parallel they give Annabeth and Hephaestus in this story... both betrayed by their mothers and realizing the Gods arent as great as people think they are... Hephaestus really was the perfect person to hear her speech and I like the little comment of him putting in a good word with her mother

    • @heyitsmira17
      @heyitsmira17 Год назад +25

      Idk if it's a coincidence or not, but there's a point in the "What is Love" scene when both Percy and Annie stay silent and you just see Hephaestus being rejected and mistreated while the lyrics say "What is wrong? What is right? Give me a sign". That whole song fits Hephaestus so well - a god married to the goddess of love who constantly rejects and cheats on him, rejected by a mom who was supposed to love him... and asking not to be hurt anymore. He's there wondering what is wrong or right.
      That chair represents him doing the same thing all the gods around him do. But Annabeth shows him what is right: Percy has shown her that they had to break that chain of bullying, backstabbing and neglect, of not caring about each other. That was the sign he needed, and thus he lets Percy go. This is what PJO is about at the end, right? Breaking generational trauma and making things different... better.

  • @midoriya-shonen

    The reason you don't remember how the water park scene went down is because they did something entirely new with it! In the books, it was just a normal abandoned amusement park -- not one specifically made by Hephaestus. What was made by him was a golden net made from animatronic spiders' threads who attacked Percy and Annabeth as the careened down the river. He also set cameras up around the ride to broadcast Ares and Aphrodite caught in his trap back to Olympus and embarrass them. In that version, Ares really did abandon his shield there when he realized there was a trap and made Percy and Annabeth go get it to avoid the bad publicity. Nobody had to sacrifice themselves, but we did learn that Annabeth is terrified of spiders, and we got to see Percy and Annabeth combine their skills of wisdom and water to launch themselves at the perfect time to exit the ride without being crushed. A totally different series of events, both with their own strengths.

      Tbh the last 3 episodes were better than the book counterparts imho. I trly believe that the choices they are making narrative-wise, also having in mind the rest of the books, are so well done. Medusa's update, tying it up to ep 4 and Annabeth/Percy having their worldviews challenged, which is now tied to how one sees in the other something that they lack. I can already see certain gears turning for future episodes and even seasons, and it's so nice that every little scene and aspect isn't wasted here. It's been an amazing journey to me.

    Historically yes Athena was a woman hater. The Athenians and other followers of Athena arguably used her to justify a lot of misogyny in their culture because she was born directly from Zeus' head and is motherless (Zeus consumed her pregnant mother to avert a prophecy that she would give Zeus a son who would overthrow him...as you do). Because of this, Athena thinks and strategises in a way that men were expected to do so and her appreciation for beauty and crafting came from the perspective of architectural perfection and aesthetics rather than more emotive places. As a result she favoured male heroes and punished women who displeased her more harshly than most of the other gods (witness Medusa and Arachne)

      In some versions, Aphrodite is born from the remains of Ouranus being tossed into the sea. I believe in later books they bring this up in the series. Doesn’t mean Ares and Aphrodite aren’t related in some other way with how Greek mythology works.

Gold is kinda mechanic make everything sense cuz Hephaistos made the throne for Hera. In the Greek myth gold can effect Gods. like the one story they trapped Zeus something made with gold
