- Friends since high school, these two nimrods get the chance to move into the Michigan forest. There are no buildings, no roads, no power or water and that's just what they have dreamed of for years.
They aren't homesteading or teaching you how to do anything of importance but rather giving you a glimpse of what the ultimate in outdoor play is like for two dudes with a pile of tools and very little common sense.
Because I’ve gotten so many questions about the gear that I use on the channel, here are some of the most important pieces I use every day:
My Favorite Piece of Gear- Chainsaw Helmet amzn.to/3uuW5xB
Granberg Chainsaw Mill amzn.to/3cdRXvn
How I Keep the Mosquitoes Away! amzn.to/3frenvh
Big, Black Log-Peeling Knife - Becker BK9 amzn.to/3oZIeOH
The Trailer I Use Behind My 4 Wheeler- Yutrax amzn.to/3fvO8DK
Bug Net Rooms I Use amzn.to/3uwOK0l
Heaters in My Tent and the Deer Castle amzn.to/3frQ7Jh
Thank you all so much for supporting this crazy endeavor! Without you folks donating to Surviving Ringworm, I wouldn't be able to even consider staying out here in the wilderness a second year making videos. You seriously blow my mind!

I'm circling back to the beginning to understand the end. Fantastic.
My wife and I did something similar, we bought a school bus. Changed it to a motorhome. And explored Canada for seven years and then my wife passed away. I have been watching all your videos , So I came back and left a note on the very first one. Stay safe God bless. ✌️🇨🇦
Waiting every Saturday was killing me. Watching it from the start booois
I can't believe there's only 2,000 likes on this video after 3 years! Should be 10 times that!
I’m so friggin glad I found this channel.
Glycerin
Remember when you were a kid? We would go out in the woods and what do you do . . . you build a fort. That's pretty much what you guys are doing. Just as an adult. I envy both of you.
You are 100% correct. This is exactly the same thing but with internal combustion.
I've spent 3 days Back-to-backing videos I didn't see before subscribing 2 years ago.. Ryan, you have so much fun working your ass off. Js
Glycerine is my new Go to word 😂
Love your channel and glad I found it. Regards from Australia 🦘🦘
So glad i found your channel the wife and i want to do this so i had to come see your first ever video.
yep. been watching the new stuff and thought to myself...yep lets go back to the beginning. here we go. great content.
I just found your channel from your saw mill video. I'm so glad I did! Your attitude and perspective is inspiring.
Just found your page and binge watched a bunch of videos. You are living my dream.
I stumbled across your channel yesterday and have been binge watching ever since...lol , great videos, Keep em coming...
Careful watching too much Ringworm all at once! It’s known in the medical community to cause premature balding and spasmodic limbs.
Same here
Same!
@@survivingringworm2202 what about premature building?
You guys are hilarious, let me know if you want that lens. You seem too cheap to buy your own, so I'm guessing yes. I also like dry humor.
Hate to say it but I had my 2 kids by the time i was 20 and by the time I was 37, they were gone. One college at 18 and 1 married and running his own business. They contributed to the property and the machinery we use and by the time we were your age we had it all. A full life with no sausage fests
I'm basically at a midlife crossroads in which I'm considering starting over basically all things since nothing is really tying me down so your channel is so inspiring! Checking out video #1 now...
The ringworm must have been significant enough to name a channel after it. Perhaps you can illucidate us on this. Perhaps some information on dealing with and treatment of this fungus. How the woods caused this would be interesting I think more folks have ringworm than we know and even without realizing it. And suffer mostly with the intense itching for years and cannot find the cause and treatments. Thanks for this title.
I just found your channel, and I'm going through every video from your very first post!! I'm SO envious, and happy for you guys!! You're right....every man would love this life if given the chance to have it. Keep up the awesome work, boys!!
No mask required. I’m loving these videos!!
Get a Bernadoodle!! I just found this channel. Michigander here, also single, 40s, loves adventuring!!!
Love it! Simple pure creative fun (& funny)! Thanks for sharing.
Watched one of your more recent videos and came here to see how it all started.
Binged it today and enjoyed every minute. You are doing what every guy wishes they could do.
Hey dude!
It isn't meant to be watched like that! Didn't you read the fine print? Binging on Ringworm usually causes melanoma and loose stools.
You wish you could flush your life too and run into the woods with a high school friend and a pile of chainsaws? Sure is satisfying. At least there is no pressure to run marathons or triathlons.
@@survivingringworm2202 so true. That explains a lot, I put the loose stools down to Monday syndrome 🤣. I could give the woods a run for their money, but hey at least we don’t have the screaming kids! But we did move onto 2 acres of our own recently, so I’m with you on the chainsaw fun.
Have you thought about a sand point well? We install them often near you.
This is why I watch and enjoy this channel. There seems to be always something to learn about the human condition.
I'm gonna binge watch the crap outta your channel. I started with your $200 Alaska Mill video. I just found #1.
I’m starting from the beginning.
What a HUGE difference between this video and the current one. Although, I disagree that you should just junk the work you put into this. It does show a contrast but, you are right, this adds to the story. Now onto episode two of the continuing saga!
I’m jealous! Enjoy the dream. I look forward to watching all your episodes.
Just discovered your channel. Came back to the first to watch them all!
Now I know why they call it, Surviving Ringworm. Hopefully, the title doesn't turn off potential viewers. I've been watching this channel for almost a year now. It's a blast! These guys are living their dream. Gotta give them credit and props. Keep the videos coming...they are very interesting and thought-provoking. Amazing how you make things with just your chainsaw in a good way. God Speed
Can't wait to see how different it all looks at the end of the summer!
I dare say it will be paradise. With mud pits and millions of biting bugs and no drinkable water. Ya know, that kind of paradise.
Just found your channel today and I am so thankful. You're a real dude doing what he loves for fun, because YOU want to, THAT is what it's all about in my opinion.
A rainy day, or days, here in Sunny Queensland Australia and after your most recent upload I've decided to go back to the beginning. Love what you do, doing what I can't do at the moment
Thanks for the videos mate.
I have been watching some your latest videos and decided to go back to the beginning and what the progress.
Love your videos.
I don't want to sound all preachy... but ringworm is not a skin disease. It's a fungus much like athlete's foot, and it is treatable. There are a number of ways someone can get it. It rarely spreads below the surface of the skin to cause any serious illness, but those with existing weak immune systems may find it difficult to get rid of the infection. I mean, I've had it before, but I don't now because I treated it. Many will just use an OTC fungal cream and follow some steps for prevention. If someone has a really bad infection, there are Rx strength antifungal pills they can get. Other people are in the school of thought that if you cleanse yourself of parasites, that will cure what ails 'ya. So however you wanna go... but please. Ringworm is not a huge deal!
Ah hah! Finally, after watching the channel for about a year give or take a few months, I finally found video #1 lol
Came back to see #1 after watching #94
Really like The channel my friends
I grew up on a farm in the 50's and 60's ,, all the water we had was collected from roofs,,, we had 3 x 1000 gal tanks
Nice! Was it just used for the crops or did you use it in the house too? Shower, dishes, drinking?
OMG Just found this I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gahhhh!!!! Sooo excited to watch this as it unfolds
Unfold, or fall apart?
Have a great time!
We will!
Two years in and going strong
I just decided to come back and watch the first like 20 episodes (I started after that) and wow, the quality has gone up so much
New favorite Channel thank you glad I found you if I wasn't suffering from COPD I'd sell my house right now and move to New Hampshire or Maine
I just watched your last episode. When you turned off the light, it was what we call country dark. Have you ever been scared really badly by something out there in the dark?
Yeah, it is DARK out here when the moon isn't out!
Not really scared but I get startled out of sleep all the time by a tree crashing down or a damn coyote that starts to howl for all he is worth when only 20 feet from my tent!
My dad saw your dad at he oil change 😂
What does it all mean!!??
I love the premisse. I bought a piece of woods with pretty much the same ideas.. however I am not the outdoorsy type. You might not be up for teaching, but it would be hard not to teach me a trick or two, if you have been outside for that long..
Horse trough/hot tub, proudly made in the USA!
This is amazing. It's a shame you both didn't stay. I had to come back to the start to see how you got where you are today. Lots of people have left Cali for the country life. Back in the day my dad paid just under $750 per acre at a total cost of $27k for 36 acres out here in MS. My wife & our 5 kids live here now surrounded by woods & its a ton of fun. As a gun sanctuary i also have some guns i just could not own in a lot of states so thats pretty good but sad too. Well, have fun.
It's great to have space for your own range, right? A totally different experience...
Horse de-wormer is for COVID-19 not ring worm.
I really thought your channel name was some way of saying your living off grid to escape the pandemic,I thought that is a clever and witty name but nope your really just surviving ring worm. Good show so far, I subscribed.
You guys are nuts! Remember "Safety First!" Maybe I'll be able to come and guest star some day.
dadanator40d safety never first. Coffee before anything. Safety near the end of the day it there is time.
And yes, come visit any time you like.
Love these videos. As a former truck driver, I would run in Michigan quite a bit and got to the UP many times. Crossing the bridge in the wind isn't much fun...lol. Would be perfectly happy disappearing in the UP. How much acreage do you have, and what's the average price per acre up there in your area?
From Michigan starting at #1
Wow! You've come a long way, Ryan. When is Tito going to catch up?
Install a well pump, pretty easy to do yourself, that is once summer comes.
He has mentioned putting in a well and said that the ground was too rocky to hand dig it or drive a well point. The land is not accessible to a drilling rig. Even if a rig could be brought in the cost would be prohibitive for him. So far the limited water supply hasn't been a big enough problem to justify the effort for him to find another solution to what he has done.
where did you get that orange fixed blade knife
When I was 5 or 6 a teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer "a mountain man " well life got in the way turned 60 bought 14 acres in west Tennessee and am finally starting my place i call it "valholler " viking heaven, you fight all day and party all night lol or in my case as im 62 now sleep like the dead lol .
people that go deer hunting in the U.P that live in northern Wisconsin say that there is a wolf den up their somewhere, and there are Moose...any sightings yet? this is the first video on your channel I have watched
Would love to come visit and put in some work/learn. Just moved to the central UP. Looking for 100+ acres with the wife.
I found you channel looking for people who are building a homestead on undeveloped land. I plan to buy land somewhere out west next Summer(2024) and move out to it spring of 2025. I am 41 and realize I need to do this now or I will never do it.
Good luck to you man. Hope it works out
Ok, there has to be a job or two in there somewhere. How do y'all support yourself?
When I was 40, I was married and had a 12 and 16 year old, and still found time to go hunting/camping. Just not full time.
Video number uno
What part of Michigan is this? How many acres and about how much? 🙂
Glycerin
Looks like an Alergy to wool ! Got any wool clothing ? ?
👌👍😉
Tito is crazy. Lol
After the time that's passed have you been able to set a well? If not check out Bushradical - Dave Whipple and his wife Brook are a Michigan based RUclips couple. Living down in Osceola County. And have some property up in the UP and home in Alaska. They have put two wells in by hand in the UP.... Maybe a help to you. Sorry Brook's channel is Girl in the woods. There should be some others on here that could help by doing a video search.
Digging the channel.
Yes and Brooke just drove a well point with a sledge, depends on the water table there
Are you in the lower or upper peninsula?
So how many acres do you all own? And what is the brand of sawmill?
It’s not a big plot but surrounded by national forest so no neighbors!
Granberg makes the mill. Think they have 4 or 5 sizes and this is the smallest.
I’ve decided that it’s been a while and I’m bored so, I’m starting all over again 😁
Unfortunate, that's what i meant... lol... we like to say #OutdoorsIsAlwaysInSeason ... i see that resonates with you guys... outdoors all the time...
Every time you find yourself indoors, all you want is to be back out so why not just stay there?
Ryan were you in the Navy
I live in a tent full time
lol...This first vid inspires me to post a few lyrics by Corb Lund ( check him out)
There are no roads here
There are no signposts
To guide a man thru this dark land
There are no roads here
There is no history
No written law to stay one's hand...
… Well, I see handcarts pulled by desperate settlers bent under the yoke
Fleeing lives of certain serfdom for this new faith of which he spoke
Trekking 'cross the desert with a few intrepid Danes
There's times I still think I can feel the blood of Vikings in my veins...
...There are no roads here
There are no signposts
To guide a man thru this dark land
There are no roads here
There is no history
No written law to stay one's hand...
Awesome.
Just found the channel, great content, but where are the women at?
I know Randy
Sorry to hear that!
Where in Michigan?
UP
Wisconsin
I don’t think you’ve mentioned in any of your videos what you do for work or income. How much do you have to work? I imagine at least some part time work?
I saved and try to live on next to nothing in order to stay out here as long as possible. With a tiny income from youtube, I may just be able to do this indefinitely. My way of living is to spend almost no money so I don't have to waste time make any.
@@survivingringworm2202 Awesome. And the beautiful thing is that by being so frugal and not working everyday, you have the time to build your RUclips channel into a more substantial income all while having a blast!
True enough! I started making these videos for friends and family and was frankly a little surprised when a few months ago other people started watching. It's hardly "income" but it buys beans and chainsaw gas!
Confused as to why yous would even hint at wasting energy building a shelter before a cobbling together a meat smoker-what will you do with all them squirrels?
Squirrels go down nicely raw. But point taken.
Does anyone get a brokeback mountain vibe
Where in Michigan
UP!
Can you stop using the word that replaces the 4 letter word? Love your video but that sounds like the same as the 4 letter word
