I don't use powered subs anymore. I use car audio class D amps in my home theater setup. I run 4 15" subs @ 3000 watts each on 2 planet audio amps, way more accurate than any powered sub.
This is not an acoustic suspension design based on the cutaway view. The acoustic suspension design relies on the stuffing inside the enclosure to control the damping factor, not the mechanical suspension. This is accomplished by forcing the woofer to lose energy by pushing and pulling air between a large number of densely packed fibers whose aggregate surface area is enormous creating friction. The loss of energy is directly related to the velocity of the cone and not the frequency and hence the air being pushed and pulled. This is the b*dx/dt component of Newton's Second law of motion. This law applied to forced oscillation explains how every woofer/enclosure works and why the acoustic suspension principle which should have been called the pneumatic suspension principle works and why this principle is the best design. Still, within its limits this seems like a good value but should be crossed over at a very low frequency based on its poor performance above 50 to 60 hz. By comparison the Teledyne Acoustic Research AR9, my reference speaker, a 4 way design uses two opposing 12" side firing woofers crossed over at 200 hz with an 18 db per octave (3rd order) crossover to an 8" acoustic suspension lower midrange used as a woofer in designs like AR4x which operates up to 1.5 khz. This exploits the research by Roy Allison in both coupling the woofer to the room and eliminating the 200 hz suckout. The AR woofers are damped to Q=0.5 and a -3d point unequalized at 28 hz. My spectrum analyzer for what it's worth shows output down to 4 hz, the limit of its measurement. It's a real room shaker.
@@markfischer3626to try and absorb all the bass frequencies via densely packed fiber is akin to infinite baffle/dipole woofer setup leading to very poor transient response/loss of bass tightness. Mechanical restoring force is absolutely needed for good transient response with properly sized bass reflex and even better for sealed enclosures with a QTC of around 0.7.
@andymack8178 It's just not true. Bass reflex woofers are like organ pipes or horn instruments in that at the resonance frequency air moves easily through the port. Half an octave above and below it's much harder. This is why the system resonant frequency is the effective lower limit of its useful response falling off at 24 dB per octave which is not equalizable. Acoustic Suspension speakers with a system Q of 0.707, critical da.ping falls off at 12 dB per octave which is equalizable. Infinite baffle drivers rely on their mechanical suspension for k and damping.
My system uses balanced cables throughout so i would not rule out this subwoofer but it makes allot of us balanced guys irritated when manufacturers dont use balanced ins and outs. It doesn't add that much to the final product cost. I would pay another hundred bucks to have balanced connections. 🤟
This 12" Speedwoofer subwoofer is literally the biggest piece of CRAP 12" subwoofer I have ever seen !! From 31.5 Hz to 125 Hz you are only getting 108 db on the CEA measurements . That is horiible !! Very very very low output from 31.5 to 125 Hz ! This Speedwoofer 12S is a piece of crap !! Why would someone buy this crappy subwoofer ? 108db from 31.5 to 125 Hz is HORRIBLE!! I mean the SVS PB2000 Pro - you can find that on sale on Ebay all the time - $1,099 sub that they put on sale for $849 on Ebay - $849 delivered - so only $50 more than the Speedwoofer 12S...and the SVS PB2000Pro does 113 db from 31.5 to 125 HZ. 5 db more output from 31.5 to 125 HZ. Buy the SVS PB2000 Pro for $50 more and get 5 db more output !!
The Speedwoofer 10s is still $450 shipped and an incredible deal. You can't expect the 12s to not cost more considering it has a 12" driver, larger cabinet, and more powerful amp.
16 Hz? who measured that and where? 16Hz wavelength is 70 FEET LONG!! Do you or anyone else have a 70 foot listening space? The lowest Hz of any speaker is determined by the size of the room NOT what some company tells me. Most claims are BS. I build and design my own speakers and subs and I have extensive measuring equipment to see what I am hearing. I designed 2 dual 12" subs built to the golden ratio and the drivers are diametrically opposed so little vibration and even less harmonic distortion, and even when placed in the corners of my room the lowest frequency I can obtain is about 20 Hz measured by my Velodyne SMS and I have a large listening area and an open house design. Just using some common sense and measuring equipment and READING.
Wow, congrats on making one of the dumbest posts on our channel. By your logic, you can't have deep bass in a car. My theater room is 25ft long yet my measured bass response is 7hz at -3dB. We actually measured the RSL both outdoor groundplane and in-room and both sets of measurements disprove your faulty logic.
Agreed with Gene, by this logic my tiny home theatre room shouldn't have bass under 60hz. How about headphones ?????? Plus, the Velodyne SMS measurement system is way way below current technology

Did you not pay attention to the video? 4:31 addresses that concern. I made sure to make it a point to avoid this very pointless comment.
edge of tomorrowat the start, that’s not even part of the movie. it’s just a lame sine wave 🤦🏻🤦🏻 so it’s pointless
Shane nit picking?
I don't use powered subs anymore. I use car audio class D amps in my home theater setup. I run 4 15" subs @ 3000 watts each on 2 planet audio amps, way more accurate than any powered sub.
Lol 12v amps in home environment. 3kwatts at 12V, good luck my friend.
@@Audioholics on 100amp circuit, on 20v power supplies
@@Audioholics been working flawlessly for years
@@jankof76 you run your subs on a 100A circuit? Damn. I guess if you have no concern for your power bill then go for it
This is not an acoustic suspension design based on the cutaway view.
Nobody claimed this was an acoustic suspension enclosure.
@@Audioholics I know. Just saying that damping is controlled by the mechanical suspension. It could have been better.
@@markfischer3626 I'm sorry Mark, you just don't have a clear understanding of what you're talking about. Everything I said is absolutely true.
My system uses balanced cables throughout so i would not rule out this subwoofer but it makes allot of us balanced guys irritated when manufacturers dont use balanced ins and outs. It doesn't add that much to the final product cost. I would pay another hundred bucks to have balanced connections. 🤟
Most people wouldn’t though, and that’s why they don’t.
Yeah i feel you man 😭 or for people with PC home studios. Most studio subs dont even go that low at a decent cost
Ah im a 2 channel only guy has to peace out
This 12" Speedwoofer subwoofer is literally the biggest piece of CRAP 12" subwoofer I have ever seen !!
No disrespect, but I'm not the biggest fan of these Shane review videos
Taking shots at PSA huh 😂
What started out as a decent speedwoofer price wise for under 500 $ is now overpriced, talk about price gouging!!!
Can I use this 12 s subwoofer for dj use ??
Does anyone have experience with both the Arendal 1961 1v and the Rsl speedwoofer 12? They are roughly the same size and power and both have the same extension spec. I already have an Arendal I just 🥹want to know would it be a significant upgrade. This extra money is burning a hole in my pocket.🥹
No experience with either, but I think the 1961 1V is the more premium product. More premium build quality and more features. Performance wise they are probably very close.
