If you still play this game what system are you playing on! The one reason I love this game is for the online play! I am still unlocking titles for my various characters! and it’s a lot of fun!
To be honest DOA has the best looks then soul caliber 6, then Tekken 7. FGC know this. The bad thing for this series was the microtransactions, the amount of money to buy all costumes was just disgusting. Majority of fgc underestimated this series. DOA had slicker smoother movement and flow compared to janky tekken. I found the smooth of DOA similar to ironic movement of soul caliber 6. Which I have always championed that Harada needs to stop this janky stupid down down and up up in tekken. We had smooth movement in soul caliber for years. Tekken reminds me of mortal kombat. Both got janky movement. One for 2D and one for 3D. Anyone knows street fighter 5 and in general street fighter series has probably the smoothiest movement, other 2D honourable mentions are Under the night in birth, skullgirls, blazblue, Mk games and some guilty gear games are both janky and smooth. Other smooth 2D titles are Them fighting Herds, Arcana Hearts, Nitro Blasterz, Million Arthur.
@@MuhammadAli-xw4yc Well I sent my PSN to you! I also love what you had to say one day I will buy more costumes for my DOA6 characters Hitomi is my top favorite the controls for DOA5LR and DOA6 for very fun! I enjoy learning each character moves. SFV and SF6 is also fun! it’s just fun to learn like for example blocking by passing the back arrow on the control pad it’s just fun, I was really disappointed with MK1! I have the game but I didn’t play it that much! I was really disappointed that some of the best characters to me did not return like Cassie Cage and Sonya! 😕 I can see why SF6 defeated MK1 for fighting games of the year I believe it was. I also play both Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur VI as well.
@lyxard_7 Nice I hope this does happen, no matter how old these DOA games are I still love playing them especially DOALR and DOA6 and others with the online play.
And Tekken 7 was far from a cutting-edge game even when it came out. Plus DOA always used to be a graphical powerhouse. Just think of what they were able to do on the original Xbox of all things with DOA3.
@@beetheimmortal + just think of what they were able to do on the Dreamcast of all things w/ DOA2 😁 I was about 12 when I first played in DC and that was the moment I turned my attention from RC cars to *T&A* 🤭
Honestly, as much as I love DoA5, I feel like DoA5 Vanilla went the same way. It was boring and just didn't catch my attention, but then Tecmo announced DoA5 Ultimate with new mechanics, characters and costumes. I bought that game day 1 and loved it. Tecmo then announced DoA5 Last Round for next generation with even more characters, new mechanics and costumes. That was the best DoA game to me. I really feel like they should do DoA6 Ultimate.
I agree, there is potential. The base game really turned me off with the absence of 2v2 mode and making us pay agai for characters who were already DLC in DOA5.
Regarding the DLC practices. The amount of costume DLC is one thing, but where they really crossed the line is when they introduced Premium Tickets, which you also had to buy with real money which were used only to CHANGE A CHARACTER'S HAIR COLOUR!!!😡
@@RicochetForce At first yes. They did patch it later so you only had to pay once and change hair colour any time you wanted for free after purchase. However, the point is we shouldn't have been charged for something as menial as hair colour in the first place.
I don't even mind the dlc outfit because there was 1k wroth of them and they look amazing so I happily gave them 7$ for 7 outfits and then 6 I didn't even enjoy the game to play pass 3 days
i really like DOA and i wish they made a full remake of the series just to make the story better and the monetization not as toxic as this this game deserves a lot more care than it gets
I adore the Dead or Alive series and I personally enjoyed DOA6 (minus the terrible story). I don't mind the lack of sexualisation in DOA6, but what I hate is the hypocrisy in how Soul Calibur can have Ivy, her default BDSM outfit and it's a respected fighting franchise, but for some reason, DOAs sexualisation is a step too far. I hate that the franchise is unable to be taken seriously because of its sexualisation and how the fans dropped it because the devs wanted to try to make it more respected. I could rant for days about DOAs unfair treatment. It's such a strong fighter and the series deserves better.
DOA has to work extra hard because it’s the only franchise that has a volleyball spin off with jiggle physics. Those other games do not, but I agree with you. Why should other games get a pass and this franchise gets the short end of the stick?
Tbf, soul calibur exist in a different time period. They can kinda get away with that kind of stuff. Also, I enjoy seeing blood and battle damage for the first time. Actually made d oh a feel more serious. Only wish the big wigs at KOEI TURD-MO actually gave a shit about the fighting version of DOA instead of that Hentai bullshit.
I agree with the perspective on both series' as a whole. Lot of hypocrisy from fans. That being said, the DOA devs haven't always taken their characters seriously which is part of why they have that reputation. Ivy may have giant boobs but she was always treated like a meaningful character, rather than a dress up doll.
I honestly said the same thing, I respected them for trying to be taken more seriously. But that doesn't mean that the people who were used to the sexual aspect- and enjoying it- would support it. So...yeah I get it.
@@ubergamer2010 I never felt the characters in DOA aren't taken seriously. Kasumi, Nyotengu, and Ayane are amazing, with Kasumi being one of my favorite videogame characters of all time
It's a pitty because I joined the series on DOA6, and I think its an amazing game. There are people still playing it on Steam, not many, but they exist.
I love the Dead or Alive series, but i'mma be honest for anybody who wants to get into the series just play 5LR, 4 or 2. DOA6 kinda messed up, gameplay wise with the new meter mechanic, losing some of the depth the game had. It does make it easier for newcomers to jump in, but DOA has always been an easy game to pick up and play imo. The stages are the worst in the series, besides the memorial stage. Also, the whole grind for new costumes isn't very great either. The best thing 6 did was in its online lobbies, some of the best lobbies I've used in a fighter imo. Also Tamaki and Deigo are cool. EDIT: P.S. Good job on the video Khange, I highly recommend going back to DOA5 LR or 2 if you ever do DOA again. Those two games are considered the best in the series by most.
Tbh you cant say DOA is easy to get into and recommend DOA 2 in the same breath 😂 I still pop it in my dreamcast every now and again and that game was paiiiiiiinfull in against bots
Gotta disagree with the Memorial Stage, I think it's the worst. It's just a lifeless mish mash of previous stages and pretty much just lowers the chances of those stages included in Memorial reappearing for the game (at least that's what I thought when the game was still being supported).
I pray that no one buys all the costumes for this or DOA5 lol. But fr tho, I honestly love the way they handled costumes in DOA5LR. The game has ALOT of dlc sure, but it's all optional at the end of the day. Not to mention if you actually wanted new costumes for you characters, you can get them for free by playing through arcade mode a few times. I've gotten like 5 or 6 costumes on my main just from playing arcade mode the same amount of times (doesn't even matter what difficulty lol). All and all I just hope this franchise doesn't stay dead like all the other 3d fighters. Tekken eating WAY too good with it being the only 3d fighter still pumping out content lol.
Tecmo committed the same mistake that so many other publishers made in the early 2010's when the games industry was enjoying mainstream attention. They attempted to cast a wide net to try and appeal to everyone at once. While there are cases of this working out (finnancially) you're more likely to drive away your core audience that appreciated the unique aspects of your product, the curious newcomers wanting to experience the unique quirks will be dissapointed and the ones who the series already didn't appeal to will still not bother due to the brand's reputation.
I'll eventually give the game a shot as I do genuinely enjoy the gameplay of the series, but in all honesty, If I do, it'll be with a hook handed discount since I severely disapprove of the monetization method. As opposed to DOA5 wich I still play once in a blue moon to this day after buying all the character and 1 of the costume packs (although I eventually smuggled the rest years later since the prices and amount was ridiculous. and for some never explained reason the cloth destruction was never implemented on PC. only through mods can you get them to work and it will not have the tear effect particles like on console)
Na that's a dumb approach. As a developer you need to balance between attracting a new audience and respecting the old and dedicated one. Alienating both though is a sure way to lose rep and money.
@@falconeshield "attracting a new audience" is the hard part to sus out. Attracting a new audience could come from stream lining or utilizing popular aspects or mechanics. It's also possible to attract that new audience by doing nothing different and let word of mouth bring them in. IT DOES NOT come from trying to satisfy the lowest common denominator.
@@ninjahedgehog5 If you don't satisfy your existing fan base the game gets a bad reputation, which was actually what killed DOA6. DOA6 is an incredible game, but it's just not as good as DOA5 LR. The stages are not as fun, they reduced costume customization and took away customization from old resold DLC costumes, they took away many other features, they took away winning animations even though the animations they used were all from DOA5, if you want to play online you have to wait in the online menu instead of receiving challenges while playing or practicing which killed online activity in my opinion, and the break hold system and other changes in the gameplay were not popular with expert players. If you played DOA5 LR, then you were disappointed by DOA6. DOA6 could not make players want to abandon DOA5LR. That's why it died. And based on the sales strategy they used for DOA5, I suspect that Team Ninja was probably holding out just to sell old features later piece by piece or in an "Ultimate" and "Last Round" edition, which is insulting. Even though DOA6 may be one of the greatest games you'll ever play, your new game has to be better overall than your last game, or it's going to be deemed a bad game.
Fun fact: Yohei Shimbori the head guy for DOA5/6 is now the Producer and Assistant Director of Tekken 8. Also in defense of DOA 6, iirc it announced in 2017 and comes out in 2019. Had its support continued, they could add more stages, tagteam, characters etc. But bad press of hair colours dlc with already bad reputation, peoples were waiting to jump on them. Tbh the price for individual costume is very fair, if you compare to example SF or MK. On top of that most character already got up to12 FREE costumes that most people don't see. Obviously Shimbori taken the responsibility and resigned. I always thought to myself, why other fg can get away but if DOA does it, peoples will kick it till its not moving..
Why is ESports and sexualized characters at odds? And I don’t see the issue with how the chrcters look with their main outfits from DOA5. I don’t get it, what’s offensive about it? Is society so uptight? You have bikini outfits in tekken and street fighter which are way too weird when fighting. Bikini outfits in DOA at least match the beach scene so it at least is fitting. I loved gameplay of DOA, I hate how it got unfairly buried by players on release. The gameplay was so much fun!
@@spacewargamer4181 Haha "shameful". I think the only thing shameful was how much they charged. But then, why would anyone be upset about revealing outfits? Just dont get them. Weird. Has nothing to do with how good the game is.
@@neonpop80 Yeah, making every skin for your characters to show their panties every time is not shamefull at all right? Is just make them look like s-- dolls and erase any seriousness that the game had, lmao The default costumes are ok, they were always there, but when they started to appeal to every fetish possible things went too far. Like the nurse costumes, wtf. I don't give two fuc about what they charged for them(except for the stupid price of the base game and characters) because yeah, you can just not buy them, but the problem is the image that they give when a player search for the game and the first thing that they see is a DLC to see Marie Rose in a bikini. They also can be seen in online matches used by rival players even if you don't own them, so they are still a problem even if you don't buy them and thats one of the elefants in the room. Imagine the reaction of someone if I play in a public place and the game decide to put me agains a naked girl with only red tape to cover his more intimate parts like if she is a chistmash gift, that could happen in DoA5 for example. You would be taking the risk to be seen as a perv or even a pedo in public just by playing It online. The game identity was murdered and the devs turned It on basically an eroge since the costumes DLCs of DoA5 arrived, thats a fact. DoA6 also died when It started to go in the same direction with the DLC than 5, now the series is dead thanks to the coomers.
@@spacewargamer4181 Lol. Why would that reflect poorly on you? It's fan service for little boys who get aroused by that. It only reflects on them. Also Tekken has basiaclly naked outfits. Bottom line, it's a game and it's not seroious, it's silly. And I like my silly DoA including its ridiculously silly story modes. It's just fun. But I think that's Japanese humor and the West take sexuality very seriously. Whatever happened to Benny Hill?! lol!
Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation is alive and well what the hell are you talking about? In fact VV makes a ton of profit. Dead or Alive just decided to ditch the "fighting" portion of the game. Since hardly anyone cares about it.
@@diasflac0g many of us long for the fighting portion back, the sexiness was just a cherry on top. With the fighting game revival happening right now, I'd love to see a DOA fighter comeback
Break Hold (hereafter “BH”) ruined the game. BH essentially took away the Triangle System, which has always been DOA’s core. BH made Hold specialists weak since meter building was too fast and reads weren’t required to Hold one’s way out of trouble. Since one could just mash out BH almost whenever they wanted, combos were just: Critical Stun -> immediate launcher -> air filler -> Bound -> Close Hit combo ender. That not only made combos extremely limited and boring, but it created a game where characters with bad Close Hit (e.g. Rachel) or a bad Bound (e.g. Bayman) were unplayable garbage. Characters like Eliot that had ways to deal with BH were automatically SS-Tier (Eliot is damn near tantamount to launch Leroy in T7).
I liked 5 more because you had to earn that Critical Burst, but if you did- your opponent was completely defenseless. No bs-ing out of their punishment
To be honest, DOA5 was probably the maximum that could be changed about the original DOA mechanics for them to still work. I think 5 was already a bit overcomplicated compared to 1-4, but it still "felt" like DOA at the end of the day.
I was really into DOA 2 back in the day. I really wanted to get back into the series one of these days. But, it’s kinda sad how they monetized this game
This game was so criminally under rated. Picked it up on a whim in 2021 because it was on sale, I had only heard negative things but was shocked at the sheer enjoyment I had at every step through the title. I honestly felt like it was more fun than Tekken 7. Destroyed by a hate brigade mad about paid cosmetic DLC.
Wrong, people gone mad because the New director act all high and might. He said deal with what he did in this game. DOA is always been niche games. The hardcore fans has been along with this Franchise since 1997. But bertraying original fan with niche games, its called suicide. Who gonna support this game? You think mainstream cares about cute japanese female character talking about cute stuff in fighting games? Come on, there's tekken and mortal kombat better for fighting games. DOA IS FANSERVICE games always been. This think happened with Resident Evil 6 where there's no longer about survival horror
The 2D fighter landscape is full of choices ranging from Street Fighter, to Mortal Kombat, to Guilty Gear, to Granblue Fantasy VS. But the 3D fighter landscape had been diminished to whatever Namco is cooking up. Depressing, really…
@@ELJUGOrig Si, pero extraño cuando había muchos opciones para escoger: Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, Bloody Roar, Naruto: Clash of Ninja, etc.
I won tournaments for this series, 4 and 5. Wrote to Tecmo and Team Ninja about Shimboris toxic attitude to older fans in promoting 6. Was basically told to deal with it or walk. So I did. Won't be coming back, ever.
While stripping away the sexualization didn't effect the gameplay, but it did strip away some of DoA's personality. I can't stand it when prudes bash the DoA series because its women wearing more revealing clothes, even though its women are more interesting than most other fighting characters. Women can wear whatever clothes they want and there's nothing wrong with showing off skin. The eSports snobs who can't look pass that probably still live in their parents' basements
The hypocrisy is when games like Street Fighter, KoF, and SoulCalibur has just as much fanservice. But the FGC give those a pass. Seriously, SC6 hornier than DOA6.
@claycowan1989 I can't speak for everyone but for myself, I think it's a mixture of OVERLY sexualizing the game and emphasizing it in their marketing that's made me uninterested in it. They had a dumb fucking jiggle physics slider in one of the games for fucks sake! I'm not completely against cheesecake fan service in fighting games since I bought and used to heavily play Skullgirls (still like it too despite the "censorship"). The way DOA had done fan service though just made it seem kinda gross and immature. That isn't prevalent in pretty much any other mainstream fighter to that extent. It detracts from any legitimacy the game could possibly have in a competitive sense. All just my opinion though.
@djhero0071 I don't really see the problem let them be horny btw Soul caliber players on Pc found away to make there characters naked never seen that in Doa on pc
I honestly don't mind the sexualisation, to be honest. Sure, it's silly and very 'fanservicey', but DOA was never meant to be a serious game in the first place, so it's fine
Huh... Hearing Nyotengu in English for the first time made me feel a certain way... So I knew that I had heard her before somewhere. She's Mad Moxxi! :D
Since Tomonobu Itagaki was no longer there, the series was doomed to collapse. That's exactly what you can see wonderfully in this game. no sex sells. Gambling and DLC game and not a game that is supposed to be fun for you. Tomonobu Itagaki was strongly against DLC politics and other forms of pure money-making.
Meh. The series sucks with or without him. This is karma for him, as when Tekken 4 went bad in 2001 despite it getting the SF3 treatment in later years, when that game got unfairly panned by critics for its dark turn, Tomo actually agreed with them and made a big deal out of it.
Haha well then you aren't very informed on what Itagaki is doing now or his shady practices with Devil's Third. Currently he's working on an NFT mobile game/block chain. So you can eat those words haha!
@@cartoonvideos5 I really liked the game his team made after (perhaps without him, or he was just a "special thanks" senior. idk). Samurai Jack: Battle through Time. Sure, it didn't reach heights of Ninja Gaiden 1-2, but it was still super enjoyable and one of better games during that year. However, I didn't like Wanted Dead though. But SamJack was just a hidden gem, imo.
@@kurisuchiinathecrocodile333 Never played it, but the game positive reviews, it was probably mostly carried by the Samurai Jack brand name and got a good budget for that. However both Devil's Third and Wanted: Dead were a blunder. It seems like all of Wanted: Dead's budget was wasted on actors instead of gameplay.
DoA is actually very good. Graphics are beautiful. Arcade is fun, story mode is bland though. I look forward for future DoA7 with lots more improvements (I hope)
Fun facts: - 7 in Japanese is 七 (sichi or nana). - Nanami (the most popular DOA character in Japan nowadays) is called 73 for this reason (7= なな and 3 = みっ). - Nanami is probably the the most profitable character Koei Tecmo has by now. Japanese people spend crazy money on her swimsuits and she is the cover of almost every new DOAXVV event. Conclusion: if there ever is a DOA7 soon, it's unlikely that developers would lose the opportunity.
I picked up the trial version today. I wasn't expecting much but am actually having fun playing it. Im playing Tekken 8 and SF6 to and the DoA seems fun and easy to learn. Attractive Chars made me notice the Game but it's pretty fun. The sheer amount of dlc is crazy. One of the Season Passes is $90+. Be nice if they did a ultimate version that includes pretty much everything for a reasonable price. I've read the base game goes on sale for around $25 so i might grab it when that happens again. Great video. Thanks
As a more hardcore fan of the series that has put a lot of time into DOA, i'll say why DOA 6 put the series into limbo. So DOA 6 kind of split the fanbase and a LOT of people just flat out quit playing. The meter system is pretty controversial depending on who you ask. The newer players that got into the series with 6 usually aren't bothered by meter as much as the veteran players. Sidesteps are wayyy stronger than in 5 and can easily be abused. It also just changes the way has to be played and the ways you can pressure your opponents in a negative way. Break holds just shouldn't exist. You gain meter way too quick and makes it so you don't really have to know matchups when you can just press one button to get out of stun and are left plus for some reason as well. Stagger Escape was also removed in 6 making the stun game more dull and removing more depth from the game. You might think 6 has good characters but you don't realise just how many characters we lost in the transition to 6. Leon, Gen Fu, Ein, the 4 VF characters, Alpha 152 and Naotora. There was no reason to remove Leon, Ein and Gen Fu. The only reason they aren't in 6 is because they are male characters but they have all been in the series since 2 or earlier and have small move lists. They were just being lazy here and tried to get as much money out of 6 as possible. The costume selection is also pathetic compared to 5, I never cared about fan service but for those that did it also has less to offer for them. Lobby system sucks and will kick you out once the host leaves instead of transferring to someone else like in 5 and doesn't have anything like 4s cool lobby system where you could move in a waiting room interacting with people either. Story mode is horrible and they didn't even bother giving Bayman a bound like every other character lol. 5 last round was such a complete experience you can't go from that and release a rushed product missing tons of features and expect everyone to love it.
Helena has been a long time favorite, but Sarah Bryant was a very close second. I was disappointed that they didn't give the VF characters a bit more life, recording new voice lines and giving them a little bit of story. But still, great stuff.
My experience with DoA was with 5 Ultimate on PS3, and even though I was only fighting with bots, I had so much fun with it! I could spend my entire day playing nothing but that game and craving for some more the next day, I ranked it pretty high in my favorite fighting games of all time. It's such a shame though about what happens, but honestly FGC community wasn't really helping it either. The hypocrisy about DoA "nothing but jiggles and physic" when the very same person have been honking very loudly to Cammy's SF6 pose. Talk about pot calling the kettle black... DoA deserved some respect man, and unfortunately they won't ever get it now that's the mess is seemingly cannot be undone. A fine choice of sound you got there friend 6:54. Ikebukuro Undergound is the best SMT IV OST in my opinion, next to Tokyo and Yamato Perpetual Reactor. Good taste mate!
The worst thing about DOA is how hardly anything has changed. 99% of the changes the series has received to date are in adding characters and improving the graphics. Gameplay wise, it has remained virtually intact.
Dead or Alive was the video game equivalent of playing with dolls. You have a base figure, dress it up however you want, than throw them all together in the most fantastical way possible. DOA6 intentionally distancing itself from that sealed its fate.
How did it distance its self from that? It has more outfits than any of the past games if I remember correctly. And they're just as lewd as ever. Only thing that sucks is the insane prices and how hard it is to unlock stuff.
@indevidualbeing6488 Look at the trailers. Look at the interviews saying how they are reevaluating the franchise and adjusting it to be more appropriate for a wider demographic. Look at the follow-up interviews saying how their words were misconstrued and how the lewd elements were only being heavily downplayed and not removed entirely. Look at it all be for naught as esports events still decided not to accept it into their fold due to being a "brand risk."
@@theotherjared9824interesting. I loved the gameplay of franchise and saw no issue with the main outfits. Tekken and SF had worse ones on customization. It’s really the framing of it and perception that’s now the issue with the game. I really miss it now. I even liked the story which was so absurd and childishly bad it was hilarious and super fun! I want more of it. It’s silly in it’s own way and I think it’s great
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this video! I'm kind of a newer DOA fan. I had played DOA:D as a highschooler but didn't get into the series "for real" until last year when I replayed DOA:D (and loved it!) and started going through the game series. But even back when it was first announced, as someone who was still mostly unfamiliar with DOA, seeing DOA6 try to pivot to the esports scene was always insane to me. The Outfit Points thing in DOA6 is equally insane. I don't mind the "esports safe" new outfits for the characters by any means, but this system just sounds like they're almost punishing people for trying to unlock an outfit they want. Still, DOA6 looks like some decent fun and I'm still excited to play it after I finish working through DOA4 (and eventually after digging into DOA5LR). Also, Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate is my favorite entry so far! 💪
Here's my take on the situation after watching the video and reading the comments. Basically, besides there being too much DLC a lot of people didn't like the breaker mechanic and of course it wasn't lewd enough. However, I feel like people overlook two very important aspects. First is that the breaker mechanic could only be used once per match if I remember correctly. The meter didn't build fast enough for you to do it a second time unless you hit 3 or more rounds. Honestly, most people forgot about it when I played them, but I think a lot of people are making a bigger deal out of one mechanic that a vast majority didn't use or didn't use wisely. I don't personally have a problem with DOA 6's new mechanic and don't really get the hubbub as to why it's so disliked. It's a comeback mechanic and a lot of games have something similar. Is it cheap? Sure. Most of them are though. Secondly on the DLC. Everyone likes to complain about the DLC just because it's listed on Steam. Here's the problem with that. Steam does not take into consideration season passes or costume packs. Therefore, everything is lumped in there. You're not actually getting an accurate assessment of how much you're actually paying for when just looking at the lump sum because it doesn't account for duplicates of stuff you already have. I have almost all the DLC for DOA 6 and most of it I bought on Black Friday or some other sale when it was cheaper, never paying full price except for maybe one of them. Currently I'm missing 5 packs at 20 bucks a piece. Sure that's $100 for everything, but it currently beats SF6 and their $100 for everything model. Let's be real. The reason fighting games get the shaft on stuff like this is because developers can no longer be cheap in video games. Developers use to be able to make their games super cheap, as in difficult, in order for people to be able to obtain costumes and stuff. With how whiny the FGC is today and the fact that they're trying to reach wider audiences. Developers can't do that as much. It's gotta be balanced to hell for the FGC or they'll complain and if it doesn't appeal to newbies they'll complain. You're basically at a no win situation anymore. Also, developers use to push back on practices like monetizing the holy hell out of a game. Nowadays they just go along with it. Because they know that money is the end goal for a product.
DOA6 is my favorite DOA game in terms of PURE gameplay. I hope that with the next game, they build on what I love about it, but add more content in. I wasn't massively upset by the loss of tag, but some people were, so I understand that. Also, as someone who played it online a lot, and was at least decent, I would like some better balancing. Hayabusa, Jann Lee, and Ayane were insufferable, while characters like Brad, Marie, Honaka, and Bayman could only suffer. I also like Marie, Honaka, Tamaki, and NiCo as playable characters. Diego sucks though. Also, I'd like to see more male characters added in, cool ones. TL:DR DOA6 is good, but VERY flawed. I want DOA7.
Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate was the best one ever made. Dead or Alive 3 missed the mark purely because Tecmo messed with the controls and made the execution too easy. They also messed with the voices in a way I didn't like either. DOA 2 is the best, doesn't really matter which version you go for, I had both the Dreamcast and the XBox versions.
I'm glad Doa isn't completely forsaken lol burnt out on 7 finally been waiting for 6 for awhile but idk if it's ever coming but I hope and hope they improve Brad Wong this time around they nerfed him to the ground in 6 but I still make him work
DO4 was the peak of this series... they should have stuck with the same fighting system as that. Not having a tag mode just makes this game obsolete because you can just play DOA5LR which is better.
It is perfectly fine to critize the DOA series, but I've always found the total pricing of all DLC to be an incredibly weird argument. It is 20-30 costumes for every character and why in the world would someone buy every single costume for every single character when there are so many. Do people use the same argument to not play games like League of Legends, where it costs over 9000$ to buy every skin? I do consider DoA 5LR to be a better game than 6, but I really enjoy the addition of the side-step and new moves 6 has. It finally felt possible to play a character with slower jabs without being incredibly proficent at the game, and Tina's new grapplers are easily among the coolest moves she has across the series. I did end up playing a lot of ranked in DoA6, even more so than 5, so it will always hold a soft spot for me. I believe DoA 6 would have had problems regardless of its reception given that online stores such as PSN would hide the game from regular listings, making it so people had to search for Dead or Alive to find it. The hair color thing definitly didn't help though.
Dead Or Alive is the best fighting game ever that has beautiful women, revealing costumes, and jiggle physics that are the best here then any other fighting game. Dead Or Alive also have the best fighting mechanics as well that a beginner or expert can pick up. Dead Or Alive 5 was better then 6.
I've been talking about how good DOA is and it's unfair treatment in the fgc (in terms of sexualization) for YEARS now. I would argue that DOA's triangle system and combo system is the most balanced out of ANY 3D fighter and even many 2D fighters. However I cannot forgive the devs for DOA6... Aside from the atrocious DLC practices, DOA5LR is the best fighting game PERIOD in my opinion and I can't even enjoy it anymore because the devs wanted to kill the series. Terrible netcode and thousands of dollars in DLC among other issues... Smh these morons...
About the story, Team Ninja just can't do good storytelling. They once had a chance to fix and update DOA 1-4 story in DOA Dimension but they didn't do much if at all. The lore and the world they live in is interesting but past DOA4 the story barely moving at all, final boss is reused, and character/relationship development is almost non-existent. Maybe Ayane is more friendly to Kasumi now but to what degree it's not really clear. And they don't have the guts to kill major (playable) character for shock or twist. Last time we saw Lisa in DOA5 she was buried under burning rubble but she was perfectly fine in DOA6 (I love Lisa/Mariposa btw, that's just example of Team Ninja's backpedalling). And it's not exclusive to DOA either, I think Ninja Gaiden's story or at least the storytelling is not very good. For their newer titles I've only played a bit of Nioh, not yet the sequel or Wo Long but I never heard anyone praise those games as masterpiece in writing either.
i can't say i am a long fan of series, but surely i played almost every title in series, while i can accept that doa 6 might could have done more, i can't say it deserve its current state, it is still a game that every fighting game fan should test, whether be it to her/him liking is matter of perspective.....but i hope next game could bring fans to series
Hello, I'm thinking about buying the dead or alive but I don't know whether to buy the 6 in deluxe which is 20 dollars or better the 5 for a slightly higher price, which is better?
Dead or Alive used to be my favorite video game series and its really a shame how much this series jumped the shark with all of the DLC splurging. I just bought DOA6 for like $15 on Steam, so that alone was worth it. Wasn't gonna pay full price for eye candy in 2024.
I’m fine with the abundance of dlc costumes. $2000 is a lot especially since it’s all available to purchase, but when you think of games like Fortnite with an item shop, there’s probably far more than $2000 worth of skins available for purchase. It’s all cosmetic, the total cost doesn’t matter because most players won’t get all of them, but DOA having all cosmetics and prices in a list like that does visualise the issue. But if Fortnite did the same, I can see people causing a fuss, but rn no one even thinks about it because it’s in an item shop rotation, they only see like 5-10 skins at a time.
I would love to see a DOA7 I am a huge fan of this game series in general Hitomi is my favorite character, this video made a excellent point as it relates to the various costumes I still play this game but don’t have half the costume that was shown in the video in my game, all this is is to make a profit from the from the online store, I might purchase more costume someday.
The very worst thing about DOA6 is that we all were really hyped for it and not only it felt a poor sequel to DOA5, but also and even worse, it killed unborn DOA7. Also, all those DLCs were reused DOA5's DLCs. As a DOA fan since DOA1, DOA6 was the worst of bad corporate praxis
Despite of DOA6, Dead or Alive series is a great fighting games franchise and we are hoping to see a new DOA title in the next years, hopefully for the current gen. I would like to point out that I don't think that the lack of tag team battles (2 vs 2) in DOA6 is because of the new engine implemented but it was due to budget constrains which made the game not as solid as the others.
… Imagine if Nintendo pulls a Bayonetta and actually saves DOA. Maybe position it as another mature franchise of theirs, alongside having a traditional fighting game that isn’t Smash. They already helped out with Fatal Frame 4 and 5, so they can do so again with DOA.
Actually i got the game for around 52 bucks ....10 bucks for the Deluxe including phase 5, 2 bucks fir Nyotengu, 10 bucks each for season passes 1-4 ..... all hail cheap key sellers. Only thing not included is the revival series Costume packs wich is about 7 or so dlc packs
What I like in DoA5 - you can beat your opponent some time after the round ends. While in DoA6 final punch is always a final punch. Nevertheless DoA6 still has more enjoyable fighting system then MK or Tekken. I used to play MK and Tekken a lot but when I tried DoA - it was an instant blast!
How come you have talked about Tekken 4 and King of fighters 4 but not dead or alive 4? I would love to see if that game is worth playing over Dead or alive 3 before the sale ends by September 3rd on Xbox
Yeah, It practically is. Yohei Shimbori who was the director of DOA4/DOA5/DOA6 created these systems, and he went on to work as the assistant director on Tekken 8. A lot of Tekken 8's new systems are from Dead or Alive and many feel that Tekken 8 feels the most DOA a Tekken game has ever felt. This reviewer didn't mention it because it's higher level stuff he probably wasn't aware of, but break blow is also like Heat, in that you're able to cancel it and use it for combo extenders. People do a combo, activate break blow, cancel break blow into a launcher, keep comboing, etc., juggles for days.
doa is a game that has worsened in the last few years, because at the beginning it was focused on fighting like other games such as tekken or street fighter, but then they created erotic games to take pictures and other nonsense, the only good thing about doa is the amount of material in r34.
I made this video after coming back from a fighting game major where I did A LOT of screaming so if my voice sounds scuffed at times, that's why lol
If you still play this game what system are you playing on! The one reason I love this game is for the online play! I am still unlocking titles for my various characters! and it’s a lot of fun!
I'm playing on ps4 and still loving it. I prefer DOA 5 it's just the full package. DOA just looks better.

“I think it looks better than Tekken 7…”
It should at minimum: Tekken 7 was originally released four years before DoA6.
And Tekken 7 was far from a cutting-edge game even when it came out. Plus DOA always used to be a graphical powerhouse. Just think of what they were able to do on the original Xbox of all things with DOA3.

I really feel like they should do DoA6 Ultimate.
doa5 vanilla was fun. It was way different, a lot of oki systems changed when they made ultimate
I agree, there is potential. The base game really turned me off with the absence of 2v2 mode and making us pay agai for characters who were already DLC in DOA5.
DOA5 Vanilla > DOA6 in everything, the game was fun and complete, DLC costumes were optional and we had tag team fights, I take DOA5 all day over 6
Regarding the DLC practices. The amount of costume DLC is one thing, but where they really crossed the line is when they introduced Premium Tickets, which you also had to buy with real money which were used only to CHANGE A CHARACTER'S HAIR COLOUR!!!😡
And you had to buy the fucking tickets every time you wanted to change the goddamn hair. Just putting salt in the wound.
@@RicochetForce At first yes. They did patch it later so you only had to pay once and change hair colour any time you wanted for free after purchase. However, the point is we shouldn't have been charged for something as menial as hair colour in the first place.

Thanks for watching! I really like playing DOA5 LR and DOA2, so I'll get around to those games one day (or maybe even the first DOA!)
Tbh you cant say DOA is easy to get into and recommend DOA 2 in the same breath 😂
I still pop it in my dreamcast every now and again and that game was paiiiiiiinfull in against bots
Gotta disagree with the Memorial Stage, I think it's the worst. It's just a lifeless mish mash of previous stages and pretty much just lowers the chances of those stages included in Memorial reappearing for the game (at least that's what I thought when the game was still being supported).
I love DOA 2 5

Tekken needs competition in the 3D genre. I want to see all my 3D titles thrive especially dead or alive. Hopefully DOA 7 is back to DOA 4 quality.
and Virtua Fighter should come back too.
Doa cant keep up with tekken for decades tho. Virtua Fighter might.
Why would it compete with Tekken when DOA doesn't know what it wants to be. DOA should find itself first before competing with another series.

@@youtubeisracistx NOOOOOOOOO!! (shakes fists at the sky)
I live DOA5LR very much. DOA6 is ~nice, but the way it was never "fully complete" is tragic. It really needed more content.
@@MuseseekerMan oof
That explains a lot.

The default costumes are ok, they were always there, but when they started to appeal to every fetish possible things went too far.

- 7 in Japanese is 七 (sichi or nana).
The one year support window was shockingly short. It's a shame
I miss DoA. Its a freaking shame they said theyd never make another game cuz its "problematic". its BS.
Thanks
Do you wanna boost the online trophies together?
*_Steam sale going on right now for DOA 5 & 6._*
@@davidback2144 KT was contractually bound by Sega for the VF characters to keep their personalities intact and reuse their VF5 audio.
That randomness with unlock-ables is why I stop playing, and is my main problem with games that do this.
They eventually made the unlocks character specific instead of a random costume for a random character
The worst thing about DOA is how hardly anything has changed. 99% of the changes the series has received to date are in adding characters and improving the graphics. Gameplay wise, it has remained virtually intact.
Dead Or Alive 5 was peak
It’s silly in it’s own way and I think it’s great
@@indevidualbeing6488no it doesn’t lol dead or alive 5 had the most costumes
Dolls with a top tier combat system, and animations that were years ahead of its contemporaries
If or when DoA7 or Dead or Alive (reboot) happen. They need to take notes from Dead or Alive 4 and 5, that’s when the game REALLY shined
6:02 Just in case, DOA2 also already had Tag Team Battle Mode.
DOA6, the game that Tecmo-Koei let die. To think that now they are more focused on DOAXVV....
DOA have the best combat in the fighting game genre
Funny, how Tecmo wanted Dead or Alive to be more serious and less lewd, but its biggest cash cow is Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation.
I love this game, can’t wait for 7 to come out.
having such a blast with DOA5LR and DOA6 recently, really solid and fun fighting games
Since i played this game i got hooked by it, i just can't play another fighting games and hope it gets revived.
This is a very fun game. Perfect for both button mashing and more skilled play. The animation and gameplay is very fluid.
DOA 6 is the reason why I hate the FGC in general. To have slept on this game is a sin.
The FGC has always been a joke
This is what Im learning
I got a question everybody wants to know when TF is Kasumi coming home and where's Doa 7

DO4 was the peak of this series... they should have stuck with the same fighting system as that. Not having a tag mode just makes this game obsolete because you can just play DOA5LR which is better.
It’s been 5 years????
The fact that DOA5 lived longer is insane, I like DOA6 more bc of its new fight system and DOA5 bc of its silliness
DOA5 was alright but the series hasn't been the same since 4 and when Itagaki was fired.
On my personal opinión, the Best DoA games for me were 2,3 and 5. Hope we could see some of that quality back again :,(
if anyone wonder why there's almost no DOA promotion. KT already region lock DOA exclusive to asia region only
About the story, Team Ninja just can't do good storytelling.
I would say go for 5, as it's a bit better than 6. Unless you're looking for online play, then go for 6.
But if Fortnite did the same, I can see people causing a fuss, but rn no one even thinks about it because it’s in an item shop rotation, they only see like 5-10 skins at a time.
does anyone know if this game is still active on xbox? Just wondering, thought about getting it on sale
I think this game is freakin great.
I still love playing this game.
Speak for yourself. Fans of the older game who were told to go away were hoping for its demise. Wish granted.
I still like this series better than Tekken or most of other 3d fighters
Despite of DOA6, Dead or Alive series is a great fighting games franchise and we are hoping to see a new DOA title in the next years, hopefully for the current gen. I would like to point out that I don't think that the lack of tag team battles (2 vs 2) in DOA6 is because of the new engine implemented but it was due to budget constrains which made the game not as solid as the others.
Still one of my favourite fighting games. And I like far more Doa over Tekken.
If a new DoA comes out and they are still trying to be “esports friendly” then I’m not buying
with a name like 'WaifuSlayer' i can see why! That's totally fair though, I understand their fan base

Imagine if Nintendo pulls a Bayonetta and actually saves DOA. Maybe position it as another mature franchise of theirs, alongside having a traditional fighting game that isn’t Smash. They already helped out with Fatal Frame 4 and 5, so they can do so again with DOA.
Bro, I just talked about this today, excited what this is about.
Damn i remember coming to school late trying to play the game day one. Almost missed the city bus.
I love Dead or Alive
How’s the online play? Are there folks still on DOA5?
For some reason DOA is the only fighting game I'm ok at. I got my ass beat all day on other fighting games.
How come you have talked about Tekken 4 and King of fighters 4 but not dead or alive 4? I would love to see if that game is worth playing over Dead or alive 3 before the sale ends by September 3rd on Xbox
Because it sucks and it’s literally too hard. Just search up the final boss. If “input reading” was a character, it’d be her. Lol
DoA2, DoA3, DoA5> DoA4 and DoA6
im just a casual player but i really liked this game. The ticket system happening in real time really burned though
break blow sounds like tekken 8 heat gauge
Yeah, It practically is. Yohei Shimbori who was the director of DOA4/DOA5/DOA6 created these systems, and he went on to work as the assistant director on Tekken 8. A lot of Tekken 8's new systems are from Dead or Alive and many feel that Tekken 8 feels the most DOA a Tekken game has ever felt. This reviewer didn't mention it because it's higher level stuff he probably wasn't aware of, but break blow is also like Heat, in that you're able to cancel it and use it for combo extenders. People do a combo, activate break blow, cancel break blow into a launcher, keep comboing, etc., juggles for days.
dead or alive deserved better treatment, hope to see it one day
DoA4 is still the best for me. Revolutionized online fighting plus had one of the best special guest character
This game has a lot of potential to be bigger, the problem is that it is very poorly managed and the company's greed ruined everything!
DoA5 was so good I forget DoA6 existed
doa is a game that has worsened in the last few years, because at the beginning it was focused on fighting like other games such as tekken or street fighter, but then they created erotic games to take pictures and other nonsense, the only good thing about doa is the amount of material in r34.
