- The awesome and legendary Red Baron. The Ace of Aces. Der Rote Kampfflieger. Whatever name you know him by, he was the most awesome pilot the world had ever seen and his name lives on today. We tried to fit in as much as we could but we're thinking of doing a follow up video that will include other events from the Red Baron's life. If you would like to see them, please call out what we've missed.
If you like this video please support us on Patreon / yarnhub
We were of course inspired by this awesome @sabaton song • SABATON - The Red Baro...
We're thinking of doing a follow up to this in a month or two as we couldn't fit everything in. Let us know if you think its a good idea and what we should include. Thanks for all the great comments !
Maybe some of his most thrilling duels?
Yarnhub I agree with above, some of the most thrilling battles he has done would be amazing. This video covered his general history and having a video dedicated around what and who he fought would be amazing.
@@asciisuki7002 He only had one real duel. Against Major Lanoe Hawker. Richtofen's main legacy was consolation of Boelcke's initial concepts as well as promotion of aerial development.
Definitely a good idea!
Maybe include his daring signature maneuvers only he was able to pull in his tri-decker, like kicking the rudder and almost ,,drifting" through the air while shooting at passing enemies
Yes absolutely
The thing that I love the most about this story is that when he is shot down, he is not treated like trash, like how you’d expect they would treat an enemy. He was treated with great respect. The amount of skill that he possessed was incredible, and the fact that the enemy was willing to admit that in the end is what makes it so rich. Rest In Peace, Red Baron.
He was buried with full military respect and honour
He has been dead for more than a 100 years or a century

Here's what the Germans thought of Americans in and immediately after WWI.
“I fought in campaigns against the Russian Army, the Serbian Army, the Roumanian Army, the British Army, the French Army, and the American Army. All told in this war I have participated in more than 80 battles. I have found your American Army the most honorable of all our enemies. You have also been the bravest of our enemies and in fact the only ones who have attacked us seriously in this year’s battles. I therefore honor you, and, now that the war is over, I stand ready, for my part, to accept you as a friend.”
-Chief of Staff for General v. Einem, commander of the Third German Army
“The prevailing opinion in Germany before our entry into war, was, that American was a money hunting nation, too engrossed in the hunt of the dollar to produce a strong military force. But since our troops have been in action the opinion has changed, and he says that though Germany is at present a defeated nation, he believes that they would be victors in a war with any nation in the world with the exemption of the United States.”
-Karl Finkl of Bolingen
"The American troops show much more consideration for the private rights of the inhabitants of the village than did the German troops."
-Karl Schramem, Landstrumer of Zermullen

It’s simply amazing how most people know about “The Red Baron” even without knowing who he was or anything about The Great War. He’s such a legend that even people who have no care for history know him as the red biplane fighter ace. That’s a legend if I’ve ever heard one.
its a triplane but ur right

They are just jelly because France had better pilots such as René Fonk, the first air force in service, and also copied the French roundel to make the British one.
Richthofen has also described the French as "tricksters", comparing them to the English "daring rascals". He saw the French as cunning and careful pilots who would try to trick you into a disadvantageous position, while the english daring could in his eyes be described only as stupidity. Basically the foolhardy (and thus more tenacious) English were more pleasant opponents to him than the cunning French.

"To our gallant, and worthy foe"
It's pretty eerie how similar Richthofen's and Billy Bishop's stories are:
- They were initially cavalrymen.
- They WANTED to fight in the air.
- They were observers before being pilots.
- They were underperfoming pilots at first. (You could argue that Bishop was a good shot but a terrible pilot though.)
- They were aces with high victory counts.
No wonder why their encounter with each other ended in a draw; they were some of the greatest aces of the war.
EDIT: I fixed a wording error; it is debatable whether or not they were the greatest aces of the war. However, that is not to say that they were not some of the greatest aces in the war.
@Yuri DeKhed What about Bishop's claims? Even if they are false, can you really deny Bishop's courage?
@Yuri DeKhed Yeah, they both wanted to FIGHT in the AIR. Richthofen may have never became a pilot if he wanted to just fight and chose other options, but that's going into alternative history. Bishop wanted to fight in the air after seeing a Nieuport land in a nearby airfield.
As for the greatest ace part, my bad, my wording. 'They were some of the greatest aces of the war' would have fit better, no? However, we can't deny that they were not some of the greatest aces. There's a reason why Bishop and Richthofen are remembered in today's times over other aces.
@Yuri DeKhed Bishop was a top-ranking ace who was awarded the Victoria Cross. In Toronto, an airport is named after him, "Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport." I find it hard to believe that only a few can name Bishop.
@Yuri DeKhed Ah fuck, just realized what's going on here.

I have studied fighter aircraft my whole life, and I keep
learning more about Richthofen, in my fifties.
After his head injury, he changed. He had alot of trouble
shooting down his last ...And his writing about it all changed.
I can relate. I have a permanent head injury, that changed
me for ever. I went on to learn and do complicated jobs, after.
Two specialists told me tgat it is very rare for someone
with my permanent pain and troubles seeing clearly
(even with 20/10 vision, I could see in the dark), to return to
complicated work. It is little known that flying planes, esp
fighters, was very difficult . They never flew straight, needing
constant controlling, and very easy to lose control. Very
loud, cold, ....All of it was difficult. And fighters never had time off,
unless wounded. Comnand did nit understand how hard it was.
Pilots actually lost thier minds from stress. Capt. Brown
suffered bad from stomach ulcers, and had alot of pain
the day of the Baron's encounter.

than described in a short video. Our youth should learn
from the "old ways".

He really lives up to his reputation. After all, it took so many tries, foes, and chances (whether it's calculated or mere luck) to actually stop him. Even more than a century, people still debate about his last flight. How can you not be marvel by such a man?
@Mustafa Leak He was credited for 80 air combat victories (more than any other pilot of the war) & you think that is not impressive? really?
@Mustafa Leak So your argument is to pull out one of the most decorated French War Heroes to discredit another War Heroes from another country? really? So who is the Childish one here??
Whatever you say ain't gonna blur his feat away.
@Mustafa Leak Look as far as I'm concern ... they were all heroes. About the propaganda you said, so the German & British decided to make a movie about him. The French won't do the same for their heroes and you came here to talk about recognition? look no one here said that the French can't do a movie about their Heroes but they just simply choose not to. If they're not responsible for that then why should you or me or pretty much anybody else care? History recognizes them as heroes and so do i.
If you are not intended to discredit him then choose your word carefully next time because your past comment really sounds like it.
p/s we can't control how one is more famous than the other ok. For example, with people outside of China like us, we certainly know about Zhuge Liang or some general like Guan yu but how many know about Haku ki? (Bai Qui) one of the greatest military general in Chinese history with 37 years of an unbeatable career (of course if we are not counting Sun Tzu into the mix).
So after all, if the French didn't even bother to give their Hero a movie to depict him, why should you or i argue about it?
@Mustafa Leak lol The 2008 movie Red baron about Manfred. So they make a movie about him ... is that a freaking crime to make songs/movies/stories about their heroes??
Some may be more famous than others due to people's work (songs/movies/novels...) it's an inevitable thing that happens all around the world. People choose their own freaking heroes. It's a subjective thing but did you even bother to get that?

Sorry, but I don't see your point. The basic task of history lessons is to explain why the 1st worldwar broke out, who fought whom and what the terrible consequences were, for Germany and for Europe. In history lessons you should be taught about historical contexts, not about the life of a fighter pilot.
@@tjb7284 I agree with that. With one minor objections: the history books always had a little picture and a text about an interesting character from the era right on the outer edge of each page.
So that everybody who was interested enough or bored enough could read it and learn some additional facts. The Red Baron was featured in one of these texts. And I believe this is the proper way to do it. It was completely optional to read this info, but many people in my class had read it anyways.

P.S.: Albeit litle info, I would love to see a video about Yang Kyoungjong from you guys!!
Did he really say „ Kaputt „ as his last word ? If yes then this man really dedicated his heart into this .
He said more, the only word that stood out to the Australians was kaputt, because they didn't speak his language.
It means "Broken" btw
If I was wearing a hat, I would tip my hat to you good sir. You make the best videos on RUclips in my opinion. They are just wonderful and are so detailed and seem to be so carefully thought through. I take a particular interest in WWI and WWII, so I loved this video! It is great to see that even the enemy honored him. Truly great sports. I also very much enjoy the music! It is just fantastic! Well done!
Thanks v much. We don’t often get comments on the music but we put a lot of effort into doing a composition and performance to fit the mood of the videos. Thank you.
Yarnhub I know you don’t. It’s strange: My parents often say that I have a special ear for music and I’ll always have a piece of music stuck in my head, and your efforts here have benefited for you: The music suits the video perfectly! You have done a spectacular job with the choice of music for this video. Well done! I particularly enjoy old music like this one, so great job! Have a great day!
Yarnhub with ur active content like this, i can assure u will come to top IN NO TIME
I like the cover photo for the video. An Albatros. Most people don't know that Germany used many different aircraft throughout the war, not just the Fokker Dr1 used near the end.
This is great animation quality, every time.
Even the enemy has so much respect on him
This is the best video on your channel
I am starting to like this channel even more then simple history! Love the content + keep it up!
Somehow, this makes me like that channel more than Simple History. It's simpler and more lively.
Your videos have great animation and your voice is soothing. Veery very good. Keep up the good work creating these animations.
Der rote Baron ist mein Lieblingsfilm!
I havent seen it yet though, i will see
HIGHER! KING OF THE SKY. HES FLYING TOO FAST, AND HES FLYING TO HIGH! HIGHEER! AN EYE FOR AN EYE. THE LEGEND WILL NEVER DIE!
From SABATON Man and machine and nothing there in between
A flying circus and a man from Prussia
The sky and a plane, this man commands his domain
The western front and all the way to Russia
Death from above, you're under fire
Stained red as blood, he's roaming higher
Born a soldier from the horseback to the skies
That's where the legend will arise
And he's flying
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
First to the scene he is a lethal machine
It's bloody April and the tide is turning
Fire at will it is the thrill of the kill
Four in a day shot down with engines burning
Embrace the fame, red squadron leader
Call out his name, Rote Kampfflieger
In the game to win, a gambler rolls the dice
Eighty allies paid the price
And he's flying
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast, again, he's flying too high
He's flying higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher
Born a soldier from the horseback to the skies
And the legend never dies
And he's flying
And he's flying
And he's flying
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
He is a legend he will always be remembered rip Der Rote Kampfflieger aka the red baron 🙏🙏😭😭
Aka Red fighterpilot
I think an another Sabaton + YarnHub music video is needed for this one too. The Nightwitches and No Bullets Fly were 2 great masterpieces however this one "The Red Baron" needs an animated music video too. Like the Sabaton said "Embrace the flame, Red Squadron Leader". And still great job YarnHub I learned many things from this channel and Sabaton songs.
HIGHER, THE KING OF THE SKY
HE'S FLYING TOO FAST AND HE'S FLYING TO HIGH
HIGHER, AN EYE FOR AN EYE
THE LEGEND WILL NEVER DIE...
Swedish metal band Sabaton has a song called "The red baron" on their latest album, GO listen to it!!

The lesson scene was SOOOO good. Omg the music and visuals gave me chills
Allied: to our gallant and worthy foe
Red Baron: kaputt
As always... great video
"Kaputt"
- Red Baron
kaputt is broken in german
AND HES FLYING HIGHER, THE KING OF THE SKIES! HE'S FLYING TOO FAST AND HE'S FLYING TOO HIGH!
That ending is an example of what honor should look like. No matter what side you are on.
Those enemies are even better than the people that say GG after losing BIG respect to those guys
Worth the wait the animation is great!
from 2d animation all the way to 3d masterpieces wow
That intro, i commend you so much for that....
Interesting fact :
Hermann Goering, the future Reichsmarschall and second highest in Nazi Germany commanded the same squadron as the Red Baron and became an ace himself
What I love most about this war story is how, after he was shot down, he wasn’t treated like an enemy to be discarded but with great respect. Despite being on opposing sides, they honored the incredible skill he possessed, recognizing his mastery even in death. That willingness to respect an adversary adds so much depth and humanity to the story. Rest in peace, Red Baron.
When you unlock the paint bucket tool
Just today he uploaded a remake that looks 10 times better, but the script is almost the same
Press F for RESPECT
Ok gotta admit that was a good one
I can't believe i share a birthday with The Red Baron that is so awesome!
You know someone is the baddest of badasses in war when they inspire respect....
ON ALL SIDES
