Yeah I’m a southern American but when I’m around my mother who is also Scottish she adapts to me talking or I sorta develop ab accent lol it’s weird how the voice works.
If you read Ferguson's autobiography, also came out before Capaldi was cast as The Doctor, he says Capaldi always had an otherworldly presence. It feels like he was meant to be the doctor from the start lol
"Are you still married to Elaine?" "They don't know who Elaine is either! She's a wonderful, wonderful-" "They're probably smart enough to have figure out that Elaine is your *wife*, Pete!" These two are gold
I think interrupting guests who are trying to plug things was a part of Craig's rebellion against the late night format. He was trying to make his interactions with guests more human.
That and also his whole bit was that this was a show in the middle of the night that nobody was watching...the majority of America was asleep and Craig characterized his audience as insomniacs, burnouts, addicts, unemployed, anyone on the fringes of society. The joke was that his show was useless for advertising and it was a waste of their time to even try to promote anything on this show. As far as Craig was concerned they were screaming into the void.
@@dlh7989so funny how after that he's still held as one of the best late night hosts to do it (usually ya hear the list go carson, letterman and ferguson or conan taking third)
I know I'm like 4-5 years late with commenting, but this interview is absolutely great because you can feel the history between them. It's like when I meet friends that I grew up with: They make you laugh like no one else can.
Agree! I come to watch this every so often because, well, I love both of them and I love Scottish people/things in general, but also because I adore the chemistry between them. Oh yes. Peter Capaldi's first film, so we have Local Hero to thank for everything he has done since then. Aaand music by Mark Knopfler to boot - it was actually also his first soundtrack, so everyone who loves Princess Bride actually also has Local Hero to thank for the existence of the Princess Bride soundtrack. 😊
I love that film. My family on my dads side is from Scotland (Glasgow)Mmy cousin was friends with the character who rode the motorcycle throughout the movie. Ill have to revisit that.
weird to say but it may be coincidental that the lining of his jacket kinda looks like the 3rd incarnation of the Doctor, Jon Pertwee. Peter Capaldi even has the same type of look as well!💥
Honestly the best late night interview i've ever seen. they are just joking with each other, remembering the stories and laughing like two old friends. i have no idea what they are promoting but im having the best time of my life
@@joansmith69okay, I love Colin Baker as The Doctor but even I have to admit he doesn’t crack the Top 5 and only argument you could make that he did would have to be based on his Big Finish performances rather than on screen lmao
That is such a mood, you trip acid one time and then the rest of your life you're not sure if you ever left the acid trip... hilarious, yet scarily accurate! 🤣🤣😂😂
Capaldi is considered the "old" Doctor of the modern era but just a few years earlier he was still looking just about middle aged. Craig jokes about being too old to drum, ironic that now probably the average rock and roll band is older than he was then.
I loved the mind freak that Craig had at the end of his introduction. Especially since I had just watched "Last Christmas", Peter Capaldi's first Christmas special as the Twelfth Doctor. Perfect!
When Peter was announced as the 12th Doctor, I was sure he would be a guest a few times but no go. Maybe because in 2014 he was ramping up as the Doctor while Craig was winding down on Late Late.
@@dlxmarks I was wondering if maybe Craig was off the air by the time of the announcement? I can't imagine why else he wouldn't have been on. Craig loves Doctor Who so much AND he has a personal connection with Peter Capaldi, it would have been perfect!
@@sally-annecleveland6425 Capaldi was announced as the 12th Doctor on August 4, 2013 and his first full episode aired the next year on August 23, 2014. god its so awesome to see them reminiscing about their past together, seeing how far they've come in their own right. Capaldi was incredible in amazing british show The thick of it (which the movie he is promoting is a sequel of sorts).
Brilliant. Craig played late night by his own rules. I'm going to bring old friends on my show and just have casual, incredibly funny conversations like we're having lunch at a diner. He's a comedic genius.
Michael Sheen made a lot of appearances on Craig's show to promote his projects, and they looked like they were having a ball, so maybe Michael wasn't too worried about Craig's behavior.
Is it just me, or do I get a "Bowie vibe" from Capaldi? I never quite "got" what it was about David Bowie that drove people to him when he was alive. I watched Labyrinth not that long ago when it was released in a deluxe Blu ray release. It had been decades since I watched it. NOW, I kind of "get it."
Hope we get more episodes of him as Seamus in big mouth when I first heard his voice well I knew who he was lol but since my mom is also Scottish I didn’t need subtitles to understand what he was saying lol. She’s from Glasgow been in the USA since the 70’s and she came here to the state of South Carolina and has been since the 70s she is a police woman and a dang good one too? People always ask me how I understand the Scottish accent so well then they hear my mother talk she says “aye lassie I need you to do this for me okay I’ll be back later.” Meaning your doing it even if you’ve got broken legs lol. I never had one (knock wood) a broken bone? But means get up and do as she says or there we’ll be h**l to pay lol.

That really would be some time travelling since In the Loop was released the year Tenant was doing his specials. But hey, if anyone can do it it's the Doctor 😁
Peter Capaldi : "...I can't sign and I'm not musical..." Ya know, the same guy who played guitar as the doctor and had an episode where the intro was him just going hard on the guitar.
Love how Craig's scottish accent get stronger when he starts to talk to Peter

Holy shit! I just watched this and didn't notice that until I saw your comment.
Peter seemed to have a stronger accent than usual during this interview. He didn't have this strong of one while doing Doctor Who.
This is 2009 and yet capaldi is dressed as the 12th doctor. He really is a time traveller
For real.
He's been the Doctor his whole life. They just finally made it official.
If you read Ferguson's autobiography, also came out before Capaldi was cast as The Doctor, he says Capaldi always had an otherworldly presence. It feels like he was meant to be the doctor from the start lol
It's like Moffat and company said we want the Doctor to be Peter Capaldi. Not Peter Capaldi should be the doctor. He is probably my favorite Doctor
The truth is, Peter wanted to play The Doctor since he was young. He's always been a fan of the show.
Loved that he was having a bad trip and went to Craig for help....and found him tripping too
I can vouch that this happens a lot when your friends go through a dropping acid phase
"Are you still married to Elaine?"
"They don't know who Elaine is either! She's a wonderful, wonderful-"
"They're probably smart enough to have figure out that Elaine is your *wife*, Pete!"

I love that as soon as someone, (or himself), mentions his wife, Peter goes full Gomez Addams about her.

Capaldi keeps trying to bring the audience into the conversation and Craig is like "nah screw em". :D
What's funny is Jenna Coleman does the same thing when she visited. I think it's a British "oh shit there's lots of quiet yanks" out there thing.
And that's why we love Craig 😂

Picking it up during the next Criterion sale. I'm looking forward to finally seeing it. Denis Lawson aka Wedge from Star Wars is also in it.
