Some say that Tennant’s 10th Doctor is the best Doctor but for me it is always gonna be Capaldi. He has serious moments, funny moments, subtle moments and the best ending speech of all the Doctors. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Tennant during his run, hell I love all the Doctors but Capaldi is the defining Doctor for me.
I think tenant hit the sweet spot for when he was in the show Out of the actors who've been on the show since the reboot all of them could have done his role (with slight changes) tennet and by extention rt Davis were in the show during its return to reliance at least in the uk
I have never met ANYONE who says that 'David Tennant' is the best Dr .....never ! . . . . .. .but plenty agree that Tom Baker is best , followed by Jon Pertwee and also Peter Cushing was good in the movies . . . . . . .
Same with myself. I love all the doctors I've seen (Hartnell definitely starts more iffy, but he picks up more once Susan leaves, I feel), but Tennant is less my favorite Doctor and more like the baseline that sort of sets my mental image for what the Doctor should be like, and that necessarily invites comparisons that aren't always favorable, because nothing as much stands out of his incarnation, which I feel is just solid across the board.
I just completed my first rewatch of nuwho and yeah capaldi is my fav doctor, Tennant comes very close obv but capaldi just kills every scene I love it
Capaldi had the issue of poor writing during a good chunk of his run imo. Tennant was great as the Doctor but also had the benefit of being the Doctor during the golden age of the show. Whereas Capaldi gave an excellent performance despite everything, he was the Doctor when the show was on a unfortunate downturn.
SamuraiMarmoset the problem with is that it is not a paradox. Paradox requires a breakdown of causality. In Bootstrap Paradox causality is not broken, it's just circular instead of linear.
Personally my favorite doctor will always be David tenant, but I do believe that peter Capaldi acted the shit out of the doctor and definitely deserved the role.
He was genuinely amazing as The Doctor! Too many people see him as “too old” just like too many people saw Matt Smith as “too young”! Nobody will ever be happy with who plays The Doctor
and this is new who, for classic who, there is one, the great one, Tom Baker! Strong, athletic, relatively young ( the actor was in his 30/40 I think), those crazy eyes, iconic look. And acting ability.
@@galarstar052 My point still stands, as both criticisms exist. A lot of people would complain about Capaldi being a great actor who was let down by "bad writing", but there was still people who judged him for being old, same thing happens with Jodie. One thing doesn't take away the other.
Easily the best doctor in my opinion. So so brilliant, he is way too underrated for his skills and talent. I think Jenna even once said that he hardly had to do more than one take. He really is great
Charlie's Journey Tennant is worse. Most people like him because hes the first nuWho doctor who got more than 1 season and many people’s first doctor. The rtd era however was full of cliches, even tho it had some seriously good characterwork. Martha was annoying. When you hear that 4 was originally have a companion named penny who doctor has crush on, the era falls apart
A bit gutted that you didnt include the moment where he sees his reflection, gets where he got his face from then announces what its for and screams to the heavens. But aside from that, great choices!
Doctor Who is easily one of the best things Capaldi has ever acted in, and probably ever will be. His ultimate love, joy and passion towards the show shine through every moment that he lived as the Twelfth Doctor. And the less memorable act but still a great episode nonetheless in Pompeii, of course!

One of my favorite moments that still sticks with me today is "and you'll still be gone" from Heaven Sent. The look of hopelessness in his eyes just breaks my heart.

@@MrPOKER725 Basically, if someone betrays you and you therefore don't want anything to do with that person anymore, that person didn't mean much to you in the first place. But if someone betrays you and you really care for them, you will look beyond their betrayal and forgive them. ;)
@@danielpearson7506 No it's not as that simple as that. The Doctor knows that Clara couldn't ask him to use his TARDIS to fix Danny Pink's death, because he would quite clearly say "no" because of what has happened previously (when Rose went back to see her Dad and tried to save him). He knew that she would try to do something that reckless to force his hand. He was betrayed that she simply didn't ask, but he cares for her and her happiness like all of his companions. I have friends like that in life, and those words resonated with me. Just because a friend has turned their back on me doesn't mean I will instantly turn my back on them in their time of need. I won't forgive them, or maybe I will but I won't forget. But when you are friends (sometimes the best of friends) you will always do whatever it takes to protect them. That is me to my friends. As I say, those words from the Doctor personified and resonated with me, they made situations like that make sense.
With how much Jodie and Chibnal have split the Who Community, Capaldi's final scene on the battlefield was the perfect end for the fans that stopped watching. Eccleston to David, David to matt. Matt to Capaldi. Those were all obvious continues, but Capaldi's seemed so Final. (don't reply with hate to Jodie, or hate to the people who don't like Jodie. This is just me saying his final send off, was so great as a final send off. The show could of ended there, and it would of been a good ending to the show.)
I DONT HATE JODIE. shes a decent actress. my hate is directed at chibnall and the people who allowed his crap stories to be produced and aired. for me, capaldi was the last doctor...
it's like moffat knew that Chibnall and the ultra feminazis where coming for the show and if he announced that he was going to stay then they'd simply meetoo him and lie about hi and claim rape or some of their usual bullshit. and he knew that chibnall was gonna nose dive the show so he wanted to make his final episode one where the REAL fans could clock out and call it a day with the entire show at least until an actual showrunner comes around and boots chibnall out the studio and retcons then entire timeless child storyline out of exsistence.

Say what you want about 'Lie of the Land' and the trailer bait fake-regeneration scene, but that scene between The Doctor and Bill is perfectly acted by both Capaldi and Mackie.
Same, but I originally thought Matt Smith was the best doctor (Tenant is also absolutely amazing too, of course) but yeah, Capaldi is by far the best doctor there is
The Doctor's speech about being scared being a superpower is honestly one of the best moments in all of Doctor Who. Everyone wishes they knew how to comfort a child that's terrified of something, and Capaldi probably gave one of the best ideas for comfort I've ever heard
I don't like the scene between the Doctor, Danny and Clara because Clara knows he was ready to destroy his own planet to stop a war, she knows he was not in the back giving orders and why he hate soldiers and yet she say nothing when Danny is provoking the Doctor, she's even taking Danny side.
I don’t either for the same reason but you could look it cynically as davos does “The man who abhors violence never carrying a gun, but this is your truth doctor you take ordinary people and fashion them into weapons”
I believe "do you think i care for you so little, that betraying me would make a difference" is one of the best phrases in the history of media. It's just perfect.
There are so many moments from Capaldi's tenure as The Doctor that are incredible. One I think which sometimes goes overlooked is his conversation with Davros. It's a full circle acceptance since the beginning of the Capaldi Doctor who was unsure if he was a good man, and it really is two estranged old almost-friends talking to one another after so much time apart. You can tell the Doctor truly cares about Davros, and strangely enough you can see that Davros does as well. And then it also outlines in a few short words the Doctor's modus operandi: "Compassion, then" "Always" "It grows strong and fierce in you, like a Cancer" "I hope so" "It will kill you, in the end" "I wouldn't die of anything else" I love that so much, and I'm glad this compilation put it in there.
i will say peter’s era really pushed the show to places it has never or rarely been and that makes my rewatch of his run specifically so much more exciting for me!
18:10 “Do you want to help me, or stand here stomping your foot? Because let me tell you something. I’m 2000 years old I have never had the time for the luxury of outrage” such an outstanding line, it truly speaks to so many aspects of the doctor and making a difference
Putting aside how amazing an actor capaldi is, the whole premise of his doctor was great. A doctor who wanted to mature and be older, yet still has the mind of a child. It is genuinely an amazing setup.
12 always makes me cry so hard. I started at 11 because I stepped in on my brother watching doctor who, so the regen was surprising, and I was disappointed, but when I finished watching capaldi I couldn't stop crying.
Your right he did things 12 told him not to like when he was shouting sir right after 12 told him not to and when 12 got rightfully angry and told him to get out he acted like he had done nothing at all. And even after all that 12 still tried to help him because losing him upset Clara.
Especially since all of Danny's points were wrong. He thought that the Doctor was the sort of man to send his soldiers into die. However, he's the one who tries to take a bullet, but his friends jump in front of him. At the timeline, he wanted to die, but Clara jumped in despite his direct wishes.
AshesToDust exactly he doesn’t know the first thing about the doctor yet assumes he must be a horrible person because he got over and although not fully slightly forgave himself for galifray since he now knows they aren’t all dead. But since Danny only had a few years of the death of one innocent on his mind he can’t believe that someone could get over what he believes to be the deaths of millions even after hundreds of years. He doesn’t understand that everything the doctor does is an apology for what happened.
Hands down, the finest actor ever to play the Doctor. And I say that with nothing but the deepest love and respect for all the other Doctors. But none of them - not Tennant, not Baker, none of them - commanded a scene or delivered a layered performance like Peter Capaldi.
Peter will always be my favourite doctor and Clara will always be my favourite companion. They are so underrated and hated for nothing....not every Tardis squad has to be happy, cheerfull and have a romantic relationship....

Whenever the other doctors moved up in ego or sunk to the depths of doubt, just remember that the twelfth stayed there, he sat like a rock, and persevered. The twelfth doctor was a good man.
He really was a good man. Without hope, without witness, and without reward he was willing to do what was right because it was kind

I think tenant hit the sweet spot for when he was in the show
Out of the actors who've been on the show since the reboot all of them could have done his role (with slight changes) tennet and by extention rt Davis were in the show during its return to reliance at least in the uk
9:25 Really?! You give us the whole "Bootstrap Paradox" buildup, and you cut out the AWESOME guitar chords?!
What a fantastic actor, the people who abandoned Doctor Who because the actor was "old" didn't deserve him.
They forgot the Dr started with an old man. If anything this shows how fare he's come

And Jodie Whittaker as "too female"
And a few years after they’ll always look back and say they loved them. People never appreciate what they have until it’s gone.
@@ZzMattizZ the problem with Jodie is that her stories suck and the acting direction is obviously shit.
@@galarstar052 My point still stands, as both criticisms exist. A lot of people would complain about Capaldi being a great actor who was let down by "bad writing", but there was still people who judged him for being old, same thing happens with Jodie. One thing doesn't take away the other.
If 10 and 11 were the bombastic highs of Dr. Who, then 12 is the solemn low note that forces some real perspective on the world.
Easily the best doctor in my opinion. So so brilliant, he is way too underrated for his skills and talent. I think Jenna even once said that he hardly had to do more than one take. He really is great

Doctor Who is easily one of the best things Capaldi has ever acted in, and probably ever will be. His ultimate love, joy and passion towards the show shine through every moment that he lived as the Twelfth Doctor. @@MrPOKER725 Basically, if someone betrays you and you therefore don't want anything to do with that person anymore, that person didn't mean much to you in the first place. But if someone betrays you and you really care for them, you will look beyond their betrayal and forgive them.
;)
so youre saying you think betrayal should have no consequences
Let me ask you, could you be like that.
With how much Jodie and Chibnal have split the Who Community, Capaldi's final scene on the battlefield was the perfect end for the fans that stopped watching. Eccleston to David, David to matt. Matt to Capaldi. Those were all obvious continues, but Capaldi's seemed so Final.

and if he announced that he was going to stay then they'd simply meetoo him and lie about hi and claim rape or some of their usual bullshit. and he knew that chibnall was gonna nose dive the show so he wanted to make his final episode one where the REAL fans could clock out and call it a day with the entire show at least until an actual showrunner comes around and boots chibnall out the studio and retcons then entire timeless child storyline out of exsistence.

I’d have to disagree with you there. Peter Capaldi is a good actor but hardly the best.
And then it also outlines in a few short words the Doctor's modus operandi:
"Compassion, then"
"Always"
"It grows strong and fierce in you, like a Cancer"
"I hope so"
"It will kill you, in the end"
"I wouldn't die of anything else"
I love that so much, and I'm glad this compilation put it in there.
I want more serious discussions of paradoxes like the bootstrap scene. Really good way to introduce a concept.
He will always be my Doctor. Nothing against the others, I like them too. But Capaldi was and always will be my favourite

18:10 “Do you want to help me, or stand here stomping your foot? Because let me tell you something. I’m 2000 years old I have never had the time for the luxury of outrage” such an outstanding line, it truly speaks to so many aspects of the doctor and making a difference
Even though this Doctor at the beginning didnt like hugs, this version is the one that I would want to hug the most.
"... a little bird comes ... " The way he said it, the music, it was a perfect moment. He WAS the bird, and I felt like standing and cheering.
12 will always be my favourite Doctor, Peter is an incredible actor and he doesn't get enough love for how amazing he is.

He instigated that anger out of the doctor on purpose to manipulate Clara into believing him
SpookySpeks There is difference between good character and a character whos good
Your right he did things 12 told him not to like when he was shouting sir right after 12 told him not to and when 12 got rightfully angry and told him to get out he acted like he had done nothing at all. And even after all that 12 still tried to help him because losing him upset Clara.
Agree
Honestly, I never thought I’d say this when he started (especially because of Tennant and Smith) but Peter Capaldi is actually my favorite Doctor.
I have to agree, but ecclestone will always be number 1 for me.
