William Hartnell's speech always breaks my heart. It was his health that forced him to retire from the show, and you can feel his sadness about it. It's so tragic and yet he tries to be uplifting. All the regenerations are so sad, but I think his gets to me the most.
But that speech isn't from his regeneration at all. That's from when he leaves Susan behind in The Dalek Invasion of Earth.

Only a couple of Doctors have (arguably) died/regenerated through getting old (or "wearing a bit thin", as they put it). The others usually have something terrible happen to them,which causes them to regenerate in order to avoid death.
The series has been going (with a few pauses here and there) since 1963. The b/w Doctor saying "One day I shall get back" was the First Doctor (William Hartnell). It was Hartnell's declining health that led the shows producers to come up with the idea of regeneration, in order for the popular show to continue even though the lead actor needed to leave. In this way,the series is theoretically never ending (fingers crossed!)

Oh our hearts break every time we get that connection to the doctor, when we have a favorite etc. It usually takes a few episode to warm up to the new one. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.

only the first 3 actors who played the doctor are dead (excluding john hurt who played a doctor for the 50th anniversary special) but the remaining 10 actors are alive
The best description of what's happening is the 9th doctor's ( the one with the buzz cut and leather jacket). Regeneration is a ( sometimes drastic) change, but not a death. It's a way of cheating death. When the 11th doctor regenerated into the 12th his companion Clara, despite having seen it happen , struggles to accept he's still the Doctor which is why he asks her to "just see me".

I would never ask you to watch Dr. Who simply because it is a serious investment of your time...even if it's just the newer seasons. He's an alien who regenerates when he dies. I honestly think it's the best character recreation for keeping an original character but when there's been issues with the actor or it's just time for the next Doctor. I swear, I have a love for this character. Just live him. You would really love this. Really. There's a top 5/10 of the most emotional Dr. Who moments that makes me cry every time. But for all the drama of those moments...there's a ton of funny stuff happening. Occasionally, it's punny stuff that you have to be quick to catch, but mostly it's obviously funny but not like Benny Hill. It's a family friendly show too. And it has awards for how long-lasting and sounds, etc because the show pioneered the sounds of things. There's a ½ hour show on Dr. Who's BTS stuff.
Change is permanent, once he’s changed he can never change back. However Tennant has returned to play the 14th for reasons other people can explain better then I can

With this show nothing is certain and lots can happen. But one thing for sure, we get attached to the Doctor no matter which regeneration.

When the doctor is dying they change into a new body where they have a new personality basically become a whole new person but their memories remain and principles so they basically the same person In a new body with a new approach

Usually every new face is different. The 50th anniversary had a neat cameo that implied you could go back to a previous face.
Doctor 1 died of old age, 2 was forced to change as a condition of exile, 3 was radiation poisoning, 4 fell to his death, 5 was poisoned, 6 hit his head, 7 was shot, 8 died in a crash and drank a custom regen potion, war was old age, 9 was killed by raw time vortex energy, 10 was radiation poisoning again, 11 was old age again, 12 was killed by cybermen. 13 and 14 both got hit by a big laser.
Hartnell regenerated due to old age, Troughton was forced to regenerate as a punishment, Pertwee from radiation poisoning, Baker fell off a radio telescope, Davidson from "spectrox toxemia" (poisoned in other words), Baker #2 in an attack on the TARDIS, McCoy was shot and "died" on the operating table, McGann in the time war after seeking help to regenerate into a warrior, who then survived long enough to regenerate from old age, Ecclestone got exposed to time vortex energy, Tenant, radiation poisoning, Smith old age, Capaldi was shot by a cyberman, Whiteker was also shot, as was Tenant again (yes, she regenerated back into David Tenant) and he'd was shot and regenerated into Gatwa...

You're not supposed to have repeats or regressions ("supposed to" being very keywords). David Tennant has arguably been three doctors: 10, 10.5, and 14

There is a sort of disconnect between incarnations, as the previous personalities get subsumed. There is some resurfacing of errant memories after a period of everything coming together as the new incarnation starts to click together. Strong connections and associations stay through the jumbled up period and refix. Some more immediately than others. Sometimes when two incarnations collide, and since Time Lords have a latent telepathic ability, there is a sort of 'system update' between the two - or how many collide. This update is inconsistent as to whether it is retained and dependent upon the circumstance of the meeting. Like incomparable tempos colliding, one is out of rhythm with the other.

That is the answer.
David is the tenth, Matt is the eleventh, Peter is the twelfth, and the lady is the thirteenth. To regenerate they have to die so old age could be a factor but being murdered is most likely the reason a doctor will regenerate.
Except they are immortal, they can't die of old age. We see this with Peter, when he was trapped in a loop for 2 billion years, and I think it was Matt that had a version of himself being 400 years older and looking the exact same.
There is only 1 instance were we see the Doctor 'Age', but there was no explanation of why. We don't even get a timeframe of how old he was. And that was the episode Matt regenerated, by getting a new set of regenerations. Before that was retconned with the dumb bitch doctor.

I have a simple answer to all your questions about Doctor Who: The show is not for you.
(Meaning most books/movies make more sense if you start at the beginning. Or, for an on-going show like this, at least the beginning of a story. If you don't have the patience to let it unfold naturally, don't watch a montage and then ask the whole thing be explained so you don't have to bother watching it. You're curious, but not really interested. And nothing wrong with that. It's not for everyone.)
No. Regeneration doesn't work like that they can't switch back and forth when their body is damaged beyond repair or dies of old age that's it that's the end of that body then they change into a new person going forth the modern writers don't fully understand the concept of regneration they play with it too much like just recently Jodie Whittaker had regenerated back into David Tennant which i'm personally not happy with because usually old Doctors don't usually come back.
David is here for only three Specials. Then we will have Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th. There is something wrong with his regeneration.

jodie whittaker changed back into david tennant in the most recent episode back in the winter, so I guess they can change back.

David tenant is back as the docter for 3 special episode he was the 10th docter and now is the 14 docter b4 the 15th docter ncuti gatwa take over at Christmas. The best docter were David Tennant matt Smith and Christopher Eccleston the worst docter in my opinion jodie whittaker that is just my opinion people
