whooaaa....I don't know how I missed this episode! This is absolutely awesome!! While living in Panama and Key West, I was able to do some sailing with people that owned sailboats. That was a lot of fun!! Oh...and fun fact (well, it wasn't fun then), barnacle scrapping was my first job ever. I'd skin dive under the sailboats at the Balboa Yacht club in Panama and scrap barnacles. It was in the Pacific Ocean; and at the mouth of the Panama Canal. I'd have a tether line tied to the boat, start up current, and just relax the slack to get further along on the hull. In the early 80s, I'd make $100 for 2ish hours of labor. Great money then! Heck...it isn't bad for now either.
I remember my career manager was mentioning that I need to move from Ft Bragg NC as I had been there for 5 years. I told him to give me a month so I could take my wife down to Tampa to show her that area. I also arranged, through a friend's father, to look at a catamaran, a mono hull, and a power boat to consider living on. After we looked at all 3, we also went inland slightly to a neighborhood that a lot of the military folks recommend. Well...for the price of any of those boats, you could get 2000 sq feet and a pool with a screened cover. The boat concept instantly sunk. Fortunately.....or unfortunately, I started doing deployment after deployment.....and my career manager did not mess with me by making us move. So, we scored 15 years at Ft Bragg, on that tour.
Anyways....yes....I wouldn't mind doing the sailing life. But, it isn't for everybody; including my other half. So....I can watch youtubes about it occasionally.
    Have a great weekend!
Edited for another story I forgot:
In 2008ish, a buddy and i considered going into a partnership on a 40ft sailboat. Since I was still on active duty, i'd be higher on the priority list for a slip at the Boca Chica NAS marina by Key West. This led to that, and we scrapped that idea. Fast forward to about 2016, one of the guys I was contracting with overseas had a power boat at that same marina. A hurricane came....and after the storm cleared, his boat was completely missing for about 3 weeks. Eventually, they found it completely sunk in the mangrove swamp over a mile away. So....I'm kind of glad I did not have a sail boat there. Plus, I lived in NC at the time; I couldn't just drive down there and move the sailboat at a moments notice.

Wow, your sailing adventures and barnacle-scraping gig sound like incredible experiences! Your stories always add such a unique perspective. It's awesome that you considered living on a boat, and I totally get the appeal of a pool and 2000 sq feet. Sailing life isn't for everyone, but it's fantastic you can enjoy it vicariously through RUclips. Thanks for sharing these gems, and have a fantastic weekend too! 🌊⛵😊

New viewer. This sure brings back memories. I was the navigator on a sailboat owned by an airline couple that retired and relocated to Marina Palmira in La Paz via Cabo. They bought me an airline ticket to Tijuana after the trip and I walked across the border. What an adventure. I'm considering Mexico or Southern Italy after I finish caring for an aging parent in Florida. I no longer have a boat but have an old 34' aluminum travel trailer in storage in California that may be good for Baja.

Hi, that’s a wonderful act taking care of your parents. All the best with whichever decision you make ‘Mexico or Italy’. FYI, you could always setup your trailer here in Mexico.

@@rvseeingyou The trailer in Mexico was something I'd considered. They traveled in an RV through Mexico in the 1970's and told me of the campos in Baja.
