Doing my first half marathon race tomorrow. I’m at a slightly different level… being a 42 year old father of 5 who’s only been running for 2 years. Looking forward to seeing the results of all your training.
@@nta_gaming123 I started out at Parkrun. Had to walk 3x and finished in 31 mins. I can run sub 22 now for 5k and am trying to get sub 20 before I get too old! Still make parkrun almost every Saturday unless we’re doing another race. Just need to get out there and get started.
@@MakoTheFrog well, didn’t go how I wanted. First 10k was fine, but the heat caught up with me and the last 4km was an absolute battle, trying to stay away from heat stroke. Temp peaked at 90F (32C). Crazy enough, we had snow last weekend so it was insanely hot for this time of year here in Canada. And there was no shade. I’ll probably wait until there’s a cool weekend and go knock out a quick half marathon on my own, should get to the low 1:50s. Oddest thing is that my legs feel great, probably because the training has been great, just terrible conditions to run quickly.
@masonnovak7258 that's not true. An hour of running is below a thousand calories when you're new. Then factor in that your body adapts to using less energy for the same activity if done repitively. I run just barely over two hours every morning and don't say that I burn soo many calories. It's a myth. I have to watch what I eat otherwise the scale goes up. I maintain and eat healthy volumous foods to fill me up. Then my two hour running takes away the twenty percent or less of desserts that I enjoy in the day. That's all I have room for. Not thousands of calories burned. By this logic I should eat +4000
@@smp5343 It depends on your height and metabolism, I need 3100 calories to mantain my weight and If I want to gain more I will need to eat 3500, Im 186cm tall so there you have it!
@@smp5343 Not trying to start an argument, but I disagree. We do burn way more calories than most people - in general. You may be different, but I'm still young and growing *not trying to call you old or anything. Just saying, I can eat 4k calories easy peasy everyday because of how much I run. Although I also have to factor in I'm getting taller, building muscle, and burning more calories from other activities. Good on you for running 2 hours each day. Keep it up, mate!
Seems like you've got a solid balance with the food. Coke post workout or post long run really hits the spot. Good shout just getting those fast acting carbs straight in there in a way that's also enjoyable.
I love what I eat in a day videos! Thought it was great how many carbs you got in before and straight after the workout but personally I'd replace some of the drink mix, Gu or coke with some 'real' food that adds some nutritional value.. thinking something like banana, oatmeal or apple sauce to bump up the nutrients. Just a suggestion:) hope you'll smash that Half 💪
Eating 4000 calories in a day is incredibly challenging if you're only eating actual food. And incredibly time consuming to prepare it all! At some point it's necessary to include foods that are easier to consume like juice, ice cream, and soda, especially if you're an elite athlete. Just my opinion and experience.
I was surprised we're really similar at the start, only I am loving tart cherry juice with tailwind and plain seltzer instead of the coke. It's kept me from going crazy on candy since I've started doing it a few months ago.
I find it interesting that on a big training day like today, you have a big breakfast and dinner but basically skip lunch with snacks and energy gels sprinkled in here and there. That’s what I do in the summer and winter when I don’t have school and if I don’t have a 9-5 job. SOOO nice
Good vid Spencer. Yes to the dog-licked plate (but not the good dishes) and I typically clorox spray afterwards but that's all the human food he gets so he loves it. Looking forward to seeing what you can do at this new distance.
Great video! People can pry my Ben and Jerrys Salted caramel core ice cream out of my cold dead hands..😅 super strict diets can lead to burnout pretty quick(atleast for me)
I generally like to not eat before my runs. like i wake up at 4;30 get to the track or road at 5am and then run, come back by 6am or 6;30 depending on the session and then eat. but it is personal preference i guess.
he'll probably make the transition to full marathoning if he enjoys this schedule and the longer distance running itself - seems like the high mileage is setting it up in advance
Interesting video! I find you very brave to drink a Maurten drink mix, but even more so in the morning on an empty stomach. I really don't like the fact it has pectin which makes the drink much thicker than I can enjoy.
why not real fruit or other types of carbs in the morning when you are home. like why the 320 cals of maurten drink and 100 cal goo? what is the reason?
Much faster and easier to digest before a morning workout. Plus with how much food volume he needs to eat throughout the day, liquids/gels make it easier to get in the rest of the food needs throughout the day
Trying to get 80g of carbs in 320 calories is not easy to do with all natural foods. He’s not running to be healthy. He’s running to fulfill competitive goals. You do what you have to.
@@Zecamilleo that’s not even what he said, his point was it is much easier to get carbs in from gels and drinks before a hard workout and they won’t sit in the stomach like solid foods
I also don't understand pounding the carbs and then topping off with keto IQ. I'd love to know the reasoning there too. Is this just so you can plug the sponsor or is it actually beneficial. You get a touch of ketones but your blood sugar is spiked with glucose so does your body even GOS about the ketones? I could be fasting and chug a bottle of ketones and it only goes up like 1 Mmol and it's hardly noticable is I was all carbed up on Coke and goo. Not sure you you could utilize the ketone stuff.
How about like right before a race( preferably a 5k). My races start at 5:00pm, I like to eat at 4:20pm something small, I usually eat a thing called a "stinger waffle", you can search it up if you want, and it's supposed to be really good for running, am I doing something wrong because I always get cramps, I don't drink too much water and I stop deinking water at the same time I eat
I’d never be a long distance runner because they typically have to be willing to have a very skinny body with little muscle to achieve such good results. Knowing I’m burning through muscle as I run distance would be hard to deal with. There are a few exceptions but it involves gifted genetics or enhancement.
Would the people who tell you that you shouldn’t drink coke walk up to someone in a grocery store and tell them they are unhealthy and need to take the coke out of their shopping cart? I doubt it. I don’t know why people think they have a right to tell social media personalities what they should eat or drink, or anything else for that matter.
Why wouldnt u guys go to Utah and team up with Adam and Mica Wood sometime in the future for a training camp? Yall have similar schedules and are all training on the same level doing similar stuff. Great collab, new friends..
I think that is fantastic that you drink a Coke post workout. Everything in moderation and we have to eat/drink things that we enjoy as well as things providing nutrients.
It takes serious commitment to run 90 miles a week. Even most high school varsity athletes have trouble getting even half that. And most people can barely get 10 miles a week of running. Weighing 130 lbs is healthy for someone of his stature, and being lighter minimizes the impact on his joints versus someone who is overweight or has an above-average amount of muscle mass (i.e. more than is needed for everyday function). That said, I don't condone his diet which has quite a bit of ultraprocessed junk.
As a 50 year old man. Never strain on the toilet. You'll thank me later (piles) It is not gross to let Georgie lick the plate as it saves cleaning it yourself.

Top U.S. athletes run even higher. Pros run 100-120+ for halves. They even average that just to run a 3:50 mile, 13:00 5ks
That's pretty standard for running/training at that level. Combine that with actually enjoying running and you'll get high mileage weeks easy.
It's really not for that level.
