biggest mistake was creating "new" villains and establishing it like it was going to be an episodic portal horror thing. I think the watchers that jack eats at the end of the series were intended to be the primary antagonists in wayward sisters, being pan-dimensional monster angels

This is my favorite episode. And I am still furious they didn't accept the spin off of Wayward Sisters. I would have watched that way more than SPN.

Logan keeps talking about why the brothers where not near the rift... Because there was a blast of energy that pushed Jack in another universe? Kaïa was found far away from her starting point; that could have happen to Sam and Dean, too. Jack was the only one on target because he was the one with the powers. Kaïa eventually found her wayt o civilisation because she had road signs and a knowledge of the USA. The boys not so much. So I could totally beleive that they started in the wrong direction and went away from the rift.
Apparently this spinoff didn't get picked up because CW went with Legacies instead. I'm happy we got to see more Hope but I bet this show would have been better done than Legacies in general.

I firmly believe if they had picked up Wayward Sisters it would still be on the air. My cynical theory is after 13 seasons they didn’t want to put in the energy it takes to have two tv shows running in the same universe. Making sure the logic/threats/timelines add up.
I think SPN is being mostly boosted by it's male audience and the female audience is just the vocal half. So when Legacies was Chosen over Wayward Sisters, they were probably thinking the male SPN audience wouldn't take to the new drama. Reality is we would have ignored it just like we ignore the boys talking about their feelings by the car.
I think this episode was supposed to be a backdoor pilot for their own show correct me if I'm wrong

from what I read this spin off was up against Vampire Diaries spin off of a spin off Legacies and the d=network decided on the other. I don't know why they couldn't do both as I would have loved this one an I know a lot of fans (not all) agree with me.

In the shows fairness, not only do all the female characters die but so do all the male characters as well. The only ones mostly safe in the show are Sam and Dean.
That they never picked up this as a show was a huge mistake - and an indicator of just how misogynistic a lot of US TV still is.
They give Claire a love interest and kill her off in the same episode.
Also, supernatural is non-creative at starting shows. It and the two backdoor pilots all are motivated by a person's love interest being killed and them trying to get revenge.
