Great analysis! I assumed the instance where there was an unlit triangle above the darknut could be indicating the ability to summon a stronger version at the cost of three. Either way it's exciting to see that little variation. I also noticed that the fancy bed cost two triangle pips. Maybe it's sturdier.
oh man, seeing the return of these familiar monsters is great. I can't believe Alroader is back! Honestly I think it only lacked pincers originally because the sprite wouldn't read well in profile.. I added them when I drew it :p
If I were to guess, it would be that Zelda (or the companion) can only maintain up to three charges worth of summons, indicated by the companion's tail of three similar looking triangles. The more charges a borrowed thing costs, the fewer things that can be created.
Great video as always ZL, really appreciate this one since I don't have to do any translating lol. That cloud reference is quite interesting, maybe they are just talking about being near clouds on top of one or both of the mountains... or maybe we will have a cloud section in the top right corner of the map like in Minish Cap! That would be cool. Does seem like the very top right corner might have an area that hasn't been shown yet
With how much of this game is so similar to BotW and TotK in how it plays, the implication from ESRB that we may be playing as Link in the opening section, limited abilities, the presence of dungeons, and Ganon being the main villain again, it's safe to say that this game was originally supposed to be another Link adventure. Let me explain with how I think this game would've worked as a Link adventure and how similar and different it'd be. *Similarities (Things that would stay the same):* _The rifts would still be a problem. Tri would still play a role as companion. The Tri Rod would still be an item that is used for creative gameplay. The story and plot would basically for the most part, be very much the same. The dungeons, the enemies, bosses, everything. The wind up toys would also still be a thing._ *Differences (Thing that would be different):* _The only real differences would be that Zelda would not be held captive by Ganon at all and Link wouldn't be fighting Ganon so early on. Zelda would end up in the rift by being the one who pushes Link out of the way, instead of the King pushing Zelda aside. The King would likely be captured and replaced by Ganon, with all the soldiers under his spell, putting the charge against Link for the accusation that he's responsible for Zelda's disappearance. This would've made it so that Link would need to a disguise to protect his identity from the soldiers. Link would've likely had some kind of girl Link disguise transformation. But his male form would still be playable. Both female Link and male Link have differing but similar gameplay. Girl Link can use a crossbow to shoot enemies and the Tri Rod abilities, while Boy Link uses a Sword and Shield. Girl Link can jump while Boy Link rolls. The gender swap functionality works similarly to the transformation masks from MM and wolf form in TP. Both forms share same clothes, but how the clothes looks depends on the form. Clothes are changed to look feminine while Link is a girl, and they look normal when Link is a boy. Some clothes are unisex, therefore stay the same despite the current gender form. Link obviously needs to be a girl to spend time in the Gerudo town. But unlike BotW, where he needed a specific outfit, he only just needs to be in girl form. Impa is the one who helps Link with mastering appropriate use of his temporary gender swap transformation._ *Controls:* _The down directional button can used to switch forms. The right directional button allows toggling through Echoes or Shields. Left directional button toggles Arrows or Swords. L button is used to target. R button to use Shield as boy Link or form a Force Shield with the Tri Rod as girl Link. Up directional button is for the map to fast travel. Minus button for quest log. And plus button is for inventory and save game. Y and X buttons are used for Sword techniques as Boy Link or the Tri Rod abilities as Girl Link._ Basically the game probably would've been so much better that way. Especially if still releasing this year or next when sticking with that original plan. Obviously only male Link would be playable if this game were set to release one or two year(s) sooner instead, depending if whether TotK released in 2022 or 2023 in that scenario. As for when the game changed to be what we're getting next month, where we simply just play as Zelda, and removing the Sword, Shield, and Crossbow or Bow and Arrow from the game happened. I'd say the change to Zelda's first adventure idea we know now happened sometime during the span of after E3 2021, before March 2022. This would explain the real reason why we didn't get this game sooner or any Zelda release at all in 2022. And why for a game that had 4 to 5 years of development, the game is so small and restrictive in gameplay experience. That is because the game that it is now only took 2 years of make the game what it is now. When with a simple delayed full 4 to 5 years of development of a new Link adventure would've been much better. That is why we only have two Tri Rod abilities instead of 3 or more. And why the B button is practically ignored at this point. This build of the game is a clear result of needing to rush out of Zelda game starring a playable Zelda before launching the Switch 2. With that all said, I'm very disappointed that there's no form of direct melee combat at all, and the Looney Tunes tactics as the seemingly the only way to "fight" in this game. Very disappointing and very demeaning to Zelda's character. Zelda in past games had been depicted as a badass. And she's known to have her own sword too. As to why they removed the sword altogether when they could have just had Zelda have a LA remake artstyle version of her sword from TP, and have it only stab enemies, is beyond me. They should've saved this idea of a playable Zelda for the next 2D game on Switch 2, to flesh out the concept more. And instead, just given us the Link adventure version of this game we deserve, and played with idea of playing as a female character in a Zelda game with Link's gender swap form, rather than rushing out a Zelda game with playable Zelda to appease activists.
I've heard elsewhere that Darston might actually be tree goron chief because his name follows the same prefix/formula as other goron chiefs, DARston, DARuk, DARmani etc.
Great video as always, ver in-depth. May I suggest, however, that you spend some time practicing the inflection in your speech? You may not realize it but nearly every sentence you speak follows the same inflection pattern. It is hard to describe without demonstrating it but once you hear it you will not be able to overlook it.
I think it works, it is relaxing to follow, and a good break from the unauthentically animated voices of your average RUclipsr. Zeltik does the same as this though that's not how he speaks off script, so I think it's just proven to work for long-form Zelda video essays
So ready for a better enemy variety! I am liking that we will get an answer to the mysterious sword Link is carrying. I really really hope Zelda is allowed to express herself during cutscenes. I'm sure she will be a quiet protagonist but I would still love her to have some personality and show off her wisdom.
I wonder of the Moth enemy is a Gibdo, original I think they are suppose to be Zelda's version of zombie mummies but this game oready has a redead and in TotK Gibdo was turned to humanoid moths soo it makes sense to bring the Gibdo moths. Although I'd make them more like the bug from Mimic where maybe they can look like people. I wonder if this game will have a Gibdo hive?
I'd love to see a Zelda game where you can play between Link, Zelda and Ganondorf and see how Nintendo have them play in a game where they have to use similar mechanics, like with how Link fights you have to both think and be aggressive. I image Zelda fighting with a Sheika Dagger half the range of Links sword half damage and a charge dash sneak attack the only works if you hit enemies from the back and more MP so you have to think with every encounter. Ganondorf bareknuckle Double damage all aggressive gameplay infinite MP but manual charging for magic and longer he charges the more powerful the magic attack.
I'm pretty sure for the darknut, the 3 triangles represent the cost, where the 2 glowing triangles indicate how many triangles Zelda has left to spend on echoes, which would show that she is 1 triangle short of what she needs to summon a darknut echo.
I wonder if enemies like lizalfos and moblin or ever darknuts will ever have villages, Although I think it's implied these enemies are summoned into the main world so if if we where to see their home towns Zelda would probably have to go to a dark world or something.
Thinking of Ugi, I have the feeling he could be a traitor, maybe way too much interpretation sorry. Uso means lie. (Like Usop in One Piece) Maybe it is a combination of Uso and migi. Or it is a misdirection and the Woman is a traitor. :D
If that were the case she would also need one more to summon the peahat, moth or bird. She owns more than 3 triangles in almost all the shots we see including this one.
