Pfaffs are the best machines there are, I've been sewing for years and now I have both the old industrial ones, which are real tanks, I've even sewn plywood on them, and the more modern electronic ones that do amazing things.
and an honorable mention also to my ADLER from almost 50 years ago....triple transport is truly incredible, it sews anything

I own a PFAFF 145 H3, she’s a workhorse and I practically stole her. I found an advert on a local buy and sell site under the title OLD SEWING MACHINE and went to see it. It turns out that they’d bought a house to flip and the prior owner left a lot of her stuff behind, including an OLD SEWING MACHINE lol. She needed some work they knew that but the guy just said ‘Make an offer’ but I replied didn’t want to offend him. He made it clear that they needed the space more than they needed the machine, so I offered ‘$60, maybe $80?’ and the guy was delighted, thinking that he would’ve been lucky to get $50. It cost me $114 to have her serviced and brought back to perfect working order, and the guy that came out to do it said it all when he warned me to be careful. I nodded and agreed, thinking that she was older and I should be careful with her. He said, ‘No, if you’re not careful you could sew through your hand!’

Picked up a 145 H2 this winter. Those things are getting used a lot and you find them pretty easily here in Austria, but they just don’t die so the prices are quite high. But I love mine. Only planning on upgrading it to H3 (more clearance for thicker materials). Should be an easy fix. Only hurdle is to find the parts.

Nice machine and nice clean up, I'm new to this so watching a lot of video's and forum's. I think I've seen your help comments on leatherworker. I just got an old Adler 167 GK 373, it is so similar to your pfaff to the point someone installed pfaff rods and feet on it. Good for me because I hear Adler accessories are expensive and hard to find. After seeing this I'm going to inspect my clutch components to see if it helps the feathering. Helpful video

I have a 145-H4 and need to time the bobbin to the needle. I'm having difficulty getting the bobbin spindle to free up from the rt. angle gear under the bed. (set screws are out) Any suggestions on how I might free the spindle up so I can engage the gears while setting the bobbin timing? TIA

Nice machine. I have three Pfaff's: 1171, 1209, and (my baby) a Hobbymatic 935. I truly like these machines, as they all have IDF (integrated dual feed dogs ). I really enjoyed watching how the walking foot works on this industrial machine. And the price?

I have the same machine and even though I've had it for several years I've never been able to get it to "soft start" so to say. Yes one hand on the wheel to get it started can improve it a wee bit. But often on a start up I want both hands on the material and I want to change direction within an inch or so. I've made sure all mechanical points from the foot pedal to the motor are free and lubricated. Sometimes when I stop and then try to start again it won't budge with normal foot pressure. So I encourage it with the wheel and then it takes off at a million miles an hour. Any tricks of the trade beside switching to a servo motor at about $300. ? How do you adjust the clutch brake that you mentioned? Perhaps that has something to do with it.

I just installed a servo motor on mine for about 30 minutes of time and $100 on Amazon 😊

I can't remember the power machine's number designation I used back in 1968, but this machine LOOKS ALMOST IDENTICAL to what I had limited training on back then. Was the model 145-H3 available back then??? If so this has GOT to be the model of machine I trained on. I only got to use that particular power machine for about two of the three & a half months that I worked @ Oregon City Boat Top & Auto Upholstery, primarily as a "puller/installer". I recieved rudimentary training about the power machine, safety, loading the bobbins, walking foot operation, stitch length & adjustment plus threading the machine etc. I only got about two hours(@ best) per day on the machine after school. I fell in love with that machine despite moving into a higher paying occupation after graduation. I'm about to retire(2 years out) & my memories of 68' & that power machine now dominate my thought pattern. The ONLY 2 differences I can visually see from the power machine I once operated & this 145-H3 is the Pfaff power machine I once operated had only ONE black bar Spanning the length over the top of the machines (arm?) to the head & this one of yours has 2 bars stacked on top of one another. Depite being 52 yrs ago I DISTINCTLY remember that power machines silhoutte! It also had a green colored top to the table with a scale embossed on the vertical edge of the table. My ONLY complaint from memory with this power machine was that it took off too fast for me, like I had trouble with the footfeed so used the leg/knee feed so I could plant both my feet on the deck for stability. As a cylinder head machinist & carbureted induction specialist I appreciate quality craftsmanship & see you do also! I'm looking for this very model of power machine. I know there are both newer Pfaff models & other brands of power machines that I can purchase but... & this is going to sound crazy... I am strung out on this 145-H3 model of power machine. I have viewed online both the 1245 model & the 545-H4(what does the H & following number mean?) & then came across this domain of yours, I mean If possible I would have stepped right into the monitor took a seat in your shop, threaded that 145-H3 & start stitching some roll & pleated/diamond stitch matrerial! If you come across another 145-H3 PLEASE follow up on this reply of mine!
