This video intends a way to make us understand how tensions could be adjusted on an industrial sewing machine.
I consider this topic of great importance because from it depends to get a nice sewing on an upholstery project.
By doing this procedure well, we will get balanced plain closing sewings. Besides, nice stitches on top view if referring to top decorative stitches (french stitches and over stitches)
For this demonstration, I have used the standard upholstery thread (polyester N°92) and a needle 120 (metric system=20 (Singer system) If we need to do sewings with a thicker thread it would be advisable to change the needle for a thicker one. Tensions must need a readjustment to get a balanced sewing.
I hope you find this information useful!

Very excellent video, I have a PFAFF 194 high post 2-needle machine. But I can't adjust (needle with the hook). If you could help me with this ...

I find some of the video you do fascinating to watch some clever methods you use,
On my singer class 7 twin needle oscillating shuttle hooks the big old cast iron machine used for marquees and parachutes ,
I am trying to sort out the left side at the moment as I only using the one needle ,
I seem to be having an issue, after stitching about 8 stitches in leather I am noticing the thread twisting, and snagging under the leather, then the twisted thread appears on top and some times it has twisted all the way to the thread pick up lever,
And some times when trying to free my leather its stuck , due to a second loop not made it through, But why is my thread hell bent on twisting ,
Ive tried different threads and needles and the issue is the same out come, its a little better if I use thicker leather but still happens after 10 stitches,

Check out the thread tensions up and down to verify they're in good condition.
Some parts of the leather material are harder than other portions If so, the needle and thread rubs causing twisted strands. The solution would be a thicker needle to make a bigger hole to let needle and thread pass through freely.

@@Cechaflo After you mentioned size of thread to needle, I thought lets check my threads again as I own several that look the same but not all tried ,but as there are no label`s on them.its hard to tell the difference in size as the sizes is minimal,
I noticed three of the same threads in size ` that`s what I thought but slight size when looked very carefully and felt that tiny bit thinner,
So I gave it a shot , and got to tell ya man that machine sewed without any issues, weeks and weeks of trial and error stripping and cleaning, and even replacing parts, you know how it goes when just learning,
Big thank you man, if this was not coming from you I would not of went back to recheck under close inspection , Thank you again.

Hello Caesar, informative video on the machine's settings.I have a machine 1245 very much I like it in work. How thick is the thread minimum it can be sewn?

Dear friend, I have used the standard upholstery thread 92, but it can sew with a thinner thread if used on thin fabrics. According to the manual these machines can sew from 110=18 needle size to 180=24 needle size. I have tried with a 90 needle size with 92 thread and it also sews excellent. I used it on small thin leather items.

Hey Cechaflo! Once again, a great video! I balanced out the tensions on my 1245, top and bottom, no dots on either the top or bottom, but, I'm sewing with auto leather and in sharp corners the seam doesn't seem to be tight enough! The thread can be seen pretty dominately when turned right side out..?? is it possible to get a tighter seam and balanced? Any ideas would certainly be appreciated! Thanks!

Glad to hear from you! If the upper tension is tightened enough and there is still a 'loose stitch' it could be the 'hook point' would need to be a little bit faster, of course to catch the 'thread loop' faster. By doing this the upper tension would be alleviated and you would not need to tighten it too much.
It is only a suggestion. You should try the best you feel is ok.

Thx for getting back so quickly! I was able to adjust stitch length and trim around the sharper corners which kept the stitches from pulling so hard and that seemed to pull them tighter. I think it will be ok, but if not, I'll give your idea a shot. Thx so much for your response!
