Keaton is so great. For Batman he had the wrong height, the wrong body type and the wrong career history, but somehow he and Burton not only overcame those issues, but actually made a virtue of them. Keaton's Wayne isn't a mountain of muscle but he sells Wayne's intellect, intensity and madness so well that you can still believe in everything he does as Batman. It's also very effective how Burton always shot Batman in such a way to make him look much taller and more imposing than Keaton was in reality, but didn't do the same when Keaton was playing Bruce. Having Bruce look like a regular (borderline short) dude compared to the towering, bulky Batman really adds to the mystery of the character, imo. It's basically the opposite approach to the Nolan films. I like Nolan's films, but they were very concerned with grounding everything Batman could do in some sort of tangible reality. Christian Bale bulked up for the role and we see him train and source all of his gadgets, usually explaining the use and purpose of a gadget in a conversation with Alfred. We know absolutely everything about what he's capable of before we even see him do it, because the Nolan is very keen for us to understand the rational explanation for something before it happens. (There's no way Nolan would have had Batman summon a swarm of bats in Batman Begins without explaining how that gadget works beforehand.) That's all good and fine, but Burton and Keaton had, in my opinion, a much more interesting and elegant explanation for why and how Batman can do all the things he can do. Which is that Bruce Wayne is insanely driven and in all likelihood, actually insane. That's really all you need to know, and it's more fun than Nolan's over-explanation of everything.
I will never understand why some of you fans are so obsessed with height. I watched this movies through my childhood and never once ever paid any thought to his height. Seriously, who cares? If the actors do a good job and you believe them in the role, that's all that matters.
If you'd told Michael Keaton in 1989 that he'd reprise his role of Batman in 2021 he would never believe you. And it's mad when you think about it. Amazing, but mad!
I just realized Batman (1989) Trilogy has the most famous live action versions of its characters. Michael as Batman, Uma as Poison, Danny as Penguin, Michelle as Catwoman. Jack Nicholson as Joker, Not to mention Tim Burton as their Director. I do think Michael’s batman Trilogy is the pioneer and blue print among the latest of the Batman trilogies. I am Gen Z yet I can see how really successful and popular his own trilogy.
Watched Keaton in 89 when I was 11. Been through all live action movies Batman. I guessed a huge bunch of people in the comment section never read the comics. Keaton's portrayal is the most comic accurate from Bruce to being in the suit. You can criticize his height all you want, if you are taller I would like to see you in the suit and see if you can perform better. Back then in the comics the suit was still blue and grey. But after Burtonverse came out, they changed the costume in the comics to the Keaton one. And the mood became darker. That is how much influence the Burtonverse has. Till now.
The Burtonverse indeed! 🍷That's true the color and styling including the voice of Batman was largely defined for all future Batman adaptations ever since.
The first thing I noticed when I saw Keaton is his crazy beautiful stare and eyes. So I 100% saw what they saw in him. Funny how I keep thinking that he is my fave Batman. I never liked anyone as much as I liked him as Batman. No one can sell it like he did. TBH, I’m not too sure but Robert Pattinson is the closest we will ever get to Keaton’s Batman. I don’t know why but Rob has crazy eyes as well. I feel that people will like his Batman. Just a hunch. Movie might be “meh” but he can be amazing. We’ll have to see. But I’m excited.
I was heavy into Batman comics in the 80s and its still my favorite era. It was a literal translation to screen. I must have watched that movie 200 times lol
Man made the entire world eat their words. Decades later they bring him back to the role. Arguably, one of the best to take on the role of the caped crusaser
I was a fan of Michael Keaton in his comedic persona, I enjoyed his sarcasm, and his physical comedy. I was so much a fan of his comedy I didn't expect him to be in the running yet alone the actual star of the movie. I kept wondering who this Michael Keaton guy was that would be batman. I kept trying to place the name with the face. It was as if a part of my brain shut down at the idea … I then thought oh no not another camp style batman. Then I watched the movie and I learned the depth of Michael. He was the vehicle that made Batman a credible character. All that followed owe it to his talent as a true gem in theatre.
I'm only 36 and maybe too young by a couple years but when I hear Batman, I instantly think Michael Keaton. No disrespect to any other Batman (except Clooney my goodness) but this man is Bathman. Bale turned Batman into something new and it was spectacular but for my money Keaton is Batman, and not only that, just a fucking superb and underrated actor.
Keaton invented the Bat voice. He thought Batman needed to disguise his voice more so he invented the low mysterious gutteral voice that is now a standard in all Batman adaptations.
Just imagine if social media existed and it was revealed that Michael Keaton was cast as Batman. It already was so controversial back then without social media. When Ledger was cast as Joker there were MANY skeptics, myself included being a huge Joker fan but there would've been even more if social media existed in 1988 and 1989 for Keaton.
He has been the best Batman there, as the Christopher Reeve made best Superman and Clark Kent ever, then Michael Keaton as well made the best Bruce Wayne. As well we don't need to forget the Michael Gough as best Alfred as well, the classic British butler. I have watched all the batman movies recently after finishing the Batman series from 60's, and while the special effects and visual effects are not so advanced and heavily used like in the latest ones, they do make almost more believable scenes by what they used. I do like Ben Affleck as batman as well, he does it well too.
It would be fucking badass if Burton and Keaton would collaborate on another Batman. Complete the trilogy and give us an older Batman solving one last crime.
Michael Keaton played Bruce Wayne. People thought Michael Keaton didn’t look like a superhero & that's why he was a great choice for the role. Nobody would ever suspect him as Batman, that he would easily fool everyone.
I mean guys it was in the 80´s. How can you put a serious actor in a Batsuit and make him intimidating?Keaton was well cast in my view. He looked so scary and intimidating as Batman.
I just can't believe we're finally (quite overdue) going to see him play Batman for a 3rd time in The Flash. There are so many great portrayals of Batman in live action and animation over the years, the best being... Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson. I could never make my mind up who was my favourite among them but now I can safely say its Keaton... He's among the smaller actors playing Batman but his fearsome presence is felt, his expressions, his voice, attitude... it just all works. I take nothing away from Adam West, it was just a different time and style but if not for Keaton then none of the amazing media entertainment of the character we have today would have come to pass, we wouldn't have gotten the late great Kevin Conroy with all his amazing voice performances from the animation series and movies to the Arkham games. They went off the rails with B&R but had it not be layed out by Keaton before that "if done right this is something special" the we wouldn't have gotten Nolan stepping in to pick up the slack. Christopher Reeves Superman got the ball rolling and Keatons Batman drived it further. For all the big comic movies we have today would of come to pass if not for Burton, Keaton and Batman 89. Superhero fatigue is starting to show nowadays but I still do love the genre, we just need to slow down, show more focused stories with less woke shit in them and this genre will live on strong.
Haters will always hate Michael Keaton for no logical reason but in my book he will forever be the greatest batman period 🦇

I loved Michael Keaton as Batman I was 3 years old when this movie was made
I saw this 3 times in the cinema the week it came out. Good times
As much a of a Bale Batman fan as I am, Keaton really got the mentality of Batman.
I wish he got to do another batman he was that good hands down the best batman ! He Should be very proud when he looks back on this
4:46 Man, if only we got to see Two Face in a Tim Burton movie! That would’ve changed everything!
He was great as Batman. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Michael had that crazy in his eyes that fits Batman perfectly. He was the best batman and Bruce Wayne.
And then he became the best Batman. Kids today will never understand.
The thing about mical keaton. Casting kinda reminds me how people felt about tobey being spider man and they were the best actors for those casters
Best batman movie
I was heavy into Batman comics in the 80s and its still my favorite era. It was a literal translation to screen. I must have watched that movie 200 times lol
@@petawest6505 "Ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight?"
I think "The Dark Knight" (2008) is the best Batman film.
@@smit4459 I think Batman Begins is the best Batman Film. The Dark Knight felt more like a Harvey Dent and Joker film.
People were complaining about his casting back then. Ironic cause he’s still considered by many to be the best Batman yet.
Man made the entire world eat their words. Decades later they bring him back to the role. Arguably, one of the best to take on the role of the caped crusaser
One of the best films ever made!
He is back!
Welcome back BATMAN, I missed you sir.
Always a pleasure to watch Batman over and over again! 😀
Michael Keaton was the best Batman ever
The King.
Michael Keaton is one of the best Batman’s ever
You know he’s the best Batman when his eyebrows look like the Bat symbol! 3:25
Bro I thought I was the only one who noticed that. His face resembles the cowl that he would wear
The biggest issue with Batman and Batman Returns was their lack of Keaton. I’m looking forward to seeing more of his Bruce Wayne/Batman in the future.
It's in his eyes. He has crazy eyes. That sold me back in '89.
the best
Keaton and bale are the best
Keaton is the only actor who has brought a blue-collar quality to Batman. I think that’s why he is appealing to so many fans.
He's my favorite batman watched the movie back then he nailed it.
At the end of the day, Keaton had the last laugh. Now, he’s known as the most iconic Batman as of today.
best batman ever
If you saw Clean and Sober, you knew Keaton was a brilliant choice
Micheal keating is the definition of sexiness in batman
Keaton invented the Bat voice. He thought Batman needed to disguise his voice more so he invented the low mysterious gutteral voice that is now a standard in all Batman adaptations.
And now the fans put him at the top of their list of actors to play the role.
Keaton was the best batman even now in 2021 Still is
My favorite actor my favorite batman my favorite soundtrack.
Seeing this video with the knowledge that everybody is hyped for his return in The Flash
No One is Batman But Michael Keaton, Best Batman Hands Down!!
Michael will always be the better Batman. NAILED it!
I agreed with everything you said until you said Ben Affleck is good as Batman.
@@Sattnin77 He was good in BvS. He sucked in Justice League.
@@devankgulati1637 No he sucked in both.
@@Sattnin77 That's your opinion
@@devankgulati1637 Yeah I know.
2:46 so true that he could pull the character back in a split second even more than 35 years later in an oscars joke - with just a look in his eyes
Imagine that, after BATMAN 1989 movie was shown to the public, people thought of Michael Keaton as serious actor. A superhero movie
I fine he was and always be the best sexy batman they had
It would be fucking badass if Burton and Keaton would collaborate on another Batman. Complete the trilogy and give us an older Batman solving one last crime.
They completely the series with Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. You may not like it but they're canon to the Keaton Batman
Yes. So much yes... That NEED to fucking happen. Ive been lobbying for that for so long...
@@hendrikjansen7130 Not really... Thats why theyre taking it from returns for his appearance on flash.
@@sideskroll they definitely are canon
@@hendrikjansen7130 Not anymore, in the DCEU at least.
It truly was a great combination of having Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson in Batman.
Michael Keaton played Bruce Wayne.
People thought Michael Keaton didn’t look like a superhero & that's why he was a great choice for the role. Nobody would ever suspect him as Batman, that he would easily fool everyone.
The best batman ever Michael keaton
Correct.
Keatons eyebrows look like bat wings.
To me he was and is the best Batman. Crazy that he received so much criticism.
I just couldn’t think of anyone else playing Batman!! He is the only one and the original!👌😎👍🦇
Marion was bang on, the eyes. The eyes sold me too. When he puts the mask on, thats it !
El Batman de Michael Keaton es el mejor sin duda.
Keaton was awesome. Still one of the best
Keaton is Batman!!!!
Best Batman ever
Best Batman!
Está película fue la que inició el gran éxito de superhéroes en el cine, la participación de Jack Nicolson maravillosa 👍
