I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of color accuracy or volume for that. Sorry for the late response, but I missed this comment.
@@joentell thanks for the response. Bought a pc so have to keep using the one I have for a while longer
@@joentell My thoughts exactly, I have a dedicated dark room and I can't help but keep thinking to myself if a brighter rec 709 picture will trump a not as right 95% P3 image. Your insight is VERY valuable and appreciated. I wish I could compare them both in my theater myself.
@@michaelgabrielgarcia1004 The fact that the 3550 isn't being used should tell you about the TK850. It comes down to what's more noticeable, maybe a slight drop in red color volume on the TK850, or the huge difference in brightness?
Very nice professional presentation👍
Thank you!
Brilliant video, it's exactly what I needed to know. I'm still not sure about the lamp, though. Is it easy to replace, when needed?
Glad it was useful. I've never had to replace the lamp.
Thanks for your videos! Amazing content! Cheers
thanks for your video! do you recommend the tk850 or the tk850i? Placed at a distance of 5.60m is it too far? I would have no other options. thanks so much!
I have the 850 ... but having second thoughts. I've watched your video about 5+ times. So you think lights off the 850 has the edge with 4k HDR content due to some extra lumen pop? Also, like really just how much better and noticeable is the black level with 3550? thanks man
Hello sir , greetings from India , can you tell for movies tk850 vs tk700 , there is huge difference?
Hi, just subscribed to your excellent channel. I have a 120" screen and right now I own a Optima HD29Darbee proyector which I like a lot but wanted a honest opinion of what 4k proyector I should buy. Contenders are BenQ HT 3550I, Epson 3800, Optoma UDH-50X and XGIMI Horizon Pro 4k. Which is this is your recomendation , I'm not a gamer just watch movies. Thanks
I like my BenQ TK850.
Joe, me and you are on the same page. I like the higher lumens and I'll deal with the color adjustment. Don't get me wrong. I love excellent color. But 2200 lumens is not going to Handel all situations. I have a grey screen. And I'm painting my white screen black based on a recommendation. The home depot have a paint that you must order called foundery metallic.
I'm not sure If I'm buying the tk800 or tk850. I'm not sure the tk850 is worth the extra 4 hundred.
Your thoughts please
I've only reviewed the TK850 so I can't say.
@@joentell Did you see this update for the TK850 ? Came out yesterday
www.benq.com/en-us/support/downloads-faq/products/projector/tk850/software-driver.html
This shows how to update it.

Also do you have HDMI issues with yours?
I do with mine, that why i'm asking
@@cebro648 I have not. What is it supposed to do?
@@joentell it suppose to mainly enhance the color. Mine failed to update . I was having issues with my projector. I get a white or completely blown out screen on my firestick. I have to switch the hdmi to the other input then switch it back. That's is why I called benq. But the benq tech support could really tell me all the fixes . He was a little vague. He did mention that it fixed that issue and color management. I'm sending mine back . I don't want to take chances that I have a lemon that is showing early signs. I tried to get a replacement but I could not find another tk850 on Amazon, just used ones . I'm considering switching for something in the same price point .
Any ideals ?

So much superb info. What music in the background?
Thank you soooooo much!
Thanks! Very informative video, helped me out.
TK850 seems to have very good black levels.
That's the combo of a bright projector and that grey ALR screen
@@joentell The comparison in the end with the lights on, wow! 😱😍 It seems that TK850 destroys HT3550 when there's ambient light.
Yes! It does. No comparison
@@joentell why did you go grey ALR? I Was looking at the Elite Aeon CineWhite UHD-B
@@joentell what did "light on" in your case mean? Did it mean full-on daylight with no curtains etc. or was it the image effect of a dimly lit room that still had some sort of smaller light source?
Great review!!!
Man, that lights off lights on difference of the 3550 is a huge difference. With the lights on it looks terrible.
Thanks, this finally helped me make a decision!
What did you end up going with?
@@BrokeBrosTSD I THOUGHT I was decided 🤣.
I’m about 98% going with the TK-850(i).
@@pbosche I’m in the same boat😂 torn between either these two, or one with lower input lag since I game quite a bit
@@BrokeBrosTSD Ordered the 850 tonight. Need to sell my 2150 short throw btw..
Anyway, my thought was this…I’ve never ‘run out’ of color. I’ve even set colors below the mid/neutral point.
Brightness however…
Also keep in mind while the 3350 only claims 2000lumens, the color brightness is more which seems brighter to the eye.
Watching this video again however I think the 850 consistently looks fantastic (and often better/best) AND will offer more versatility over all.
Here is the review that can make you feel good about the 850..
h-m-entertainment.com/benq-tk850-review
@@pbosche i know you’ll love the 850. I would too for movies. However, I just wish the 850 had less input lag. I might wait for benq’s new 4K gaming projector coming out soon. Might be a better match for me
So pls, why is it that the BenQ TK850 is better in HDR rendering than the BenQ HT3550... The HT3550 has a tendency to just make the entire sky one big purple void, while the TK850 actually kept the sky blue and with alot of cloud details.
what kind of ceiling mount are you using?
Absolutely the ht3550 wins in the dark room.
The lights on cheak on the epson 3800 4k it's as bright as tk850 but much better collors
I just feel like BenQ is better quality... I was recently very disappointed in a new Optoma that I purchased, I sent it back immediately... preferring my old Bomaker Parrot One! Seriously! This Optoma didn't even provide adjustable feet! The Zoom was a joke... anyway... I just feel that BenQ might be the way to go. I do have a couple of their PC monitors. Here checking it out! Actually I was looking for the TK800M... but Thank you!
Brilliant
Will you be reviewing a laser 4k projector soon?
I'm looking at the LG HU80KA 4K UHD and it dipped under $1,999 last week (back over $2k now 😭). Thanks!
850 all the way
Do you have to calibrate these projectors? Lol. Love you Joe
Lol. FYI, the last question for Phil wasn't regarding our discussion, it was more for Channa since he's creating calibration profiles for TV's. I wanted to set boundaries on his statement because it was a bit broad.
@@joentell i got you. You did a nice job disguising it. The podcast has gotten so polished and well managed but still feels very natural and organic. Definitely in that sweet spot. I know so many people truly look forward to tuning in each week. Thank you for creating it and growing it.
Thanks. I think it seems organic because we make having fun the top priority. If it isn't that, then what's the point. If I had to choose between happy and wealthy, I would choose happy every time. I prefer both. 😉

Dude! Summit Out. I do believe you've found a niche in this virus ridden time!
Who would have thunk it?
The Epson 3800 4k will beat the tk850 because it's as bright but much better collors presentation
cool
In your space you need a TV.
$1600 and NO FILTER???
I've owned many brands over the last fifteen years or so . If good quality and warranty is a focus , skip benq . Epson is more reliable , and superior in every way .
Dosen't the BENQ come with a 3 year manufacture warranty, and the Epson comes with a 1 year warranty?
@@retortman559 Not sure . There is also a filter change in the lcd Epson . I own and like both . BenQ tends to have more issues . Looking around , it seems BenQ doesn't take care of customers too well . Cheers .
An Optoma....😬
I still need to get my hands on some
@@joentell you need a jvc like youthman😁
My ceiling can't handle that! 🤣 Plus it really wouldn't look good in my non-light-controlled room. It would probably look worse.
With all the money you spend on this kind of setup you ll be better off buying a high end tv.
I have an OLED and the image quality is impeccable. But the giant image a projector can produce really adds to the movie theater experience.
