    For me personally, Elden Ring is at its best when ur doing some “tryhard” 2v2s in some cool legacy dungeon. When everyone participating is somewhat knowledgeable and trying their very best to win.

    I have no idea what to tell anyone who's considering invading. If you don't have that bug, that curiosity, if you don't wonder what it's like to hit other people with something the same way you hit a boss, I think you're missing the core lust of what compels someone to invade.
    You can also invade seamless and walk in with full heals, a rune arc and not looking like a tampon (so 4 talis doing build work). It legit scares the hell out of some players because they've essentially been invaded by a boss. If you think some people run away in vanilla when they're alone, you will see how much more this happen on horseback (yes, it's awful).
    Also: a seamless twink is so stupidly dangerous that it actually dawned on me that Fromsoft did, in fact, make adjustments with the nature of this player in mind. There are no big boi phantoms in seamless, it really is some friends progressing at around the same level. So when a twink with a rune arc invades them at rl30... lol, yeah. It's actually incredible how wildly ER can swing in its balance. I suppose that's what happens when they aim to include everything, from a small regular axe to anime katanas and laser beams.

      In my opinion it's time to leave. I always bought fromsoft titles for pvp and never ever have I been truly satisfied. Always some issue never a truly flawless experience.
      You may ask why I bought the game for the pvp only?
      Because if I need an offline experience I can very well download a Pirated copy, finish the game once maybe twice and be done with it.
      Now fromsoft is a mainstream company so not even the excuse of the small studio works for making me think about buying it any longer.
      They don't deserve my money or frankly time since they have no intention of making a enjoyable pvp experience.

    No matter how bad you think you are, most of invading is a knowledge check. Like, can you min/max a build? You can’t parry a 2h colossal. Do not mash out of hitstun.
    With latency and frame traps, there are just some things no invader can walk away from, regardless how skilled. Most RUclips invaders aren’t out here posting all their L’s, so don’t get the wrong idea.
    The design of invasions suggests we are meant to lose more often than we win. Even Bernahl tells you this. “The only thing that awaits you is a miserable death.” Do it anyway, you might be surprised how it feels to win against overwhelming odds, to be feared, even! I found it surprisingly difficult to remain calm and set the pace of the invasion when I first started invading but I’m all the better for it.
    Thanks Jon, for another video. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you and other viewers soon for another arena night with the new RL138 spellblade I’ve spent weeks buildcrafting!

      To me, the adrenaline is half of the enjoyment! (It’s also a barrier to entry.)
      I don’t mind getting sweaty over a virtual fight for my life. You probably do want a fan in your room, pointed at your hands though. It does get easier as you get used to it with more practice. Some tips I have are:
      1) When ((invading another world)) appears on your screen, take a deep breath, hold it and then do slow, controlled breathing when you spawn.
      2) When you do spawn, if it’s not on top of the host party, gather your surroundings. Find where they are on the compass and don’t drink your physick/buff until they can see you. You might need to use a phantom finger or shackle for flame traps.
      3) When they do see you, if they don’t immediately rush you, that means you are in control of the invasion. They are afraid of you. They might have an ambush ready, but you are a cancer in their world and you have no obligation to engage them on their terms. Take a walk, turn your back to them, lead them to a trap or a narrow corridor where they can’t flank you easily. Try and separate them for a 1v1. If they don’t want to follow you, use bone bow or night maidens mist on them. Take sniper shots with a hand ballista. Get them to waste flasks. It’s your game to lose until it isn’t!
      Edit: most of all have fun, it’s a game after all!

    I love invading - I started off hating invaders in OG Demon's Souls (thank you Scraping Spear), then became a Forest Ganker in DS1 (full giants, DMB on a DGM, lost more than I won, what's a toggle escape anyway?) but messed around with the blue covenant to get DMB, which led me to a new playthrough where I got to 4 Kings as fast as possible, and then started invading. Fell in love with it. Been invading ever since. I love it.
    That being said, Elden Ring can be the most brutal, unfun game when you invade. It's pretty disheartening to get 8 or 9 or 16 invasions in a row where it's nothing but Kevins and Babysitter Billys pelting you with magic and everything else under the sun and your fun little theme RP build using off-meta or in general "fun" setups gets cremated alive by the worst blender imaginable. Absolutely wretched. 0/10, I hate this game. "Oh, just one more invasion then I'm done." Then... you get the one invasion. Everything falls into place. Babysitter Bobby let down his guard and lets himself get hit and roll-caught repeatedly and you get a sick psuedo-combo kill on his behind, and then Kevin is a sitting duck. Or perhaps you manage to do the world's nastiest turn and burn with a crappy hawk sword r2 into blood slash and take all three goobers out. You get that win. 10/10 game. It's all worth it.
    This all to say that I feel you big time, and while sometimes Elden Ring makes me want to tear my hair out, and my skill level has hit a rather low personal ceiling, I just can't stop.

      You only really need 89 poise, that can be reached with a myriad of combinations. Even before the DLC I ran Iron Kasa + Blackflame monk armor with heavy duty legs and gauntlets. Those 2 slots (helm and chest) make up 95% of your look especially if the chest drapes down to your knees or even lower so sacrifice the other two slots and you'll be both optimal AND dripped out

  • @sunlight941
    @sunlight941 2 месяца назад +13

    Alright, more than fair take, Jo.
    I'ma keep it a buck, as a mediocre invader who loses close to 90% of invasions whenever I try to bring something seriously off-meta on the table, I recently began to stop drowning the harsh and stinging impression that, compared to dark souls 3, you absolutely need a cheap win condition in your build to even think of taking on multiple opponents as one, let alone experienced players.
    I'll give the tl;dr now: the difference between a build that uses strong weapons/spells/armor and one that doesn't is absurdly huge. I strongly feel that I'm never encouraged to spend time 'gitting gud' with what I like and making my build work, rather than completely changing or adjusting the tools at my disposal instead. It feels like my creativity is being punished, and punished by people who've looked up your average RUclipsr's tier list and chose the most meta stuff in there- stuff that works better the more you turn your brain off. It feels like the design is scorning at me, mocking me, for choosing something different than the 20 pieces of equipment out of 1000+ that everyone uses.
    The longer rant is that, compared to my cosplays and OCs in ds3, I rarely even think about what I could've done better after inevitably losing anymore. When you're dedicating one or two talisman slots for roleplaying reasons, using very inefficient armor and playing with a weapon you don't have an upper hand with no matter how many hours you pour into it, it becomes hard to argue that "gitting gud" is even possible without sacrificing part of the essence of what you were trying to git gud in the first place. When you're almost naked with only a short sword with the kick weapon art, facing two moonveils and whatever colossal, there is simply nothing you can do. Even in the rare times I know I played well, and I spaced a hit perfectly and rolled out of the others' punishes… all of that for 350 damage. But, one bad trade and you're almost dead, three more and you have no more heals. What happens if you change that ash of war into lightning strike and spam that whenever the host and phantoms are fighting PvE? All of a sudden you're 10× more impactful. That's just how it works, and I find it really limiting because yes, you can have "your style" just like you said, but every "style" tends to gravitate towards the same items, killing originality. I probably shouldn't say it's _impossible_ to make what I like work, I'm just saying that the amount of effort to put into it compared to just giving up and picking up a great katana is disencouraging, and it's killing my enjoyment for the game. Back in dark souls 3, you could make Arstor's spear work. Anri's straight sword was okay even against a full Lapp with splitleaf, just in virtue of being a straight sword. But here, if you like the iron spear you'd better have two and power stance them if you want to have any chance at doing anything. Literally almost twice the damage and better poise damage. Better range, too, it feels like. It's dumb.
    Recently, Jeenine has posted a video where he "tries to make colossals work". Colossals are a slightly underwhelming weapon class, and there's far worse. Even then, when you look at the video, what does an experienced player such as him do to consistently win? Use storm stomp. Trade. Switch to a Miséricorde. Switch to a halberd. I've never seen him struggle more than when he went up against the two players in farum azula, and forgive me but I don't think he simply had to "git gud" there.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  2 месяца назад +5

      The power disparity in the game between what is viable and what is optimal is pretty significant, no lie there. It's hard to get a personal style through when it can sit so far below the meta competition and that's a problem with the game overall.
      For me, as showcased in the video, I like to play at lower levels with builds that aren't all that meta. Dual straight swords is obviously a pretty solid option but the build is otherwise terrible. It's level 20 with +5/+2 weapons and only has healing upgrades from Limgrave (4 uses at +4 I think). Fighting hosts who don't have gear muled to them or aren't being escorted through by a downscaled phantom is some of the most fun I've had in this game and its the same sort of build I've made in Dark Souls 3.
      Not that its going to be for everyone but it helped me a lot to get away from the meta space and try invading in a more casual capacity. Actually fighting two friends trying to get to a boss while I try to manage my extra limited resources.
      Could also go the full twink route and just get geared up at the lowest level you can manage. It gets a bad rep but it can be a lot of fun for cosplay builds and just messing around.

      @@sunlight941 I hear you with RP being weak, here’s my cope: make your RP around the stuff you naturally gravitate to winning with. Thunderbolt ash of war you say? What about a lightning thief? Death knight? Dragonborn? Igon with lightning harpoons? (Spears) I could go on.
      Poise is kinda pointless when you’re dealing with multiple opponents IMO because you’re always taking poise damage even through phantom hits. I always pick armor that nets me at least 51 for the PVE and I call it good. It lets me have decent armor variety for fashion which is why I’m still here.

      @emotionaljonxvx Thank you kindly for your reply. I edited my original post to add a few examples for the sake of clarity.
      Yes, twinking is an option and so is straying further from 125/150. Nevertheless, I don't want to admit I'm in the wrong for choosing what I think would feel fair and fun for the receiving party AS WELL as for me. I could definitely bring my Nymph of Rot character to level 20 and spank some new players in Stormveil with rot and poison. Will I ever? Hardly. Once again, the issue is the same: why am I being hindered from playing the way I want to without being overly gimped/penalized, so much that I feel strongly compelled to gravitate towards stronger stuff? One could argue that my purpose shouldn't be to win every invasion, but here I am winning one in eight or so. I don't think I'm being overly pretentious. But yeah sure if I'm invading my friends there's no problem, I know what they like and dislike and I'm sure I won't find myself getting spammed with bone bow tracking sleep arrows.
      And lastly, I don't agree with your point regarding you using "not all that meta" stuff. Dual ss + sacred blade is pretty darn good, and so is a full metal armor set. Try using a one-handed straight sword next time, maybe with the ss stance wa, and let me know if you feel any noticeable difference.

If I ended up using the same meta stuff, even if under the façade of "roleplay", I wouldn't feel that good of myself. At this point why not cosplay a "tryhard bad red man" and use dual nagis, halberd + handaxe, cleanrot and quickstep and whatnot? It's roleplaying!

    Jon,
    I think you need to you need to make a clear distinction about invasions.
    Invasions are not PvP. Invasions are PvPvE.
    You need the PvE part for invasions to work, or it would just be 1vX in the arena.
    So your interest is not in PvP, but in PvPvE.
    Unfortunately, every game I've ever played with PvPvE eventually goes either full PvE, or dies, mostly because the PvE people don't like the PvP part, and as mentioned previously, the PvE Part is necessary for PvPvE.
    And while I understand your argument, ultimately I think enjoying the PvP part of PvPvE is a matter of taste. It doesn't matter how much you try to justify why someone should enjoy something, it's something personal that each individual needs to decide for themselves. Not sure what sort of food or drink you enjoy or dislike, but think of it as something like that. No amount of justification or "just try it bro" or "git gud" will convince you that a particular food or drink you dislike is actually enjoyable.

      Yeah, my arguments and suggestions are entirely subjective. That's sort of the point of the channel. I'm not trying to demand everyone acknowledge that I'm right or anything, just highlight another viewpoint and hopefully give people some perspective.
      I totally understand people just aren't going to want to engage with the system but I'm still gonna recommend it. I disliked the system for years and grew to love it over time, so I'm sure there's at least a few people who could follow that path.
      As far as clarifying PvP vs PvPvE, I don't really find the E part all that essential to what I'm looking for, but I do like when it adds to the mix. There's a lot of room for discussion about where exactly lines could be drawn with which elements mesh well in PVP and which don't, though that's a little beyond the scope of this video.

    As PvE only player player that just watches PvP content of this game, the biggest thing keeping me away from it is due to what I enjoy in pvp games (dota2 enthusiast here) - the sense of progression of getting gud - the issue here being what it implies & how it looks. To be frank, it looks unappealing to me. The skills needed for one to master are exactly those you touched on briefly, involving weird things that don't even feel like a natural part of the time but rather low-key breaking the game's supposed limits . Like, when you look at certain heroes in dota or champions in LoL (not that I wanna praise this game, I've long quit it...), that have a higher skill cap, you can tell that from their ability design & synergies (Invoker or Azir) - some moves & strats feel designed for high level players to pull off. It's hard, but there is clarity in the goalpost. Therefore it looks more & more intense the higher the level, culminating in pro-play. Meanwhile when I watch great pvpers in Elden Ring, I remember initially thinking they're doing some exploit showcase or something, like "why is this dude spending 1/3 of the fight in his menu?", coupled with other things.
    That being said, you make some good points. Like, if there are chances for a good time even w/o some of the weird skills u need to master, and can compensate via other things worth learning to still give a sense of "git gut" progression that feel more... intended? Natural? Things like decent builds w/o hard swaps, just some good spacing w/o spinning around constantly, making good use of your buffs till they expire, or taking some good positions, high ground or low ground whenever its suitable and having some decent knowledge on how to play your character, the range/reach of weaps/spells/AoWs, I guess it's not so bad. (someone correct me if I'm wrong, I never engaged with the multiplayer of this game - I just treat it like a single player RPG - tho' one where I'm still curious how the pvp looks like, from the sidelines xD).

    Invaders used to be terrifying. I was once invaded by a player in the depths and it was one the most paranoia inducing experiences I ever had with DS1. Invaders in Elden Ring have been turned into a joke. They are now just something for gankers to farm. Something that can easily stun lock, rush, and easily overwhelm a invader. This is because Elden Ring's PvP design hinges on the host actually progressing the level, and not just sitting at a site for grace waiting for an invader to appear. This would be forgivable, but fromsoft has had 10 years worth of broken Dark Souls PvP to learn from. So it's kinda bizarre how they've still not done something to stop password summons from being used to gank invaders, item dropping, item duping, and removing the need for the host to actually engage with the game because the phantom can just kill the entire level by themselves. I wish when host's password summoned a phantom, the host cannot change the password. So they can't just password summon a powerful phantom and then turn off the password to gank invaders. Or that phantoms could not drop items. I know it would suck to remove trading, but the benefits of preventing most twinks from ruining the PvP outweighs the loss.

    This is something I've been struggling with on a daily basis ever since I began invasions in the DLC. The issue for me is that it is just too much fun to make a level/area more difficult for an honest group of 3.
    FS has something SO special and unique with their PvP, it's hard not to sift thru dozens of invasions until I get a good one.
    That being said, I've been a FS dedicated meat rider and mostly PvEer for the last 2 years. And I have never been so mad and confused with the game as I am now. Some these hosts make me scream and revert to my 2009 MW2 Lobby Behavior. Some these Spawn points completely unhinge my mindset. The fact that a ton of enemies can hit you and do massive damage, the Fact the brought Seed of a Giant Tree back again with another 10 slot item. The more I think about the stuff that I lose too the more upset I get. I wish I didn't take it so personally but I do. It makes me long for halflight where the invader was scaled to the number of players entering the Church. It makes me miss having that Divine lightning spear that gave Poise because it was MY ONE THING that I had over them. I remember the joy of getting my first upgraded spear for 30 Host kills. We don't have anything like that to supplement Invasions in ER. And while its not outwardly noticeable to the casual player, it leaves players like me with a hollow feeling even when we do manage to pull off a 1v3.
    Thanks for the vid, I've been really appreciating your perspective and thoughts on these matters

    And the pvp itself isn’t “fun” enough to play everyday thanks to the net code and complete lack of varied builds

    Being a hunter is probably a good way to get into pvp in elden ring. Invader covenants was a gateway back in ds3 for me. It lets you continue doing your pve but with occasional pvp incursions to give things some variety. If you're lucky you'll even get to actually find and engage with the invader a bit, before they or the host dies. When invading, if you tire of losing, then either git gud or more realistically, you can try twinking at low level.

    There was a moment in DS1 when I knew I was going to beat the game. For me that was big, I normally do not feel a need to finish any piece of media I lose interest in. I had walked away from DS1 at least twice before returning and finally beating Ornstein and Smough without summons. Not a point of pride, I had just long since lost my humanity. After that the game just felt different.
    The feeling of anxiety from losing all my souls or being invaded was gone. Because, I knew from that point forward I would respawn and keep making progress.
    To me, "Git gud," is just the same encouraging trash talk I use to hear in the Army. Throwing your guts up on the side of the road during a 6 mile run? Suck it up butter cup. What are you going to do? Quit? No, you're better than that. Don't you dare go hollow on me.

    For the longest time, I have had the idea to create the most asymmetrical and cancerous PvP experience possible. The idea was to create a level 1 ultra-twinked out build. They would have both sorseals equipped to gain 40 virtual levels, Godricks Great Rune active for an additional 40 levels, and then be accompanied by two max level password summons. The name of this character: _Miyazaki's Vision_
    I never made this character as I did not think I would get invaded much at RL 1 nor do I really enjoy hosting--That is. . . until invasions were dropped in Seamless Co-op. Here, Invaders can use Great Runes, and the invasions were added when items such as the Dragon Scale Flesh were put into the game. If you have Radagon's Sorseal (+20 levels), Marika's Sorseal (+20 levels), Godrick's Great Rune (+40 levels), and consume the Dragonscale Flesh (+32 levels), then you can use the Grafted Blade Greatsword's WA, Oath of Vengeance (+40 levels), all totaling for 152 additional levels at RL 1. Let me tell you: As someone who has previously only invaded at meta and high level, *low level invasions with this build are a treat.*
    I highly recommend everyone to try invading with this build in Seamless, especially if you are new to or struggle with invasions. With this setup, fights do not go one way or the other too quickly since everyone is low level, you can focus more on your fundamentals as the crazier AoWs and spells are not at anyone's disposal, and even 1v3s will feel somewhat balanced due to your bonus stats giving you the much needed health and defense to accommodate the numbers disadvantage. Please do yourself a favor and try it! :D

    I’ve been trying to get into invading but I am absolutely trash at it. My build is a RL30 vagabond, all those points into vigor + radagon's soreseal. I wanted to main the Claymore but I just can’t get it to work for me. I may try the uchigatana out or maybe the dismounter, not sure. I have ADHD and it feels so hard sometimes to keep in mind that I need to manage my spacing, the environment, think about what equipment the host and summons are using, etc. 75% of my invasions end up just being me panic rolling and getting ganked by the host and their summons. It’s not even necessarily that they are using broken stuff all the time (although that does happen) but more so that it’s so damn difficult for me. The most successful I’ve been is when I’m very sneaky and tricky and set up some sort of elaborate trap but I feel like I only really get to pull that off maybe once every 30 invasions. I’ll keep trying but man is this punishing.

    • @emotionaljonxvx
      @emotionaljonxvx  2 месяца назад +4

      You may want to try doing some duels with a friend (if possible) or even going to a lower bracket with a much stronger build. If you invade at like level 10 +3/+1, barring downscaled summons, you can get a pretty substantial advantage. It's not exactly the most sporting invasion but if you're struggling to get the rhythm down, it can be helpful to try and tilt the odds as much as possible while still going up against multiple opponents.
      It's not the easiest thing to get down but it can be pretty rewarding when you get it right.

Nothing feels more vindicating and entertaining than smashing a prepared gank one by one until all that is left is a host running for their dear life only to get cannon of Haima'd off a ledge to their doom. Or to utterly devastate two out of three in a gank in a single move and just feel the dread of a host as their whole party was wiped out with a single spell/slap an annoying host around with the Carrian reagel scepter spin pinning them against a wall until they go splat. It could be better, though. Ganks are still major work-outs to deal with. Invasions could be far better.

    I think that’s fair; No one should just jump into meta level PvP. If you want to get in, start a new playthrough and keep your tongue running, or once you get the racusant finger, keep that on. You’ll get a taste of everything and you’ll see which levels are kinder to you. Make sure to play like a collector. Try weapons you want to like or spells. Make sure to do things in your favor. Try pots or perfumes, maybe an exalted flesh. Maybe you like coil serpent shield and Erdtree greatsheild so you can poison casters and bonk hosts. Go out of your way to be weird until you get to a level you like. You should consider trying higher poise fashion souls. I play at 67, so I’m not death combined so easily. I run a shield to cover my mistakes. Also, strength is easy mode, intelligence is easy mode, bleed is easy mode and faith is baby mode. You don’t have to be good to get in, you have to git gud to be a sweat; no one likes a sweat. Personally, I think Invasions would be more tolerable if there was a greater window of time you can't be invaded after you've already been invaded. In the final area of the DLC, my friend and I were invaded a lot...to the point progress was almost impossible. We'd finish off one invader and then get hit with another almost immediately, both of us exclaiming in voice chat "What?! It's been less than a minute since we got rid of the last one...I thought it was supposed to be at least 5 minutes between invasions?". I've said in a comment on a previous video of yours; I don't mind invasions, they can be pretty fun and spice up a run, but if you're in an area where you're struggling to make progress already, being invaded every few minutes really dampens that fun. One specific series in the final zone of the DLC was multiple invasions happening in the area with the Ice-Themed Hornsent Warrior (though most invasions had them running to hide behind these warriors throughout the zone, this is just about the ice one in particular), we made it to that point and we'd die because the invaders would run and hide behind the warrior, then we couldn't progress without triggering it. We'd try to fight it but even at Blessing Lv17 at that point, we were doing only minor damage to the warrior. The invaders just hid behind him and threw shit at us while we tried to dodge the warrior's attacks, then after we died, they'd run up and teabag. It really wasn't very fun having to go through that area like 10+ times because it kept happening over and over in that one area.

    7:15 "deal unreasonable amount of damage to catch someone off guard" that is something I take issue of compared to techs and hard swaps and meta searching as you mentioned earlier in the video. For a souls game to be unbalanced is not having powerful attacks, it's that the powerful attacks can be either easily or frequently done without no real counter play. This is why swiftslash was nerfed, that is also why or rivers and bloodhound was nerfed too. Elden Ring needs to strive to copy itself as close as it can to Dark Souls 3. PS. I think the patch right now is generally speaking ok, everything is not burning anymore like when DLC came out. I just hope they keep patching, there's still work to be done.

      "Tacked on afterthought" is like verbatim in the community. Personally, I think it holds less water than what people believe. As a counter example, take the DLC incantation Roar of Rugalea, a tool that featured in the reveal trailer and that certainly got noticed, including lore-wise. Well, I found out, as did a lot of other people, that this incantation was disappointingly mediocre - a "tacked on" thing with all the oomph and little of the utility; another stupid tool in massive game with a fair share of stupid tools that require more effort than they produce results... And then a month later or so Fromsoft turns it into potentially the most abusive aoe in the same, a wide-room crowd control tool for 14 fth. And if you build for it? Wow, yeah.
      So, it's one thing for you to find little of substance in online functionality, but it's another all together to suggest Fromsoft has "tacked on" mechanics, because if we care about nuance that potential list of dubious mechanics starts adding up like crazy in both ways. And if what you don't personally like is "tacked on", I assure you there's plenty of people who will say that about things you personally enjoy in ER. Just go ahead and mention spirit ashes and see how it burns like a forest fire in the community.

    I enjoy casual pvp in most types of games (even Elden Ring) because its a unique challenge to figure out how to overcome because baiting a boss to do something is completely different from baiting a player. My issue overall is the mentality and playstyle of most of the invaders I come across: "look at me! I can spam all day and when I get punished I'm gonna run and hide behind pve enemies and pester you so you're forced to deal with me quickly or deal with me whittling down your resources on the way to whatever your goal is" ect. ect. Its more annoying than it is angering in my eyes. I only have so much time to play so having my time wasted by some dickhead specifically here to waste said time and be annoying isn't exactly fun to me. Thankfully pvp comes naturally to me and I have a thing for numbers so my fun comes from kicking the shit out of those type of invaders with my own planning, skill, and cooperation with my host and occasionally deuling an invader that seems like a good sport. The problem is you have to determine quickly what kinda invader you got with how powerful twinks can be, certain ash of war spam, latency, lag, and how quickly you can stack buffs to setup a oneshot build or you can treat every invader with a "on sight" mentality which I'm leaning more towards now adays because more often then not the invaders are trolls in my experience. My recommendation for anyone who wants to get better at pvp or just doesn't like dealing with invaders:
    Instead of just spamming *insert ash of war here* or *insert the same 3 spells or incantations here* watch someone like "Chase the bro" who's unnaturally good at pvp, is generally very good spirited about the whole thing, and breaks down WHY he's using what he does and how to take advantage of it then try to apply the same knowledge and mentality to when you have to deal with an invader. You may find they're way easier to put down than you think and you'll generally get better at dealing with them so you're less frustrated when annoying ones show up. Alternatively, "everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face" so learn to read an invaders movements to figure out how they're gonna try and put you down and counter that instead of looking up an "OP pvp build" and just copy pasting what they use. Plus, you can always just throw boulders at all your problems. I mean, who's gonna stop you? The Boulder is already in flight.

      @Lilacropolis I stated very specifically spamming and just running to hide behind pve when you get punished for playing bad was annoying. I don't have an issue with invaders as a whole, just how most of them act. Typically when I'm summoned there's only 2 of us and no blues so your 3 man blender comment is stupid inherently because you're making assumptions instead of using simple reading comprehension skills. And just a cherry on top the average player wouldn't do the standard 3 man spamfest and gank squad shenanigans if invaders weren't so annoying to deal with in the first place so maybe instead of making assumptions you should look into a perspective shift and be open to the idea that people can think for themselves and see things differently from you. :)

    Just anyone? No. Absolutely not. Low level pvp is probably your best chance however.
    The game has always lacked important combat feedback when playing online even in coop. This problem dates back to the very first souls game ever made. (Yes yes I am talking about latency and bad netcode, but I am wording it in a way that frames the problem with pvp accessibility.)
    When you need to look at a guide to know what latency and lag looks like, just to be able to play somewhat competently, and in order to be able to appropriately judge enemy distance, that's a lack of important combat feedback/information/tells. Especially where so much of pvp is action and reaction, you need that information and feedback to make a proper decision on countering or other aspects of a fight.
    Can't learn and improve from your mistakes when death comes in often incomprehensible ways. Say what you want but pvp without a shadow of a doubt has its barriers to access.

    Yea I like ER invasion and pvp. The older allegiances mechanics made it a bit more fun in the old souls games, but I like the build variety now. So much imbalance ironically brings balance to the pvp since there is no longer one or two annoying AF metas. There is a lot of ways to beat the cheese youtube builders. You can beat the try hards much easier than in past souls games, which is key for me because I just like the rpg theatricality of it. As im typing this I’m hearing the rest of your video and yea, my sentiments exactly. ER pvp is better for the rpg’ers, worse for the try hards, which is excellent in my book.

    This game reward build more than skill this the main issue.
    Then you talk about skill guys think about spacing management when u have a PvP which reward build and passiv gameplay it's mean the issue IS structural.
    When u have AoW which do more dmg than parry or backstab you couldn't excpect anything about ballance.
    Finally when u had a good basis PvP like dks2 thanks to the mechanics which have been implemented like super parry animation cancelling iFrame on backstep making passiv and agressiv playstyle viable and you see that the studio has thrown everything in the garbrage you understand that there is nothing more to expect from FS

      You can optimize your build to instakllI with ripostes, thing is nobody bothers with parrying in this game because PC anticheat adds up to 100ms latency, this combined with jump attacks and some weapons straight up being unparryable completely makes the risk much greater than reward.
      What? They literally improved on most of the mechanics, also this game has a talisman that gives i-frames on backstep now. Main issue is the overtuned damage on ashes of war and regular moveset of weapons that already have meta moveset.

    >Invaders are always outnumbered
    Except when they aren't because they are picking the best grief spots with OP mobs to hide and run into. Or intentionally invading around world & mini bosses to catch players mid fight and grief them.
    Why are most grieving invaders so dishonest about their tactics?

    • @videocrowsnest5251
      @videocrowsnest5251 2 месяца назад +1

      Running into mobs or choosing bottleneck spots is a good tactic. It's why it's so infuriating to be on the bad end of. I think, though, it's helpful to remember invaders are not a monolith. And what one does has no say on what another chooses to do. I got no control where my invasions occur personally and can end up anywhere. And it's why I need to customize my toolkit to the best of my ability to function in any kind of battlefield or terrain/deal with whatever set up I may encounter. I note a lot of hosts for example neglected ranged attack options of any kind, and leave an easy to exploit vulnerability by only going melee/short range attacks.
      You'd need to find someone who does on purpose do that and ask them for more direct answers. Heck if I know how other invaders think or behave. Outside of this kind of RUclips sphere, I never speak to anyone who does them, nor know any invaders. There is no tea party for invaders to exchange secrets over. So it's less dishonesty, and more "heck if I know what those other reds be thinking. I can barely understand it myself when 2v2s happen." I'd note though that sometimes invasions take a good 2-5 minutes to get going, so by the time an invader arrives they are looking for action and not there to play nice or goof around. Catching a host and company fighting a strong mob or boss is more akin to "ah, cool. That makes this a lot easier."

    • @HailEarendil
      @HailEarendil 2 месяца назад +1

      @@videocrowsnest5251 I played all the Souls games and 90% of the time invaders are grieving trolls. I get an "honorable" invader that will straight up fight once in a blue moon. And yes, you can choose roughly where to invade. You can use the near function and look at where multiplayer is occurring on the map in Elden Ring. With some experience & knowledge it is pretty easy to find spots for invasions that benefit the griever greatly.
      Hosts are not using range (jar canon/bows) because it mostly sucks in PVE. Which is the reason grieving invaders exploit it, knowing that most everyone they invade will not be spec'd to counter it. And acting like invaders don't have all kinds of places online, like RUclips & Reddit, where they have built communities around sharing invasion grieving strategies is incredibly disingenuous. The level of dishonesty about what most of them are and what they do that I see out of the invader(griever) community is astounding.
      I actually set up gank squads with buddies to troll the grievers and 9/10 they will quit out when they see people are ready for them, they have no mobs to run into, and are outnumbered. I will even give one a fair fight, 1v1, if they follow the proper honorifics.. But that rarely ever happens. Because the vast majority of reds are cowards who don't want a fair fight.
      Lastly, running an hiding in mobs from a pvp interaction you forced other players to have may be a "good tactic" for the griever, but it's scummy & annoying. I have invaded myself occasionally in Elden Ring and past Fromsoft games just out of boredom. I don't use griever tactics like running, hiding in mobs, jumping hosts mid fight or other nonsense intended to frustrate and troll co-op players. I also can never get over the feeling of scummyness that I have when invading.. Knowing I forced myself into someone's game that's just trying to have fun and not wanting to deal with me.

    My problem with the pvp is that it feels like rock paper scissors. I come in with a build and the enemy hotswaps to a build that denies me any chance at a win. I come in with a sword and shield and they swap to a UGS and mash out of hitstun. I pull out a dagger to poke between their swings and they offhand a cleanrot sword to poke me back with more damage. If I did somehow start out-damaging them at this point they'll just run away spamming a ranged attack and using flaming strike any time i get close.
    My problem is that I don't feel like I'm playing against a person using their skills, I'm just switching between counters as they hotswap through every meta build in the game until they find one that I can't counter with my build. It's rock paper scissors. I don't want to carry a dagger with kick for shield poke builds. I don't want to carry a dagger to counter hyperarmor on basic R1s. I don't want to carry a buckler to parry SwiftRiversofmoonveilwhateverthefuck. I don't want to carry around 30 counters just to have a chance. It's lame and why I stopped playing.

      The problem is that this isn't a counter this is a stalemate. And your sole method of attack has been reduced to guard counters and your enemy can use whatever they like. This is exactly what I'm talking about. You use a counter and the best you can hope for is a fight where you have to play absolutely perfectly and your opponent just has to play not terrible.

    • @anitaremenarova6662
      @anitaremenarova6662 2 месяца назад

      @@Violet_fykshyn They physically can't roll anything, neutral UGS R1 chain has too many recovery frames for that which means they're still stuck in the animation as they get hit. If you're having trouble with the timing use deflecting hardtear, it completely removes the stagger animation from blocking large hits. If you're using a shield you need a proper build for it, not having enough stamina and at least one AoW/talisman that increases guard boost is an issue on your part not the game's.
      Again, you hit them for a solid chunk of damage AND interrupt their attack while they are unable to dodge. That's the definition of a counter, if they keep mindlessly mashing R1 you'll guardcounter them to death. If even that's too difficult for you go for shield bash, you literally can't be guard broken during it. You've sufficiently proven you have no skill so either hone your basics or switch to meta weapons instead of blaming the game for your own shortcomings.
