- When you think of the ‘Aliyah’, typically you assume it’s Jews from around the world heading for the Holy Land, better known as modern day Israel. Yet there is an older Jewish destination, located in a remote part of Eastern Russia which also has a story to tell. Join me for a visit to the capital Birobidzhan, to see the only other Jewish jurisdiction in the world, and for a fascinating insight into Soviet Jewery and how they fare in modern day Russia. Regardless of your religion, this is a journey with a difference, and it’s one worth hearing.
Missed this one when it came out. Great update
My beloved and hometown, where I grew up all my childhood. Thank you very much for this video.

Israel was formed by the Balfore agreement with the allies after WW2. This was before that.
Well, you make it look so tempting!!!
For a small town in the middle of nowhere, there's a lot to see in Birobidzhan; it's worth a visit if you're in the Far East of Russia.
Hey luc, just came across this video and wanted to say thank you for showing it in modern day! I grew up there half of my life, lived in a poor part not so nice looking birobidzhan then migrated to volgheym. Andraey and i probably went to a same school since there is only one in volgheym. Much thanks!
You're welcome, Angela - I'm sure that Birobidzhan would be delighted to see you again and will greet you warmly !!
Unexpectedly, short and interesting! Seems to be the first report from this place made
by foreigner I've ever seen...thanks Luc!
Quite possibly - I was almost certainly the only foreign visitor on both occasions when I visited Birobidzhan

Luc, great video! Thanks for the information. Just wanted to point out though, you had some inaccurate information. In the beginning of the video, you said the Oblast was founded in 1930s Russia under Stalin to create a separate land for Jews. It was actually founded under Lenin for the purpose of showing some level of acceptance and solidarity. You were correct that Stalin’s political purges severely targeted Jews in RJAO and that the Oblast was a total failure.
Besides that, we’ll done and thank you!
Thanks Jules - so in which year was it founded ?!?!
@@theotherway9498 According to the Wiki, it was founded in 1924 under Lenin, and the settlement of Jews occurred until 1928 under Stalin! So I think we both have a kernel of truth, clearly I missed Stalin’s part in the story of the JAO’s founding.
People are happier living and worshipping with people like themselves. All people should have that right, even white Europeans!
Especially whites
True but there are barely any Jews in the Jewish autonomous oblast.

Very few people know about this place
Hi mate, just found your channel. Are you still in Russia?
Hi
Interesting, seems like a nice place
It's definitely worth a visit if you're in that part of the world

This place needs some diversity, and some Arab countries are overcrowded. Arabs should start moving in to keep their cousins company!
Arabs are used to living in a hot desert , the Jewish Autonomous Region is not the warmest place. This is the Far East, there are few short summers, long winters
Who are the cousins of arabs? Jews and Arabs, unfortunately or fortunately, are BROTHERS and SISTERS by ONE BLOOD, by MUTUAL ONE FARTHER and different mother. You should understand the difference between brothers and cousins.Good luck!
You didn-t show anything of the city, you didn-t gave any sintethic information, you filmed two jews saying nothing is some corner of a synagogue... This video has the same value as if he didn-t existed...
