My husband & I went on Carnival weekend cruise out of Miami in March 2023 for his birthday. We are 70 & 69 years old. My husband bag was sniffed by the security dog. We were both brought into a room and bags thoroughly searched. It was tense! After about 15 minutes of everything being pulled apart the security guard asked us if we had any dogs at home. I told him we had 2 bulldogs. He said that must be what the dog smelled on my husband bag. We we’re allowed to board after that. Had a great little cruise but I’ll never sail Carnival again because of the stress!

Just before one of our family cruises, my daughter was at a chef training course in the US (we're Canadian). Included in the cost of the program was a set of chef's knives. My daughter flew straight from the school to the cruise ship, with the packaged set of knives in her suitcase. She didn't think anything about it, but I guess they X-rayed or searched her suitcase and found them and she was called into a separate room. In the end, they just confiscated the knives for the duration of the cruise and everything was fine. They gave her the knives back as we disembarked.
I don't think it was exactly the right thing to do. Your bringing this up on your show made me go to the Princess website to look @ prohibited items. Been a few years since I last looked. I think cancelling her boarding the ship was extreme. Thanks for sharing and more of this is great!
Carnival out of Norfolk, VA last week.. I missed that scissors were not allowed.. mine were very politely confiscated, and the security officer offered multiple times to hold them for me. no dogs at embarkation, but dogs were present and actively working at debarkation. Wish they had been around at embarkation as we spent the ENTIRE cruise smelling marijuana from the adjoining balcony (6:30 am until well after dark) and many times in the hallway. We could never sit outside. We did not complain, hoping our room steward would also smell it and address it. Sadly did not happen.
That is a pretty aggressive repercussion for something that is not even the “devils lettuce”😜, which Carnival has been getting some heat from lately! Interesting question though. Are the ramifications for bringing on forbidden items different, per item? This should be clearly notated on the FAQ forbidden list. Like Tony said, I highly doubt anyone has been removed from a cruise terminal for bringing on an iron.
The part that gets me in particular is the veteran who takes CBD for PTSD. Is Carnival saying Veterans don't deserve a cruise. They should be ashamed of themselves. The more I learn about what goes on with cruising, the less likely I'll ever go again. What a shame. What a sham.
They are probably trying to avoid a situation where one of their cruisers stupidly takes their CBD into a port where it’s forbidden (thinking their American exceptionalism will protect them) and creating an international incident when they find themselves in jail begging the US Government to get them released. The bottom line is the cruises have rules, you’re supposed to read them before signing your acknowledgment of them. They’re not YOUR rules, you don’t have veto power. Anyone who hasn’t been raised in a solid diet of privilege and entitlement would understand that. Or at least I hope they do.
A similar thing happened to us in Tampa several years ago. A fellow got 'sniffed' by the dog and he was pulled in to the special little room. They simply confiscated the smokables and sent him on his way.
I have a hard time believing this couple was not allowed to board and wonder if there is more to the story. Is it possible this person has been caught before or they were abusive to the agent?
I don't. Even though Florida has slightly relaxed their laws concerning medical cannabis products, that was won by a very slim margin. Law Enforcement in particular is against any sort of legalization because arrests and related confiscation and civil civil asset forfeiture are big business for them. The fact that an officer was involved for a non-crime should make it clear that they wanted to make an example of this person.
Yes you should know the banned list but do they kick people off for alcohol? Or do they just confiscate it. The person bringing on an iron could be causing a fire that hurts many people yet they just take it and return it back when you get off. This was way harsh
That's true. On one of our 1st cruises years ago, I didn't even remember a small travel iron was in the side pocket of our luggage. When we got to our cabin and opened said luggage, there was a note stating the iron had been found and confiscated and told us where to go retrieve it at the end of the cruise. We learned a lesson and have made sure it never happened again. Not allowing these people to just throw away an otherwise legal product isn't right.
Carnival was in the wrong this time! It wasn't pot, it wasn't a weapon, it was just some darn gummy bears to help her sleep, and she offered to toss them.
I think they should have been able to discard the CBD and board the ship. The item was found BEFORE they actually boarded the ship, the same as a travel iron or a grounded power strip.
They should have let her board. On one cruise, we were the first of our little group to board and the last because Security came for us just as we were looking for our cabin. They took us down to the luggage room and told husband they found a bullet in his shoe! Worse, he didn't have his carry license with him. Luckily, I have one (that I have not EVER used, he just wanted me to have one since he's the gun afficionado) Apparently, he'd been cleaning a gun and the bullet popped out. He couldn't find where it landed, and forgot about it. It just so happened to land in a shoe he uses for travel. Sure they let us on after having a little chuckle at our expense, and some nervous sweat at mine. We learned a lesson, before travel, we completely empty our suitcases and start from scratch in case there's some surprise. Poor couple. Oh yes, our cruise companions had a LONG laugh at our saga too.
I do feel it is a bit over the top...but as long is something that is applied consistently as opposed to randomly I do not feel there is a problem. The only problem would be not applying the rule/outcome consistently and fleet wide
This was super helpful. That stuff is 100% legal here in MA. I don't do those things but I can totally see my 30 year old son bringing something like that. CBD stuff is sold at convenience stores here but at the end of the day we have to abide by the rules of the ship line. I probably wouldn't have told them to not bring that type of stuff and it could totally happen. You may have just saved us 15k + LoL. We have a cruise with the kids pending who are 22+ years old.
On our recent cruise, a couple was asked to toss what they had or they would need to disembark off the cruise before the sail away. The guy refused and they left the ship.
Absolutely unjust. Thank you for sharing this. I have my first cruise on Celebrity in a few days. Cbd actually does treat a nerve disorder and I would no more want to stop it suddenly than I would gabapentin… a bad idea. But I guess I’ll need to titrate over the few remaining days I have and hope I don’t get a permanently damaging flare up. This is maddening. I don’t get it. Even if Celebrity doesn’t have dogs, they make it very very clear their policy about cbd and …. well this sucks.
Hi Tony. Happy labor day to you, Jenny and your family. This seems a little ( a lot) extreme to me. Take it away, just like they do with other items that aren't allowed and move on. Do a secondary search and check to make sure there isn't anything else. Local and state laws are different from federal and maritime law. As always thank you for all you do ❤
I was pretty much thinking the same thing. After they watch her throw it out then do a super picky search of all of their luggage. If all is good then let him get on and enjoy their special moment.
Galveston has a drug dog. My wife has cancer and I had a double knee replacement. Both of us were prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain. The dog hit on my bag but not hers. After 45 minutes a police officer cam to the room where the security of the port had torn my backpack apart and said that the prescription was in the bottle with my name and should be allowed. The lady at the port was reluctant to let me go but finally did. The officer also said that the dogs were not trained to hit on gabapentin and he didn't know what the problem was.
I took my son and his girlfriend on a cruise in May out of Long Beach. They stopped my son’s girlfriend because the dog smelled something in her bag. They took my son and his girlfriend to the back room. They were adults so they did not allow me in the back room, they held them back there for about 30 to 40 minutes and then let them go. They came out of the room and said that she had weed resin in one of her bags and the dog smelled it. Long story short they still let them board the ship with me.
Good morning Tony. First off, my wife and I DO NOT do drugs. That being said, I think that making those people loose their cruise was totally unfair. What is the difference between what they done or a passenger who sneaks alcoholic drinks on board. If Carnival wants to enforce the rules that they have in place then it should be the same for one and all.
Unfortunately with cbd there are technically disposal rules and holding rules. So it is possible that legally the cruiseline/port could not hold the item or just throw them in the trash. And depending on where she was coming from the amount of rhc remaining in the cbd coule be avove the legal limit in Florida.
It's on the prohibited list for several cruise line. I just checked Royal's and it's on there. But so are electrical extension cords (it does not say surge suppressing cords). We had our extension cords confiscated ONLY one time. All the other times, no one seemed to be bothered by them. I agree with most everyone that this seems harsh for CBD gummies.
I cruised out of Port Canaveral in April and they had dogs there too. I think they should have let her throw it away and continue her cruise. Thats a little much to not let her cruise over something that was not illegal.
What’s truly frustrating is that there are people who use CBD and THC for medicinal purposes - like people who have PTSD or sleep anomalies, whatever the reason. If it is a prescribed medication by a physician, I think it sucks that you can’t take your gummy medication with you - it would be like denying someone their vitamins because the food on Carnival isn’t nutritious.
If I bring on booze and I KNOW they are prohibited, they better just throw it away and keep it going 😂 This is ridiculous... Sorry to hear someone had to deal with this
I boarded Carnival Glory, in New Orleans, in October 2022 and when we entered the port terminal a veteran in a wheel chair was coming out and said they asked him to return his gun to his car before he could board. You would think to know not to bring a hand gun into a cruise ship. He wasn’t kicked off of the cruise.
Carnival is a private company. It was getting out of hand with the amount of weed smoking on board and they simply had enough. Good for them for enforcing the rules.
My family are avid cruisers on Carnival and ww were recently booked and paid on the Jamaica cruise out of Galveston. My son was denies boarding becuse one of his birth documents was no lionger accepted. We had used these same documents on our last two cruises , but we were informed the policy changed 6 months ago. There was no notice of changes mentioned at the time of booking and nothing on company website. My son was treated very rudely and callous by the Carnival employees and threatened with arrest. My opinion of Carnival has suffered greatly because of the treatment my family recieved.
Port employees are not cruise line employees. They are contract employees for the port. This is not Carnival's policy it is TSA'S. You should have looked it up before the cruise.
I like the cruise news. I think if a passenger voluntarily relinquishes a banned item, and if the amount of a banned substance is within, or less than legal limits, and that passenger can present a physician's prescription for it, then that passenger should've been allowed to bard. The ship's physician should then have been informed of the passenger's need for medically prescribed items of this type. The line's behavior in this matter was despicable, and uncalled for. Thanks for sharing.
I doubt the doctor's note would make any difference in this particular case. Medical marijuana isn't allowed either, doctor note or not. I agree about the volunteering to toss it though. Other than drugs or dangerous things like weapons, they let people give up every other thing out there and still get on the ship, including booze.
Read the policy people! In United State is ok to have, but the cruise ship have many laws they have to abide by. Other country would just arrest you. There are rules, just have to follow them. No matter if you threw them away, people still sneak them on. On cruise side on this part.
They should have been allowed to give up the items and allowed to board That being said… now i am scared I will make a simple mistake!!! I was not aware a bluetooth speaker is not allowed!!
Interesting. I wonder if the punishment depends on the port. A friend of mine was pulled out of the dog sniffing line in Galveston because of CBD gummies. The port people pulled her into a room, went through her bags, and confiscated the CBD and her vitamins. They told her they would have to test the vitamins because they weren't in the original bottle. Anyway, she was allowed to get on the cruise. I think they could have just confiscated the CBD and let them on the ship.
That was definitely extreme. Other cruisers on the same sailing probably had liquor in shampoo bottles and boarded undetected :( Carnival needs to step up security ON the ship to make passengers feel safe while fights are breaking out instead of harassing folks over meds.
Exactly. I wonder what, exactly, they hoped to accomplish by keeping that scary CBD user off the ship? Honestly, even the ones using THC aren't the brawlers. Maybe they need to worry more about giving their bartenders the actual backed up power to cut people off when they've had to much instead of being petty like this.
@@DenaInWyo They have drug sniffing dog exactly because people have been trying to smuggle drugs on the ships. The point about the dog is he will alert to CBD or Coke and what's to keep someone from trying to slip Coke on board and the handler thinks oh the dog is just alerting to the residual CBD? So the choice has to be not to have it at at all because smugglers are devious. Many of the people caught were just testers to see what they can get away with for next time. Just a few weeks ago, two women tried to smuggle 3 kilos coke they got in Jamacia on board and claimed that someone slipped it into their backpack when they set it down (ROFLMAO!) It makes sense that they wouldn't allow boarding so that this won't be abused by the ones with bad intent. Having said that, the check in process should have a list of prohibited things so that people keep it in their head, because one cruise line in the same family may allow things another won't.
My husband brought a knife on, it was his pocket knife. He carries it all the time and did not think about it being there. They confiscated it before the cruise, and afterwards we got it back. We could have been in that same position over that. The rules need to be applied equally. I think I'm an attorney will get ahold of one of those incidents, and it will cause the cruise lines to change their position on that at some point.
On a serious note, I cant thank you enough for doing this video, Really. I am a resident in a legal state, and a daily 420 user for legit medical reasons, was totally thinking about how to bring on actually THC edibles, although I would not have chosen gummies, but really doesnt matter as it triggered the dog. F That, Ill just drink more, because thats safer, right. LOL
That was definitely not a fair ruling. They cared more about what it was specifically. They should have treated it like every other item on the same list. Precedent has been set countless times. Bad call.
Understanding the ban list is one definitely something you should be aware of. But I don’t understand how it being confiscated (especially since she agreed to that) wouldn’t have been sufficient. Things get confiscated all the time and people are still allowed on the ship??? I’ve never cruised carnival but things like this make me less likely to cruise with them.
Haha. I love your Labor Day joke. I worked in the Mother/Infant unit of my hospital on Labor Day and that's what I kept thinking too. PS. our chick-fil-a faked us out at breakfast time too. They opened at 8:00am.
It does suck but maybe the concern was them getting off in port and getting more and bringing it back onboard. I do think its a tad ridiculous but a lot of the times people do not want to touch the legal side of things. So its easier to just "follow" the procedures. Its a shame for sure, they should have been able to board.

Chick fil A in Virginia was open today. We tried the new sandwich with pimento cheese. Happy Labor Day to all!!!
I say they should have let her throw them away. It wasn't like she had a boatload of drugs on her-the poor lady used them for sleep!
Not to mention the veteran!
But how do you know they are being truthful?! And I think there is a big difference between bringing on a iron and this item!
I had to Google what it is lol
@@blessedbeyondmeasure-sisdebI don’t think it’s in a different league. Seems unfair And unreasonable
@@blessedbeyondmeasure-sisdebeven if she wasn’t being truthful and she uses them for I don’t know, arthritis instead…. Why treat her like a criminal though
@@13thAllieCatIf you don’t know such drugs are contraband in a foreign country, she will rot in jail there. So she’s getting off gently and allowed to return home.
If carnival keeps being this unfair then people are going to start looking for another cruise line..
Absolutely outrageous. Very unfair to penalize this couple.
A similar thing happened to us in Tampa several years ago. A fellow got 'sniffed' by the dog and he was pulled in to the special little room. They simply confiscated the smokables and sent him on his way.
Tough! Love! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I have a hard time believing this couple was not allowed to board and wonder if there is more to the story. Is it possible this person has been caught before or they were abusive to the agent?
Or when she was asked, denied she had them....
I hope you're right. Otherwise, this was an injustice.
I agree that this seems more likely.
Oh please tell us your first hand account of what happened. Oh you’re event there so you don’t know?? Then maybe we should 🤫🤫
Oh crap! That’s sucks!!
Happy Labor Day to all the workers
Carnival was in the wrong this time! It wasn't pot, it wasn't a weapon, it was just some darn gummy bears to help her sleep, and she offered to toss them.
Very educational. Had to look up what CBD even was - had no idea.
With all the fisty cuffs on board, maybe Carnival should hand out CBD gummies upon embarkation
AZ Chick-fil-A is open, just different hours. Love your videos!!
Carnival has gone overboard with this.
Love your humorous introduction!! 🤣
I do feel it is a bit over the top...but as long is something that is applied consistently as opposed to randomly I do not feel there is a problem. The only problem would be not applying the rule/outcome consistently and fleet wide
Wow! That’s ridiculous!
It's illegal to bring on a cruise ship under Federal law. The vlogger is full of crap. Carnival doesn't run port security.
My wife brought an iron on NCL. They kept it and gave it back at the end of the cruise.
Wow that sucks! for them.
CBD is not “drugs.”
Our Chik Fil A was open-at least the one I drove by but it was lunch not breakfast.
This is absolutely ridiculous!!!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Unfortunately with cbd there are technically disposal rules and holding rules. So it is possible that legally the cruiseline/port could not hold the item or just throw them in the trash. And depending on where she was coming from the amount of rhc remaining in the cbd coule be avove the legal limit in Florida.
They should have let both families throw them out. Very sad to hear.
That’s ridiculous she was willing to throw it out.🙄🙄🙄
What’s truly frustrating is that there are people who use CBD and THC for medicinal purposes - like people who have PTSD or sleep anomalies, whatever the reason. If it is a prescribed medication by a physician, I think it sucks that you can’t take your gummy medication with you - it would be like denying someone their vitamins because the food on Carnival isn’t nutritious.
We have recently cruised out of Galveston and the DO have the dogs there as well. 🐕
If I bring on booze and I KNOW they are prohibited, they better just throw it away and keep it going 😂
This is ridiculous... Sorry to hear someone had to deal with this
This is crazy but you have to make sure you follow the rules...
Your fault: every cruise line tells you to read the contract and what documents you will need to board the ship.
Smuggling CBD on board a cruise ship is a violation of US Customs regulations. It's not simply a cruise line prohibited item. It is against the law.
The legal limit is zero.
Read the policy people! In United State is ok to have, but the cruise ship have many laws they have to abide by. Other country would just arrest you. There are rules, just have to follow them. No matter if you threw them away, people still sneak them on. On cruise side on this part.
That is ridiculous. They should have let them throw it away just like all the other items.
Great shit Tony, looks like we get dressed out of the same cabin closet, 😂😅 but so true.
They should have been allowed to give up the items and allowed to board
That being said… now i am scared I will make a simple mistake!!! I was not aware a bluetooth speaker is not allowed!!
Hey Tony, the Chick-fil-a in VA was open on Labor Day. We ate lunch there.
This for sure either has more to the story we don't know about, or was simply a worker on a power trip.
Has anyone considered that Carnival ports at international ports. Many of these countries deem THC and CBD illegal.
That penalty was extremely harsh.
I agree it’s ridiculous. But Carnival is very clear on this so too bad lady !
That was definitely extreme. Other cruisers on the same sailing probably had liquor in shampoo bottles and boarded undetected :( Carnival needs to step up security ON the ship to make passengers feel safe while fights are breaking out instead of harassing folks over meds.
I wonder if they kick people off the ship if fights break out. If at sea do they throw them in the brig and then throw them off?
True, but alcoholic beverages are not illegal in the USA, right?
@@morgee1040 neither is CBD.
I have been on many Carnival cruises and smelt people smoking pot on several. CBD gummy should be the least of their concerns!
Chick-fil-a IS open today (at least in PA where I got lunch today!) 😀
On a serious note, I cant thank you enough for doing this video, Really. I am a resident in a legal state, and a daily 420 user for legit medical reasons, was totally thinking about how to bring on actually THC edibles, although I would not have chosen gummies, but really doesnt matter as it triggered the dog. F That, Ill just drink more, because thats safer, right. LOL
😂
We embarked on Carnival out of Baltimore, and there was a canine security officer. Pretty impressive to watch!
That was definitely not a fair ruling. They cared more about what it was specifically. They should have treated it like every other item on the same list. Precedent has been set countless times. Bad call.
that is insane... after thrown away reprimanded yes, but then let on board
Seems like a harsh penalty for what seems like a minor infraction.
That is ridiculous!
Maybe it was concealed because she knew it was illegal?
With the Carnival stories that have been coming out lately, I have no intention to ever cruise with them.
@@mcwebber1It wasn’t illegal.
Haha. I love your Labor Day joke. I worked in the Mother/Infant unit of my hospital on Labor Day and that's what I kept thinking too. PS. our chick-fil-a faked us out at breakfast time too. They opened at 8:00am.
Well... Don't do the crime if you can't do the time...
The dogs are at Baltimore also - was on the Legend for the Greenland & Canada Journeys Cruise in August
It does suck but maybe the concern was them getting off in port and getting more and bringing it back onboard. I do think its a tad ridiculous but a lot of the times people do not want to touch the legal side of things. So its easier to just "follow" the procedures. Its a shame for sure, they should have been able to board.
Tony in Lakeland Chick-fil-A was open I went !!
It's prohibited don't bring it. They should have been able to cruise! That's ridiculous! You have a very good point about prohibited items.
