@@dr-ok3sn Yes, the C/A238 were based on the 213 chassis but the previous 3 generations were all based on the C-Klasse so don’t act like it’s a surprise.
I compared the two and purchased the BMW. The driving sensation in the BMW is far superior as is the quality of the interior. The Mercedes has a wow effect when you get in, particularly at night, but everything you touch is disappointing whereas the more modestly styled BMW interior feels really good to the touch and has better ergonomics. I picked my M440i convertible up at BMW World in Munich one week ago and absolutely love the car.
I went to Mercedes Europe in Brussels a while ago, the E-class touring is a beautiful object, the rest is nothing to brag about. I can still drive my X5 F15 for two years and then after 12 years I am no longer allowed in the low emission zone. So as I have been thinking for a while, it will be a new X5 or a 330e Touring. By the way, in Brussels certain races drive quite a bit with Mercedes, a specific audience. And then there are the leasing companies. BMW is starting to launch strange and unusual objects and they should stop doing that. Like that large front / radiator. On the other hand, BMW offers more general confidence in terms of quality and looks.
Mercedes: “We’ll just give the new C class coupé a few extra inches of length and re-name it the CLE to make you think it’s related to the E Class. And charge E class pricing.” Meanwhile, the interior room, fit and finish is all C class. What an embarrasment.
It’s cheaper than the outgoing E class. Is google too hard to use for you? Or are you challenged. Instead of being happy it’s a real coupe he says embarrassment. Yeah you are one for the car community
@@v12-s65 Okay.. So you can't yell at people and ask if they are challenged when you won't even bring up which country you're talking about. In AMERICA, the manufactured suggested retail price is only a $4000 difference between the two models.
The interiors have really fallen in terms of quality for Mercedes. It looks good at first glance, but once you sit in one and start feeling the materials, there's cheap plastic everywhere. BMWs generally have better-built cabins in that aspect.
I traded in my 2018 BMW 125i convertible for the 2024 Mercedes CLE 200 cabriolet with AMG package and am very happy with my decision. I find the exterior of the Mercedes looks more elegant and the interior cabin more luxurious, while the BMW seems to be going for a more overall sportive feel. I live in Switzerland, so the same package and options were available from Mercedes than in the EU.
The Mercedes interior is not good on quality at all. The BMW has superior build quality and really comfortable seats but the android dash graphics look hideous.
thank you for your review , I ordered the 2025 4 door grand coupe m series and thank you for your choice , I had 4 mercedez, and a bmw , had to do the bmw again , its is a awesome car !! cant wait to get in the USA
Very useful comparison Unfortunately there are only a few coupe's left nowadays, so very much appreciate your video!!!! I really do love the looks of the Mercedes and honestly hate the front of the BMW. However your video confirms my earlier assumptions/experiences: BMW drives better, more quiet and better build quality inside. Also your highway part confirms (for me) to opt for the 6 cilinder, not for performance reasons but for more a way better sound and lower rev. Really would like to see a comparison of both with the 6 cylinder versions. Seat wise: my personal preference are Peugeot / France seats; meaning don't want the strong grip and appreciate the softer seats; to me BMW "standard" seat in a 3/4 series are relativity narrow, only a 5 provided good comfort, however BMW offers recommended seat upgrades for the 3/4. Mercedes seats are okay but your review confirms that the Mercedes seats are too hard for being comfortable confirms my own experience and NOT offering sensible upgrades (Hoping I'm wrong in the case of the CLE?). The additional noise level in the Mercedes is very very likely caused by the sun roof window; talking from my own experience (had one with and without) ; a sun roof is very nice though always causes way more noise at higher (130+ ) speeds. From your current comparison I will choose the BMW, despite my heart is with the Mercedes for its looks, though knowing the BMW adds that much to the pleasure of driving one, so I will try to forget it shitty looking front ;-) . Wondering how the 6 cylinders are comparing... mostly likely the same result ??? So when possible please compare both, really would love to hear your opinion! Personally I will decide around a year from now; Audi has dropped its A5 Coupe .. so don't need to consider that one anymore when buying new only :-( .
I must say that artifical leather is nowadays in most cases better option than animal skin. It’s easycare, it doesn’t smell, it looks really good. Also Alcantara can be way better than leather. Of course for many customers natural leather will be the most premium upholstery and it is good to have a choice when you configure your dream car. Greetings from Poland! PS BMW 4 cabrio 2024 is totally awesome!
I traded in my 2021 E-class a beautiful car,got the CLE-450 I love it&especially how you turn the car off and see all the lights&mercedes benz logo, lol.
The CLE is awful, it's an E-coupe sized C class - not a combination of the two. The C class interior is unacceptable for a car of that price and absolutely despicable for a car of the E class "tier".
I have said from the time when the CLE first came out. This car combines all the cons but gives up all the pros of the C and E coupe. Interior design, interior space, exterior size, price, B pillar, literally everything. The only thing better is the tech.
I am a long time Mercedes-Benz owner, how on this occasion I think from a looks point of view the BMW is a nicer looking car. The MB interior is much nicer, and hopefully the seat comfort is improved with the microfibre.
@@profphilbell2075 the Benz interior appears high quality…until you start poking around at the creaky and brittle plastic all throughout the interior space.
Easy win for BMW in this test overall, although still don’t like that large front grill. Would most like to see a comparison in performance and handling between new M4 and an equivalent new AMG CLE !
Love the attention to detail in all your reviews, thank you. However, one annoying thing is constant reference to "animal skin" seats & trim as veing inferior. Over long term ownership of several Mercedes Benz cars over a 25 year period, I've found the Leather seats to be more durable and comfortable than their alternative materials. Leather seats are always a bit stiff and uncomfortable until they soften and flex with wear. Personally, I would avoid seats with alternative materials and go for full leather trim in future vehicles.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ruclips.net/video/S1aNZeoatmE/видео.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ruclips.net/video/nP_CvLlaFlI/видео.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. Also a group of researchers and German journalists from public media could recent directly trace the connection between car animal leather production and illegal burning down Amazon rain forest: www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? Remember that animal skin leather is no different to fur, fur is just leather where the hair is still on. And fur is widely not accepted for clothing anymore, and of course not for cars. We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future. Thanks for your detailed and well researched reply. My opinion is formed from experience owning 3 generations of E Class (I still own and drive all 3)... 2003 W211 E500 very high mileage, driver's full leather seat still in excellent condition and extremely supple and comfortable. 2010 W212 E350 low mileage, synthetic leather seats, materiral has hardened and stiffened over time, no longer feels supple or natural and starting to split 2018 W213 E63S, full leather seats and trim, all feels supple and comfortable, low mileage, material getting more supple with wear/age. I actually come from the plastics industry so I do appreciate that plastics are improving, but cars I've recently experienced such as Tesla, boasting Vegan Leather seats, feel cheap, flimsy and I doubt they'll be durable in the long term. Durability is also a great contibutor to reducing waste and scapping of older vehicles. Thank you again for your excellent reviews which are enjoyed in my family.
Mercedes is playing tricks, this is a c class and nothing new here. It’s just bigger than before. Quality is also sketchy with the merc. Creeks and squeaks , plastics all around.
Love these reviews. I simply insert your comments from every other Mercedes review. Not sure why you keep reviewing their cars when you clearly think they’re crap.
I dont think their cars are crap. With every single brand I point out the positive and the negative things. A Mercedes GLC for example is among my favorite SUVs atm and we consider even buying one
Thanks Thomas and Lea for a great review. Both of these sporty vehicles have weaknesses, imo. Mixed materials, cheap shiny black, no buttons, or no wired phone attachment I prefer the BMW aggressive look than the conservative Mercedes.
It`s easy you take a Mercedes cle 450 with 19 inch weels and animalfree interior and burmester soundsystem. Another great review and you are correct, animalfree interiors are the best espessaily for cows!
@@raul17843 The hole idea is that the meatindustri disappers and people eat plantbased food instead, so animals don`t get raped(inseminated) or killed(euthanized) or abused. And one way to do that is to not support the meatindustri by bying leather.
Super good video Thomas!! I was waiting for it!! I hope you can make another comparison of M440i coupe vs. equivalent Mercedes. Maybe just the driving part.
Thank you for reviewing my favourite car format, a coupe. As last ICEs before EV hell these are both worth it. They both have great exterior looks but I much prefer the interior UI/UX of BMW compared with the teenage space ship Mercedes. Both cars are far too big and heavy for a really exciting coupe, and something smaller and lighter would handle even better. I suspect both cars have far soggier steering than I want in a coupe - I want something which feels more like a go kart. At >€80k both are poor value if your main concern is handling and steering.
I'm very biased towards the BMW since I'm in the minority that absolutely loves the big grill. Besides that, I feel that these 2 cars are in different categories. Meaning that, the BMW is more of a sporty looking car and the MB is more of a fancy looking car.
I would like to do a blind test to Thomas about the seating comfort. Because I think the second you hear it is animals skin seats, they are immediately worse in comfort. Otherwise good video again👍

Yeah I already did that. Of course there is good and bad quality with every material source. I invite you to come over and test these 2 vehicles for yourself ! :)
I still haven’t seen a single reviewer say that these seats are uncomfortable. Indeed as soon as animal leather is being used, Thomas must trash it. Reviews are always good, but bitching about something just because he doesn’t eat meat makes no sense.
@@risso3710 I can very well differentiate between the ethical dimension and the comfort dimension. I can say that the seats are comfortable but they shoulndt come from animals. In this case here, the comfort is bad. Other people who had a seat in the vehicle confirmed my impression. I have tested about 2000 car seats in my life, believe me I can compare.

Hello @autogefuehl love your car reviews, they are the best! I wanted to ask when you will review the Ford Puma 2024 and the new Explorer as I am thinking in purchasing one of these vehicles.
The steering is an option for bmw since the F series. It’s a 330, 4cyl… not the same on a 340, not the same with other suspension….. all about money ! Interiors on Bimmers with Idrive 8.5 look so cheap now !!😊
nice video thomas, showing people the pro's and the con's. the bmw is interior wise obviously the winner. it looks and is much more premium with better build quality and materials. but sadly the next generation will have a lot of costcutting just like the newest x1,x2,x3, newest 1 series etc... the reason this 4series has good quality is because its 4years old (better strategy from CEO back then), when they used to care about quality and luxury, now their nr 1 priority is costcutting, just like mercedes has started the trend. one of the many more examples: headrest from G01 x3 is big and thick, on the newest X3 its thinner and smaller just like mercedes does. BMW copies mercedes with every bad thing: -front wheel drive entree models -no physical buttons for climate -thinner headrest -no exhaust
We have to confess the CLE is a good car as a car, but not by Mercedes standards. Still, it's a 4-seat Mercedes Coupe and that's a classic, this brand shouldn't leave the segment. The BMW is the better car here, BUT: If I am to choose between the 3 Series and the 4 Series, I'd rather choose the 3 Series. If I am to choose between the C Class and the CLE, I'd rather choose the CLE. And finally... a car in this class with a 4-cyl engine kinda makes me scratch my head. It's just me. To make me kind of think of a two-door car, one would have to buy me off with a 6-cyl at least. It's not my old Opel, but still these are 2-door cars. Maybe I'm not for coupes.
In Australia, a full option C300 is $105k, and a CLE 300 is $140k, the same price as C 43 AMG. They share the same engine and almost the same interior. I just wonder why would anyone buy a CLE 300?! If I really wanted to own a V6 then I might buy a CLE 53 but CLE 300 seems redundant to me.
The 4 series is the answer. Mercedes is laughably bad. It’s almost as though their product designers and engineers live on a different planet than the rest of us. They have dumbed down their products to the point of being a parody. Even the new G Wagen is a mess.
For me to be honest, both cars are amazing. They’re very beautiful and their designs are great, but if I would buy one of them, I would choose the BMW.❤
I'll get a Mercedes. When I'm old..and gray...and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire. I'll take down that book (brochure) And dream and weep of that soft look your tires had once, and of their corners deep. And how many loved your look, with a love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in in you, And the sorrows of your losing race.
@@borghorsa1902 that doesn't mean it looks good or fells good. In that case at least it looks good. But yes the iX's chassis is partly made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic !
Dont make this a personal attack on me or on people who chose not to eat animals. My information about the seat comfort and the materials is a factual based approach and every statement can be proven and repeated. BMW infotainment is faster and also has both a very good home screen now and good shortcuts. Mercedes is fine also but to me it always felt a bit slow in operation.
What I would like to know what people in general think which direction Mercedes is going with this CLE? If we would for example compare this morphed C and E-coupé into this new model to the old outgoing E-coupé. Looks are subjective but quality- and ergonomicallywise there’s in my opinion a lot of difference, I won’t go into too much details but the dashboard for one looks (imho) far more coherent in the outgoing car. I’m not sure but it appears that the “butler” has gone missing. The pricing tends to have an E-tag for what many people say a C-class experience and finishing (plastics). I predict that the update in three years time will strongly ressemble the than just updated E-sedan as they did with the 2022 update of the E-coupé. One more tiny nitpick Thomas. Is there actually a body connected to those nice legs of Lea (fair enough we had a small glimpse of her at the beginning of the review) or like we say in Dutch “Doet ze mee voor spek en bonen?” Auf Deutsch sagen sie vielleicht: “Sie macht mit für Spass und Freude”. She’s got a nice laugh though.
Regarding seating comfort at 42:49 Please comment on whether you feel getting the nappa leather would make the seats softer, more comfortable or is the microfibre or the standard artico leather still softer than the animal leather. Thanks

Tomas having to pre test announce that he has positive history with both brands so he isn't attacked by the fan boys in the comments for being a BMW lover Merc hater or vice versa 😆
Yeah, I was anticipating that. It's really tough sometimes, as soon as you decide for a certain car, people claim you are biased towards a certain brand and claim to know you better than yourself.
I've owned two new BMWs and they both were massively unreliable. My latest BMW, the water pump had to be replaced after just a couple months of ownership for a brand new car. My previous one, they replaced the steering wheel and the whole driver side door interior panel because the finishes were peeling off and the armrest broke. Not good, owned a GLK and over 7 years of ownership not a single problem whatsoever. BMW makes a good first impression but get the Mercedes for a quality made car
Thanks for the feedback! Which cars and model years were these? Consumer reports ratings recently show way less reliability for Mercedes than for BMW. I agree the GLK was very good!
I'm convinced that all the bells and whistles of cars these days are simply there to camouflage the failure of making a logically and safely operable, and gründliches Auto. Quite extraordinary how 'premium' cars are full of touchscreens and plastic, but yet, they have never been more expensive and inoperable.
This just seems like the typical "I hate premium cars" complaining. All car brands are getting into the big screens now and gimmicks. And the plastic part. Well... In past 6 years I have daily driven 10+ cars (flexible leasing), and really, until you have actually daily driven several cars from several brands, you'll stay here on the internet complaining about "premium cars being bad". In other words, you'll remain clueless.
Not really, they are fine cars. It's just the legacy technology that people cannot let go off, like engine sound and grilles. It's like people in 1911 complaining that cars don't make horse sound

And then it quickly derailed after that especially in the C and E class into a complete joke. I dont know much about BMW:s models though. I havent been in the later ones. Only thing I know is that the bangle-butt 7 felt cheaper inside than the old E34 and E39. Which were very solid.

I have driven both and bought the Mercedes. I live in North America and this car checks all my boxes.

Very useful comparison
Unfortunately there are only a few coupe's left nowadays, so very much appreciate your video!!!!
Thanks for the feedback!

2003 W211 E500 very high mileage, driver's full leather seat still in excellent condition and extremely supple and comfortable.
2010 W212 E350 low mileage, synthetic leather seats, materiral has hardened and stiffened over time, no longer feels supple or natural and starting to split
2018 W213 E63S, full leather seats and trim, all feels supple and comfortable, low mileage, material getting more supple with wear/age.
Always a question of quality indeed. There is shit leatherette and great leatherette out there
5:21 I think the Audi A5 is the real exception
The coupe they stopped making?
Looks great, but boy am i glad I recently got a 2022 E300d coupe. what a nice car
Thank you once again for a detailed review. Excellent as always.
🙏🙏
Mixed materials, cheap shiny black, no buttons, or no wired phone attachment
I prefer the BMW aggressive look than the conservative Mercedes.

The prettiest by far is Lea🥰

Well people eat a lot of steak, everywhere. Why waste the leather from the cows? Use it in the cars, don’t just throw it away! Why the negativity?
@@raul17843 The hole idea is that the meatindustri disappers and people eat plantbased food instead, so animals don`t get raped(inseminated) or killed(euthanized) or abused. And one way to do that is to not support the meatindustri by bying leather.
Super good video Thomas!! I was waiting for it!!

@@autogefuehl yeah I saw it, but it is M440i grand coupe not coupe. Still good. Thanks
At >€80k both are poor value if your main concern is handling and steering.
cheers m8 !
My cheap VW with frameless windows does the same door closing sound. It makes me feels good that I'm not alone lol.
So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.

www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/ard-story/videos/illegales-leder-video-100.html
In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter.

Mercedes Benz would be my choice as comfort is more important than sportiveness as roads now especially in the UK are very bad
The one to buy is the CLE53 AMG
Proper stuff!
I prefer actual animal leather as some leather is being thrown away vs using the entire animal.

@@autogefuehli still prefer real leather
Hello @autogefuehl love your car reviews, they are the best! I wanted to ask when you will review the Ford Puma 2024 and the new Explorer as I am thinking in purchasing one of these vehicles.
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏
Gotta take a look at that, at this moment I am doing the facelifted Kuga / Escape !
Strangely they've dropped the 430i in the UK, only models available are 420i and M440i now, with a near £16k price difference between them!
Buying a new 420i even at a discount is a complete joke. Mediocre performance for so much money.
wise choice there
most of people talks with criticism about glossy black surfaces but car makers still use them frequently in their cars ? 🤨
Yeah…
The steering is an option for bmw since the F series. It’s a 330, 4cyl… not the same on a 340, not the same with other suspension….. all about money !
Interiors on Bimmers with Idrive 8.5 look so cheap now !!😊
The legs are the best
nice video thomas, showing people the pro's and the con's.
the bmw is interior wise obviously the winner. it looks and is much more premium with better build quality and materials. but sadly the next generation will have a lot of costcutting just like the newest x1,x2,x3, newest 1 series etc...
the reason this 4series has good quality is because its 4years old (better strategy from CEO back then), when they used to care about quality and luxury, now their nr 1 priority is costcutting, just like mercedes has started the trend.
one of the many more examples: headrest from G01 x3 is big and thick, on the newest X3 its thinner and smaller just like mercedes does.
BMW copies mercedes with every bad thing:
-front wheel drive entree models
-no physical buttons for climate
-thinner headrest
-no exhaust
thanks m8 !
Maybe I'm not for coupes.
thanks for the feedback!
In Australia, a full option C300 is $105k, and a CLE 300 is $140k, the same price as C 43 AMG. They share the same engine and almost the same interior. I just wonder why would anyone buy a CLE 300?! If I really wanted to own a V6 then I might buy a CLE 53 but CLE 300 seems redundant to me.
oh wow that price difference is ridiculous!
People who want a coupe often do not want a sedan
Review the facelifted I4 M50 please
Preferences: Exterior: Mercedes front but BMW rear. Interior. Has to be BMW. The Merc looks and sounds cheap. Driving: The BMW is a clear winner.
The 4 series is the answer. Mercedes is laughably bad. It’s almost as though their product designers and engineers live on a different planet than the rest of us. They have dumbed down their products to the point of being a parody. Even the new G Wagen is a mess.
C class level quality selling at E class pricing.
The BMW has a face only its mother could love.
The BMW Wireless CarPlay / Android Auto works flawlessly. Never drops out.
with the new OS yes, however the phone still overheats more, especially when running maps. Even if you dont charge
For me to be honest, both cars are amazing. They’re very beautiful and their designs are great, but if I would buy one of them, I would choose the BMW.❤
I'll get a Mercedes.
When I'm old..and gray...and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire.
I'll take down that book (brochure)
And dream and weep of that soft look your tires had once, and of their corners deep.
And how many loved your look, with a love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in in you,
And the sorrows of your losing race.
I'm interested at the 'RUclips Web' in carplay screen
Thanks, i watched this and i bought the BMW 425i for my wife.

Very nice comment
❤
The CLE looks so much better
Thanks
best is to get the microfibre or the artico

Which one is more luxurious in your opinion (not sporty)?
