- I'm on a Boat! I'm on a Boat! Take a good hard look at the Bristol Packet Boat! We had a wonderful time on board the Tower Belle, and used the opportunity to film a small part of Bristols' beautiful waterways.
My Son John is a song we've been singing together almost since the start of the band back in 2012, and it's still just as much fun today as ever.

JD, Robbie and Andy: "So we're all going to wear normal shirts, right?"
Dave: "... NON."
I think Dave understood the assignment better
Imagine getting on a boat and having four guys randomly start singing stuff like this. That would be awesome
There's people in front of them on the boat, that must've been a great boat ride.
The boat on JD's side at 25 seconds is for sale. I think the world needs you all to have an S.S. Longest John!
Full lyrics
My son John was tall and slim
And he'd a leg for ev'ry limb.
But now he's got no legs at all
For he ran a race with a cannon ball
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
Well were ya drunk or were ya blind
When ya left your two fine legs behind
Or was it sailin' on the sea
Wore your two fine legs right down to the knee
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
I was not drunk, I was not blind
When I left my two fine legs behind
Nor was it sailin' on the sea
Wore my two fine legs right down to the knee
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
Each foreign war I'll now denounce
'Tween the King of England and the King of France
For I'd rather my legs as they used to be
Than the king of Spain and his whole navy
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
I was tall and I was slim
And I'd a leg for ev'ry limb
But now I've got no legs at all
They were both shot away by a cannon ball
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
Well, I was tall and I was slim
And I'd a leg for ev'ry limb
But now I've got no legs at all
They done come off on a cannon ball
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
Timmy roo dun da, fadda riddle da
Whack fo' the riddle Timmy roo dun da
Wish I had a group of lads I could do this with. Just randomly go to places or such and sing. Bring some joy to somebodys life
this was the best ad for to get me to visit Bristol, good job lads
Very nice
Perfect song for a magnificent battle ship
This song was how I discovered the longest Johns and is my favorite shanty of all time and I'm so glad they made a remake.
one of my favorites, hope we get a studio version soon
Amazing.
Love that you’re able to get out & about now. Beautiful scenery & a cracking song 🥳🎉
Fingers crossed that all will be well for the Shrewsbury festival as I’m hoping to attend🤞🏻🤞🏻
the beautiful harmonies mixed with the awesome background of bristol and you have a heavenly combination, perfect mood! would love to hear you guys singing this out on the seas more!
Wow this is amazing. Smokey Bastard used to be the guys I would listen to for this song, but now we have something much more... adequate.
I've played this video like 50 times over time, and just noticed the "moving the camera around" thing and now my mind is completely blown! Wauw!
Bristol looks so beautiful, and you guys singing like this makes the place looks magical as well, so goooooooooood
This bangs and its 360!
Finally I can jam with the boys
Loved the song kinda trippy that the video still moves even when paused!
Magnificent Gents!
Great song!
ive just discovered this shanty and I Love It!!
I have a soft spot for this song thank you
THEY'RE BACK HELL FUCKING YEA! It's been too long since I've checked back. How are you guys?
Simply beautiful
Y'all look so chill, this is great
Favorite shanty ever! You guys have amazing voices
There's also a fab version under the title my son Tim by Francis Flynn.
RUclips's subtitling was actually pretty good on this one. The only thing they consistently got wrong was turning "roo dun duh" into "rude and uh" which is honestly totally fair and I'll never hear the chorus the same again.
The thing about Andy gesturing (which he totally made this My Son John video for me by doing so much of, aww
What I don’t know is how I landed up here on your video. But, what I do know is I definitely dug it. Nice Job Mates, Nice Job 👍
This is such an underated shanty. You lads did a great job, keep it up!
What, “no Apple 🍏 Dave” 😂😂
Didn't know I needed to hear this until I heard it.
What a beautiful song and a really cool video!
Amazing sound for you guys beeing outside and on a boat :)
Simply adequate! 💕
never miss boy's. keep it up!
Love it, great to have a look around too!
Amazing! I've been waiting for this one for so long! I love it!
You guys should definitely collab with David Coffin! He's Sea Shantey royalty!
Love it, simple. love it.
Cheers! Here's to the crew me lads, this song is hype
Good🏴
play this in your car on max volume and with windows down and you got yourself a grand ol time!
That was awesome
Well done!
Waited on this song
It ended to soon lol I was vibin and everything 😭😂🖤 thank you guys, I love the great work and hope you keep it up
Ahhhhh, you don't seize to amaze me guys, keep up the good work
this song seems to be a fascinating variant of Mrs McGrath. being raised since i were a boy off Mrs McGrath and other slightly more shanty esque bruce springsteen songs i would really like to hear your rendition of the slightly more grim Mrs McGrath.
Great video...thanks for the ride! Great sound, lucky people on the boat. 🏴☠ 🎧 ❤
Adequate! I'd give a lot to spend some time with you guys on a boat (no matter what kind of boat)
Ide prefer a sloop
Thoroughly adequate! Is Robbie wearing the hat because he's trying to cover up his beautiful purple hair? Be bold!
More likely the sun, the reflection off the water is extremely bright. Hence Dave's shades as well.
@@Endolei Good point. Hadn't thought of that. I guess I just want to see that lovely hair. :D
Finally a song the Irish stole from England and never gave back! Great work gentlemen!
The lyrics remind me of Two Coats Colder's song, "The King's Navy".
Brilliantly done, boys!
also remind me of Mrs McGrath. all the songs seem to have the same origin.
they all seem to originate from Mrs McGrath as an old irish song.
Yesss this is one of my favorites of yours, so glad to see you remade it!
Ooooooooo another 360° video! Adequate!
Just thought I'd share that this is my current favorite, it's brilliant.
Man I've been waiting for this
Absolutely loved this my fair sirs
I've been waiting so long for this one! Thank you so much :)
This is the sole reason I bought a quest 2. 360 tlj videos
took me about 30 seconds to realise that you could pivot the view
First time ive ever seen a video like this ... Holy hell talk about a immersive video lol
We need this one on Spotify lads!
I’ve always known this song as Mrs McGrath - not exactly the same but similar. Love this version though!
Thank you boys for making these videos and exposing me to some songs I haven't heard yet and may have never heard.
Trippy to watch but very entertaining, well done!
ADEQUATE, but could do with more apple eating 😂
This is one of my favorite songs you guys do, love it!
Awesome sound! So well sung.
Nice 360° Video on 5K! Even your voices too! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I saw you guys but wasn't too sure if it was actually you or not, pain
Cheers!
Such a cool video! Good music usual :)
Ahh, my son John, also known as Guns&Drums, and Johny boy, and Ms.Mcgrath, and Drums&Guns, and Soldiers song, and bretonix, and Johny I hardly Knew Ye, and last (and my favorie)-hip Hurray
Brizzle! 💕
Many lives have been lost to the Bristol Pusher in these waters. Be careful.
Adequatober 10th, as always ❤️
I too once tried to race a cannonball, but instead I now have 6 legs. Could someone help?
ah, a return to the classics
Incredible as always!!
Gaargh my nemesis the 360 camera again. I didn't think there was anything that could make you guys sound bad. May the land, sea, or sky turn to swallow it whole!
I like all of your singing i give it a 10/10 from me. Bristol looks soo cool I'm only at Redcliffe in Australia.
Excellent, I'm a John and I've got little legs and I also thought Britain didn't have any real talent... Cheers 🍻
JD's lil belly rub cracked me up
Cheers
Would LOVE this as a standard/album style video that I could throw in my sea shanties playlist!
It feels like pulling out teeth waiting for this on Spotify
But where's Dave's apple?!
This song deserves to be sung with everyone. Enjoy.

Is nobody going to mention the chad reference to Lonely Island in the description? :D
Love it!
Watch out. I have heard the Bristol Pusher roams those streets
Would love to see your rendition of the chemical worker song (the process man)
JD's Dad recorded them singing this at Calne. Its on you tube.
Thank you I've been waiting for this
Fun!
It's like I'm really running a race with a cannon ball...
Now THAT'S cool.
More community sea shanties please those are awesome
