Lovely waking up to lots of new subscribers today and on my birthday too! 🙏

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments - I really feel like I've been showered with blessings, and on my birthday too 🙏💙🎂💙 Much love to you all
Happy birthday! (Sorry I’m a little late lol)
I think i prefer this song sung by a woman. It brings such a warm feeling. Great job
@@thecollectorcorner1519 many thanks:) I seem to have recorded it a few times now!
Wonderful just wonderful 😊
@@keithedmundson2318 many thanks 🙏
You'll know you're English the moment she starts singing and you feel your ancestors in your blood.
Don't forget to sub to her sister's channel the harp player, whom she duets with sometimes. Oh and they both have a studio CD of music I hear if you email her! ruclips.net/channel/UCby_QY_cLJBApnSI8-Wcn1Q
Most delightful
almost creepy how I "felt" this right as I reached your comment
I haven't a drop of it, yet I can certainly feel the magic, too. England is a treasure to beautifully adorn the earth. ♥️
Would that be our German/Saxon, French/Norman, Danish/Norwegian/Viking/Celtic/Scottish/Irish/Welsh, Roman/Italian ancestors we have?
There is little sweeter, or more soothing than the voice of an English songstress, especially when singing such a lovely little folk ditty.
Folk ditty?
@@moonbeamchaos Aye lad. A folk ditty.
@@DisKorruptd I’m a lass, laddie, and this “folk ditty” is a poem called “Tree Song” written by Rudyard Kipling, set to music in 1970 by Peter Bellamy. A marvelous song in, if you will, the folk tradition, but not a folk song and, for heaven’s sake, ANYTHING but a ditty!
Chill out. I don’t know why you’re so bothered by this! The comment didn’t bother me
@@moonbeamchaos ah, sorry lass, I'm a lass meself,
sweet voice. I love Bellamy who put the words to this melody
It’s a Rudyard Kipling poem Mr Jive. Bellamy did the melody and grafted it together.
@misdangered4326 indeed
Beautiful cover!
So cool. She makes it look easy. There wasn't even a little out of tune. Sensational
Ah thanks very much ducky
This comforts me.
I'm new here. You made me cry a little... 🥰
Oh i really don't want to do that! I sing to tell the stories of old and hope to spread joy a little too ❤️
Honestly, they were good tears. 😍
Not a drop of Angle, Jute, Saxon, Gael, Dane, Norman, or Brythonic blood in me, but this is the Britain that I dearly love.
Dear god, this is beautiful. Imagine an echo, slow strings, and a bodhran drum. Truly the heartbeat of our people is in our song.
I have such a drum somewhere x
Eat Bake Sing Play it! 👍🏻 This song deserves the full traditions of our people
@Will Stanley You have my 100% support. And should you produce such, I’ll gladly share and promote it to everyone I know 👍🏻
@Will Stanley thanks lovely 😊
@@r3ptile584 oh and i have since done (half) a drum version but unfortunately ended up going wrong and muttering expletives!🤣
Beautiful song by a beautiful voice.
Possibly my favourite English Folk song. Beautiful rendition.
2:52 of being not such a hardened man.
Beautiful, moving, thank you.
Makes me sad for what we lost .
I know what you mean
Absolutely .. seems these days all that was good has been lost from England
I totally understand. Take heart though! This song , even if it sounds quite old, isnt very old at all
It was created from a poem written by Rudyard Kipling in the 1900s, and wasnt put to music until the 1970s.
These feelings are timeless, because the Ancient things they represent are timeless, and these traditions will survive, as long aw we keep them alive, even if that means creating new ones
But we can do our bit go out and sing if you have traditions go and join in, if you want to come carolling in sheffield I'll meet you for a sing n a sink
Who are you directing this at?
Lets all sneak off to the woods to conjure summer in!
Oh we will next year! I shall go sing this on the Summer Solstice morning 🌞🌞🌞 seems a long time away 😲
Sadly here in the states Maples are taking over. Rare to find any of those trees. Where I grew up there was an Ash and Palonia in the back yard. In the woods where Chestnuts took the blight , stood many a tall oak . The smell of those falling leaves in fall was wonderful . How I miss that. Maple leaves falling just aren't the same .
You did Kipling proud with that. Your singing is up there with the late Peter Bellamy's Oak, Ash & Thorn. Excellent!
Have you heard David Coffin's?
@@LordHoward no but have now so thank you
@@EatBakeSing gotta say, his and yours are my favorite versions of this song... love the simplicity of them- one voice, no background music
Lovely feminine voice!
love this, you are a precious gem!
Glad you like my comment. There is something quite charming about the way you just wander along singing through the countryside. You have a lovely voice and if I should get the chance to hear you sing live somewhere, I shall do it. It's great to see tradition perpetuated.
Fantastic.
Beautiful, thank you for this bit of light and warmth upon this foggy and dark times
Truly wonderful
That was lovely, thank you! ❤

@@EatBakeSing nice one mate, I'll check em out. Cheers!
I found the lyrics :D
[Verse 1]
Of all the trees that grow so fair, old England to adorn
Greater are none beneath the sun but Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Chorus]
Sing Oak, and Ash, and Thorn, good sir
All of a midsummer's morn
Surely we sing of no little thing
But Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Verse 2]
Oak of the clay lived many a day o'er ever Aeneas began
Ash of the loam was a lady at home when Brute was on outlaw man
Thorn of the Down saw New Troy Town, from which was London born
Witness hereby the ancient try of Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Chorus]
Sing Oak, and Ash, and Thorn, good sir
All of a midsummer's morn
Surely we sing of no little thing
But Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Verse 3]
Yew that is old, in churchyard mold, he breedeth a mighty bow
Alder for shoes do wise men choose, and Beech for cups also
But when you have killed, and your bowl it is filled, and your shoes are clean outworn
Back you must speed for all that you need to Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Chorus]
Sing Oak, and Ash, and Thorn, good sir
All of a midsummer's morn
Surely we sing of no little thing
But Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Verse 4]
Elm, she hates mankind and waits, til every gust be laid
To drop a limb on the head of him that anyway trusts her shade
But whether a lad be sober or sad, or mellow with ale from the horn
He'll take no wrong when he lieth along 'neath Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Chorus]
Sing Oak, and Ash, and Thorn, good sir
All of a midsummer's morn
Surely we sing of no little thing
But Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
[Verse 5]
Oh, do not tell the Priest our plight, for he would call it a sin
For we've been up in the woods all night, a-conjuring summer in
We bring you news by word of mouth, good news for cattle and corn
For now as the sun come up from the south, by Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
Sing Oak, and Ash, and Thorn, good sir
All of a midsummer's morn
England shall bide till Judgement Tide
By Oak, and Ash, and Thorn
What a beautiful voice you have. There's something about folk songs that move you in a way nothing else does. Hope you enjoyed your birthday!

Incredible
Beautiful 👌🏻
"For now is the sun come up from the south with oak and ash and thorn~" *Slowly turn the camera toward the sun. Clever, it's so beautiful.
Not planned at all but just unfolded in the moment ❤
You have such a beautiful voice!! The ashes are such sacred trees. I am the sole groundskeeper for a 17 acre wooded church property (established 1810.) We have a grove of blue ash trees. We are located along The Olentangy river. Also we have Red Elm, Ohio Buckeye, Burr Oak, PawPaw trees, Hackberry, Black Maples and so so much more.
Oh I love the Ash. I’m burning some now. Best wood for a fire. I love the look of the tree in the winter. Those black buds. What country are you in?
@@EatBakeSing yes they make good fire wood. They make good bows too. The Ashes are suffering right now and they deserve more respect. Their wood is valuable but they are critically endangered and need our help. By Oak and Ash and Thorne.
@@highlandergrog6041 I think my new longbow will be ash actually 😊
@@highlandergrog6041 I didn’t realise they were in such a dire situation. That’s sad. Is that ash dieback? (I’ve heard something about it)
Every week I have been publishing old singing videos and the stories behind them from when I first started recording. Birthdays and a bit about home-education crept in this one too open.substack.com/pub/julierussell/p/from-the-song-archives-c33?r=blh8o&showWelcomeOnShare=true
