I am a big fan of the Defender since it appeared in original Lucas Arts games. Let me drop on some technical trivia about the ship.
It is faster than the A-wing, carries cannons more powerful than the X-Wing, has tougher shields than a B-Wing and manoeuvers far better than an Interceptor. It also carries as many missiles as an Y-Wing, has ion cannons, tractor beam, jamming unit, and one of fastest hyperdrive units available on starfighter-sized ships.
If there is any measurable quantity on any starfighter, the Defender does it better.
And then there is the Missile Boat which is a ship designed to *effortlessly* kill TIE Defenders. And oh it does.

2 years ago (edited) Same here too, even though I'm more into mainly building ships from Star Trek franchise out LEGO's such as Klingon and Romulan starships. I'm not always into TIE Fighters because in most of the Star Wars movies and TV Shows I've seen, the standard Imperial TIE Fighter has always had too many flaws in it's very WEAK design that I would like to point out.
List of Standard TIE Fighter Design Flaws:
1. It doesn't have any shields.
2. It is fast, but lacks maneuverability, because of the shape of it's terribly designed bow tie shaped wings.
3. It lacks a hyper-drive.
The Imperial TIE Defender however, is in my opinion the much faster, more maneuverable, and much deadlier TIE Fighter design than any other TIE Fighter design, and here is why this ship is my ONLY favorite TIE Fighter design that I really like.
List of Reasons why I like the Imperial TIE Defender Fighter More:
1. This ship has much better speed and maneuverability.
2. It also has a hyper-drive.
3. Better shields, so that it could take more hits.
4. It's three wings are designed and angled much better, which makes it much faster and more maneuverable than the standard TIE Fighter.
5. And finally it also has much better added firepower, as it has a total of six blasters on three wings.
Pro trick : you can watch series on flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies lately.

All we’re missing from the tie series is a tie heavy from solo, and the two tie’s from rogue one
And those heavy bombers from Galactic Battlegrounds, experimentals from X-wing Alliance, submarines from WEG sourcebooks... Decade ago, before Disney, there were over thirty TIE designs. :P

Heavy tie fighter or tie brute...
To be brutally honest, aptly named TIE brute is not very popular design, appearing in a single short scene in a single not very popular or successful movie. On top of that, we're probably going to slow down with TIE craft to give Bricklink some breathing time to regrow the stocks of common pieces I've used perhaps a bit too much.
Scharnvirk-Jerac then what about the imperial patrol dropship from rebels or the IDT from legends?
They still need to do the tie striker from rouge one

This looks amazing! I just finished building Jerac's TIE Fighter, and intended to build the TIE Interceptor next, but seeing this, now I'm going to build the TIE Defender first. Amazing work, and it is my favorite TIE variant.

But the Phantom is so damn ugly. And how did Corellian Engineering end up working with Sienar Fleet Systems?
The Phantom certainly breaks the family mold with its elongated cockpit but whoever said Corellian Engineering had a corner on that market? Maybe cloaking a spherical ship is too difficult and the engineers needed the space for the cloaking system and the second crew member. A Tie Avenger would be cool to see since the Defender replaced it. People seem to be mentioning the Hunter a lot too. Always look forward to seeing your designs.

You just have a few more tie fighters to make: the tie striker, tie reaper, tie brute, the mining guild tie fighter, the inqusiter’s tie fighters, tie silencer, and the red first order tie interceptor from Star Wars resistance
That is a lot but we are looking into many MOCs for the future!

Would've been sweet if LEGO did a UCS version of this. Still, for a minifigure scale this is art. I would've only changed the ovular cockpit for a rounder one and sacrifice the minifigure fitting part of it.

I agree. I have the original set, which was based on the legends version. It has a rotating cockpit which the cnon version doesn't have.
The smaller engines on the back aren't more ion engines but maneuvering thrusters. The TIE Fighter has two as well as the Interceptor, which is why the Defender is more maneuverable, and why it sometimes is shown having six thrusters.
You mean the red dots are not the engines? If it is true, then what is an engine in case of Vader's fighter?
@@Scharnvirk Not exactly sure where the engine is located on Vader's TIE, maybe behind or in front of the hyperdrive, but it does show the maneuvering thrusters on the lego model. It has four of them as well, which is how many it should have. The Defender is supposed to have six to my knowledge, three around the engine and one on each wing.

As for the Defender, it is hardly canon so hard to tell what is it supposed to have.

The top wing has ion cannons not laser cannons, or it did in legends.
Yeah the one shown in the movie is a prototype, it doesn't differ much from final version but it in instructions the top cannons are a bit different to signify them being something else than the main laser cannons.
