For folks asking about the routing: I worked on this, by myself, for about a week. I was working on other things at the same time, so this took me a couple hours every day, up to maybe 20 hours total. And the routing itself is not very "high tech." Really just a bunch of trial and error. Each Ante starts with a "scouting phase" in which I try to spend as much money as possible to see as much stuff as possible (Booster contents and the shop queue). Once I know what's available/possible, I decide what actions to take and then move onto the next Ante.
@@serbianbossman I answered this elsewhere, but it's for the memes, basically. 5's would score about twice as much compared to 2's, but e117 is close enough to the same as e116. You know, I commented on the Endless cap about the nature of numbers and how even the 10^308 score the game treats as infinity is, well... infinitely far away from infinity and in reality "no closer than my Deuce High Card" for a handful of chips. Well, haha. I guess you wanted a stronger High Card 2. Can't wait to see how we escape numbers before we escape Ante 8.
This might be a terrible idea, but I would like to see you going through the process of routing a seed. This run is no longer the high score on this update. On April 8, ortnick got naneinf by ante 8. However, the seed no longer has the exact same RNG because of the newest update.
For seeded runs, I'm assuming the positions of jokers/consumables don't matter when it comes to copying, only the order of purchase does? So in theory, when getting more than one unneeded consumable, correctly picking which one to sell will end up changing which other consumables get copied by Perkeo, is that correct?
Exactly. It's just super annoying when you have 20+ consumables to 1) route which are the correct ones to sell and 2) mouse over them click the correct ones during the run.
For seeded vs unseeded skills, I see it as TAS creators vs regular speedrunners. First knows ins and outs of the game, the code, the very fabric of the game, and can create mesmerizing things over time studying. I did Polychrome 2 for the memes. Poly 5 gets you roughly twice as many points, but e117 is about the same as e116. Eternal Buskin is also possible for Face Cards instead of Hack for low cards.
how does the procedural randomness in balatro work, the standard packs in particular? Does opening standard packs change the content of other standard packs? Do they get blocked if there is a playing card that would appear in the pack in the shop? also: 27:55 - "We want to maximize the chance that perkeo gives us immolate." Can the consumable that gets copied be manipulated?
I wonder if you can control which consumable perkeo will be copying. Maybe the order of consumbles matter? If so I think you can make pretty huge optimizations
Lots of different skills indeed in Balatro... Skill needed to beat challenges is even yet another third skill... I spent 4 days until i got a good seed for the jokerless, but recognizing what is good is not easy... In the first few dozen runs i was just fumbling around
Imagine you copied a 5 from the beginning instead lol, the chips woulda done some work haha. Still would've added very little compared to 1x10^116 lmfao. That was a sick run, great optimization Dr.Spectred
Challenge idea for pvp content: give all players the same new random seed, and they have to produce the best non-engame score with X time of preparation
One small thing I noticed about your run. At 16:45 you used one temperance sold your egg and still had temperances left. The temperances were worth $41 at this point. But then at 21:16 , you used all your temperances for $38. It would have been better to use all temperances initially, unless you wanted to copy one, in which case you still leave one. But you still were better off using your temperances before selling your egg knowing you will be using them next turn regardless.
I've had it brewing for a while, but he was the first to do it. He made copies of all one Joker, DNA, whereas here I was going for two synergistic Jokers. On this seed, you can get Eternal Dusk and Buskin but not Eternal Idol. Eternal Mime but not Eternal Baron.
Seeded runs are still very impressive. It's similar to routing out a speedrun, there's a lot of fun in that. Is there a seed parser or gamelog that you can use to figure out the rng of the run, or did you do this via trial and error? I'm also curious, what affects rng in this game? Can your rng manipulate future shops, or card orders by playing different hands in previous blinds in the same ante (or different ante even)? Does rerolling shops affect card order as well as the shop queue for that ante? I'd love to know if there's a list that describes this somewhere.
Incredibly cool video to watch. Im just interested, at 1:05:17 could you not have used the strength card to turn it into a 3? it would still be retriggered by Hack and you would recieve 60 extra chips that would be multiplied by that mult. was there a reason this wasnt done?
Hey could you include a little list of unlocked jokers used/needed in your runs. I was replaying your run and realised 20 mins deep that I didn't have a joker because I didn't unlock it yet. Otherwise great video thank you very much for all the hours spend finding and perfecting these runs!
It would have to be eternal, which is not possible as only shop jokers (or those bought in packs as well) otherwise it copies one perkeo and destroys the one it does not copy
Each increase in the last card's rank would add 55 chips to the final score; so if it were: 5: you'd end on 445 chips instead of 280, 1.08e117 4: 8.83e116 3: 7.59e116 It's not substantial, but it's also not *nothing*
Just curious about the strategy at 7:00 since it confused me: wouldn’t it make more sense to buy cryptid, then buy devil, then open arcana, make gold, use cryptid, then use the death card? and then to get egg use temperance since you’re just going to get another one back anyways. I’m not sure if buying cryptid there messes with the cycle, but if it doesn’t im curious why you didn’t choose to do that.
In the moment, I didn't want to add more cards to the deck. After using all the Immolates, the difference between having 8 cards left and 10 cards left is kind of a big deal when your hand size is 2.
@@drspectredcompletely makes sense. I had only just started the video so now as i’m going along a bit it’s coming together much better. awesome video and great job on this by the way :)

just curious but what accent is it that makes it so that you emphasize the 'e' in eternal so much? Not making fun of you or anything. Just not something I've heard before.
Naturally, I mumble a lot when I talk. When "teaching," I make a conscience effort to enunciate more. As a consequence, I end up overcompensating often, as with "eternal."
You could actually go for infinite jokers by using the eternal certificate that pops up on ante 3. So regardless of hand size, it'll always guarentee you a card in hand

Do they get blocked if there is a playing card that would appear in the pack in the shop?
also: 27:55 - "We want to maximize the chance that perkeo gives us immolate." Can the consumable that gets copied be manipulated?
It picks a random consumable. So if you have 4 copies of card A and 1 copy of card B, it's a 80% chance Perkeo gives you a new copy of card A.
In the first few dozen runs i was just fumbling around
oh my lord, that final hand sounded like a plane taking off
Imagine you copied a 5 from the beginning instead lol, the chips woulda done some work haha. Still would've added very little compared to 1x10^116 lmfao. That was a sick run, great optimization Dr.Spectred
Yeah it would have been a little less than twice as big
Violet boss: I am large
A single 2: Let me demonstrate a fraction of my power.
If you use too many of the Temperances, Perkeo makes two copies of Ectoplasm instead of just one, and you lose out on a bunch of money that way.
@@drspectred Ah ok cool
bro took more notes on this one seed than i did in all of school 😂
Take a shot every time "I happen to know" is said, it's a deadly game
Amazing content my guy!
Your voice is very soothing
Just a quick question… did you get the ankh + ecto dupe strat from nanokami on discord?
I've had it brewing for a while, but he was the first to do it. He made copies of all one Joker, DNA, whereas here I was going for two synergistic Jokers. On this seed, you can get Eternal Dusk and Buskin but not Eternal Idol. Eternal Mime but not Eternal Baron.
@@drspectredeternal idol would be insane
this is some groundhog day stuff. gaining almost infinite mastery of a limited set you are able to infinitely control
I'd love to know if there's a list that describes this somewhere.
he routed it himself
nothing rng is affected by what hand you play i think
Incredibly cool video to watch. Im just interested, at 1:05:17 could you not have used the strength card to turn it into a 3? it would still be retriggered by Hack and you would recieve 60 extra chips that would be multiplied by that mult. was there a reason this wasnt done?
Hey could you include a little list of unlocked jokers used/needed in your runs.
I was replaying your run and realised 20 mins deep that I didn't have a joker because I didn't unlock it yet.
Otherwise great video thank you very much for all the hours spend finding and perfecting these runs!
this is like Dr. Strange Vs Thanos - 50,000 posible futures
Hey I was following along but at 2:43 I keep getting a buffoon pack instead of an arcana pack so you know why this is happening? Thank you.
it was on an older version of the game
@@zumi_cxs damn. So seeds in general don’t work after too many updates just because various pieces of data got changed? That really sucks.
The EEEEEEternal pronunciation was brutal to listen to lmao
Super interesting so far, I'm not far in, but was there ever an argument for copying ankh with perkeo to make more perkeos?
interesting, i hadnt thought about this before and am now wondering too
actually, i dont think you can get eternal on legendaries
It would have to be eternal, which is not possible as only shop jokers (or those bought in packs as well) otherwise it copies one perkeo and destroys the one it does not copy
since the perkeo isnt eternal, you can only ankh it once
I love how helpful people are in Mr. University's comments, don't get to see community like this much anymore.
Does the +5 Chips times however many Hacks (plus one) from using Strength in the last Arcana pack make a meaningful difference to the final score?
Each increase in the last card's rank would add 55 chips to the final score; so if it were:
5: you'd end on 445 chips instead of 280, 1.08e117
4: 8.83e116
3: 7.59e116
It's not substantial, but it's also not *nothing*
So weird to run across a random YT channel with wacky high IQ vibes

just curious but what accent is it that makes it so that you emphasize the 'e' in eternal so much? Not making fun of you or anything. Just not something I've heard before.
Naturally, I mumble a lot when I talk. When "teaching," I make a conscience effort to enunciate more. As a consequence, I end up overcompensating often, as with "eternal."
@@drspectred understandable
You could actually go for infinite jokers by using the eternal certificate that pops up on ante 3.
So regardless of hand size, it'll always guarentee you a card in hand
Sadly the check for no cards in hand happens before Certificate procs, so you still die
This run is crazy. You should have held onto this for April 1st and then pretended it was an unseeded run.
