Again, love the vibes in the making of these educational vids, its hard to find this laid back vibes with other creators, which is what makes you stand out. The other creators try to compete themselves by being extremely organized and explaining things in a professional manner. This content is exactly what I need because thats the teaching style Im looking for, real laid back, no one is rushing, but trying to train a new employee in 10 minutes without the feeling of it being all rushed, just the way I like it.
I learned so much from you man, it's really a gift that you put all this Ableton content for free on RUclips, something that I would totally pay for, appreciate you!
It makes sense that the quantization can't work if we're late because it can't go back in time and play it _before_ we pressed the button. But I wonder if some contingency options are available. A sort of pocket threshold. If you hit the note right before the grid, then obviously you meant for it to play on that next gridline. But if you're wayyyyy early, beyond the "pocket threshold", then the system could assume that you're late, and then you could configure the desired behavior for late hits. Presumably the most popular choices would be "just play it now and don't quantize, as I'd rather be a little late than on the completely wrong beat" or "don't play that note at all, it'll sound better without it".
i wonder if you can use some sort of side chain from the drum track where the midi note click happens to pressed note when beat signal is found and no retriggering occurs until key is lifted
you can use the arpeggiator for this by settings steps to 0 and gate to 200% and the beat syn to 1/4 or 1/8 note, this way it always triggers on bead subdivision and the gate being 200% allows for the note to not keep getting retriggered
Wowzers, Underbelly. Your video stuff is wonders and happiness! Boy oh boy, do I wish i had access to this tutorial back when i was creating MY live performing music stuffs. 👍 🇮🇪.
oh my friend you are truly sensational! This tutorial helped me a lot in several things that I haven't yet mastered about Ableton, could you make more videos about live act? I would really appreciate it, I follow you from Brazil. I would like to know how you indicate the groups in the red box. Could you recommend a purchase link for the apc 40 mk2? please
Thanks so much for this! This is the best explanation of a live performance set I've seen so far. Is there a chance you provide a template for this live setup?
This is automation done right. The riskiest I've ever done live is beatmatching vinyl. I might have to dust off the weighted 88 key midi pianee and carve up some old tracks.
Useful, especially the input /output bit, although I'm not sure of how this would apply to a techno liveset perhaps that focuses more on developing a few synth sounds over time than playing melodies.
i’m confused do the tracks in the instrument rack actually contain programmed MIDI that’s being played - what’s the function of playing them then? or what exactly is being automated and what is this dummy clip? thanks!
Global quantization and a knob mapped to the song tempo is a method. Set the limits to the BPM you need, cuz the range will otherwise be absurd and you'll change the bpm in 0.01 steps. There's a script option that works way better, but involves basic coding knowledge and a lot of dummy clips. Let me see if I find the name, cuz it's literally just a free GitHub download or sth... brb
90% of the set was the same bpm, for the last two songs I set the bpm on the scene so that when I triggered the scene the whole set automatically jumps to the right tempo
bro but what if u dont play an instrument :o i do soundscape stuff (might just be the wrong place) and i got the apc40 and a midi keyboard. wondering how i can avoid static play pressing besides some live modulation good video tho
Can anyone confirm for me if you are better off automating your instrument rack on and off to save on cpu? I was under the impression that whatever plugins aren't being used in the rack would pretty much be inactive, so I currently run all of my set patches through one rack rather than having 1 rack per song etc.
Edit: [QUESTION!] Do I simply mix to my liking and feed the FOH the stereo output as if the PA were just my studio monitors? Insight of people with more live performance experience needed dearly. Thanks in advance! ✌️😑 vvv --- [OC] --- vvv The heck? Just this morning (GMT+1, Berlin) I was searching for a video like this and didn't find anything useful. And now there's this? The fuck is this coincidence?!
hi underbelly i use samples from youtube and im in hop hop i was just wondering how would i go abt using a sample it correctly as far as adding my own drums and bass this older sample or new i mean i had a idea but i feel like im freestyling the know how i get somewhere but i want to actually kno wat im doin instead getting this hit or miss mix
"they're gonna walk out the door and hit their elfbar" had me absolutely creasing
😅
I lost all my midsides after that HAHA!

Your videos never fail to make learning so fun
I totally agree!

An educator and an amazing performer! I did NOT need to hit my elfbar after this one!
Wow just what I needed, you can do no wrong!
Funny and informative as always, Underbelly.
Wowzers!! Have a great day too!
would be very cool to see you prep a track for live performance on a stream or something!
Yes! Show us the track prep work please! Also how do u deal with tempo? Are you following global and automating the changes?
Very helpful. Thanks!
Thank you for this video
Live performace is probably my favorite thing as a beginner musician, so this is gonna help alot
That's pretty cool, some nice ideas here.
You are awesome!
Incredible value in this video, thanks a ton !!
Oh yeah, thanks Underbelly! I had my live performance a couple days ago, and I had a hard time trying to figure out how to use the headphones cues
APC 40 MKII for the win

Goateed 🧡
great video thanks for the knowledge!
thanks for this !! been trying to get a live set going

Wowzers!!
Now i can get a lil closer to performing sets similarly to Daft Punk and Justice!
great stuff - very funny too!
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Another excellent tutorial!
Amazing job dude!!!
I got recommended this guy on reddit 😭
@6:29 wowzers
me watching this knowing I'll probably never perform my music, but saving just in case 😹
Hell yeah 🤘🦊
Please make a video how to build that template ❤
Turn. Them. On.❤
Genius ❤
Thank you.

thank you
excellent video (:
F amazing dude
wowzerss!!! :0
youre funny and smart}}thank you
Cool video, had to watch it 0.75x to catch everything 😅
Except we can’t get the APC40 Mk2 anymore, correct?
Thanks for the video though. Performing w Live is a dark art.
what is the song at 1:43 ?
I noticed with the fader all the way up on the APCmkII it stayed at 0dB instead of going up to +6dB. Where can you change this preference???
had to manually remap it :/
Are all your songs in the same tempo or can you change the bpm based on the clip that is playing?
Global quantization and a knob mapped to the song tempo is a method. Set the limits to the BPM you need, cuz the range will otherwise be absurd and you'll change the bpm in 0.01 steps. ClyphX is what you need, bro.

Sick
i want to do that but i suck at producing and can only press play on clips :)
Me when future riddim live set 😱
how does your CPU still hold up with all these instances of serum and other vst's in the project?
most plugins are turned off most of the time
bro but what if u dont play an instrument :o i do soundscape stuff (might just be the wrong place) and i got the apc40 and a midi keyboard. wondering how i can avoid static play pressing besides some live modulation
good video tho
They gonna leave the club and hit the elf bar😂
Thank you. Respectable level of nerd stuff here

What's the first track on deck b?
Better option is to link ableton and rekordbox togther , ableton cant really replace DJing with dj controller and dj software
i love u
Emilianenko?

oh here we are. another tutorial that uses the apc40 that is out of production and i'm suffering a lot for this
God bless
