  • Charlie Parr is one of those musicians I never thought I would have the opportunity to work with. A favourite of mine for many many years, his storytelling has always spoken to me in the most profound of ways. I also feel that Charlie could be called "Your favourite musicians favourite musician." So many artists speak of Charlie as an inspiration and and rightfully so. So often his stories are tales that so many of us could relate to. Tales of ordinary folks lives and the trials and tribulations that come for us all- and this addition to the archives is no exception. Dedicated to his mother Ina May Parr who passed away earlier this year, this version of his story "Remember Me If I Forget" is one that quite aptly, I shall always remember filming.
Charlie wrote the following and I think it's important to share the significance of this story in his own words:
"I wrote this song years ago after my aunt Mildred passed away, it was inspired by my mom sitting at her bedside comforting her before she died.
I never thought that these words would apply so perfectly to my mom’s own situation just a few short years later after she’d struggled with the debilitating and frankly horrible effects of Parkinson’s Disease. By the time she was freed she no longer recognized my sister or myself, and she had been trapped inside her own deteriorating body for more than a year. She had never missed an opportunity to tell Julie and I how much she loved us, and we loved her dearly and miss her constantly.
Thank you, mom, for lessons and love and kindness. We’ll think of you every day, we love you."
I would also like to say thank you wholeheartedly to both Charlie and Mikkel Bee who is accompanying him on his UK/EU tour for being so accommodating, and to the incredible human and mutual friend of us both, Elaine Holmes, who introduced us and helped make this possible in the first place.
Also a huge thank you to Cosmin Gurau for working some magic with the audio!

Immediately sunk into the guitar. Voice was even better. What a genuine match made in heaven between his voice and instrument. Amazing!

The only other person I can think of whose playing style is similar to Charlie’s is Doug Martsch. Look him up if you don’t know who he is. Especially his solo acoustic material (Now You Know album). He’s also the lead singer and guitarist for the band Built to Spill.

Parr's guitar playing is so distinct, he wouldn't have to sing and you'd know it was him

"remember me if I forget" becomes so poignant when you get older and you see your parents slowly bent forward and walk slower...

Charlie, I love the subtle way you are playing this, as compare to earlier versions, Cheers sir....and I see maybe an extra finger working in there, glad for you with that.

Charlie is a treasure. A profound and beautiful musician, songwriter and human being. I can only image what a saint his mother must have been.
