Never played a guitar in my 51 years on this planet...always thought it was beyond my ability. Decided to pick up an acoustic a few months back. Since then I have followed several other online instructors as well as taken one on one lessons locally before finding this man. After just a couple of his video lessons, I am convinced Marty Schwartz can teach a blind man to see. His detailed, methodical approach just makes learning the guitar easier and more enjoyable. The man is magic as far as I'm concerned...I shall call him "The Magic Man".
Amazing tutorial, this took me fifteen minutes to learn . Probably another couple hours to really master. I've only been playing for a couple weeks. You sir are a born teacher and a master of the instrument
I love RUclips. First started playing in the 70's. I'm not great, or a rockstar, but when practiced up do sound pretty decent I must say. Back in my day, we'd often have to catch songs when they aired our favorite stations and write down a few more of the lyrics and progressions' sometimes for years. I kept spiral notebooks full of "in process " songs. Always has been a progressive, meditative tool & and good friend most my life. Coolist thing is many of my renditions were "close" and now with the advent of the internet I have, and still do to this day, rework more accurately those old masterpieces. Wow! I never new until a year or so ago that Kashmire was so beautifully simple. Sounds great. These lessons have helped me tremendously, to keep my one true love alive. What a friend- at the beach, campfires, parties, biker events, parks, downtown sidewalk benches (Romeo, Mich), family events, the list goes on and on, and on and on (it's a highway song...) Guitar has always helped me to easily feel part of the scene, to fit in, rather than be just a spectator. Made raising my three kids more fun too! Come on! Daddy taking the kids to the park, yeah, the beach! Can easily watch babies all day if I got a guitar to jam on. And women? Has served me well. Better than a puppy, or even Jack Daniels! (Eventually turning to 12 steps, of course. Shhhhh.) Right on!! (I'm 60) Mentally. Spiritually. Socially. It's like working on your own personal, lifelong puzzle. It also taught me humility- to not try to be better than you, rather to continuously be better than "me". I assure you I've run into 16 year olds who after two years of playing blow me away with a natural God given talen,way beyond what I will ever achieve, much less possess... Jealous? Never. Respect. Appreciate! Happy for them. Guitar has been a challenge with endless growth opportunities for me. I feel it's made me a better person. My God! Just reading this makes ME want to learn guitar- but then I remembered I already do!

I just bought my first guitar 2 hours ago, decided it's time to give that a try. I've played piano a long time ago but never tried a guitar. I'm 34 by the way. Anyway, I was browsing RUclips for lessons and stumbled upon your channel. I can already play a piece of "Sweet home Alabama" and now I'm learning this intro. I can only say you are a legend! Your way of teaching makes things really easy (to understand, still need a lot of practice) but I finally know what I need to do! I think I'll stick with your lessons and let you know how I go after a while! Thank you for doing this, you are a legend!!
I hope you've stuck with it, next year is my 1 year mark and Marty has honestly changed my life by getting me through enough songs that I can enjoy what I play and thus... keep learning. I'm 33 yrs old, it's never too late, nobody I know has less musical ability than me and still, I can learn everything Marty teaches. Incredible. His explanations and the way he sings the chords has me singing it along by accident.
Weirdly enough, I'm also 34 and I just started learning the guitar. And thanks to Marty I've pretty much got this part of the song down, wasn't that hard. Then I decided to give Metallica's "nothing else matters" a try - wow, now that is just waaaay beyond my paygrade. But I'm gonna keep trying, with a bit of help from this channel.
35yo just started think its a right of passage now I'm slowing down enjoy just my own time. Part of it for me was just my kids are getting a bit bigger their starting music, and its good for them to see dad learning something, struggling with something stuff not coming easily, having to put the practice in etc.
Marty, I must say you are an excellent teacher without a doubt. I used to play guitar in a band when I was a teenager and very early 20s before life took over and I put the guitar down. I’m 60 now and just started playing again, and I must say it’s not like riding a bike. I have been frustrated with myself over it, but since I found your channel, it has breathed new life into my fingertips. Not to mention some blisters too. I have picked up a few songs from you that I never played before and I am enjoying rediscovering the happiness that guitar playing does for me. I wish you well and look forward to your next posting. Marty, you inspired me to go buy a guitar. When I was about 19 years old I took a few guitar lessons then quit because I couldn't tune the guitar. Now that tuning is easy with digital guitar tuners and youtube videos like yours, I've decided at age 66 to give it another try and I'm glad I did. Thanks so much. Oh buy the way the guitar I got is a Yamaha electric acoustic FGX800C and I love it.
Bravo!! I'm 70 and my husband is 75 and we play in one of the best damn bands in Central Florida - age means NOTHING! I can't imagine we will ever stop - we have played in bands together since we met in 1973. I wish you the best Bill S. My mother told me to play the guitar at some family function. One mean uncle told my mother "Charlotte the kid can't play, don't waste your money. I put the guitar down, picked it up now as a Covid player. I'm taking lessons but you have taught me more than anyone ever has and now I'm good. Thank you so much.

I just want to say thank you. I started playing an old acoustic guitar my dad had bought from some guy in college who wanted money for pot. That guitar sat with only three strings for my brothers and my entire childhood until not too long ago I remembered it’s existence. It's definitely a special song. I'm a marine and I listed to this song, hey you, and comfortably numb on the way to my wedding that early morning. Lyrics may not scream wedding day for sure 😂 but every song conveys so much strong emotion

Hey man, I have been playing guitar pretty much my whole life and my mother taught me the intro to this when I was little. I just wanna appreciate your video, it's helping me learn the whole song so I can play it for her. She had surgery on her hand and cannot bend her fingers certain ways, leaving her unable to play anymore. Hopefully it will bring some joy and good memories to hear the song that she taught me. My 4th month with Marty one hour a day! I think I did the most difficult part. I have started to think I can actually be a mid level guitar player if I continue this rhythm for a year! This song looked so difficult month ago but now after 4 months training it looks much easier!
I started playing at 16 (LONG TIME AGO). I played a lot for years and was self taught. So, I learned how to play songs...not guitar per se. I started with the seven beginner acoustic lessons and now onto this. I'm having a blast playing again! Marty is awesome! Wish I would have had teacher like in back in the day. you mean the chords? they are just simple "open" chords, it's pretty easy to learn them, their names are just letters, in my opinion drums seem impossible haha
I started playing guitar around 9 years old, sadly by 13 or 14 I gave up and sold all my equipment. Being 24 years old now, I regret that decision terribly. I recently purchased an amp and my friends fender squier strat. This is the first song I’m learning since I last played in 2013. These videos have been a blessing, I feel like my old self playing again. I’m at the solo part now!
Every time I watch a marty video I cant stop practicing my guitar. He makes it fun to learn and it's so satisfying hitting the right notes and chords. About 2 weeks of practice and I can already play most of the open chords! Thanks Marty!

Out of all the other guitar teachers online that I have seen, Marty you are my favorite by far. You seem to have a great understanding of what beginners like me need to know and treat us like friends. Thanks. You might not like me if we were in a room together because I would keep telling you to repeat yourself over and over and I would try to slow you down to '0.25' a lot, but due to the magic of youtube, I can do it all and still get the Magic Marty lessons at my speed. Having really shitty guitar lessons in my youth. I was forced 3 instruments and did learn to read music well. I love your lessons. I have my late dads guitar and I am really playing after 2 months. I followed your advice, my mom gave me a stand. I play at least 30 minutes a day. The progress is unbelievable. I still think I suck but my husband is in disbelief (he always calls me when I suck). He keeps recording my progress. I appreciate your lessons. I feel the progress, it is leaps and bounds. I have so many chord shapes, I memorized so many notes, I can tune and follow by ear. Thank you for the short cuts, confidence, and allowing all those old shitty lessons to make sense. Im still sometimes confused, but i can work it out with your lessons.
Marty has been teaching me guitar since 2009 in Iraq. He’s the best. People ask me to teach them how to play and I just tell them to look up Marty. I bought his rock solo videos a few years ago and although I haven’t completed them I felt like even if I never opened the package I had still gotten my money’s worth out of Marty. My mother told me to play the guitar at some family function. One mean uncle told my mother "Charlotte the kid can't play, don't waste your money. I put the guitar down, picked it up now as a Covid player. I'm taking lessons but you have taught me more than anyone ever has and now I'm good. Thank you so much.

This song is the whole reason I bought a guitar. May not be difficult, or even inspiring, but it soothes my soul whenever I listen to this song.
I just want to say thank you. I started playing an old acoustic guitar my dad had bought from some guy in college who wanted money for pot. That guitar sat with only three strings for my brothers and my entire childhood until not too long ago I remembered it’s existence. The freedom I feel when I can play a tune, especially like Floyd, is immeasurable. So thank you Marty. Every time I go home the guitar is right besides me and my parents couldn’t be happier.

Hey man, I have been playing guitar pretty much my whole life and my mother taught me the intro to this when I was little. I just wanna appreciate your video, it's helping me learn the whole song so I can play it for her. She had surgery on her hand and cannot bend her fingers certain ways, leaving her unable to play anymore. Hopefully it will bring some joy and good memories to hear the song that she taught me. My 4th month with Marty one hour a day! I think I did the most difficult part. I have started to think I can actually be a mid level guitar player if I continue this rhythm for a year! This song looked so difficult month ago but now after 4 months training it looks much easier!
I started playing at 16 (LONG TIME AGO). I played a lot for years and was self taught. So, I learned how to play songs...not guitar per se.
I started with the seven beginner acoustic lessons and now onto this. I'm having a blast playing again! Marty is awesome! Wish I would have had teacher like in back in the day. I might have never put it down.

you mean the chords? they are just simple "open" chords, it's pretty easy to learn them, their names are just letters, in my opinion drums seem impossible haha

It just takes a little time. Doesn't take long to learn simple chords at all. Just learn those and you can make a simple little song.

I started playing guitar around 9 years old, sadly by 13 or 14 I gave up and sold all my equipment. Being 24 years old now, I regret that decision terribly. I recently purchased an amp and my friends fender squier strat. This is the first song I’m learning since I last played in 2013. These videos have been a blessing, I feel like my old self playing again. I’m at the solo part now!
Every time I watch a marty video I cant stop practicing my guitar. He makes it fun to learn and it's so satisfying hitting the right notes and chords. About 2 weeks of practice and I can already play most of the open chords! Thanks Marty!

Having really shitty guitar lessons in my youth. I was forced 3 instruments and did learn to read music well. I love your lessons. I have my late dads guitar and I am really playing after 2 months. I followed your advice, my mom gave me a stand. I play at least 30 minutes a day. The progress is unbelievable. I still think I suck but my husband is in disbelief (he always calls me when I suck). He keeps recording my progress. I appreciate your lessons. I feel the progress, it is leaps and bounds. I have so many chord shapes, I memorized so many notes, I can tune and follow by ear. Thank you for the short cuts, confidence, and allowing all those old shitty lessons to make sense. Im still sometimes confused, but i can work it out with your lessons.

I thought trying to learn guitar song on RUclips is useless. But when I found one of your videos it turned all around.
