What's really sad. I bet alot of the Donnieballday fan club accepted this type of knife. Either a beginner and not knowing the faults or even worse, knowing about them and just not wanting to get Donnie upset. So they kept quiet about it. Thanks for standing up and being honest. That's what the knife community needs more of. I'm glad more people are learning about KHHI's shoddy work.
I'm glad you brought this forward. Someone missed something big. There is supposed to be a second bevel for sure! I know during covid they were hit hard and rushed things out. While thickness varies due to hand hammering, the rest shouldn't be that way. They will fix it. Tell them everything wrong and they'll take care of you.
We've talked and they did in fact make things right. I understand stuff happens, it's a great design don't get me wrong. But to be honest I didn't like the interactions with them. At first they claimed I was wrong about everything and they had photo evidence that the knife was perfect when it left Nepal, even tried to blame DHL for mishandling it...until I told them to view the video. Even then they went on the defensive on certain things, like the burr being intentional so you can pick it up with your nail. And the wavy spine was because of the fuller. Other things they didn't address at all. But at the very end they did say it was rushed and they did make things right.

An owner wouldn't want to believe something could leave their shop that way. He knows he has some people to correct. They got hit hard with employee loss and a huge climb in orders. The national curfew didn't help too. I'm glad they're making it right. They're good people over there. Eventually I'd love to see a better video. Haha

@2y3 During the lockdowns they brought in a lot of craftsmen to help with all of the knife orders when if orders when some of their knife makers were quarantined.. Now only the masters are allowed to make dbad designs

Saw both of your concerned videos sir Al. On 11/29-2021 I made my purchase with KHHI in Nepal for a DBAD campmaster knife. One thing I did and still continuing is I'm constantly in contact and communicating with them before the purchase. I had no problem with them, but I'm in waiting process myself for delivery. It's near Xmas season so I'm thinking they may be in back orders and I gave them and myself some time for the delivery. It may take longer like how you went thru sorry to say. Hope you give that knife demo once you've worked out its flaws.. looks like a good knife for heavy usages from work,camp,hunts. I'm hoping my knife won't be a hurry job either. I wish I could tell you it had a happy ending but I can't. I actually held off from making another video on it because I wanted the issue done and over with. But I'll tell you, I sharpened the knife and wanted to replicate choirboyz cutlerys video with the cider block and 4x4 ...the results was shocking....the spine and the edge completely compressed in on itself. I sent pictures to 2 well known knife designers and weapons specialists, one is on tv lol....not to mention any names. And it was their opinion that no forging or heat treat was done at all on my blade....with the blade bend it matches the arch of a leaf spring....so I basically got a cookie cutter knife, cut and shaped from a junkyard leaf spring. So yeah I got majorly screwed.....and believe me I'd believe their opinion over anyone invested in khhi

Depends on the edge you want, as mine per say it came with an edge that reminds me of a dull hatchet. In that respect it will last all day, the finer edge you put on it the fast it will dull out. To give you an honest response, I'd wait until their covid lockdown is over and they get back to full swing, the quality just isn't there right now

Quality control starts with the maker of the knife. Most knife makers especially American have to much pride in what they make, to let any of the issues with your knife leave with their name attached to it. And them having poor quality control on the appearance, what you can see. Makes me wonder on what you can't see. Like proper heat treat and if the steel they claim is what it's supposed to be. I have yet to see any really hard testing on any of their blades. And of course they offered to give your money back after posting it here on you tube. They knew if they didn't it would hurt their business. Giving you your money back for one knife, probably help them sell a hundred. A win, win for them. Thanks again and I'm definitely gonna stay away from this shady sweatshop.

I have two Preachers and one of them had some issues that you mentioned. The spine had burs and the finger choil which was causing it to catch the leather sheath the same as yours. I do believe they were rushed during the pandemic and these were small issues that were easily fixed with some simple sanding of the problem areas. As for the edge it's supposed to be robust to hit bone (like an actual weapon) and it will rarely cut paper. I've yet to have an edge roll hitting hardwood or bone with a khhi blade, my condors will roll, I guess if you're looking for a "precision" paper cutting blade don't buy from KHHI, just my .02 cents.
It comes down to who do you believe,...the designer says yes it's supposed to have a secondary bevel....khhi say no it doesn't. And your right about the burrs and other things most of the problems are fixable and I even stated I could live with those issues....but I can't fix that blade bend/warp. That was the main issue with this blade and if you watch the video in the beginning where I show the thickness you can get a really good shot of how bad it is.
Luckily, you have the tools and skills to fix alot of that. You can fix the spine, put a good edge on it, take the burr off the spine, sand down the choil. The warp in the blade, thickness, and sheath issues make it a hard no for me. Thanks for the heads-up.
I respect the hell out of you Big Al for having the guts to speak your case, I grow and have ordered seeds that didnt pop and had to do the same, made a video and said my side, Im also a knife hobbyist and believe you, Ive come to realize that you can paint someone thousands of miles away as any sort of expert and the whole Nepal thing really sells, but the truth is you can get a much better knife made in a production facility , not some alley in an open firebox, expect some bs trolls who will try to run you off and discredit you.
I'm not your normal knife guy, I don't care about subscribers or RUclips popularity, and for integrity sake I have to be honest with what I do or there's no point in doing it. I sadly had a similar experience, no heat treat. I think they made the edge with a cinder block too, I could have tucked it into my boxers and had no fear whatsoever. Still on the hunt for a great civil war Bowie replica.
Certain things yes, not much I can do about the bend to the left unless I try to heat it straighten it then do a heat treat all over again and that stresses the blade. The spine is leveled out now and I put a secondary bevel on the edge to make it a good cutter and left enough meat on the bone so it can chop as well. They did eventually make things right but not after more delays, their bank was closed down and I had to create a PayPal account just to get my refund back which left me paying fees to paypal for the transaction. Not a very good experience for me
@@bigalbowie7206 I just ordered a custom blade from them; Never had any problems with them in the past, but sometime events, like Covid, affect a company with having to settle with employees that are not as skilled as the ones before. I guess we will have to wait and see....
I don't like how the whole situation went down, first the delay when the knife should have been completed. Bent blade, bad grind work, and only 5mm think when it's advertised as larger. When I left my review they said they had pictures everything was perfect, DHL must have mishandled it....I directed them to watch this same video. Where they still said the thickness was within there tolerances. Actually had to put it on a micrometer and send pictures ...the blade bend was never addressed. And the whole hassle of getting the refund. I seen alot of there past reviews on Google and I thought it strange that everyone that had a complaint khhi accused them of trying to "defame" them .....I hope your experience goes better, but as for me I probably will not be doing anymore business with them
@@bigalbowie7206 yeah, the spine problem as well as the thickness is something that you really can't fix. It's concerning to say the least. I think a great video is to test the living hell out of it and record the findings. It would be interesting to see how it would perform. With 5160 steel, it should hold up....but with the blade spine compromised you would definitely have to be careful.
I bought a Condor Undertaker Bowie that was not right, grinds, waves etc... I wrote them a polite but detailed email so they knew that I knew what I was talking about. They let me keep the bad one and sent me a new one in perfect condition , no shipping. I suggest sending an email or hopefully you sent one already. They will make it right I'm pretty sure. That's exactly what I did at first, but they said I was a lair, they had photos proving the knife was in perfect condition, even blamed DHL for mishandling the package. They was assholes in short and wasn't willing to help until they found out there was a negative review about it. Even then my refund was botched but I recovered part of the money anyway
Ray, these aren't mass produced machine cut. Hand hammering moves every piece of steel a bit different. Any blacksmith can attest to that. Sizes can be slightly bigger or smaller. The one Big Al got was not one of those. His was clearly rushed while swamped from COVID and needs to be replaced. His wasn't a matter of being off a bit. His was bad. The sizes usually are within a half inch in all directions plus or minus. But they are built for strength and use.
Dbad needs to get on to them as his name and reputation is also on them. It's a shame as that looks like one bad ass knife. But what you seem to have been sent is an expensive paper weight
I like case xx and believe me I've had some bad ones from them, the only difference is they didn't call me a liar and make excuses. They replaced it no questions asked. I can't say the same for khhi, they first called me a liar and tried to blame DHL carriers, and only offered to make it right after they found out there was a video, in which they made excuses and tried to say it's supposed to be that way even with dbad saying no it's not. And I can't even say the refund went smoothly because that was jumble fucked also. EVERY part of this transaction was screwed and went wrong. I could care less about the knife at this point it's how they acted is what bothered me the most

Hey Big AL, yeah as far as the sheath problem, it happens quite a bit. I have Kukris from several makers...that corner lip problem will eventually happen even with a proper draw by pulling and preasuring the spine against the upper wall. So, the best fix is actually Elmer's Glue. I slather the inside of the leather and fold it inside to adhere to the wood core (folded into it's original position). Let it set for 12 to 24 hours and it's good as new!!! Use black permanant marker if need be for discoloration and it will like the day it arrived! Hope this helps!
@@bigalbowie7206 the folded up leather is the common place that gets pulled out when pulling the Khukuri out. So, I just fill it with Elmer's Glue and stuff it back into the original position with a popsicle stick or Chopstick....hold it for few min. and works every time.
Did you send it back. Because I think they sent it to me. They are making me a new one now. I’m sending it back. They do make great knives but some things slip through and they always make it right.
That's rough you went through all of the wait and no communication only to get a knife that is underwhelming at best. This is indeed a horror story. I hope you get your full refund. I am getting some khukuri's from Great Gurkha Khukuri. Perhaps try them? I know they do custom work. Im sure Purna will make you a bowie. Lots of the knife community swears by the work of them. I'll let you know how their work is on my khukuris when I get them.
All this happened a month ago, they gave me a full refund, said 2 to 3 days processing time....well a week passes by and I get a email from them stating that their bank was closed down so no go on the refund. Then they wanted me to create a PayPal account to get refunded, which I did and a few days later it came in ....then PayPal took a cut lol....there's alot to this story that people don't know, really is.
Thanks Big AL for being honest and your thoughts. I think I'll do a Condor and skip the D guard Bowie I was about to order. There are to many issues with your knife , I would be disappointed also. I will be using a blade smith closer to home.
I have seen some real garbage come out of KHHI over the years, my Bhojapure khukuri has forging inclusions in the spine (it is still a great blade) and when we tried to get a correction it was nothing but BS. Originally we ordered from them because they were the original maker of the Scourge (before the designer went to Kailash because of MASSIVE QC issues at KHHI), my Scourge is about 200 grams overweight but it is still an awesome blade. I like Donnies channel but you can see a pattern where it seems that they send awesome examples to where they will get a positive review and in my experience, as well as my friends, fully 25% of the knives they ship are massively substandard.
They gave me a refund, but I can't even say that went smoothly. After saying they would refund the money they then said they couldn't because their bank was closed. So they wanted to go through PayPal and after more delays and PayPal taking a percentage I finally got some money back
The sad thing here is that they churn out rubbish and only up their game if its going to a high profile customer, ive bought two knives from KHH, 1 a khukri and the 2nd a custom Bowie (musso) this turned into an absolute dissaster on every level, this was about 15 yrs ago, then Donnie Bs collaboration came about and i thought maybe they had upped their game, i was going to buy Donnies musso version but started seeing reviews like this one, so needless to say i have been put off , i dont mind a 20 dollar knife but i dont want to pay 200 dollars for it, hope yours got sorted.
Good honest review Quality control is very important , the time it takes to receive a product is important . Hand made items well are not going to be perfect and precise. These things are good to no when making a purchase.
I understand there is variances...but alot of these things are way out of acceptable tolerances. I'm talking about the blade bend, which shouldn't be there handmade or not. The jacked up grind work, it doesn't take much to get a nice flat spine grind

I got a Condor plan A and it's about perfect. If you want a great khukuri get a Tora blades. The wait may take a few months and it may cost a bit more but worth it. They also stand behind their blades.

I've heard some not too good things about the khukuri house. I was wanting a kukri and researching these overseas makers these guys were usually always at the bottom of the list in terms of quality control. A lot of mixed reviews.

I'm sorry you got such a badly made blade. I've never like KHHI their QC just is not there. For future reference if you are gonna get a blade from Nepal go to Kailash blades you won't be disalpointed.

I respect the hell out of you Big Al for having the guts to speak your case, I grow and have ordered seeds that didnt pop and had to do the same, made a video and said my side, Im also a knife hobbyist and believe you, Ive come to realize that you can paint someone thousands of miles away as any sort of expert and the whole Nepal thing really sells, but the truth is you can get a much better knife made in a production facility , not some alley in an open firebox, expect some bs trolls who will try to run you off and discredit you.
I'm not your normal knife guy, I don't care about subscribers or RUclips popularity, and for integrity sake I have to be honest with what I do or there's no point in doing it. I sadly had a similar experience, no heat treat. I think they made the edge with a cinder block too, I could have tucked it into my boxers and had no fear whatsoever. Still on the hunt for a great civil war Bowie replica.

Certain things yes, not much I can do about the bend to the left unless I try to heat it straighten it then do a heat treat all over again and that stresses the blade. The spine is leveled out now and I put a secondary bevel on the edge to make it a good cutter and left enough meat on the bone so it can chop as well. They did eventually make things right but not after more delays, their bank was closed down and I had to create a PayPal account just to get my refund back which left me paying fees to paypal for the transaction. Not a very good experience for me
@@bigalbowie7206 I just ordered a custom blade from them; Never had any problems with them in the past, but sometime events, like Covid, affect a company with having to settle with employees that are not as skilled as the ones before. I guess we will have to wait and see....
I don't like how the whole situation went down, first the delay when the knife should have been completed. Bent blade, bad grind work, and only 5mm think when it's advertised as larger. When I left my review they said they had pictures everything was perfect, DHL must have mishandled it....I directed them to watch this same video. Where they still said the thickness was within there tolerances. Actually had to put it on a micrometer and send pictures ...the blade bend was never addressed. And the whole hassle of getting the refund. I seen alot of there past reviews on Google and I thought it strange that everyone that had a complaint khhi accused them of trying to "defame" them .....I hope your experience goes better, but as for me I probably will not be doing anymore business with them
@@bigalbowie7206 yeah, the spine problem as well as the thickness is something that you really can't fix. It's concerning to say the least. I think a great video is to test the living hell out of it and record the findings. It would be interesting to see how it would perform. With 5160 steel, it should hold up....but with the blade spine compromised you would definitely have to be careful.

I bought a Condor Undertaker Bowie that was not right, grinds, waves etc... I wrote them a polite but detailed email so they knew that I knew what I was talking about. They let me keep the bad one and sent me a new one in perfect condition , no shipping. I suggest sending an email or hopefully you sent one already. They will make it right I'm pretty sure. That's exactly what I did at first, but they said I was a lair, they had photos proving the knife was in perfect condition, even blamed DHL for mishandling the package. They was assholes in short and wasn't willing to help until they found out there was a negative review about it. Even then my refund was botched but I recovered part of the money anyway
Kailash blades are definitely much better quality. And the worst part is what you can't see. The heat treat... i reckon the heat treat will be off

Ray, these aren't mass produced machine cut. Hand hammering moves every piece of steel a bit different. Any blacksmith can attest to that. Sizes can be slightly bigger or smaller. The one Big Al got was not one of those. His was clearly rushed while swamped from COVID and needs to be replaced. His wasn't a matter of being off a bit. His was bad. The sizes usually are within a half inch in all directions plus or minus. But they are built for strength and use.
Dbad needs to get on to them as his name and reputation is also on them. It's a shame as that looks like one bad ass knife. But what you seem to have been sent is an expensive paper weight
New subscription here, blade brother. I had a custom fighter made by KHHI (the 'Blessed Warrior') and it was great. No company is perfect, though.
I like case xx and believe me I've had some bad ones from them, the only difference is they didn't call me a liar and make excuses. They replaced it no questions asked. I can't say the same for khhi, they first called me a liar and tried to blame DHL carriers, and only offered to make it right after they found out there was a video, in which they made excuses and tried to say it's supposed to be that way even with dbad saying no it's not. And I can't even say the refund went smoothly because that was jumble fucked also. EVERY part of this transaction was screwed and went wrong. I could care less about the knife at this point it's how they acted is what bothered me the most

Hey Big AL, yeah as far as the sheath problem, it happens quite a bit. I have Kukris from several makers...that corner lip problem will eventually happen even with a proper draw by pulling and preasuring the spine against the upper wall. So, the best fix is actually Elmer's Glue. I slather the inside of the leather and fold it inside to adhere to the wood core (folded into it's original position). Let it set for 12 to 24 hours and it's good as new!!! Use black permanant marker if need be for discoloration and it will like the day it arrived! Hope this helps!
You can't really put pressure against the upper part because of the folded up leather stuffed in at that spot
@@bigalbowie7206 the folded up leather is the common place that gets pulled out when pulling the Khukuri out. So, I just fill it with Elmer's Glue and stuff it back into the original position with a popsicle stick or Chopstick....hold it for few min. and works every time.
Did you send it back. Because I think they sent it to me. They are making me a new one now. I’m sending it back. They do make great knives but some things slip through and they always make it right.
I certainly hope that they get you a correct one. Shame you had to do this. I am wanting one and hope it isn't like that.
That's rough you went through all of the wait and no communication only to get a knife that is underwhelming at best. This is indeed a horror story. I hope you get your full refund. I am getting some khukuri's from Great Gurkha Khukuri. Perhaps try them? I know they do custom work. Im sure Purna will make you a bowie. Lots of the knife community swears by the work of them. I'll let you know how their work is on my khukuris when I get them.

All this happened a month ago, they gave me a full refund, said 2 to 3 days processing time....well a week passes by and I get a email from them stating that their bank was closed down so no go on the refund. Then they wanted me to create a PayPal account to get refunded, which I did and a few days later it came in ....then PayPal took a cut lol....there's alot to this story that people don't know, really is.

Thanks Big AL for being honest and your thoughts. I think I'll do a Condor and skip the D guard Bowie I was about to order. There are to many issues with your knife , I would be disappointed also. I will be using a blade smith closer to home.

I have seen some real garbage come out of KHHI over the years, my Bhojapure khukuri has forging inclusions in the spine (it is still a great blade) and when we tried to get a correction it was nothing but BS. Originally we ordered from them because they were the original maker of the Scourge (before the designer went to Kailash because of MASSIVE QC issues at KHHI), my Scourge is about 200 grams overweight but it is still an awesome blade.
I like Donnies channel but you can see a pattern where it seems that they send awesome examples to where they will get a positive review and in my experience, as well as my friends, fully 25% of the knives they ship are massively substandard.

They gave me a refund, but I can't even say that went smoothly. After saying they would refund the money they then said they couldn't because their bank was closed. So they wanted to go through PayPal and after more delays and PayPal taking a percentage I finally got some money back

The sad thing here is that they churn out rubbish and only up their game if its going to a high profile customer, ive bought two knives from KHH, 1 a khukri and the 2nd a custom Bowie (musso) this turned into an absolute dissaster on every level, this was about 15 yrs ago, then Donnie Bs collaboration came about and i thought maybe they had upped their game, i was going to buy Donnies musso version but started seeing reviews like this one, so needless to say i have been put off , i dont mind a 20 dollar knife but i dont want to pay 200 dollars for it, hope yours got sorted.
Good honest review Quality control is very important , the time it takes to receive a product is important .
Hand made items well are not going to be perfect and precise.
These things are good to no when making a purchase.
I understand there is variances...but alot of these things are way out of acceptable tolerances. I'm talking about the blade bend, which shouldn't be there handmade or not. The jacked up grind work, it doesn't take much to get a nice flat spine grind

I got a Condor plan A and it's about perfect. If you want a great khukuri get a Tora blades. The wait may take a few months and it may cost a bit more but worth it. They also stand behind their blades.

I've heard some not too good things about the khukuri house. I was wanting a kukri and researching these overseas makers these guys were usually always at the bottom of the list in terms of quality control. A lot of mixed reviews.
Depends on who you talk to, I might to do another video and explain the whole experience I had with them. Because alot of people don't know the full story and what happened after this video came out. Which wasn't very good either lol
