People thought that Captain America should die because he deserves a “soldier’s send off.” Those people are wrong. THIS is how a soldier should end his story. He comes home after the war, he passes his legacy on, and settles down to live his life in peace with a family. No PTSD, no night terrors, but peace and content
I love how simplistic the ending is. In a movie with a shit tons of superheroes, aliens, infinity stones etc. Endgame ends with a couple dancing in a suburban home in the 1940s.
LOTR and Harry Potter did it too. We fight monsters, wizards and aliens so that we can end stories with moments like these: - Samwise (the chief hero according to JRRT) gets married and has a family, and let’s Frodo (the person he was most attached to) go find peace on his own terms - Harry (the Boy Who Lived and the Chosen One) married his dream girl and sends his children to Hogwarts. - Captain America (leader of the Avengers and commander of Earth’s army) passes his mantle on and marries the love of his life and has kids

This part of the movie gets me every single time. Captain America put his life on the line selfless saving millions, facing certain death willing to fight Thanos and his whole army with half a shield. No character in a movie deserved this ending more.
This! People were trying to say that he was selfish, but look at everything he's done to get the modern world to that point. He gave up so much so he deserved a happy ending. Plus, Tony was the one who really wanted him to find happiness.
Ari Entyse Exactly. He was honoring Tony’s wishes all the way. To get the simple life as well as to not change anything in the main timeline and there’s so many possibilities how but that is why I believe he was able to be under the radar as Peggy’s husband in the main timeline. I think he tried to change as much as he could, soften the blows but he has to also live with the fact that it’s not his place to fix anything any more. And that maybe, if he used the time stone as the means of travel to Peggy (by asking the Ancient One when he returned it), it was a condition or parameter that no matter what he did, he will not be able to change major reality and timeline defining events. Anyway, this ending is what he deserved.
I wonder if Steve cooked food for the rest of his life that wasnt invented yet cause he said in winter soldier they used to boil everything. Peggy bout to get an upgrade.
My father was the son of a WWII veteran and always said this was pop and my grandmothers song when he came home. Witnessing him at 70 years old watch this ending and crying with a smile on his face I’ll never forget. Everyone else saw cap and Peggy, he saw mom and dad on that big screen
I love the symbolism in which the song playing (It's Been a Long, Long Time) was released at the end of WWII to commemorate the soldiers returning to their spouses after a long, long war, and here Steve is returning to his loved one after fighting for so long in the "Infinity War."
It must’ve been hard for Steve to explain how he survived. “Well it turns out I didn’t die. I was just frozen in ice, and didn’t wake up until 2012. I stayed there for 11 years, and fought aliens, gods, friends, and watched half the universe disappear. Then my friend invented time travel, we saved the universe, and I decided to go back in time and be with you.”
Started the MCU with First Avenger then watched every MCU film in theaters until Endgame. Having this scene be the literal last before the end completely broke me. Felt like everything came full circle. One of the best endings to a film.

Peggy's door being left opened is a pretty nice detail. She was so overcome with shock and joy at Steve's return that something as simple as closing the door slipped her mind.
Late reply sorry: it was a common thing in the fourties for people to leave their front door unlocked or even open when the weather was nice. It was safe enough to do it then.
I can only imagine how romantic it must’ve been for a soldier to be able to return home to his sweetheart after fighting to make his country and the world a better place. They really were the greatest generation. We have a lot to be grateful for because of them.
@@princek4797 It was in the ending of age of ultron i think, where tony was telling cap about building pepper a farm, in which cap said "A simple life," and then tony responds, "You'll get there one day."
But he got it. By God he fought everyone and everything, and they had to break and reassemble the damned universe, but he got home and got his dance. If that isn't movie magic, I don't know what is.
No, it could have been better. Show him showing up at her door. Knocking, and after a second turning away to look out at the street as a car or a noise is heard. Then have her at the door, slightly annoyed only to have the realization show on her face about who is on her door step as he turns back around. "Is it to late to cash in that rain check on that date?" As her shock turns into a smile. Fade to black and then do the dance scene in the living room only zooming in on her left hand to show she is now married while flashing a "... six months later" subtitle in the left bottom corner. When Falcon asks if Steve wants to talk about "Her" and he responds that "I don't think I will". That tells me that somebody considered back then doing a mini-series with Agent Carter and Captain A. It just didn't go anywhere. But at the same time they didn't want to box themselves in trying to make anything he said in that scene fit the puzzle.
As soon as I heard those horns and saw the old cars, I lost my shit. Not ashamed to admit it. I always loved these two and never ever thought they’d end up together.

My brothers had no idea why I had started crying so suddenly but they soon realized.
Me too. Even when they were time hopping, I never thought there would be an opportunity for Cap to go back and choose. But with their side trip to New Jersey, and Hank Pym back, they likely have all the Pym Particles they needed. With Cap choosing to go back, I half expected him to show back up - the good soldier finishing the mission. But I’m glad he didn’t and chose to go back to Peggy and a life he was never afforded when he went into the ice. He chose one long dance - with the love of his life and vice versa. Good on Steve and Peggy.
I like to think Agent carter's ending is tied to the endgame ending. Peggy says goodbye to Steve with a red dress, she comes home all melancolic and suddenly a guy with flowers knocks the door and we see this dance afterwards

I would argue to those who think it’s a bad ending. In a franchise perspective it’s a fucking brave ending. Marvel is a megalomaniac franchise where the villain throws a moon at the heroes and doing over the top things. They could have made a Big Money Shot such as in the first Avengers movie where the OG member have posed for a photo which no one made. Yet they just ended the Infinity Saga wich consist of 21 movies made in 11 years with a simple dance with only one charachter’s ending. They could have made another moneyshot with the FULL TEAM with CGI Captain Marvel and Thor flying on the skies , yet they made a more emotinal ending. Other perspective is personel, because Captain America is my All time favorite superhero in the MCU and watching half of his life fights and losts, watching him finally have his dance with Peggy is so sweet that I always cry, knowing from these charachters must had a beatiful lifes. Plus Steve and Peggy relationship in the first movie, where Steve is too shy to say he likes her and Peggy who is a tough officer, yet we clearly see she likes Steve as well and became angry at him, because she saw him kissing with someone else, is so adorable to me. Watching them in the end is evreything I could ask for. No moment will top this ending for me and definietly the best ending that Cap got and deserved.

The emotions are so present in this scene. Peggy, thinking that the love of her life died and suddenly back just made her the happiest woman on earth and you can tell by her face, she’s even in disbelief. Steve has gone through hell fighting in ww2, against alien invaders, corrupt governments, and other threats. He is a man lost in time who’s only things that kept him grounded were Peggy and fighting in wars. Erick G that is completely different. That’s a high school crush that actually turned out to be a relationship. Steve and Peggy are really something different. Steve has been at war from pretty much the moment he stepped out that machine and continuing when out of the ice. And after all that he found a way to get back to her
I think when Steve went back in time to return the stones, he was able to meet Peggy at the place where he said he'd take her on that date. And the rest is history.
April 26, 2019. My buddies and I were in our senior year of high school. We decided to go see the movie at our local theater. This scene really showed a huge difference in Steve. Coming back from the ice, he was depressed, lost, bored and very unhappy. He comes back very old but with a genuine smile, because he got what he truly wanted.

Yes exactly. I've actually rewatched Captain America movies recently and the first one is my favorite, good plot, great characters and relationships between them. Other movies are good too but this one has some charm to it.
Beyond everything that's so good about this scene, what makes me the happiest is the producer's commitment to make the scene work. There was no other ending to cap.
God this scene gets me every damn time. Cap deserved this. He’s done enough, he did enough. Not just for his country but for the world, the universe. This scene made me cry so hard. I served in the marine corps and saw a lot of guys die. It’s crazy most people don’t know that most guys that fought in ww2 were just young. They never made it back to dance with their family, and neither did the guys that died and fought in the Middle East. Scene is touching. Thank you marvel. Just to let you all know this is my grand sons account hence the name. 🤦🏾
My dad was a Vietnam vet, gpa was a WWII vet and great uncle was a Korea vet. Im in my 30’s and 40 is fast approaching. Its crazy to think of myself as 19 fighting in the front lines. Youre just a “baby” at 19. Sad that so many never got the best of their lives and died screaming in agony, scared, wishing you were back home.
Sad thing about war is that they send young people to die for nothing, just a bunch of promises and empty ideals, both sides, while the real criminals are just peacefully watching them die
I think this is one of my favorite movie endings of all time. It's perfect. Steve is back in his own time period, he finally gets the woman he loves, and he grows old like a normal human being. It's not cheesy.
it's stupid there are people who dislike his ending, he wanted to retire and knowing he could do so with the love of her life makes it better, he gets to live the life he wanted after going through war, just a soldier coming home
The fact the all the movies leading up to this are about space and time and dimensions, yet this, a simple dancing scene can move a audience with just the tune
"It's been a long, long time" peaked at #1 on the charts the month after WW2 ended, and stayed there for 16 weeks. This song captured the swelling of excitement America had for their boys coming home. This song was also playing in Caps house when we came home in the winter soldier. There is truly no other song that is as fitting for the send off of Captain America.
You can just *feel* all the emotions that Steve is feeling in that final shot. He’s been through so much, and seen so many things that nobody would even imagine unless they saw it for themselves. He saw magic and technology far beyond his lifetime, he struggled against rogue artificial intelligence, he came to terms with the fate of his best friend, and even had to suffer through the loss of his true love _and_ the loss of the entire half of the universe at the hands of a mad titan, living with the guilt for years. And finally, after everything, he finally gets to go back. To live the life he understood, before he was thrust into the mad world of gods and robots and titans. To return home. And his face in those last few seconds just perfectly captures the pure peace that he feels in returning.
And more than anything, he got to return to what he thought was lost forever. All he ever really wanted. The thing he was waiting for. The Right Partner.

Imagine Hayley Atwell, she played Peggy in 2011, she did her show for two seasons, she probably thought she was done and they brought her back again in Winter Soldier then they brought her for Ant-Man and she probably thought at that point she was really done when Peggy died in Civil War until they bring her back to have a role in the biggest movie of all time and then ask her to voice act Peggy for the What If show. Steve and Peggy's impact on each other is what lead to them both going off and changing the world completely. @@iriemonmon Not selfish at all! Cap EARNED a normal life.

Steve had to endure almost or about 80 years (1940? - 2023) just to have this one dance with Peggy.

It must’ve been hard for Steve to explain how he survived.

Fade to black and then do the dance scene in the living room only zooming in on her left hand to show she is now married while flashing a "... six months later" subtitle in the left bottom corner.

One day that will be me and Millie Bobby Brown after COVID-19 is over in May or June me and Millie will finally have our dance and play this song (It's Been A Long Long Time) and these 2 other songs (We'll meet again and The White Cliffs Of Dover)
Erick G that is completely different. That’s a high school crush that actually turned out to be a relationship. Steve and Peggy are really something different. Steve has been at war from pretty much the moment he stepped out that machine and continuing when out of the ice. And after all that he found a way to get back to her
I would be surprised that Peggy still says “you’re late” even if Steve used a time machine.
Damn it man. I'm getting emotional during the song and then snorted when I read your comment.
I wouldn't
I think when Steve went back in time to return the stones, he was able to meet Peggy at the place where he said he'd take her on that date. And the rest is history.
luggy yeah so she basically doesn’t know that he fought gods and etc. she just knows he survived the plane crash

April 26, 2019. My buddies and I were in our senior year of high school. We decided to go see the movie at our local theater. We’d been excited to see it and what we got was the best conclusion to the Avengers’ stories. I look to my best friend and he has tears streaming down his eyes. It’s been four years since that day. Thanks, guys.
This scene really showed a huge difference in Steve. Coming back from the ice, he was depressed, lost, bored and very unhappy. He comes back very old but with a genuine smile, because he got what he truly wanted.
The ending we all wanted for him but never expected it..
No one deserves a beautiful happy ending more than Steve.
What about kratos from god of war?
@@truthfullyidk2925 kratos was never as unrelentingly good as steve was. Steve always deserved happiness
@@kiefferindisguise5196 yeah but he's suffered WAY more than steve has and deserved atleast an ounce of peace
@@truthfullyidk2925 he suffered as much as Hercules
What about Spiderman? (Tobey)
I just noticed that this song is the one played when Steve and Fury "talks" in private before Nick's "dies"
I just rewatched The Winter Soldier and the song from this scene is the same song playing when Fury visits Steve in his apartment. Completely missed that one. Amazing
I'm deadass watching it now and coulda sworn I heard the song before, came back to this and here's your comment 😂
its steve's fav song
I did the same thing last week! I had to go back and rewatch it a couple of times because I was crying in happiness. Love Marvel
SaltySeaCaptain 225 did the exact same thing
SaltySeaCaptain 225 I don’t believe it, but you’re right! Definitely an MCU deep dive reference. It works in reference to Fury’s reveal in that scene and Cap’s journey back to Peggy in the Endgame scene. With the Russos directing the last two Captain America films and IW/EG, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were telegraphing things ahead of time. Those boys are smart!
"The only thing bumming me out is the fact I have to live in a world without Captain America"

@@antstudios167it’s obviously not on endgame’s level but it did conclude MCU Spider-Man’s story really well and gave closure to the other two Peter Parker’s imo. GOTG3 was definitely on par with endgame tho.

@Steve Rogers oh thanks steve XD
It’s called an unhealthy obsession. Not love. He barely knew her and shared one kiss. She was just the first woman to ever talk to him pre-serum.
Captain America: The First Avenger is perhaps the most under appreciated movie in the MCU but it gave us this incredibly beautiful and touching relationship and I cried so hard at this scene. Finally seeing them have that dance he promised her absolutely destroyed me.
Gay or whaaaat
Mmm A I am hugely gay yes, massively so
I know exactly what you mean, I didn’t cry but the first time you watch it you feel the whole wait of how meaningful this ending is and i still remember the giant grin on my face watching this scene, just beautiful
Yes exactly. I've actually rewatched Captain America movies recently and the first one is my favorite, good plot, great characters and relationships between them. Other movies are good too but this one has some charm to it.
It’s not under appreciated its just that it came out 9 years ago but I see what you mean
And the song is "It's been a long, long time" Which is a song for a world war 2 soldier coming home to his love/family.
Beyond everything that's so good about this scene, what makes me the happiest is the producer's commitment to make the scene work. There was no other ending to cap.
God this scene gets me every damn time. Cap deserved this. He’s done enough, he did enough. Not just for his country but for the world, the universe. He did his service, and deserved a soldier’s welcome home. His war is over.
Thanks for all the likes and the comments that agree with what I said. Did not expect this to be pinned let alone liked so much ❤️
Same time yes but no cause in the series agent Carter she kisses another man.
Gplay s well I mean, she thought he was dead. Plus who knows if this scene retconned that.
Hmmm true? I hope there is a solution.
Yes! beautiful explanation🥺
@@Toxic_Goat15 yes but also no...this is probably a different reality, one which captain America didn't fall into a " deep sleep" and actually returned home to see his wife. Carter from the series is from the timeline where captain America doesn't return home and that timeline is the one in which he meets the avengers.

Very insightful jackoff
I think this is one of my favorite movie endings of all time. It's perfect. Steve is back in his own time period, he finally gets the woman he loves, and he grows old like a normal human being. It's not cheesy.
it's stupid there are people who dislike his ending, he wanted to retire and knowing he could do so with the love of her life makes it better, he gets to live the life he wanted after going through war, just a soldier coming home
Well there's always two steve's were there in different timelines.
@@thephoenix7090 this ending are the best for me after so much experience at future cap really deserve a happiness
It's what every hero deserves. Super powers or not. I'm so relieved that Hollywood was big enough to give it to him.
5 years later this is still my favorite conclusion to anything ever
^This. His tour of duty is over and he finally came home.
@@uzazil A true soldier coming home indeed
And more than anything, he got to return to what he thought was lost forever. All he ever really wanted. The thing he was waiting for. The Right Partner.
This comment does a great job at putting it into perspective
@@eterty8335 this comment is proof of why he deserved the ending, he knows how to move on but getting thrusted to a world that's different leading you to lose the love of your life will make someone live with sadness. people don't realize he was snatched from his life and finally got it back after persistently fighting, he's a soldier coming back home after 12 years of fighting. also, peggy loved him back the same way he loved her, so that further solidified his comfort in the scene and his happiness of being there
Honestly, if the MCU just ended right there and then, I would be satisfied.
Once you become a Marvel actor, they will keep giving you work until the end of time.
Except for Scarlett Johansson
@@emmanuelbongar7370 she's been here since the start
@@puppetstudio4989 But the comment said until the end of time and we all know what’s happening with Scarlett
not for Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr 😭😭😭
@@auggie48 well Chris and Time Robert are still available to return but scarlet literally can’t because of that whole “her against Disney and marvel thing”
This is even more symbolic when you remember it was through Peggy's support and confidence that allowed Steve truly become Captain America and, in essence, create the Avengers. Steve and Peggy's impact on each other is what lead to them both going off and changing the world completely. So it makes sense that the final avengers movie would end focusing on the relationship that started it all
Peggy's face at 0:24 absolutely melts my face. She's all like,"I finally got my steve back." Like awww.❤❤❤❤❤
Nice catch
yea she is crying from joy, and this is after the fact that she accepted his death, had a few romances, so this goes to show regardless of her life in the main timeline with her unnamed husband, steve will always be #1 for her and he's the love of her life, which she herself says
And then TVA interrupt their dance and arrest Steve Rogers
