I remember being so tense when Goldar trapped Jason in the dark dimension, he couldn't morph, was hiding in the mist on the ground

I know! He was the one guy who always gave the rangers the biggest challenge, but once he got his wings back, he just started becoming less and less relevant.
I agree, but when you have "rival" keep losing over and over again, it reduces him to a comic relief villain

Goldar was a beast early on in the series I was pissed when they turned him into a comic relief character.

The on-going rivalry between Goldar and Tommy was pretty awesome.
I always felt that bulk and skull should actually be those characters but not know about it you know like dr. Jekyll mr. Hyde situation because otherwise them being the high school bullies doesn't make any goddamn sense
I like to believe that Goldar just retired after centuries of fighting and is now at home raising the son he had with Scorpina.
It's a better fate for him than being vaporized into dust.

@@CelticVictory I kinda always figured they had something going on. Seemed pretty obvious to me. Then finding out about Zyurangers and that they were actually married made a hell of a lot of sense, given how they were always together and seemed quiet protective of one another.
In Zyuranger, the source material for the designs and stock footage used in MMPR, Grifforzer (Goldar) and Lami (Scorpina) were married. I believe they even had a kid together.

There’s actually a theory that their kid was the one to attack the three Dino Sentai and not the original Griffozer.
Goldar was easily one of my favorite characters.
The romance angle between Goldar and Scorpina would have mirrored their Zyuranger counterparts: Griffozer & Lami. In Zyurangers, they are married & in the season finale, they have a baby.
In MMPR its stated they are all ready married

@Markmagician2 can you name the episode they say that in? Because ive never even heard of them being married outside of super sentai. Heck even when lord zedd gave goldar his wings back scorpina stopped being on the show.

Goldar was a great villain who could easily been the number 1 in command. He's also got to the villain that would grow the most but never get destroyed! Would also love to see a story on Bulk & Skull 👍
I remember when Goldar attacked the rangers while they were in the midst of transforming. It's still one of my favorite scenes from Power Rangers.
Headcanon I really wish to be true:
In some alternate timeline Goldar is choosen by the coin and becomes the Green Ranger instead of Tommy, defeating the rangers under his oath to Rita but then turning on Zed using the green ranger's power to avenge his brother

I'd try to avoid that by making Goldar more of a goofy antivillain, kinda like a Bowser to Drakkon's Dimentio
Say, after he marries Scorpina and take over from Zed & Rita I'd have him make a truce with Zordon on the condition he is recognized as the new ruler of their empire and that wizard will stop sending rangers after him, with the two later teaming up against the Machine Empire once Goldar willingly gives back the coins to the rangers
That would have been cool, a monstrous version of the green ranger
I need to read the Boom comics. Now it makes sense why Goldar was so quick to align himself with Zedd when he showed up.

My God he was a nuisance but a formidable foe.
I guess that explains why he was quick to side with Ivan Ooze after trapping Rita and Zedd in a snow globe in the movie. Can’t say I blame him either.

Both Zedd and Rita treated Goldar horribly while usually failing to provide him with meaningful support to accomplish the tasks they assigned him. I don't blame him for changing sides either.
He was Tommy’s and Jason’s rival during the three original seasons of mighty morphin

Here are some interesting facts;
When the live action Ambassador Magma came to America and was shown on TBS as 'Space Giants', Ambassador Magma was called Goldar!
In the original Japanese Super Sentai Zyuranger, from which Power Rangers was adapted, Goldar was named Griffozer, Scorpina was Lamia, and the two were married, and had a child at the end of the last episode of Zyuranger!

Fun fact even though he was a bumbling character the Rangers never actually defeated him outside of their morphed forms meaning he was still formidable enough to force them into them giving him a sense of power that rarely any post-mighty Morphin comedic villain has

Scorpina would be a hard one I'd think given how many zigs and zags her story and depiction take and seemingly contradicts one another. Execution by Zedd for failure in unused episode transcripts that weren't filmed, switching places with Black Dragon prior Shattered Grid/Drakkon New Dawn and being stuck in coinless world, removed from normal time via time travel in HyperForce, and being stuck with Lokar in Soul of the Dragon. Much like the Joker in Batman Scorpina likes to choose the multiple choice option.

I haven't really been a fan of Power Rangers since the early 90's but....yeah, this channel totally deserves a sub.

It was a missed opportunity to use more stock footage from Super Sentai. In Super Sentai Goldar and Scorpina are actually married, with Goldar unable to speak until Rita uses her magic to give him a voice. Not only are Goldar and Scorpina married by the end of the Zyuranger series they even had a baby together.
I think Goldar must have suffered from the same dumbing down that was forced on Lord Zedd, by the networks, because early on, it looks like Goldar is on the cusp of becoming even more of a formidable threat, than he was in the first season. That's why him getting his wings back was such a big deal.
Zedd rewarded Goldar for his loyalty by "returning his wings."
...do we ever find out how he lost them in the first place?

From what I understand Rita took them for his constant failure. But I zordon said Zedd was Rita’s master. So I think Zedd had a decent understanding of dark magic he just chose other means vs Rita’s magic. I feel Zedd used some magic to either create new wings or cancel out Rita’s magic giving Goldar his wings back.
My headcanon is that during a particularly gruesome sword duel, Jason actually cut his wings off - hence Goldar having an intense _hatred_ for him.
@@GanonGhidorah I just rewatched the part of the pilot where he shows up to attack. He has his wings but when rita makes him grow he loses them and doesn’t have them again until zedd shows up
Man Goldar was so cool, I would love a movie where he and his minions are actually treated as threats instead of just being jokes

Great video on Goldar. This henchman was one of my favorite henchmen in Rita and Lord Zedd group of minions. Loved the fact that you used his origin from the Boom comic series and yes I would agree with you that Silverback would have made a pretty good character in the show.
As for Scorpina, I would really like to see a video on her.

REally Skorpina is a bit of an underrated and forgotten villian from the original series and would be great to get a video of her.
I never forgot Scorpina. She was my favorite of the original villains.
Goldar & monkian from thundercats would have been a great duo - both were great fighters, but could deliver hilarious comedic moments also

I'd like to see more behind the scenes videos, about the actors and creatives, or the original Sentai series and how it was used to make Power Rangers.
Kyoryu sentai zyuranger would be the one to watch, it was the one that got adapted into Mighty Morphin.
Gosei Sentai Dairanger was adapted into season 2 of power rangers and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger was adapted into season 3

I loved Goldar as a kid
His awesomeness factor was up there along side Tommy and Jason
Like how Rita and Zedd were magically corrupted humans (or at least, human-like); based on his armor and the armor that was shown in the BOOM comics Zordon and the other ancient rangers wore; I think Goldarr and possibly the others of his race had also been corrupted. If that is the case, then the positive energy wave released from the destruction of Zordon's tube would have purified him as well.
When I was a kid, Goldar was my favourite villain ever. He was strong, serious, and angry, the kind of guy who'd normally be a lone wolf anit-hero, and his design was flashy, yet cool and imposing. Then we moved and my parents refused to get cable again for like 6 years. The one time I saw the show during that it was when he was with Bulk and Skull, and I was appalled by what they did to him. One of the best side villains of all time, reduced to mere comic relief. And that show already had too many comic relief characters from the start.
I love him as a badass AND as a comic relief villain. He’s one of my favorite Power Ranger/Super Sentai villains of all time. ^.^

I felt like the first season of MMPR was dark outta any season of power rangers. I wondered how Goldar lost his wings after the pilot episode, was it because of his lost to the megazord? For the new Power Rangers movie, it would be awesome to bring in Goldar's brother. Looked badass as Goldar was in the first season and id like to see a video on Scorpina! I liked her as a villain. In a small way, i thought Master Vile was pretty clever in the short time he was in Season 3. The rangers even tried to destroy him with the Ninja Megazord.
No he actually lost them when he grew. I just watched that scene.
Season 1 Goldar was dangerously FORMIDABLE; and practically Rita's General! (Then, you factored in any time he tag teamed with Scorpina; or the time that he teamed up with King Sphinx. And lets not forget his one-on-one dual with Jason in the Dark Dimension...).
Season 2 Goldar was almost as sycophantic to Zed as Finster was to Rita (understandable; since Zed had the ingenuity and drive to created HIS OWN monsters, there was little for Finster to do).
Along came Rita's return to the palace to serve alongside Zed and Goldar was severely reduced AGAIN to nearly Squatt or Baboo! (Depending on which one Rito was supposed to be).
Yeah; by now, the point is tired of being argued; but it was CRIMINAL what was done to Goldar...
Your assessment is how I feel. It's also one of the reasons I gave up on Power Rangers for awhile. I thought of Rito as Baboo because they have a similar body type. Later in the series, I thought Goldar acted much like Squat to the point of where I wondered why they didn't just use Squat and Baboo. Using Goldar and Rito for comic relief was bad but doing to a character like Goldar just made it worse.

Great video! Goldar was a badass Villian in MMPR specially in S1/S2 but obviously was a bit sad he became more a comedy character with Rito in S3 as the pair would have been an awesome as well as menacing when Master Vile turned up. Also would of love to have seen an comic book origins with his brother Silverback in live action (aka TV series) An Scorpina Villian lore video would be great to see too. 😎👍🏻⚡⚡
If I recall correctly, Scorpina and Goldar's characters in the Japanese Sentai were married. That would explain the plans to have the pair date as that could use some more sentai photage
I love both goofy voice and his original voice in the first season of Mighty Morphin. And his original voice in Super Sentai (the Japanese show that Power Rangers is based on)
You can actually see Goldar right behind Zedd just seconds before the Z Wave hits. So yeah, he was dusted too.

I remember an episode where Goldar nearly destroyed the rangers, he had wrecked the megazord, beaten them to a pulp, and the only way they won was by using some weird flying car thing that the red ranger flew into his mouth, which blew up inside of him
Which Billy created. There are several episodes where the blue ranger dropped some science on the problem that ended up saving the day. It was the whole premise of MMPR: Rita and Zedd were magic and the old ways, zordon and the rangers were pro science and education, and science trumped magic every time
Funnily enough, That concept of Goldar and Scorpina dating was ACTUALLY turned into an comic! There Scorpina and Goldar are sent to earth on a theme park IIRC, and the two at first wanted to have nothing to do with it, but they got really into it and in fact, helped defeating an attack from zedd while still being in disguise!
I can't remember everything, since it is quite a while since I read it and I can't remember in which issue it was, but it definately happened!

Goldar was my favorite character on the show. He was awesome. I dont like how he was narratively weakened.
Lord Godar has a good ring to it and I would love to see a movie with him as a lord.

Goldar didn't die after the Z wave hit. After the wave hit, Goldar remembered his true objective & quietly(along with Rito) snuck off of Tryphoria to find the Sailor Scout crystals & Mew Mew Power stones respectively, & to keep them away from those who would destroy & use its powers for evil means. Goldar hated a space pirate by the name of Beryl, which would explain why he was corrupted with evil(on purpose, B.T.W.), in an effort to prevent Beryl from finding out, from him, where he hid Sailor Scout crystals. Overtime, he became the villian, the Power Rangers fought.
That goes along with my head cannon of him being a corrupted ranger

Goldar is a classic and one of the greatest characters in PR history. Would be a travesty if he did die in the z-wave while Rita and Zedd are let off.
I don't believe Goldar Maximus is actually the same as Goldar. I don't think Jason thought it was the same referring to Goldar as "the last one he faced".
I like to think he probably reunited with Scorpina and Rito and living on Onyx somewhere.
He is technically the same but from a dimension where he beat the rangers.

I always thought Zed was foolish in how he used Goldar. Goldar had skill and thousands of years of experience, which the monster Zed created simply didn't. I used to imagine what it would be like if Zed gave Goldar a powerfully enchanted suit of armor made from the same super metal used to make the Lizzinator, and a sword to match. I don't think the power rangers could have beaten Goldar in that case.
Zedd and Rita both usually didn't give Goldar the resources he needed to accomplish the tasks they assigned him and then blamed him when their plans failed.

I was disappointed that Goldar got reduced to dust along with most of the Mighty Morphin faces, when Rita and Zedd got spared. I guess I just saw Goldar as being more of a character; his propensity for doing evil was of course great, but considering the tone of Power Rangers in Space, and the kind of being he becomes when he loses his memory, I can't help but feel like Goldar being bad was just a product of his environment.
I don't know; I guess it feels a bit harsh to consider that a character who had been around since the beginning, and always had to defer to orders from their _clearly more evil_ overlords, got dusted while his bosses got redeemed. It just didn't seem fair.

In the Super Sentai show that the first season of Power Rangers was based off of, Goldar and Scorpina have a kid in the last episode. So the footage of them together was available.
The episode where he was fighting a morpherless Jason in that smoke filled room was legitimately scary for me as a kid.
