I am so delighted to find your awesome videos and appreciate them so much, just started playing with pencils (age 62) and am so excited to hear these techniques, I wish you were my Nextdoor neighbor! I’m really not an artist at all, but these are fun and forgiving and the techniques help so much
I'm not a beginner. Far from it. I have been drawing since I was three, a 'gifted and talented' artist at school, and I've studied art formally for nine years overall. I mostly paint in oils. Yours is the BEST drawing instruction channel I have found. Your tips are things we forget along the way. Art school doesn't value traditional, basic skills anymore, so I'd forgotten so much, and my drawing is not what it should be after so much 'training'. I turned to the internet to refresh them, and boom, in easy-to-follow steps, you have refreshed my memory and given new tips that somehow didn't reach me. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much. Yes there are many gaps in 'formal' art education, in the UK they often don't teach much drawing, and very little watercolour or oils. Quick, adjustable mediums like acrylics are favoured instead.
Thank you for such an easy to understand instructional video! Finding the basic shape first seems intuitively basic to drawing objects. Plus, it appears to make the entire process a whole lot simpler. Thank you for such easy to understand instruction!!
This is such a useful tutorial, Michele - absolutely chock full of fabulous tips and reminders. No matter how often I hear these tips, they always resonate with me as it's so easy to forget them in the excitement of trying to draw something new! Thank you for all your wonderful content! :))
Yes please do more detailed videos of ellipses. I have not heard of this term envelope method but I too have been using this box method for drawing. Thanks for sharing this technique!
Michele, you have given so much hope for my ability to construct my paintings with your box technique. I learnt so much an will refer to this video a lot. Yes I would love to see your elipses an your floral in 2024. Thank you. I love your channel 🎈🎈🎈😊
This is such a useful video Michelle, I always struggle with my drawing and getting all the proportions right, and I think this method will be a real game changer for me … THANK YOU SO MUCH! 😊
Really enjoyed this video Michele. Have never heard the term envelope drawing before, but putting things in boxes is something I have heard you talk about. It's really useful to see how it works for so many different subjects. Thank you. Would definitely be interested in an ellipses video.
Could you please consider doing a short video on umbrellas from the rear? I think the envelope method helps, but I’d love to see how you apply it. Thanks, Michelle. I learn so much from you.
I have really struggled with drawing flowers like foxgloves, where there are clusters of flowers. I used the box/envelope method, but silly me, I drew the box around each flower! Now I see why my drawings of these flowers never turned out quite right. Thanks again Michele!
I've been using this technique for some time now without knowing about it and for a different reason. I have aphantasia (lack of any mental imagery) and always had troubles with my drawings being cut off somewhere, because I couldn't plan it out before and drew it too close to the edge of the paper. I started using these boxes as a way around this so that I could see the space I was going to work in. Thanks for the very insightful video, really interesting!
Hi Michele, this video will be very helpful! I've been focusing on my drawing (especially how to draw a straight line). Mostly I've used your technique for drawing people, but I can see how useful it will be with other subjects. Thank you for this very informative video.
Both digs and cats are capable when given time and love My cats recognuse both words and sounds as commands. Both know their names and have their own body language to communicate with me that I have learnt to understand.
Great video ❤ I never thought about drawing techniques like this before. I'm not very techie, but if you ever do the old-fashioned way of dvdx or blu rays, I'd happily buy one. I'm sure others would think the same
thanks Michele! I am always successful when I use this method. Sometimes I forget to use the technique. It is a great tool and you simplified it masterfully.☺️
Fabulous method for drawing. I often wonder how one would illustrate a book seems like drawings would be more like a cartoon creating images just from your imagination versus real life. The process might be completely different as I do not know any illustrator.
If you get the correct angles from an unmoving reference point , you can draw anything by simply triangulating your way around the picture space. A carpenter's sliding bevel will transfer perfect angles, or, 2 straight edges connected to a common point. They use 2 knitting needles and rubber bands at the st Petersburg art academy. The sliding bevel works better, though. Cheers
Anything you would like to teach I am certain I would find useful! I have seen elipses used for various body shapes (I have a few books from the Time Team artist Victor Ambrus) but I always learn something new when watching your videos. I greatly appreciate your time an trouble. I would also be interested in learning more from behind the scenes of your creation of videos.

Thank you for making it so simple, as another artist made it so comp;icated, with diagonals 🤔

Coming soon! In the mean time, I do have a short on them
