sorry for the English response, but having worked with straw before, it seems like what they're doing is: 1- breaking off the bad ends of the straw and breaking the individual segments of straw (I am less sure about that part, but it's the closest I can think of) 2- sorting out the pieces that are too small for braiding 3- getting the straw damp so it can bend without breaking
